Monster rampages. In the world of Lambda, these were disasters that were feared more than earthquakes or tsunamis.
It was a phenomenon in which monsters multiplied excessively inside a Dungeon and were released to the outside world, and during such events, monsters became more ferocious and loyal to the instinct that commanded them to harm humans.
Thus, rampaging monsters would almost never fight one another as long as there were humans nearby, and despite being of different races, they would form a single horde that advanced upon places inhabited by humans.
Depending on the class of Dungeon in which monster rampages occurred, they could destroy not only villages and cities, but entire countries.
Thus, humans of this world had always been alert against the possibility of monster rampages since ancient times. They would make commissions for adventurers to cull monster numbers in Dungeons, and at the same time, they had conducted research into them as well.
The research had shown that the higher the class of Dungeon, the longer it took for a rampage to occur in it. Thus, monster rampages did not occur very often in the modern era.
It was impossible for a monster rampage to happen without any warning whatsoever.
And yet, there was a group of young men and women desperately running for their lives, with the sounds of Dragon’s howls, Giants’ groans and trees being felled behind them.
“Why?! Why are there Dragons, Giants and all kinds of other monsters?!”
“Who cares about that! We need to get back to the city before the gate closes!”
“Where did those Dragons come from?! Thunder Dragons are supposed to live in mountains and valleys, aren’t they?!”
“Isn’t it a monster rampage from a Dungeon?!”
“There’s no way!” said one of the young men.
The truth was that it was indeed a monster rampage from a Dungeon, but such a thing was normally impossible, so the young man strongly denied this possibility.
There were no Dungeons around the city of Morksi that would spawn Rank 8 Thunder Dragons and Mountain Giants. Of course, Dungeons were things that appeared spontaneously, so it wasn’t entirely impossible for a new B-class Dungeon to have appeared.
But there had been no precedent of a monster rampage occurring in a Dungeon immediately after its appearance.
“I know something about this! I heard that a monster rampage occurred right after a Dungeon appeared near some city in the Hartner Duchy!” said one of the young women.
Indeed, the exception to the norm was when Dungeons were created through some being’s will or under some being’s control, rather than appearing spontaneously.
Examples of this were the Dungeon that Vandalieu had created near the city of Niarki in the Hartner Duchy, and Fitun’s Labyrinth of Trials.
“What the hell?! What are we supposed to do about that?!” the young man shouted, but he and his companions were incapable of doing anything with their current strength.
“Shut up and run! This is completely different from hunting Goblins!”
The young men and women were rookie adventurers who had come out on a commission to hunt Goblins. They were not very capable, and wouldn’t have been able to slow down any of the monsters a single second, never mind the Thunder Dragons and Giants.
Of course, because of this, they had been in a shallower part of the Devil’s Nest, so this was why they had been able to escape despite their weaker physical capabilities.
“Come to think of it, I heard that when there’s a monster rampage from a Dungeon, you can hide inside another Dungeon!” one of them shouted.
Once monsters emerged from Dungeons, they could never return again. Thus, hiding in Dungeons to escape from trouble was advice that had been passed down among adventurers.
However, the unlucky adventurers could not execute this plan.
“The closest Dungeon is close to that horde of monsters!”
“Where’s the second closest Dungeon, then?!”
“It’s way further than the city! We won’t make it!”
“Shit, we’re done for!”
But at that moment, the Thunder Dragon among the group of monsters that was leading the horde suddenly screeched and tumbled into the ground.
“Huh?”
The young adventurers turned around for a moment, but immediately realized that they didn’t have time to be looking and faced forwards once more. Thus, they were unable to see the black lightning coming from the grasslands.
Several other large monsters that could be targeted from afar were brought down, becoming obstacles that hindered the remaining monsters behind them. But the monsters did not change directions; Ogres and Trolls broke through the obstacles and began chasing after the young adventurers.
But at the exit of the forest, an old woman with a crooked back and very hoarse voice called out to them. “You youngsters over there! You must hurry and leave!”
She had likely been hunting Goblins here, just like them, working as an adventurer on the side. She was wearing leather armor and was holding a spear.
“You need to get out of here too, old lady!” one of the adventurers said to her.
“D-don’t worry about me! I’m no good at running! I’ll make sure to take at least one of them down with me, so make use of that time and get back to the city!” she shouted back.
The young adventurers fell silent for a moment as they looked at the old woman, whose hood had been drawn low over her face, but in the end, they ran past her.
“We’re sorry,” one of the young women said to her.
This decision couldn’t be helped; they wouldn’t have been able to escape while carrying the old woman with them.
A smile appeared on the old woman’s wrinkled face as she realized that the young woman was crying. “Hmph! I’ve done a terrible thing! But I hope that they will overcome the guilt and powerlessness they felt today to become brave fighters in the future!” she muttered to herself.
With that, she began walking towards the approaching horde of monsters.
“I won’t call this an atonement, but I must fulfil my duty! I did expect that the enemy would strike when Vandalieu was not inside the city, but I never imagined that a horde of monsters would arrive without warning! But it matters not!” she told herself. “Come, beasts! I will not let you into the city! I’ll send you to a different place –”
A Troll’s club crushed the old woman with a single strike, scattering blood… no, just flesh, into the surroundings. The huge volume of bloodless flesh splashing around covered the Troll as well, but then, the Troll vanished like mist.
The other Trolls looked around, bewildered by the sudden disappearance of their brethren, but they disappeared in the same way in the next instant.
With the time given to them by this interruption in the monsters’ chase, the young adventurers succeeded in escaping to the city of Morksi.
Elsewhere, Thunder Dragons suddenly stopped heading towards the city and Giants began fighting each other. Old adventurers, adventurers with wounded legs and other adventurers who weren’t well-known succeeded in escaping to the city as well.
The battle between Vandalieu’s side and Hajime Fitun’s side began with long-range attacks from Hajime Fitun’s side.
“‘Lightning Beast Assault!’” shouted Hajime Fitun, summoning a ferret-like beast made of lightning.
The heroic spirits who had taken possession of the bodies of the Flame Blades fired arrows and cast spells as well.
They were equipped with far better equipment than Vandalieu and his companions had anticipated. As Vandalieu may have heard news of them if they purchased equipment in the city, they had obtained it in Fitun’s Labyrinth of Trials.
“Let’s probe things out first! ‘Air Point!’” shouted Gordon Bobby, unleashing a thrusting martial skill with an Adamantite spear longer than his own body height.
The range of this martial skill was normally not very far, but perhaps the ability of the ‘Mountain Breaking Strong Spear’ Bobby controlling the body was displaying itself; the attacks could reach their distant targets with ease.
“Melissa, Doug, I’m counting on you for now,” said Vandalieu.
“No problem,” said the ‘Aegis’ Melissa.
Her barrier repelled not only Gordon Bobby’s ‘Air Point,’ but the other arrows and spells as well. However, the lightning beasts ran around the barrier to target Vandalieu and the others.
“I guess I’m in charge of dealing with the lightning beasts!” said the ‘Hecatoncheir’ Doug, trapping the lightning beast with a telekinetic fist.
The invisible fist crushed the lightning beast, erasing it from existence.
“Commander, is that the ‘Aegis’ and ‘Hecatoncheir?!’” one of the heroic spirits asked.
“That’s right, and the other two are… They were supposed to have been reincarnated as Elves, but they’ve become black, those damned wenches,” said Hajime Fitun. “Leaving that aside, the other Dark-Elf-looking one is ‘Venus!’ And the other is… Isis?! Why is she in the form that she had in her previous life?! A-anyway, that human woman is Legion! Deal with them just as I told you! But don’t chase them down too far!”
Hajime Fitun was surprised by the fact that Isis was in the form she possessed in her previous life when she was supposed to be a mass of flesh made of flesh mannequins entwined around each other, but decided that it was likely to be Legion’s new form.
“Yes, sir!” said Gordon Bobby, continuing his attacks, unfazed by the fact that the previous attacks had been repelled with ease.
The heroic spirits continued firing arrows and throwing their short spears, but not using any martial skills.
“… Considering that he’s not surprised by our abilities, I suppose it has to be Hajime after all. But…” murmured Doug, who had been teleported here by Gufadgarn’s magic using the Demon King’s shadow as a gate.
Hajime was his former companion that he had infiltrated the Eighth Guidance with, but Doug was perplexed.
“Is that really Hajime? I know that he’s become younger after being reincarnated, but it’s hard to believe,” Doug said. “Even if you ignore his punk hairstyle, he’s way too different. I last saw him in Rodcorte’s Divine Realm, and even though that was two years ago, he’s changed too much!”
“… Yes, more than we heard,” agreed the ‘Aegis’ Melissa.
The two of them had worked with Hajime for years, but his appearance had changed drastically since then.
He had been a fair-skinned, indoor-type, sensitive young man, but he was now a boy with tanned skin and well-developed muscles.
On top of that, his bloodshot eyes and maniacal laughter as he commanded his subordinates was very different from how he had been in his previous life.
“I’m sure he’s gone through some tough things. Although it looks like he isn’t aware that they were tough,” said Isis.
“Just what drove him into a corner so badly?” Kanako wondered.
Melissa and Doug looked at Isis and Kanako with incredulous expressions.
“… Maybe it’s something to do with the fact that he was fatally wounded by an explosion and then finished off with an acid attack?” said Melissa.
“We’re just as guilty of using him as a disposable pawn as you, so I can’t really blame you, but… you guys are the ones responsible for it, aren’t you? Especially you, Kanako!” said Doug.
“Well, it was a long time ago, wasn’t it?” Kanako said casually.
It had been less than three years since she had put an end to Hajime’s life in Origin.
“Th-those damn bitches!” Hajime Fitun muttered.
They were now close enough to see each other, and he could tell what Kanako and the others were saying by reading their lips.
Anger instantly rose to his head, and at the same time, his legs began shaking.
“C-Commander? Are you trembling in anticipation for battle?” one of the heroic spirits asked.
Hajime Fitun clicked his tongue. “… It’s because of the original owner of this body.”
Fitun had taken over Hajime Inui’s body, but it wasn’t that Hajime’s soul was asleep. It had been swallowed by Fitun, continuing to exist as a part of him.
That was why Fitun had acquired the knowledge from other worlds that Hajime possessed, but at the same time, he now shared the trauma that Hajime suffered from.
I got complacent because I’m fine around ordinary women now. But to think that we would be facing the two people who killed Hajime in his previous life… Damn it, Hajime Fitun cursed to himself.
He had overcome the trauma to some extent, but the impact of the trauma when coming face to face with the people who had created it was greater than he had expected.
Meanwhile, Vandalieu and his companions who were focused on their defense were talking amongst themselves in confusion inside Melissa’s barrier.
“The others are strange in various ways as well. The people around him are the Flame Blades and the ‘Strong Arm’ Gordon, aren’t they? … They’re far too skilled to be D-class adventurers, and Gordon was supposed to be an axe-user, not a spear-user,” said Melissa.
“You’re right. Their movements are quite good; maybe around C-… no, better than B-class but a little short of A-class,” said Kanako. “And the way Gordon’s using his spear doesn’t seem like he learned those skills in a hurry.”
“Are you serious? Is it even possible to improve your skills in that short a time?!” said Doug.
“That would normally be impossible. Though it wouldn’t be out of the question if Hajime awakened to a Guider-type Job, guided them and the Flame Blades all have genius-level talent, with the divine protection of a god and a perfect place to train,” said Vandalieu.
“In other words, it’s pretty much impossible,” said Melissa.
As Vandalieu said, it would be almost impossible for someone to go from a D-class adventurer to someone with the ability of a B-class adventurer in the space of just over a month. Even Simon and Natania were far from being B-class adventurers. And even Vandalieu’s adventurer friends, Kasim, Fester and Zeno, had taken years to hone their skills.
“Gordon’s improvement is completely impossible,” Vandalieu added. “I don’t know what his Status looks like, but… he’s almost certainly gone through several axe-technique-related Jobs, like ‘Axe Warrior.’ A little over a month is not enough time to become a master with a spear after that.”
“Is it possible that he was just hiding his ability?” asked Doug.
“I find it hard to imagine that he’s capable of doing something that clever,” said Vandalieu.
Vandalieu and his companions were perplexed by the strange circumstances surrounding the Flame Blades and Gordon. Kanako tried using Venus through the barrier to try and learn the cause of those circumstances, but… she shook her head after a few moments.
“It’s no good. They won’t make eye contact with me. It seems like it will be impossible to copy their memories with ‘Venus.’ … I did manage to randomly paste my own short memories onto one of them, though,” Kanako said.
In the next moment, the Titan shield-bearer of the Flame Blades screamed and stepped back. His face had been healthy and filled with a hunger for battle a moment ago, but it was now completely pale.
“What did you show him?” Vandalieu asked.
“It was only a few seconds long, but it was a piece of art that enriches the heart,” said Kanako.
It seemed that she had shown the Titan shield-bearer a memory of the pictures drawn on the roofs of Talosheim’s buildings.
“I thought that if it went well, I could pull him over to our side, and in the worse-case scenario, it would crush his desire for battle. But it seems that it didn’t work,” said Kanako.
Before she even finished speaking, the Titan shield-bearer let out an angry roar and began throwing stones with a sling, using the ‘Long Throw’ martial skill. It seemed that he had overcome his fear with anger.
However, even with an increased range due to the martial skill, the stones were broken by Melissa’s barrier just like the arrows and spells, so they didn’t reach Kanako.
“Attacks like these don’t really faze me, but you do realize that I’m the one blocking them, right?” said Melissa.
“Ah, sorry about that. But the response was a little strange,” said Kanako. “It was similar to when I used Venus on people with multiple personalities in the past… Have you heard anything from Natania-san?”
“No, not in particular,” said Vandalieu as he shook his head while also recalling the Thunder Dragons and Mountain Giants that he had been using to help the people who had been late to get back to the city.
“Ignoring the multiple personality thing, we didn’t know anything about that shield-bearer being able to use ‘Throwing’… It’s likely that something has been done to him with the ‘Marionette’ ability,” said Kanako.
“I’m all for speculation, but how long are we gonna stay on the defense? Isn’t the city in danger if we take too much time here?” asked Doug, pointing at the city’s walls around two kilometers behind them.
Vandalieu shook his head. “Doug, the monster rampage won’t stop even if we defeat these people in a hurry… I asked the monsters’ spirits, and it seems that they’re not being controlled.”
Indeed, Hajime Fitun had merely caused a monster rampage from a Dungeon; he was not controlling the monsters himself. He only needed them to head towards the city of Morksi, so he wasn’t exerting any detailed control over them at all.
“And if we don’t take our time, our position in society is in jeopardy… This place is too close to the city,” Vandalieu added.
“There are no binoculars or telescopes in this world, but there are spells that strengthen your vision or enlarge images in order to let you see from afar, after all,” said Melissa.
There were watchtowers with soldiers stationed at them at regular intervals along Morksi’s outer wall. Vandalieu and his companions were certainly visible from those watchtowers.
“… Damn, that’s a pain in the ass!” said Doug.
“There are currently soldiers that are watching us using magic. We can’t do anything flashy until the situation becomes desperate enough for them to not have the time to be watching us… until the battle to defend the city begins,” said Vandalieu. “‘Black Lightning.’”
“Life in society is a difficult thing,” Kimberley remarked as he turned into a bolt of black lightning that flew towards Hajime Fitun and his heroic spirits.
Using the ‘Abyss’ Skill to stay aware of how many soldiers were watching him, Vandalieu continued this series of attacking and defending in a way that he could play it off later as normal with some excuses.
The Dragon Zombies and Giant Zombies had just been struck by ‘Black Lightning,’ so it would merely look as if they had killed each other by mistake unless one observed very closely.
There were all kinds of explanations that Vandalieu could give if he were to be questioned about Kimberley as well.
But there would be no way to explain things if he were to use ‘Soul Destruction Fighting Technique’ or spells that caused great damage to the surroundings.
“Then what about the pathogens you used before?” Doug suggested. “A disease that only works on humans, Elves and Dwarves would work on most of them, right?”
“… Actually, I’ve already tried that. It seems that they’re somehow preventing themselves from being infected,” said Vandalieu.
“Clean freaks after becoming outdoor-types, huh!” Doug muttered.
Hajime Fitun and his heroic spirits, prepared for the pathogens that Vandalieu had used against the Mirg shield-nation’s expedition army, continued their attacks.
Of course, this time-buying was only possible because Vandalieu had some room to work with.
There were individuals in the city of Morksi who were capable of putting on the act of fighting a difficult battle but still winning against a horde of Rank 8 and 9 monsters… Darcia, Miles, Eleanora, Basdia and Zadiris. And Gufadgarn and the others were prepared to deal with any unforeseen circumstances as well.
Vandalieu didn’t have to worry about the defense of the city.
But if Hajime Fitun and his heroic spirits were to cast a powerful spell that could cause damage to the city or endanger the lives of Kanako and the others, Vandalieu wouldn’t hold back either.
… Hajime Fitun and his heroic spirits were likely aware of that.
“But fortunately, it seems that they have a reason that they want to buy time as well,” said Isis.
Indeed, Hajime Fitun needed time… for something other than suppressing the trauma that she and Kanako had inflicted upon him.
“Commander, aren’t we ready yet? At this rate, we’re just wasting our arrows and Mana!” said one of the heroic spirits impatiently.
“Not yet!” said Hajime Fitun.
He was continuing to wait because his other subordinates, who were stationed in a way that surrounded the city of Morksi, still hadn’t moved.
Hajime Fitun had ordered them to follow the monster rampage to the city and destroy the city’s walls in as conspicuous a way as possible.
The purpose of this was to direct Vandalieu’s attention towards the city and draw even more of his companions away from him.
It would actually be more dangerous if the watching eyes and the lives of the city’s people weren’t a factor anymore, so I won’t slaughter them all, but it should cause him to panic if the city’s walls are destroyed and several dozen people die, Hajime Fitun thought. My subordinates all have time limits, after all. I’ll chip away at your forces as much as I can, then bring you down!
Some time before the standoff between Vandalieu’s side and Hajime Fitun’s side.
The soldiers at the watchtowers on the city’s walls were busily moving about. But most of their attention was directed upon the horde of monsters that was approaching the city’s main gate.
That was also true for the watchtower closest to Vandalieu.
The soldiers, surprised by the appearance of the Thunder Dragons, had frozen in place out of fear… and were unaware that Vandalieu was the one who had defeated the Thunder Dragons.
“At least we’re fortunate in that the big ones started killing each other by mistake.”
“Yeah, I thought for a second that something defeated the Thunder Dragons, but… what was that?”
“Who knows. I thought I saw something black for a moment, but… maybe he threw some poison that confused them?”
The soldiers were aware that Vandalieu had done something, but the defeated Thunder Dragons had risen up once more and begun to attack the other monsters, so they were under the impression that he had somehow managed to confuse them.
The truth was that he had turned the Thunder Dragons defeated by ‘Black Lightning’ into Undead, allowing him to control them, but… the Dragons had died by electrocution, so from afar, it looked as if they were unharmed.
Vandalieu had used ‘Black Lightning’ to defeat other Dragons and Giants, but since that was the main spell he used, the soldiers believed that it was the doing of a Thunder Dragon or some other monster tamed by Vandalieu that they didn’t know about.
“If there were a lot of Thunder Dragons and other flying monsters left alive, these walls wouldn’t do a thing.”
“The same is true for the Giants. It would be different if they were Hill Giants, but these walls would be like thin planks to those Mountain Giants.”
“Yeah, it’s my first time seeing them, but… high-Rank monsters are crazy.”
The soldiers who protected the city generally didn’t have any opportunity to see any monsters other than low-Rank ones living nearby, like Goblins. Rank 7 and 8 monsters were things straight out of fairy tales and bards’ songs.
The soldiers couldn’t be blamed for not knowing much about their detailed biology and their abilities.
And it was often the soldiers with good eyesight and those who could use spells to enhance their eyesight that would be chosen to be stationed at the watchtowers. However, exceptional individuals would be posted near the city’s main gate. Thus, there was nobody who could observe what Vandalieu was doing over two kilometers away in detail at this tower, which was positioned partway along the wall.
“But I guess he’s not returning to the city because he’s the one confusing the monsters after all?” asked one of the soldiers, thinking this was strange.
The alarm signaling a state of emergency was ringing. Though Vandalieu was some distance away, he should have been able to hear it, but he was making no effort to leave the grassy area.
“What’s going on, Daniel?” the soldier asked one of the other soldiers who was focusing his eyes on Vandalieu.
The soldier named Daniel, who was enhancing his vision with a life-attribute spell, was barely able to discern the fact that the boy left out in the fields was Vandalieu, and even then, only because the enormous Fang had been nearby until a few minutes ago.
“Even if he tried to make it back now, he’d run into the horde of monsters… He might have better chances of surviving by staying outside the city on his own,” said Daniel.
Daniel spoke the truth – as rampaging monsters instinctively attacked humans, they would first target the city that had a large number of people living in it. They would likely take no notice of a single boy out in a grassy field.
“… I suppose you’re right,” said the other soldier.
A number of the large monsters had fallen, but the monster horde was still going strong. There were even reports that there were Rank 7 Ogre Kings and Troll Berserkers.
The soldiers felt as if the fate of the city of Morksi and the fate of their own lives were in a precarious situation.
“Hmm? What are those guys… What are those guys doing?!” Daniel suddenly shouted, his expression turning into a scowl.
“What’s wrong?! What do you see?!” one of the other soldiers asked.
“It looks like Vandalieu and his friends are being attacked by a group of bandits!”
“Bandits?! At a time like this?!”
“Yeah, there’s no doubt about it! I don’t know if they were hiding in the grass, but there are some other people around Vandalieu as well. But it seems that they’re his allies… I guess we can’t go and rescue them.”
“What bastards! Attacking a Tamer who doesn’t have his familiars with him!”
Daniel had taken notice of the attacks of Hajime Fitun and his heroic spirits, but naturally, he was unable to see the ‘Aegis’ barrier or the telekinesis of ‘Hecatoncheir.’ Thus, it appeared to him as if Vandalieu and his companions were being attacked one-sidedly and only barely managing to block the attacks somehow.
Just then, a messenger came running with orders.
“We’re abandoning this tower! All hands, to the front gate! All soldiers capable of using magic have been ordered to move!” said the messenger.
“… Roger that!” Daniel said in frustration. “To think that we can see the city’s savior in danger, and yet we can’t do anything about it…!”
Daniel had only dabbled in magic a little, but he was unable to disobey orders, so he undid his ‘Vision Enhancement’ spell and descended the tower with his comrades to head towards the front gate.
He did so, unaware that this was the greatest act of support that he could do for Vandalieu.
Vandalieu had been aware of Daniel’s gaze with the ‘Abyss’ Skill, so he was now also aware that there was no more need to buy more time.
Job description (Written by Luciliano):
Demiurge
A Job that symbolizes that one is a demigod. In the world of Lambda, there has not been a single mortal who ascended to godhood while still living.
Mortals who become gods live out their lives and then ascend to godhood after death. There are some extremely rare exceptions, when they become something other than a mortal through a peculiar process such as fusing with an evil god or transforming from a mortal to an Elder Dragon or true Colossus.
There has never been a precedent of a mortal (Dhampir) becoming a demigod like Master has. Thus, I hypothesize that the gods of the Status produced the ‘Demiurge’ Job after much trouble.
Well, it is also my opinion that Master became a demigod at the point where he was giving out his divine protection to various people.
Like ‘Bestower,’ it is a special Job that gives people other than the Job holder himself a new Skill (‘Familiar Spirit Demonfall’) once they meet certain conditions.
And the Job also converts religious worship of Master into Experience Points. He is cursed with ‘Unable to gain Experience Points independently,’ but it is likely that acquiring Experience Points passively through religious worship directed towards him is not classified as independently gained.
Considering this, it can be assumed that Master will no longer be able to strongly oppose the construction of holy statues of himself.

What about those of us on mobile? Are we doomed to never be able to join the F5 Sect? Must we form our own community, the Scroll-Up Society? Are we doomed to fail into inevitable conflict? Or can we respect our differences in refreshing, coming together due to our love of Lord Vandalieu and his adventures?

All are welcome in the cult of F5. We all eagerly refresh the browser in our own ways.

So Legion was the old lady? Must’ve just been normal shapeshifting for a disguise, because I’m pretty sure all the Eighth Guidance (and Hitome) were all in their 20s.
Renrobt
She mentioned that they fused with the old lady. Not sure who and from where, but my guess is from when their teleportation got intercepted by the cultists slaughtering the village.

Thank you for the chapter! This was an interesting chapter, now slaughter time in the next one.

“That’s right, and the other two are… They were supposed to have been reincarnated as Elves, but they’ve become black, those damned wenches,” said Hajime Fitun.
wtf fitun racism confirmed??/?/
Jonathan Hurd
I think this is more Hajimes fear of women being stirred by seeing Kanako and Isis again rather than Fitun and racism.
ObserverBias
No one character has access to all the information we have. As far as Van is concerned, there’s not even godly involvement in this scrap, as far as Fitun is concerned, “something” changed about Hajime’s former classmates/“comrades”, best he can figure is witchcraft (given relative awareness races can be changed, but zero awareness of what this new race is).
Chiu ChunLing
Sorry, but wasn’t extreme racism basically the entire basis of Alda’s faction?
True, Dark Elves are on the “oppress” rather than “exterminate” end of the “abominable works of the demented Vida” spectrum, but I’m unsurprised that Fitun would express disgust at them.

I am assuming the old lady is one of the orphanage caretakers. Some crazy theories in the comments, but wouldn’t the old lady vampire/dhampir be more likely.
Renrobt
Unlikely, none of them are combatants. While yes they are stronger than humans and doesn’t take a lot of mental gymnastics for them to have something they want to atone for, they are supposed to be in the city pretty much at all times, and none of them has any precedence of even using magic, let alone one that casually makes a large group of trolls vanish. Plus usually no one can cast magic after they got splattered, even if they are a vampire or dhampir. Well the pure bred vamps and Van are an exception to that but caretakers are definitely not on that level.
Jonathan Hurd
Well the only person who was supposed to be old was the Dhampir director. It does make sense she would keep up that appearance on the outside so people don’t question the Orphanges credibility. It also kind of makes sense that she might have gone out to fight goblins and other things to train herself to be able to better protect the children and the orphanage if something comes up later.
Biggest problems I have with it being her though is the fact that they didn’t say the Old Lady only had one eye. Though there is a possibility that Van gave her an Eye transplant. The other one is not sure how she exploded in flesh with no blood. That’s basically the biggest reason a lot of us defaulted to her being Legion.

Vandalieu had been aware of Daniel’s gaze with the ‘Abyss’ Skill, so he was now also aware that there was no more need to buy more time.
ITS SLAUGHTER TIME
i hope van can save hajime somehow removing fitun from his body. he was an asshole but he doesent deserved that
Valeth
I think they are both going to get devoured. Hajime honestly was one of the worst characters as far as his personality. He used his cheat like powers to torture and rape women, or it was at least implied it was.
no1
what are you talking about, Hajime has a crappy personality like death scythe and gungir. He definitely deserves to have his soul broken
Lord Rin
He doesn’t deserve to be saved. Hajime was a serial rapist. It was mentioned back when he threatened Isis with repeated rape even if she dies. The narration noted that he used his ability to immobilize women and rape them.
ObserverBias
“Friendly” reminder, Hajime was ‘content’ to keep the hell away from any involvement with either women or Van after winding up reincarnated again (due to previous trauma and having witnessed some of Van’s abilities).
Tabling rehabilitation, he’s technically not trying to do any of what he is doing. In his “right” mind, he may or may not be fine with getting eaten or broken to not have to deal with any of this anymore.
Haraken
Yeah…I don’t think anyone will mourn or go out of their way to save an unrepentant serial murderer and rapist from being used by another asshole to do the same kind of stuff he would have been doing regardless of being controlled or not.
If not controlled Hajime might have stayed away from Van and co. but he regretted nothing of the atrocities he did. He would still be out there mind-controlling, murdering and who knows if his fear of women would have prevented him from torturing women after a while. Hajime did that kind of stuff and can’t put in his head that he isn’t a victim that got betray by women, but scum like Kanata(gungir) that had it coming.
He was one of the few reincarnated people that not only did awful stuff and relished in it, but never saw it as awful stuff as he has ZERO empathy for anyone else (Even Murakami who does awful stuff without remorse knows what he does is awful, and he does it not because he likes doing it, but as a mean to an objective).
Irazori
Pretty sure fitun and his personal gang of assholes merged their souls with their hosts kinda like how birkaine got taken over by his fragment. Meaning Van would end up destroying both, unless the damage would make the aldiots lose their strength in overshadowing the host bodies.
Blackpercher

Thanks for the chapter, that note about the statues, just made my day.

Thanks for the chapter.
Hajime Fitun is truly going to he an unique existance. Hajime was already a pretty despicable character who wanted to rape Isis and is furthermore a enemy towards women and was already declared as must die person and now Fitun joined ths fray and attacked a city in which Van-sama is currently living -> have to die!
And I wonder who the old lady may be. A new character which is sent to Van-sama by one of his allies or one of his followers who wanted to be turned into undead? One of the vampires? Or one of the characters from the early beginning who faded into backgorud?
Umetsu
Obviously, it’s flesh mannequin company.(bloodlees, teleportation)
QweenBird17
Isn’t the old lady just one of the orphanage caretakers they should be able to fight since they are vampires/dhampirs and under vans influence
Haraken
It’s our friendly neighbor Legion in disguise.
V4NQU1SH
Thanks for the chapter~!!!
Lord Rin
So who is that old woman? The mention about her being splattered into countless pieces of bloodless flesh sounds like Legion but none of Legion’s personalities have the appearance of old women. Also the old lady talked about atonement which I don’t think Legion would talk about. Maybe she’s an undead? They also don’t have blood flowing through their veins so you could say that they got bloodless flesh. Ah wait, I just remembered that Legion has some skill called Encroachment Fusion. It sounds like it allows Legion to fuse with others so maybe Legion fused with an undead for some reason. Legion did collect all the corpses of the villagers and the Evil God worshipers when they got lost and I feel like an Evil God worshiper would want to atone to Van by being used in this manner.
So this really shows how doomed to failure Fitun’s group are because of impatience. It said they only trained about a month so the majority of Fitun’s subordinates are only equal to B-rank adventurers with some being a bit stronger but still not enough to equal A-rank. If they actually spent more than a month training then they probably would’ve all become at least A-rank -apart from probably Gordon Bobby and Hajime Fitun- which would’ve given them a greater chance at succeeding.
Looks like Kanako has learned a way to use her Venus skill offensively. She memorized the paintings that Van made that invite people to be guided by him which has severe mental effects on those who are wholeheartedly opposed to joining Van and end up going insane from it. Kanako basically now has the Mangekyo Sharingan’s Tsukiyomi attack.
Also this confirms that when they said that Fitun and his subordinates consumed the souls of their intended host vessels it isn’t meant literally like with Van. The souls just suffer a mental collapse and go into a vegetative state that coexist in the same body with the heroic spirit. It’s still kinda funny that even while being in that same state, Hajime’s own soul is still terrified of Kanako and Isis who grievously harmed then killed him respectively and that it is affecting Fitun.
Jonathan Hurd
The old lady could definitely be Legion. They did level up the Form Alteration skill fairly high. That was the reason they could take on their original bodies. That being the case it would make sense if they could change their looks to someone completely different.
For the Atonement part I’m a bit torn on that one. She could be talking about atoning to Van or it could also be she’s atoning for making the youngsters she’s saving think they’re leaving her to die. I’m kind of back and forth on the two.
I think Fitun Hajime might be a little special case among those he’s taken over. With Hajime he specifically cultivated and slowly fused with him. For the Heroic Spirits bodies it seems more like he made a bunch of disposable bodies. The bodies for the Subordinates were basically anyone who could be posessed. He ignored all skills and specializations and just brute forced it. We see that with Gordon Bobby having the spear expert posess a axe user. For Hajime however Fitun had him grow specific skills and level up in certain ways to better suit himself.
I will say though if the original bodies souls are still inside the bodies I would be interested if Van could potentially wake them up with Mental Encroachment. I don’t think there is a high chance of them coming out sane from the process but that might completely screw up their fighting forces.
Moonsshadow
I thought it might be the insect swarm bebecket or something sorry I don’t remember how to spell her name until she was splatterd
Absolute Zer0
That insect swarm lasy is taking care of Cemetery Bees
Tejing
I think the atonement thing is a lighthearted play on her immediately previous statement about having done a bad thing. In that light, it’s a pretty reasonable thing for Legion to be saying. Based on the prevalence of exclamation points, and the talk about bravery, I’m thinking Valkyrie was doing the talking, while, of course, Jack must have done the teleporting.
Moonsshadow
Honestly it’s the spear thing that’s throwing me for a loop
Kazza
Hey, new chapter.
Ah, still in the pre-fight…
So, seems to be a common theory among us that the old woman is Legion, or at least a part of them since Isis is with Van. My money is on Jack, ’cause his teleportation magic would explain how the trolls then started to disappear.
My challenge to that, though, is why? “Jack” isn’t a being of Lambda that anyone can connect to Van, so why would he go through the trouble of adopting a completely different manner of speaking and appearance? Maybe it’s him and Pluto, or some other more “adult” member (honestly, from what we’ve seen, they’re all a bit childish), but that still doesn’t answer why they would use a disguise if their actual appearance would never have been seen.
Honestly, I wouldn’t like a new character that’s just “been-in-Talosheim-this-whole-time,” ’cause that’s skirting WAY too close to Deus ex Machina. A new power for an established character is one thing, but a new character just to provide a power? Oof…
Furthermore, is this lady the only one pulling off this trick? Fitun seems to indicate similar things are happening on all sides, which is why he’s not confident enough to charge. Are there multiple of the same ladies doing that all around, or are there more disguised Legions?
In addition, the text is unclear if the flesh disappeared with the trolls, because it only covered the attacking troll, yet all trolls got teleported separately from the first. It’s established that Jack comes with his teleports, he can’t zap someone away like Gufadgarn.
Honestly, I’m not confident enough to make a prediction. I’m keeping my expectations open until I get more information.
Anyways, was anyone else kind of surprised that Kanako only needs eye contact to work Venus? For some reason, I thought physical contact (or psychic contact, in Narumi’s case) was needed, but I guess it was never specified.
Looking back, those cheat skills are horrifically unbalanced between each other. Even discounting Hiroto’s 7, you’ve got some that don’t require contact (Venus, Death Scythe, Gungnir), but those like Marionette that Hajime needs to work around. Then you’ve got those that can be easily replicated by others (what’s the point of Gungnir when Ignore Defense ignores whatever is between you and your target anyways, what’s the point of Death Scythe when Marionette can freeze and do even more to a body).
I mean, looking back, what if Rodcorte wasn’t… himself, and cared enough to give Hiroshi a power like his folks. Do you think he’d get a crap one and feel gypped?
Lord Rin
Well Rodcorte really is just that inept. The cheats are either… well cheats and thus horribly unbalanced, or they are abilities that other cheats can replicate like the examples you’ve given, or they’re abilities that are detrimental like how Gazer and Inspector couldn’t be turned off and drove Hitomi to drugs and multiple suicide attempts while Izumi could no longer trust anybody since they always lied to her and her only form of entertainment could no longer be enjoyed because she could always see through the magic tricks, or the cheats just plain aren’t that amazing like Shouko’s Ifrit just lets her use the fire attribute better than others and Rikudou’s Unlimited Growth and Increased Learning Speed can produce results that are something that any rando can eventually do if they try hard enough.
Tejing
The disguise wasn’t really to avoid being recognized, but to give those young adventurers a reason to leave her behind. It would have been problematic if they’d seen the fight. I expect the one talking was Valkyrie, but of course the teleportation was done by Jack.
As for Venus, I believe it was stated before that the requirement was “two-way communication.” I guess eye contact falls under that heading.
Kuro-san
Thanks for the chapter!

Is it just me or it’s a bit shorter compared to the other chapters before?

Let’s call this an Intro for the real fight ! ^^
Death God
Thank’s for the chapter Yoshi. But nothing happened at all I was expecting magic and martial skills, slug fest. Oh well I think it would be alright if Van and Darcia show their strength, to quickly be recognized as S-class adventures so that they could quickly inogorate themselves in society.
Jonathan Hurd
The stage has to be set first before we can have the epic showdown. I mean in DBZ they never started at full power. You gotta feel out your foes. All the bystanders are gone and Van has set himself up as the brave hero trying to stem the monster tide and Hajime as bandits. Now that no one is watching he can start being serious.
Guroga
Well not much happened in this chapter.
SilverEagleLive
Probably just the author setting the stage for the next chapter.
Halfsweat
Thanks for the chapter
Phantom Knight
Thanks for the chapter!!!!!! I am surprised and delighted that Vandalieu-sama is much better in his control of [Abyss] skill now. Moreover, he is actively using his [Dead Spirit Magic] in a battle against gods, so the skill will finally level up again.
As for his party member, they finally get the chance to fight and slay gods which will help in unlocking some strong or more jobs. Kanako is even using her [Venus] as a weapon and might get it to level up again. If we are lucky, they all might learn some new skills or maybe awaken their cheats into superior skills.
All of this is honestly really eye opening and unexpected. Author-sama really is a genius. (Even keeping the trauma was a nice and unexpected variable created by author-sama.)
no1
Yeah the author of this story really has some good ideas. The main character Van and the plot of the story all seem like generic, stereotypical otherworldly fantasy type. But it all just seems distinct and memorable from other similar stories. I know that this story is already a light novel, but I hope an English publishing company picks up the light novel and translate it for an english reading audience
Doc
Personally I find Kanoko’s venus a little…”whatever the author needs it to do”. Her ability is described as copying her memories and emotions into a target that she forms a two way connection with. The problem here is just because somebody implants a memory in your head doesn’t mean you would immediately act upon that memory. Not unless you were given a stimulus to recall that memory.
She also uses her power to brainwash Narumi in Origin which again doesn’t fit with how her ability is described.
I think it’s a very neat concept for an ability but I wish the author was a little more consistent in how they execute it. As currently her power could apparently do anything related to the brain that the author wants it to do
Jonathan Hurd
I think the author has done a decent job on staying consistent with Venus. People communicate a lot of information through eye contact and movement.
As far as brainwashing goes it was explained a while back that Kanako could ingratiate herself to others but it was impossible to get people to betray friends or their beliefs for her.
She can input certain emotions or images, but the human mind is a complex thing and it will reject foreign invasion especially if a person is on guard against it. Part of why Kanako could trick Narume was because Narume first didn’t understand Kanakos ability that well and also didn’t know Kanako could use it through Angels connection. Also in Narume’s case she was asked a favor to keep the fact that Kanako ‘her close friend’ connected to Angel. It would be different if the request was betray the Bravers, share secrets, or hurt someone.
Another reason why Venus would have issues against Fituns bunch is they’re all fanatics and the main bodies are brain dead.
Finally I will just say that we have seen many cases of the cheat skills of various people evolving after leveling up in Lambda. Doug’s telekinesis for one or Syphilids gas form. It would make sense if Kannakos Venus expanded a bit after some training in Lambda as well.
Zepariel
This is just speculation i don’t know any spoilers but i think the old lady is that cloud goddess Van guided a while back
Absolute Zer0
Maybe she used vessel. But can’t understand why she talk about atonement tho. Maybe because she was one of Alda’s dogs?
Tejing
I did consider this idea, but it doesn’t really explain the bloodless flesh bit. That sounds like a pretty clear tip-off that she’s part of Legion.
Jonathan Hurd
Could be a flesh golem Van made for her from spare flesh from Legion. I also assumed that she was part of Legion, but we clearly see Isis next to Van. It is possible they separated a part of themselves for the old woman, but I have no clue why Legion would want to atone.
Renrobt
Legion has long distance control and has already shown a while back that they can separate to a degree. Add that in that for a while now Kanako was trying to convince and then train them to be idols/magical girls cause when they learn to separate they would become the ultimate one man group. Kind of an oxymoron but it’s Legion we are talking about, you know what I mean.
So it is perfectly plausible that they have gained the ability to separate, with possibly a limit to how far that can be and that range decreasing for every separate personality.
Tejing
The atonement could be interpreted as just lightheartedly playing off of her earlier “I did a bad thing” statement.
Valeth
You my first thought was Kuhl upgraded his skills again, but because it was a old woman with a spear i moved away from that. It was the blood that that made me think of that…
Maybe Legion, but I’m not sure about that. While they can separate themselves, it has always either looked like one of them or the Yoku… I forget what they are called the skinless apes and Dog monsters the one personality creates.
ExplodingPenguinDood
I think so as well, her body was probably made of clouds, and she wants to atone for maybe not warning Van or even not be able to stop Fitun
Doc
There’s a couple of problems with it being Legion. First, Legion has never been described as taking a shape that wasn’t its normal ball of flesh with bits of body parts floating in it or one of the eighth guidance members. None of legion’s personalities has been described as looking like an old woman and it would be odd for the author to suddenly introduce a new ability for Legion that has no narrative purpose. The adventures wouldn’t know what any of Legion’s personalities look like, so why would they need to disguise themselves like that?
Secondly the ability that was described doesn’t match with Legion’s known abilities. Jack doesn’t need to sprinkle his flesh on a subject to teleport them and when he does teleport something, he goes with it. He also doesn’t teleport via Space magic. He teleports to where a lot of death is concentrated or near where Van’s death attribute is. So if Jack teleported the monsters away they would have just ended up near Van. Also it’s unlikely Legion’s “long distance control” skill would allow Legion to teleport a detached member of itself. Remember, Legion was next to Van at the start of the battle.
We just don’t have enough information at this point to determine who this old lady was. Clearly she knew of Van but it’s unclear if Van knew of her. She was separated from the main group.
Jonathan Hurd
I also have my doubts the old woman is Legion but I will give a few answers to the problems brought about her being one of them. While we haven’t seen Legion take on a form other than a main body or the meat ball they do have Form Alteration skill and have been leveling it up. While they have mainly used that to regain their original appearances I see no reason why they couldn’t alter it for a disguise.
One reason I would assume Legion might have taken a form different from theirs is they know their opponents this time are Murakami and Hajime. Both people have met the Eighth Guidance members so if they’re going to scout or help stragglers it might make more sense to not do it in their real bodies that could attract real enemies. Of course the question then becomes why not use Ghosts form since no one had met him, but then they might’ve gone Grandma to make it reasonable they’re staying behind.
I don’t disagree that the old woman’s teleport seems like it might be different from Jacks. I will say though that Jack can teleport to any source of death, this includes undead. So if it is really Jack they don’t have to go to Van they could go to a bunch of waiting Undead. I think part of Jacks teleportation is I think he needs to touch the target. So the flesh splashing could account for that. Not sure about the delay between the two teleportation though.
Doc
Having the ability to do something and the author suddenly showing an application of that ability with no clear context are two different things. Why would Legion care if Murakami or Hajami knows they’re helping adventurers out? How does that hinder Van in any way. His goal is to lure them out anyway.
The reasoning that looking like an old lady is the only way the adventurers would have focused on running to safety and abandon trying to help her is a little better of a justification but even that isn’t that strong a reason. Legion is more than capable of helping the adventurers reach safety without them even knowing of Legion’s presence. Legion has like every kind of assassin skill needed for that kind of thing.
And no, Jack’s teleport isn’t that fine controlled. It’s the reason Pluto ended up at the scene of a murder cult instead of by Van’s side a few chapters ago. Jack homes in on STRONG signals of death or Van’s death attribute magic. With Van killing thunder dragons and giants left and right there would have been no places more strongly giving off “death” vibes than around Van.
You also didn’t address the key problem with it being Jack’s teleport. He goes with the people he teleports. There’s no way long distance control could work on a separated member of Legion from some great distance away from the main body of Legion.
The point I’m making is while there isn’t zero reason to think that was Legion, we aren’t given enough information to know for sure who it is. I just find it highly unlikely what we know about Legion so far to say it’s them.
Tejing
Jonathan Hurd covered most of my arguments, but I just want to say, Isis was next to Van, but she could have been separated from the rest of Legion. The reason for her being there is to activate Hajime’s trauma, and her ability isn’t useful in a fight so separating her would make a lot of sense.
Doc
Isis was not there because of Hajime’s trauma. None of Van’s crew is even aware he has such an issue. He developed that trauma post death in Rodcorte’s domain. Nor does that address any of my counter argument of why it’s unlikely Legion.
Unless you’re suggesting the author chose this very convoluted way to reveal a new application of legion’s abilities to separate into its individual personalities all for little narrative reason (making adventurers run away to safety?)
Tejing
Legion has ALWAYS been able to separate out their individual personalities if they want. They were doing it all the way back in volume 6.
And Isis WAS there because of Hajime’s trauma. Kanako, Melissa, and Doug know about it cause they were there in Roddy’s divine realm at the time, and they told Van and the others about it.
Chapter 128:
“It means ‘victory,’ Pauvina,” said a lump of flesh with the form of a girl… the personality of Pluto, which had separated itself from Legion.
“By the way, what kind of state are you in when you’re using Long-range Control?”
“Unlike the Undead… Vandalieu, we can’t share our memories when we’re separate.”
“Hmm. Maybe it’s because unlike Van, who is one person who splits himself, you were originally different people?”
“I think so. For us, it’s more like ‘Separation’ than ‘Long-distance Control.’”
Chapter 226:
“Then isn’t it best to bring Kanako here? If it’s ‘Marionette,’ he definitely won’t be able to ignore her!” said Orbia.
“Let’s bring Legion-san here and have them transform into Isis’s form!” said Princess Levia.
The two of them looked gleeful as they made these disturbing suggestions.
Irazori
Huh, guess I forgot that Legion was able to divide itself for the various personalities. Must be because we’re all focused on the justified murdering of the aldiot forces.
Chiu ChunLing
It’s an understandable mistake because they used to only be able to use their Form Alteration on the main body. The separated members would still be flesh-colored shapes.
And we haven’t got an explanation for looking like someone who isn’t even a member of Legion in the first place…though they did say they were going to try something with the bodies of those villagers from before.
VEreality
Thank you Yoshi-sama!
Good to know that Van is now established as a god. I mean we all knew already but now it’s set in stone.
We are teased. This is just the tip and I already love it. God I can barely wait for Van to go in an all out war against gods. For now Fitun will do, but I am still looking at Alda. He is going down.

Lightnovelfan
Yay, new chapter. Perfect start into the new week. Thx Yoshi.
Ok, so who is this mysterious woman? I can´t think of anyone that would fit the description. First I thought it was Legion because it was mentioned that only flesh was scattered, but I don´t think any of them had the appearance of an old woman. Guess I will have to wait. Those guards are cute, thinking Rank 8 monsters are a calamity. Van and his friends snack them for breakfast.
Next something outside of this chapter. Do you think Van is still going to become an adventurer? This was the only reason for starting a business in the first place, but at this point it might be a little redundant. But I still hope for an arc where he visits the adventurer school and is treated condescending by upper class-men, only to show them how pitiful they really are.
Next, have you also been wondering why the only one that is doing what Rodcorte wanted them to do is Van? He is greatly developing Lambda by introducing new technology, eradicating threats like evil gods and raising the living-standards (at least in his own nation), causing a growth in population ( Rodcorte´s only goal, to increase his own authority and might).
Gohankuten
The reason he doesn’t become an adventurer is because he would have to show his status to become one and he doesn’t want to do that. That’s why he went Tamer and Merchant route since he gets identity without having to reveal his status.
mexgema
All of these developments don’t help Rodcort though, because they’re all happening outside of his circle of reincarnation.
ObserverBias
As for the woman, she seems to know Vandalieu from previous experience, so I’m going out on a limb to say she’s the Spiritualist he met in a previous duchy and accidentally put her out of work. Alternately or additionally, she seems to in some capacity relate to either Ricklent or Zuruwarn (I’ve forgotten which has domain over space) based on the space attribute(?) magic she seems to use to “send” those ogres and dragons elsewhere.
As for Vandalieu’s goals, think they’ve been redundant ever since he became the Eclipse Emperor (iirc that was around the time he wanted to be a “noble”). For all his abilities, allies and capabilities, he doesn’t want for much due to the immediate previous 2 lives (that he remembers) being highly lackluster.
And reckon Rodcorte’s whole bit is centered on Van’s emotionally-charged threat from waaay back when he was the very first death of the reincarnated. Irony being that Van almost _immediately_ chilled out upon having a loving single mother (in lieu of his other parent being taken to pieces), then wound up poking at the embers that were Alda’s feud with Vida and tripping into godslayer-level powers. From Rodcorte’s point of view, he has had no idea what Van has been up to since birth (as iirc he didn’t even send him with a Divine Protection in hopes he would die ASAP), and on top of that, he’s mosh-stomping the hornet’s nest and getting Alda’s lukewarm gaze in his (Rodcorte’s) direction, to the point that he’s gone and revealed his fuckery with reincarnating people without planning things out with other gods, in a bid to get Van taken out “before he gets EVEN MORE dangerous and has a legitimate motive to kill me/us.”
There’s a slight possibility Rodcorte sent the wrong braggart in having Kanata target Vandalieu and speaking for him, but he has since doubled, tripled, quadrupled down on a bad bet.
Death God
The becoming a noble for human society is still pretty necessary, especially now Alda is raising heroes to kill him. It would be best if he has a good rep like(Schneider) to take of a one sided he is the evil (Demon king) rousing from Heinz and company.
Jonathan Hurd
I think Vans goals have slightly changed. Originally his plan was to fit into noble society and use that as a shield. I think as he’s gone forward seen how corrupt nobles are and the fact that reincarnators are being born without any real connections to society the goal changed. Van is no longer trying to fit in he is now trying to change it. I think part of this is also because he’s sick of Heinz saying he’s for change while doing nothing.
I do think Van will eventually become an Adventurer. The requirement to get the license without status check was being a member of the Merchants guild and he’s basically that now. I think the reason he hasn’t bothered to become an adventurer is there are more important parts for him in the Tamers and Merchants guild. He’s using the two guilds to help legitimize ghouls. Adventurers just hunt things. People are less likely to listen to the economic benefits of ghouls from an Adventurer versus a merchant who sells products made by ghouls and a tamer who has tamed them.
Renrobt
Don’t forget:
Van has only been in town for about 2 months. To become an actual member the Merchants guild you have to run a business and make some profit over the course of a 3 month trial period. Until that you are only a trainee.
The only reason he hasn’t used the loophole to become an adventurer is because it is not yet available. So in the meantime he became the ruler of the city from the shadows and the king of the red light district, legitimize the ghouls as actual people thus making the populace recognize creatures with ranks for something other than monsters, discover a couple of new races while experimenting with taming and mutating, revolutionize prosthetics while completely breaking previous human limits by having them learn skills previously unique to undead, and the list goes on.
Oh and did I mention that a major reason for this is also to draw out his enemies and so far he has taken care of one, one more is about to be taken care of and the third will probably realize that this is just a trap for them.
Man he is such a multi tasker.
Lord Rin
Well actually technically Van can use the loophole now. The loophole only requires a person to be an official member of ANY other guild in order for that person to join the Adventurer’s Guild without having their status seen. Van is an official member of the Tamer’s Guild. I think Van just forgot that he can use the loophole now because he’s enjoying working at a food stand too much to remember he can already become an adventurer.
InfernoHomura
He is a multi tasker because he has the Demon King’s Tentacles, if you know what I mean ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Doc
Personally I don’t see why he thinks he needs to be an adventurer or a noble at this point. He’s the Emporer of the entire Mountain Boundary region. Essentially in control of the entire center of the continent. If he needed a “shield” to make it harder for people to kill him he should just be making use of his status as the leader of a nation. He could go to the heads of both rival countries and seek recognition of his authority. Or go to the feudal lords within those countries and directly appeal to them. Both neighboring countries to Talosheim at least tacitly acknowledge Vida’s races (one much more than the other) and I’m sure the more friendly one would be open to trade negotiations with a region as massive as the mountain boundary region.
The primary reason he’s in Morksi isn’t to be an adventurer or a noble, it was to act as bait to draw in the evil God in control of Birkine and the reincarnated group that wants to kill him (with Fitun being a late edition he didn’t know about)
Jonathan Hurd
From Rodidiots conversations with his Familiar Spirits, the reason Rodidiot is dead set on killing Van is Van is a threat. Rodidiot is a selfish idiot. Van is the only being currently in existence that can hurt him. Rodidiot doesn’t care about Vans thoughts or feelings he wants the threat gone.
That’s basically the long and the short of why Rodidiot keeps sending people to kill Van. The more the assassination attempts fail the more threatened he feels and the more assassin’s he sends. This cycle will never end til one of them is dead because Rodidiot won’t let it.
Lord Rin
Yes Van will become an adventurer. He’s doing this because it gives him a legal standing and official identification and his goal is to use it to create connections and gain influence so he can protect himself so people like Heinz can’t just try to kill him all willy-nilly. Remember that Lambda has a very vague definition of human rights so if an influential person accuses somebody that has no influence or legal standing then most people will just turn a blind eye even if it results in death.
As for how Van is the only one who is even developing Lambda like what Rodcorte’s original stated goals were (though Van is doing it in Vida’s reincarnation circle instead) you can blame the lack of development on Rodcorte’s incompetence. Not only did he not even bother to check that the 100 people he was planning to reincarnate had the personality or ability that would equip them to develop a world, ever since he learned that Van is alive still he has completely focused on telling every Braver that has died to go kill Van and forgotten his original goal. Ones that refused were reincarnated into environments where they’d have no choice but to fight Van like what happened with Perseus, Urdr and Skanda. Noah only got out of that predicament because she chose to incarnate in an adult body. Even then, Rodcorte is hoping that somehow Noah will get into conflict with Van.
Doc
Regarding Rodcorte, his godly authority/power is directly tied to the number of souls going through his system of reincarnation. Of the planets he manages, Earth and Origin have billions of people, all of which go through his system. Him saying Lamda isn’t as “developed” means it has a far lower population. And since all Vida races don’t go through his system he sees none of those souls. So by “develop” he wanted the reincarnated people to improve the living conditions such that Alda’s supported races increase their population.
Rodcorte originally didn’t care what happened to Van upon appearing in Lamda. He assumed he’d kill himself upon realizing he was cursed. When Van became a threat and needed serious attention paid to him is when he started guiding anybody he met into Vida’s circle of reincarnation. At that point he started removing souls from his system and because of how his system was made it was compromising every planet his system touched, not just Lamda (which is why he panicked and was a hot second away from jettisoning Lamda out from his system which would have slowly killed all of Alda’s supported races over a few generations).
Van’s existence is at this point a greater threat to him than his original goal of getting more souls through his system.
Jonathan Hurd
I don’t think Vans guiding affected any Souls outside of Lambdas. Rodidiot was careful at least in one thing and that was making sure the amalgamation he made by fusing the creation hero’s souls together wouldn’t ever return to Lambda or any world with magic. He feared Vida might try to resurrect Zakart and the rest. So while Lambda, Earth, and Origins souls are all in the same system I don’t believe there is any cross over of th he souls. To also be fair it’s not like Lambda wasn’t already throwing errors all over the place with the DK and Vidas systems converting people. Van converting more was startling and annoying but not really world ending.
Doc
I forget the name of the chapter but it was right before Rodcorte decided to tell Alda what he was doing. Van isn’t guiding souls outside Lambda (well, maybe one in Origin as Banda). Every time he guides a soul that was previously in Rodcorte’s system it creates a bug in the system. The event that caused Rodcorte to panic was when he destroyed people’s souls. That not only creates a bug it means somebody gets born in the worlds he manages without a soul. His circle of reincarnation connects all of the planets he manages. That’s why he was ready to cut Lambda loose. Van could have irreparablely damaged his system causing people to be born without souls (basically being braindead husks) in all 3 planets. Again, Rodcorte himself says this. He had to be talked down from it by his reincarnated subordinates.
Tejing
Souls don’t move between worlds in Roddy’s system, except manually. You’re right that the errors from Lambda have the potential to cause problems in other worlds eventually, but that’s through the system breaking down, not the direct issue of the souls disappearing, and it hasn’t happened yet.
Lord Rin
Well technically souls can be moved between worlds automatically. He set up his system so souls can do so if a world has an urgent need of a large influx of souls for some reason. The problem is that he has made the system too inflexible so errors multiply exponentially when a large amount of souls leave his system at once which is what Van is doing by guiding others to Vida’s circle of reincarnation. Basically it’s like a conveyor belt where Van guides souls out of his system, it creates massive errors, the loss of so many souls prompts the system to try to move souls from other worlds to replenish the ones lost, Rodcorte and his subordinates have to then specifically intervene to not only fix the initial errors but also try to prevent new souls traveling to Lambda and since there are no new souls then that creates even more errors because now there’d be a bunch of lives born without souls and that has to also be dealt with.
Tejing
Chapter 170:
“Just in case, I placed that soul not in Lambda, but on Earth, a world where magic and monsters do not exist, a world where gods do not take action. In my system, the circles of reincarnation of different worlds do not exchange souls with each other, so there is no chance that it would have reincarnated in Lambda… Could it be?!”

Everyone gets here so fast. Also, it seems like the real fight begins in the next chapter. Stay tuned
Wannabe
Kanako’s imagination continues to be casually terrifying. She’s got a discount sharingan now it seems, don’t make eye contact while fighting her or you take sanity damage.
The dungeon monster rule is interesting… They’d made a dungeon version of the town so I guess the monsters aren’t a threat if they all evacuate into the church? Unless they aren’t all from a dungeon.
Tonatsi
I can imagine Van specifically making a painting that is maximised to the extreme for her to memorise and send.
Absolute Zer0
Mangekyo Painting😂😂😂. This kind of eye-abilities are always amazing.
InfernoHomura
That would be like receiving a call or a text from a karen, coz you know karens are sometimes the bane of our existance
Kidd
Thank you to the sponsors and of course, to Yoshi, for this chapter!
Aight, I can imagine Alda going cray after seeing this happen and, although reluctantly, thanking Van for saving the city………or he’d also use this opportunity to attack?
WBee
Thanking? Definitely no, most likely he will think of Van as even more dangerous and try to speed up his new generation hero plan.
lazygeko
Judging from Alda’s stance, he would probably deem it a worthy sacrifice. One human city and its inhabitants dead in exchange for the demon king? He would probably give a big thumbs up. Of course, if it succeeds.
Kidd
You guys seriously think Alda’s THAT heartless? 🤨 Judging from what Fitun said about Alda impaling him with stakes if he ever finds out about taking control of their believers’ bodies, I think Alda AT LEAST has a bit of compassion in him…..I think?
Then again, Morksi is a city where Vida’s influence has been growing quite recently. So he might tolerate it? Welp, it’s been a while since we’ve had a chapter with his pov in it
Giorgos Giorgos
You give Alda too much credit. He’s the one who ordered the genocide of entire species because he of his hyproctical justice. In simple words, Alda is a fanatical extermist who holds his own views as correct even after thousans of years have already past. If it means taking down Vandalieu he’s prepared to make ‘sacrifices’. The end justifies the means, so to speak. Also, Fitun clearly said that even though Alda would’ve stopped him, he would be seen as a hero if he succeded and, from my understanding, this includes Alda himself. Which is another example of him being a hypocrite.
Renrobt
Don’t forget that while yes he is okay with genocide if it coincides with his goals and justice, the majority of the population is Human, good chunk of them being worshipers of Alda and his subordinates, at least until recently. He seems to be the annoying Hero type character in personality where things should be the way he sees them, else it’s not moral. Even the slightest deviation from that is being someone reprehensible.
And its only Fitun being a war maniac speaking that the End Justifies the Means. It is possible that if he kills Van Alda would reluctantly let it slide, because Van acknowledged to be more dangerous than Guduranis, at this point even by him. But his first reaction will most likely be snapping at Fitun and then after that letting him go.
Valeth
You also have to consider that Fitun is a God that was chosen and raised to Godhood by Alda. To me this means Alda knows what kind of personality he has and approved of it enough that he chose him to become a god.
As such if this succeeds I am pretty sure all will be forgiven even with all of the collateral damage that he created.
Doc
Alda likely did not have direct say in Fitun becoming a God. Each of the original gods that were in control of the aspects could raise up heroes. Those heroes would become subordinate gods helping the greater gods in their work. As Fitun was the god of thunderclouds which itself was a subordinate position to a God who had authority over clouds but “died” in battle with the demon king the god that originally had say probably would have been the god of the wind or water aspects. I’m forgetting their names at the moment.
Tejing
Fitun wasn’t around during the war with the DK. He became a god later, during Alda’s 100k years of supremacy, so yes, Alda definitely had a say.
Doc
You have no way of knowing that to say “definitely’. Him not being around for the fight with the original demon king doesn’t change what I said. All the gods have the ability to raise up heroes into subordinate gods, not just Alda.
From earlier chapters in the God’s divine realm Fitun was pretty clear he was not in line with Alda’s thinking or direct followers. I’d say this is a pretty clear indication Alda is not well aware of Fitun’s personality or else he would have foreseen Fitun taking things into his own hands, removing the need for Fitun to hide any of his actions.
Tejing
All the gods have the capacity, at least in theory, yes, but all the gods whose new subordinate gods would have ended up in Alda’s faction are in Alda’s faction themselves. They acknowledge him as the chief of the gods and follow him, so of course he had a say in what they did.
Jonathan Hurd
Remember Fitun clearly stated he would get staked if he backs out now. So for them they have to kill Van and win or die to Van. There is no way Alda would be okay with what they did with no results.
Also remember this is Alda we’re talking about. His current plan to fight Van is to throw both the entire Amid Empire and Orbaume Kingdom at Van not caring about the casualties. Alda doesn’t care about the death toll as long as the survivors worship him.
Lord Rin
He really is that heartless. Otherwise he wouldn’t have started a genocidal war against Vida who just wanted to increase the population after the war with Guduranis. Bear in mind that by that point, there was only a combined global population of only 3000 humans, elves and dwarfs. And yet because some of Vida’s races were descended from Evil Gods, Alda and Bellwood started another war almost immediately after to genocide the new races.
When Fitun says that Alda would stake them, he means only if he and his subordinates come back without having killed Van. Alda is just as much an ‘ends justify the means’ sort of guy as Fitun with the exception that he hides it behind a thin veneer or righteousness.
Doc
Alda’s goal is to reset the races to just be the ones before the original Demon King came to his planet. He views all of Vida’s races as mistakes. He’s willing to compromise somewhat with Titans and Beastmen because they’re races birthed from the original races’ gods (Colossus God, Beast God) but all the ones birthed from monsters are a no go.
That being said, his “authority” is judgement. For the same reason he judged Vida’s decision to make more races to help fight the first Demon King he wouldn’t support Fitun hijacking the bodies of Alda believers.
That said, if the end result is Van being killed/sealed away then Fitun would likely get away with a minor punishment. Probably just being “staked” for a few hundred years instead of Vida’s several thousand. Fitun doesn’t really care, he just wants to battle a worthwhile opponent as he views Alda’s forces as being too indirect in how they deal with problems (divine messages that only a few can understand, or training up selected heroes from scratch)
no1
I had expected from the previous battle chapters that these types of battles takes a few chapters to finish, but this chapter was a bit slow. It only mentioned why Van needed to wait before fighting for real and how useless Fitun’s attacks are. If thing are going as well as it seems, then Fitun’s group will be seen as a group of bandits assaulting Van’s group while Van is trying to protect the city. I appreciated one more chapter this month, thanks Yoshi. I guess we can only expect new chapters starting next month
ObserverBias
Speaking of, we never did get a look at what Fitun’s “backup sabotage” squad was being delayed by, did we?
no1
maybe Van’s allies have already dealt with Fitun’s sabotage squad. Fitun really is like an evil god now. It is one thing to unleash a horde monsters in the direction of a city of humans, with not regard for the lives living there. But it is another thing to purposely break the walls around the city to use the people’s suffering as a distraction for Van
Valeth
It was my impression they had just not noticed to massive attack (Signal) yet. Their job was to also attack the city to distract Van, as I understood it. Fitun thinks Van will become distracted and lose focus when this happens allowing him to take him down.
Superboy8338
Well it’s official, Van is confirmed to be a god. Thank you for the update, Yoshi!!!
WholesomeAF
Old woman? Knows vandalieu? Turned monsters to mist? Who?
no1
I thought the old woman was just legion in disguise, since it did mention that there was only flesh which got scattered
WholesomeAF
Woohoo! I’m early! Thanks for the chapter!
jmoreno126
Well… This was anticlimactic. There was lot of unnecessary and redundant information.
Doc
Agreed. This chapter really only told us 3 things. Who’s currently around Van (the reincarnated group that sided with him). That they are confused at Hajime’s subordinates who seem way more powerful than they should be and at Hajime’s changed personality/physique.
And we learned that Fitun is affected by Hajime’s trauma and what specifically his attack plan was.
Tejing
Who’s the old woman? I can think of so many possibilities, but none of them seem that much more convincing than the others. The reference to bloodless flesh makes me think of Legion, but they wouldn’t be talking about atonement, or duty for that matter.
I didn’t think of Fitun having absorbed Hajime’s trauma. That’s a hilarious reason for him to falter. I love it. But who are Fitun’s “subordinates” that are following behind the monsters?
The guards are so worried about Van… it’s cute. I hope they pull through this ok.
Edit: On further consideration, I’m thinking it makes a fair bit of sense if the old woman is Valkyrie, and legion has gained the ability to take on appearances other than what they had in their previous lives.
Edit 2: Also, I suppose I should admit here, it looks like I was wrong about the worship-to-xp thing ending when the demiurge job did. I guess it’s not a matter of xp affinity, but an actual effect, most likely of the demigod skill.
Morgan
I thought the woman was Baba Yaga. Though that’s mostly because Valkyrie wasn’t described as an old woman but Baba Yaga was and that Valkyrie’s ability was to (I simplified) create undead beserkers.
Tejing
Baba Yaga isn’t an old woman. She considers herself a witch, but she’s young-looking,
Volume 6 char summary:
Baba Yaga – A beautiful, blonde, Eastern-European woman. The reason she had her hair in twin-tails to give a youthful impression was to have her enemies let their guards down due to her appearance. She wore a body suit that exposed the curves of her body, but this was for functional reasons; it was an item that she had stolen from a research facility she had attacked, made of cutting-edge materials.
None of Legion’s members look like an old woman, so if this is Legion, they must have gained the ability to take on other appearances.
Also, the only member of legion who talks with all exclamation points and talks about bravery all the time is Valkyrie.
Your norm Purple Tea addict
I second that Tejing
Well according to my memories
They’re all younger than Van(when he was in Origin)
Van even mentioned
You’ve grown blah blah blah Pluto
Lord Rin
Baba Yaga is… well a lolibaba >.>
Dean1997
The way the monsters disappeared though implies it wasn’t Legion, because as far as I know it doesn’t have such an ability.
Tejing
Jack’s teleportation?
Doc
For the record, Jack does not teleport via Space magic. He teleports to strong areas of death or near places with Van’s death attribute magic. Jack also teleports along with the subjects. Since Legion was near Van the entire time during the battle its unlikely Legion separated themselves and had Jack teleport away (its doubtful legion’s “long distance control” skill would even function like that)
Tejing
I never said Jack’s ability was any kind of space magic, I’m not sure why you brought that up, but he DOES choose where they go, within the limitations of the whole death thing. There are a lot of options. I’m sure some of them would be safe places to send those monsters.
Regarding Jack teleporting with the subjects, I’m not 100% sure that that didn’t happen here… the text isn’t totally clear. That part is a bit of a wrinkle though, I agree.
Also, Isis was near Van, but she may have been the one who was separated out. She was only there to set off Hajime’s trauma anyway. Doesn’t need the full strength of the others for that.
Doc
I mention it’s not space magic because that should be the first thing that comes to mind when people teleport as it has less conditions than Jack’s version. And it is not totally correct to say Jack chooses where to go. If that was the case, Pluto wouldn’t have ended up where that death cult was with Doug. Jack teleports to places of strong death not just anywhere where a death happened. This actually means Jack does not know where he will teleport to ahead of time except in Lambda where he can lock in to Van’s death magic.
Van and Legion are also unaware of Hajime’s trauma as he developed it after Legion reincarnated in Lambda. I think you’re overthinking things. Legion teleported to Van’s location with Doug and so Isis was all of Legion. As to why pick Isis for Legion to take take the form of at that moment, who knows. Why was Legion, Pluto, beforehand? Legion just likes picking a member of its personalities to take the form of at random. They can use all the powers of their combined form nomatter which member Legion outwardly looks like so saying “her powers wouldn’t be helpful” is meaningless.
Tejing
Jack chooses where to go. He’s done so reliably for the whole story up to now. He just accidentally screwed up once in all the times he’s used it.
I already addressed the issues of legion’s abilities and who knows about Hajime’s trauma in another thread, so I won’t rehash it here, except to say that Legion could easily have teleported to Van, left Isis’s separated form behind, then teleported on somewhere else.
Wannabe
When I see someone that can mutter with exclamation points, I think Valkyrie. I don’t know if that fits with how all the monsters died though. I would assume the counter ability would only get one of them.
Tejing
I don’t think they died… they were just teleported away.
daxrocket
Wait, where did it say that Van still gets xp from worship?
Tejing
It’s not directly stated, but it’s implied by the demiurge job description above Gordon’s status.
Metazoxan
pretty much the chapter after he got the job it was stated he as getting EXP from worship.
It’s also why he couldn’t oppose the statue anymore since there was now a practical reason for it and he had no good reason to refuse besides just not wanting one.
Tejing
You missed the word “still.” The question isn’t whether that happened or not, but whether it would keep happening after he finished the Demiurge job. This chapter was our first indication that it does keep happening.
Doc
I’m not sure why that would have been in question. Van keeps the effects of all his past jobs. Why would it suddenly work differently just for the Demiurge job?
Tejing
Because there’s also an effect where exp from doing different things can have widely varying efficiency in leveling up a job. Killing monsters is great for leveling combat jobs, but not very effective for leveling a farming job. It seemed most reasonable to assume that the exp from worship effect was an extension of that mechanic rather than an actual effect of the job/skill.
Soundwave
Thanks to everyone as all ways who supports this series! I wonder if Van is going to curb stomp Fitun or its going to be equal in terms of losses I kinda doubt Fitun will be able to do too much to fully effect Van’s side when it comes to the fight between Vida and Alda’s factions
Tonatsi
He’s definitely going to Curbstomp, now that Daniel is no longer watching.

Alex-dono
Thanks for the chapter I just woke up and here it was. Also was the old lady someone who was already revealed because I can’t remember who it could possibly be?
Gawain
I think it was more just a random old lady who was close to death and was thus very easily guided by Van. Since she was guided, she was also being controlled loosely and thus charged ahead. Either that, or she was an undead. After all, she had no blood, so the undead theory makes more sense to me.
Alex-dono
Oh thanks that makes sense. If she was guided I feel like it might be revealed later that she was someone who frequented Van’s food stand and at some point in her life she was an accomplished mage or adventurer so she would ba a valuable ally in the fight in the fight against Idiotcorte, Alda’s faction, Heinz and the evil reincarnators.
Gawain
Glad I could be of help, but it’s a complete guess on my part since I haven’t read ahead in the raws, so I could be completely wrong so don’t put to much faith in what I say!
Doc
Van’s guidance doesn’t work like that. For a living person to be guided by Van they either need to be in his presence for a long time and receptive to him or they need to be suicidal. Being old is not enough.
Her knowing who Van is and is capable of suggests she’s not just some random old lady who wondered by and decided to kill herself.
From the information we’re given we just can’t definitively claim who that was. They seemed to use space magic of some sort which only a few people Van is acquainted with knows (or people who know of Van but he hasn’t personally met yet)
