The Iron Boulder Brigade, one of the D-class adventurer parties based in the city of Morksi, were on the way back to the city after venturing into a Dungeon on a commission.
“… It’s strange,” muttered their leader, Rock.
Although he didn’t go as far as to stop walking in order to go deep into thought, he was confused.
“What’s so strange? There being less monsters around the city than usual can be explained by the fact that it’s winter and that Vandalieu is in the city, right?” asked one of his companions.
It wasn’t rare for weak monsters such as Goblin and Horned Rabbits to come close to the city. But the cold of winter affected monsters just as it did humans. Thus, there were relatively fewer monsters around this time of year.
And Vandalieu had been training Fang and his apprentices Simon and Natania between the city and the Devil’s Nests this year. That caused cowardly monsters to flee, while monsters like Goblins that couldn’t judge the strength of their foes were hunted as part of the training.
Rock’s companions sighed as they recalled spotting Vandalieu and his companions on the way back, along with the very conspicuous Fang.
“Come to think of it, Fang’s Rank increased again, didn’t it?”
“He’s grown so much bigger that you could tell even at a distance. A Huge Hellhound… That’s a monster that sometimes appeared as the Boss of Dungeons that we abandoned partway through, right?”
“The appearance of the rats hadn’t changed… but their Ranks have probably increased as well… I’m honestly shocked.”
Fang and the rats had been Rank 2 when Rock and his companions had first encountered them; they were Rank 5 now. It wasn’t that they didn’t feel happy at all for their acquaintances making progress, but it seemed that the mental impact of being overtaken by them in such a short period of time was greater than being happy for them.
“You guys haven’t mentioned Simon or Natania… Why is that?” Rock asked.
“Because we’re jealous of Simon,” one of his companions replied.
“He’s not someone to pity anymore; he’s a rival now,” added another.
“You guys… I haven’t forgotten the fact that it’s winter or that Vandalieu and his buddies are here,” said Rock. “I’m saying that I feel like something is strange, even if you consider those things!”
“You feel like, you say… Is it because there are more newbies out hunting Goblins because of all the Goblin-hunting commissions? I heard that E-class parties, D-class guys hunting alone and guys that are in debt are getting quite into it.”
Goblins had great reproductive capabilities among monsters, so there were constantly new commissions to hunt them at the Adventurers’ Guild. However, these commissions had never been considered to be particularly good up until now. Goblins were indeed weak, but the only thing that could be gained from them were the ears that served as proof of having killed them, which didn’t sell for much. There were no Goblin parts that could be sold as usable materials, and they were certainly not prey that one would hunt by choice in the middle of winter.
Goblin meat that had previously been considered to be worthless, and although it still wasn’t worth much, it could now be sold because of Gobu-gobu, the dish that Vandalieu had introduced, and the commissions from people who wanted the ingredients to make it.
Up until now, defeating one Goblin wouldn’t earn enough to pay for even a single night at a cheap lodging house, but if one was willing to go through some effort to disassemble a Goblin’s corpse and bring its meat back to the city, one could now afford not only accommodation but a simple meal as well.
It was a far easier job for cash-strapped rookie adventurers than shoveling snow in the city or on the highway. Thus, there were more rookie adventurers around the city than other years.
Incidentally, the snow-shoveling that was no longer done by rookie adventurers had been taken up as day jobs by the inhabitants of the slums.
“The atmosphere around the city is a little different from last year because of that. Isn’t that the reason why?” said one of Rock’s companions.
“… That does explain why I feel like I’m seeing more unfamiliar adventurers around,” said Rock.
The city of Morksi was a city of commerce, with large numbers of people entering and leaving the city every day. Naturally, there were many adventurers among them. It wasn’t rare for new faces to visit the city while escorting caravans of merchants, nor for familiar faces to depart the city.
On top of that, there were the circumstances that Rock’s companions had just described. It wasn’t out of the question for Rock to see more groups of unfamiliar adventurers.
“You’re right. I suppose it’s nothing to really worry about,” said Rock as he hurried back towards the city with his party.
Hajime Fitun loudly crushed an insect with the palm of his hand.
“Are you sure you want to do that, Commander? If you crush these things, Vandalieu will learn of our location, won’t he?” said one of his heroic spirit subordinates who had been physically incarnated in a human body.
“It is no longer troublesome for our location to become known,” said Hajime Fitun.
He was heading towards the city of Morksi along with his heroic spirit subordinates.
Hajime Fitun had treated the area around the city of Morksi as Vandalieu’s territory. With that being the case, hiding within that territory would have been meaningless.
Hajime Fitun let out a sigh as he saw that Vandalieu had not appeared immediately after he crushed the Undead insect. “No difference from when I tested this before, huh. It seems that he doesn’t share the Undead insects’ senses or knows all of their exact locations,” he said. “If he did, he would have probably come attacking us right now, after all.”
Hajime Fitun had crushed several of the Undead insects sent out by Vandalieu. The first time, he had used an animal that he controlled with ‘Marionette.’ The second time, with a passing traveler rather than an animal. And the third time, just a moment ago, he had crushed the insect himself.
But neither Vandalieu nor his subordinates had appeared.
“No, I suppose he’s just observing. It’s possible that he knows our location and is planning something so that we can’t get away,” said Hajime Fitun.
Indeed, he had been prepared to escape at any moment when he had tested crushing the insects previously. It was possible that Vandalieu was deliberately leaving Hajime Fitun and his subordinates for now so that they wouldn’t escape.
“Then are we going to call off the plan?” one of the heroic spirits who had descended upon the members of the Flame Blades, looking dissatisfied.
“We can’t do that, Commander,” said Gordon Bobby with a frown. “How long do we have to stay in these bodies?”
For the heroic spirits, it was their first time being in a real body in a long time.
Though there were differences between them, all of their bodies were significantly weaker than the bodies they had possessed while alive – which was why they had been able to enjoy combat in Fitun’s trial labyrinth that was only B-class in difficulty.
As there were not many individuals who possessed the ‘Heroic Spirit Descent’ Skill, it had been refreshing for them to experience real combat again, even though they had only been fighting against monsters.
But they did not want to stay in these bodies long-term. And the battles against monsters had been training for the real, decisive battle – nothing more than an opening act.
What they desired was a fight to the death against the modern-era Demon King Vandalieu and his subordinates. Vandalieu, who had absorbed fragments of the Demon King, defeated Pure-breed Vampires, cornered the heroes that Alda had raised and devoured Alda’s trusted confidant.
They would certainly feel dissatisfaction at the postponement of this battle.
And this was the same for Hajime Fitun.
“Definitely not. We are carrying on with the plan,” he said.
One of the heroic spirits laughed. “As expected of you, Commander!”
“Don’t get too festive. Even if we fall back here, the situation wouldn’t improve a single bit. Don’t forget that we are the ones who are at a disadvantage,” Hajime Fitun reminded his subordinates.
Falling back here would achieve nothing but grant Vandalieu more time, and they were at the disadvantage. That was the greater reason for pressing on.
“Surround the city, wait for the signal and attack,” Hajime Fitun continued. “Don’t ever pass through anything that looks like a hole, even if you made it yourself. Don’t forget that the enemy has a space-attribute mass of flesh and evil god.”
Hajime Fitun had not exchanged any information with Alda’s forces, and nor had Gordon Bobby or the other heroic spirits. Thus, they did not possess even the small amount of information that Alda had regarding Vandalieu’s battle with Birkyne.
However, he did not find it difficult to imagine that Gufadgarn, the evil god of labyrinths who had created the Trial of Zakkart and wandered the continent, was on Vandalieu’s side.
And he had not forgotten Legion, who was also capable of teleportation.
“Don’t worry about the Undead insects and surveillance network of spirits. Ignore the humans around the city as well… Once the battle to the death begins, they’ll be caught up in it too and crushed anyway,” said Hajime Fitun.
“So, Commander, what is the ‘signal’ that you mentioned?” one of the heroic spirits asked.
They were the ones attacking, but they were the ones who were cornered with no way out. History was written by the victors, but if they could not become the victors, they would become known as the side of evil. Even if they were to manage to escape through some miracle, Alda would likely declare them as unworthy of being gods and impale them with the same stakes that he had used on Vida.
“You will know soon enough,” Hajime Fitun said with a smile.
“You have done well to believe in me and follow me up until today. The two of you are now fully capable of using your artificial limbs,” said Vandalieu.
He was in the same grass-covered plain that was some distance away from the city as always, training Simon and Natania. Now that the training had reached a certain stage, he had something to say to them.
Fang gave a small bark to praise Simon and Natania as well, and the rats began singing a congratulatory song. Through training, their Skill Levels and Ranks had increased, just as Rock and his party thought.
Fang had been the size of a cow, but he was now even larger than a buffalo. Meanwhile, the rats looked no different from before, but… their changes would certainly become apparent if they took a combat-ready posture.
“Ah, umm, you know… Are you serious, Master?” said Simon.
“You’re not joking?” said Natania, blinking in surprise.
“I’m serious,” said Vandalieu. “The two of you have acquired ‘Spirit Form User’ as new Jobs, and you can use your artificial limbs even better than if they were your original flesh limbs.”
“But isn’t that Job inferior, or rather, much inferior to yours, Master?” said Natania.
“Ignoring the differences from ‘Spirit Warrior,’ it doesn’t change the fact that you have acquired a convenient Job that is perfect for making full use of your spirit form. You should be proud of that,” Vandalieu told his apprentices. “And you have also become capable. You defeated a group of Kobolds on your own ten days ago, and managed to hunt Orcs one at a time on the edge of a Devil’s Nest five days ago. And yesterday, you defeated that mysterious Huge Stone Golem, didn’t you?”
“Ah, you mean the one that you suddenly brought with you out of nowhere,” said Simon.
“Mysterious, huh?” Natania smirked.
Vandalieu had made the two of them experience not only practice battles, but real battles as well, so that they would become able to fight even better with their artificial limbs than they had before they lost their original limbs.
He had increased the difficulty gradually, starting with small fry such as Horned Rabbits and Goblins, then moving onto a group of about ten Kobolds, then Rank 3 Orcs.
And finally, he had made them fight against a Rank 4 Huge Stone Golem. This was not something that Vandalieu had made with his ‘Golem Creation’ Skill, but something that Gufadgarn had teleported after it spontaneously appeared in the Dungeon disguised as the city of Morksi. It had the exact strength of a Rank 4 monster, unaffected by Vandalieu’s guidance or his ‘Super Strengthen Subordinates.’
Of course, it was nothing but a small fry to Vandalieu and his companions, but… to Simon and Natania, it had been a formidable foe. Both of them had been D-class adventurers before losing their limbs, barely able to defeat a single Rank 3 monster in one-on-one combat.
Although it wasn’t an easy battle, the two of them had defeated a Rank 4 monster together yesterday without too much difficulty.
In other words, they were already becoming more capable than they had been before losing their limbs.
“Considering those results, I think it’s more than fine to put an end to your training,” said Vandalieu.
“No, it’s just that knowing you, Master, we thought that you would declare that it was our graduation exam or do something along those lines before actually ending our training…” said Natania, looking confused.
“It’s a bit anticlimactic to just be suddenly told that we’ve graduated…” said Simon.
Vandalieu nodded. “I thought so too, but there was a little change in plans. I’ve decided to postpone your graduation exam.”
It seemed that he’d had similar thoughts as well.
“So, these are the symbols of your graduation,” Vandalieu said, throwing off the cloth that was covering his cart and revealing artificial limbs that were made of a metal that was clearly different from iron.
“W-what are these?!” Simon exclaimed.
“This is a collaboration work between me and some certain people,” said Vandalieu.
These were artificial limbs made of liquid metals such as Death Iron and Dark Copper, created with the skills of Talosheim’s blacksmith Datara, the Ghoul arms smith Tarea and Vandalieu himself. The liquid metal had been tempered, combined with materials originating from the Demon King’s fragments, and then imbued with magic.
“It’s my first time seeing something like this… This is… amazing. Is it really alright for me to receive something like this?” asked Natania.
“I’m grateful… I’m grateful, Master, but even I can tell that these are no ordinary items,” said Simon. “Are you sure about this?”
“Yes. They should function far better than the ones you’re using now, which I made by repurposing the limbs of full plate armor that I bought from an arms store in this city,” said Vandalieu. “If you were to sell even one of these, you could likely buy dozens of Magic Item artificial limbs that would function just as well as ordinary limbs.”
Through some repeated trial-and-error, the artificial limbs had become as functional as legendary-class Magic Items.
The ‘Aegis’ Melissa had remarked that there would be countless people who would gladly chop off one of their own limbs if they could receive an artificial limb like these in return.
“Ah, by the way, you can change their color as you like, so it would probably be best to have them appear as ordinary iron most of the time,” Vandalieu added hastily. “And it would be a terrible waste if you chose not to take them, so I won’t be accepting that as a choice. They’re custom-fitted to match your sizes, and they’re nothing more than ordinary metal artificial limbs if you don’t have the ‘Spirit Form’ Skill.”
“If that’s how it is, then… we’ll take it,” said Simon.
The two apprentices hesitated for a moment longer, but having learned that the artificial limbs had been made specially for them, they accepted them in the end.
They unfastened the belts that attached their current artificial limbs, removed their spirit forms from within the limbs and equipped their new artificial limbs. The moment they did, they immediately felt the difference between them and their old limbs.
“Amazing! They should be roughly the same weight, but they feel so light! The joints move so smoothly, too… Can they transform as well?!” Natania asked excitedly as Maroru and the other rats danced in a circle around her.
“They can,” Vandalieu replied. “Simon, you should try this as well. Next time you’re in battle, try saying ‘transform’ out loud while channeling Mana through your artificial arm.”
Simon frowned, falling silent for a moment as if hesitating about something, and then suddenly bowed his head towards Vandalieu. “Master! I have an earnest request to make! Could you please explain everything to me?! The truth is –”
“Is it something about the divine protection that you were so happy about last month has been revealed, and it has my name on it?” Vandalieu asked.
“Not all of the characters have been revealed, but yes… and I have been deliberately avoiding asking you up until now, but there are too many strange things about you, Master!” Simon continued. “When I asked Jessie about the ‘Spirit Form,’ ‘Materialization,’ and ‘Long-distance Control’ Skills, she told me that she’s never heard of anyone being able to use them to manipulate artificial limbs.”
“Well, she’s right about that. I was deliberately avoiding explaining that part,” said Vandalieu.
It was no exaggeration to say that the ‘Spirit Form’ and ‘Materialization’ Skills were almost exclusively possessed by Undead. There were almost no cases of non-Undead monsters possessing them, never mind ordinary humans. As for ‘Long-distance Control,’ it was entirely impossible.
“So, Master, I was thinking that maybe…” said Simon.
“Simon, let’s continue this later,” said Vandalieu.
“Master, I want you to tell me now!” Simon pressed.
“Simon, this isn’t the time to be saying that!” said Natania.
“Natania, you already know the truth about Master, don’t you? Shut up for a moment! Master, I really need to –”
Simon’s next words were drowned out by a roar coming from the sky.
“Huh?” Simon muttered in confusion, looking up.
There was a Dragon, over ten meters long, flying in the clear winter sky above.
“W-w-w-what the hell is that?!”
“Judging from its characteristics, it seems to be a Rank 8 Thunder Dragon,” Vandalieu observed. “By the way, Simon, what about our conversation?”
“Now’s not the time for that, is it?! A Dragon has appeared this close to the city, in a place that’s neither a Dungeon nor a Devil’s Nest! Why didn’t you notice sooner?!” Simon shouted.
“I told you that this isn’t the time, didn’t I!” said Natania.
Natania and Vandalieu had noticed the Dragon before Simon did. It was likely that he had been late to notice because he had been facing the ground with his head lowered towards Vandalieu.
Seeming to take notice of Simon and the others on the ground, the Thunder Dragon looked down and opened its mouth, which was lined with sharp teeth.
A bright white breath of lightning came from its throat. It covered a narrower area than a flame breath, but it travelled faster and was more accurate.
“Kimberley,” said Vandalieu.
“Got it!” said Kimberley the Schwartz Blitz Ghost as he appeared.
He possessed the ‘Wind Attribute Nullification’ Skill. Although the lightning breath collided with him, lightning was classified as belonging to the wind attribute in this world. Thus, Kimberley suffered no damage at all.
“‘Black Lightning,’” said Vandalieu, casting a ‘Dead Spirit Magic’ spell.
The Thunder Dragon howled in pain as it was pierced and scorched by the spell and crashed into the ground.
“A-a Thunder Dragon… defeated so easily,” Simon muttered, dumbfounded.
“Incidentally, those artificial limbs are apparently lightning-resistant, so you won’t be more susceptible to lightning than those with ordinary flesh limbs,” Kimberley told him.
“I-I see. Thank you for the kind explanation,” Simon stammered.
Even though he had noticed that Kimberley was a Ghost, it was possible that his mind had gone blank with shock.
“… I’ve already been told the truth, but this is amazing,” Natania murmured, also shocked by the glimpse of Vandalieu’s power that she had just witnessed.
Unlike Simon, she knew of Vandalieu’s situation and objectives, but it was her first time seeing him actually wield his power outside of training.
“Now then, Simon. Regarding the explanation of the truth, this isn’t the time for that, so it can wait until later, am I correct?” said Vandalieu.
“Huh? Yes, well…” Simon muttered with a nod, unable to think clearly because his mind was still in a daze.
“Thanks, Simon. That is very helpful, as this is indeed not the time,” said Vandalieu, pointing at the Devil’s Nest forest that was closest to the city.
From that forest emerged more Thunder Dragons, Mountain Giants as well as heavily-armed Ogres, Trolls and Minotaurs.
All of them were letting out frenzied howls and traveling quickly towards their target.
“Dragons, Giants, Ogres, Trolls and Minotaurs?! There’s no way that there are such monsters in that Devil’s Nest! So why?!” Simon exclaimed.
“A monster rampage from a Dungeon?! B-but the only Dungeons in that Devil’s Nest are C-class and D-class; there shouldn’t be any Rank 8 monsters in there!” said Natania.
Simon let out a short scream as he realized that most of the monsters were heading towards the city of Morksi.
There were multiple Devil’s Nests and Dungeons around the city of Morksi. But all of the Dungeons were C-class or below. Thus, there were only a handful of B-class adventurers in the city… and even they were weaker individuals among B-class adventurers.
In other words, with the adventurers currently in the city, there were not enough fighting forces to battle against this horde of monsters.
“At this rate, the city is doomed! Master, how many more times can you use that incredible lightning spell you just used?!” Simon asked.
“‘Black Lightning?’ I can use it almost limitlessly,” Vandalieu replied.
“I see. I guess you can’t use such an incredible spell so many… wait, WHAT?!”
“But I likely have to fight against a different enemy, so I will remain here with Kimberley and the others. Simon and Natania, you should go back. Join my mother and the others to protect the city. Let’s call that your graduation exam.”
“N-no way, Master! Even if you stay here with just this guy… More Ghosts?!”
“Boss, shouldn’t you have explained the situation earlier?” said Kimberley.
He gave a look of pity towards Simon, whose eyes were wide open with an expression of shock frozen upon his face.
“It’s not that I didn’t trust you, but I couldn’t really find a good timing to approach the topic. I’ll apologize after the exam,” Vandalieu said to Simon. “Leaving that aside, I’ll leave the city to you.”
“No, wait, Master…” Simon stammered.
“Alright!” said Natania, cutting Simon short. “I’m sure Darcia-san would be able to handle things on her own even without us, but we’ll give it a shot!”
Simon fell silent.
Fang growled as if to say ‘Shut up and come with us!’ He grabbed Simon’s sleeve with his teeth and threw him into the cart.
Simon gave a fearful scream. “M-Master?!”
The rat sisters took off, dragging Simon and the cart towards the city.
“Master, you do your best too!” said Natania as she leapt onto Fang’s back and rode off after Simon and the others.
“Make sure you transform when you fight,” Vandalieu said to her as she left. “Now then, I suppose I should crush a few of the larger ones. Since they’re on a rampage, intimidating them with bloodthirst and my Demon Eyes won’t be very effective, and carelessly stimulating their monstrous instincts might make them even more hostile to humans. I guess I’ll defeat them normally.”
He created a cannon barrel with the Demon King’s blood and looked at the Giants approaching the city with rumbling footsteps and the Dragons flying through the sky.
“You should help as well,” said Vandalieu.
Responding to his command, the Thunder Dragon Zombie next to him got onto its feet.
Hajime Fitun watched the monsters heading towards the city of Morksi and let out what could only be described as the laughter of a madman. “You fools, this is the signal! The clouds of dust kicked up by the monsters and the dying screams of the people caught in their path will act as the signal! Your Undead insects and your surveillance network of spirits are meaningless now!”
These monsters, which included the likes of Thunder Dragons, were not monsters that inhabited the Devil’s Nests and Dungeons around the city of Morksi. They had all spawned inside Fitun’s Dungeon.
Fitun, the ruler of the Labyrinth of Trials, had made one of his heroic spirit subordinates connect its entrance to this place with space-attribute magic in order to cause a monster rampage.
As a result, that subordinate’s physical body had been rendered unusable, sending him back to Fitun’s Divine Realm, but it had been a necessary cost to pay.
Of course, he didn’t expect monsters of Rank 8 or so to be of any use against Vandalieu.
But he had read that Vandalieu would scatter his fighting forces around in order to protect the city and the adventurers who had been hunting nearby.
“It took a lot of effort to exclude Undead and insect monsters from the rampage, but… Tch, he’s already gone and turned one of the corpses into a Zombie. And the Dragons’ movements are slow. Has he acquired Tiamat’s divine protection? Even so, they should be effective to some extent,” Hajime Fitun muttered to himself.
“Well then, Commander. We’re supposed to defeat the Demon King once he rises up to protect the city?” said Gordon Bobby.
“What, you have a problem with that?” asked Hajime Fitun.
“Of course I do!” spat Gordon Bobby, glaring at Hajime Fitun who had enacted such an inhuman plan. “You told us that the Demon King’s confidants are considerably powerful as well, didn’t you! How could you have them fight against monsters? If that was your plan, I’d have gladly played the role of attacking the city!”
“That’s right. It would have been a pleasure to experience those in the battlefield that is the city,” said another heroic spirit.
It seemed that the heroic spirits’ complaints were not to do with the inhumanity of Hajime Fitun’s methods. None of them were truly criticizing him.
It was likely that the heroic spirits stationed in other locations thought the same way.
This was the expected reaction for Fitun, who had chosen heroes of battle fields and battle-crazed fanatics who wouldn’t complain about such tactics as his heroic spirits.
Hajime Fitun let out an evil laugh. “We are going to fight against the Demon King, so give up on the hope of enjoying other things. We’re moving out. Be careful not to catch up to the monsters. I have set them on a rampage, but I am not in control of them. And don’t let your guard down – There’s no telling if Murakami’s group will interfere in some way!”
And as he and his subordinates emerged from the forest, they were greeted by the sight of the corpses of Mountain Giants and Dragons moving about, and the living monsters being trampled into the ground.
They also saw a white boy standing among the Undead, releasing black lightning and flames, creating even more corpses.
“We’ve found you… We are entering combat! We will slay the Demon King!” Hajime Fitun declared to his followers.
Naturally, Vandalieu was aware of their presence.
Because of the monster rampage, many of his Undead insects had been crushed, and the spirits were in chaos as well.
But he had noticed the monster rampage himself, and he had guessed that the unnatural appearance of a horde of monsters at a time like this would certainly have something to do with himself.
“Couldn’t you have a picked a better way to go about things, ‘heroes?’” Vandalieu said.
He spread his arms out, and his shadow expanded. Several silhouettes appeared, as if emerging from the shadow to greet Hajime Fitun and his followers.

The title makes me think something along these lines are Van’s inner thoughts: “I understand role-reversal & all, but there should be a limit to it, shouldn’t there?”
Winter
I hope that people realize that this attack is orchestrated by “heroes” from Alda’s faction, so they lose some influence.
Even though this attack is not condoned by Alda, Fitun isn’t wrong when he said that if they actually defeat Van it doesn’t matter how many other humans or even their own believers die. Alda’s idiots would take it as something along the lines of “for the greater good”.

Now can a normal person consider this bunch of evil hooligans as a righteous gods and consider Vandalieu who’s defending them as the evil demon king?!😒😒🤔🤔. You don’t need someone else to sully your reputation, Alda’s faction gods, you’re doing a great job yourself 😒💩💩💩Saiteiiii. What’s the difference between orc ogre and troll?
Vitor
orcs (for japanesse people) are gigantic pigmen rapists, ogres are tall humanoids with horns, and trolls are big humanoids, depending the history they will have green, gray, brown skin, but they are always ugly
Ereshkigal
I remembered something about the divine protection given to only those who followed the teaching of any particular god. But how come Alda’s Faction can’t pick a heroic god/spirit or some sht (what you call Fitun) that is worthy of such title? I know they’re in need of strong individuals but for fcksake, choose a strong fck that is not a scumbag and use disgusting tactics like this! Is Ninewh0re teachings also says they can use civilians as bait/sacrifice/hostages? They can’t even pick right heroic gods. I wonder if the gods who
can actually use their brains are all on Vida’s side…
Chiu ChunLing
Bingo. The gods who chose Alda and Bellwood 100 millennia ago are…what you’d expect.
Those that Alda has been raising to godhood since are…chosen by Alda. Mostly based on their willingness to practice or at least endorse the slaughter of innocent women and children for nonsensical reasons. Those who objected to that mostly went along Schneider’s path instead.

SuicidalSkeletin
This battle is almost guaranteed to be a victory for Vandalieu. Of course the reason for that is that Fitun absorbed Hajime, putting his total Intelligence statistics to barely above 0.

I can’t see this going well for Fitun, conjuring a hurriedly made mortal vessel to battle against a godslayer is challenging the ceiling of stupidity, and we already have Rodcorte for that. You fool, Van cannot be defeated by improvisations
UndyingReader
I still can’t understand how those 3 reincarneted fools plan to kill a demigod/demonking of which even one of his subbordinates is enough to kill them.
Jonathan Hurd
My bet is on an explosive. They use Odins ability to see into the future to see if mixing certain chemicals would explode. They use Murakamis skill to delay the explosion. Use Gungnirs ability which was probably given to Murakami to penetrate any armor or barriers Van has. Finally have Death Scythes skill for holding Van in place. I’d say for good measure you mix some holy water into the explosive. That way it could also hurt/cleanse Vans soul as he comes out.
Not sure where Syphilid comes in for this strategy other than scouting, but that’s the best plan I came up with using the abilities they have and their resources. Now even if they do completely follow this plan I don’t think it would probably work. I mean Van could potentially use disinfect to destroy the bombs reagents. There’s also no assurances they could make a strong enough bomb in the first place.
Tejing
Based on Van’s own previous experimentation with gunpowder, chemical explosives are totally useless against beings at the level of Van and his main subordinates. They just don’t have enough power.
Chiu ChunLing
Keeping in mind that if anyone had an accurate understanding of Van’s power level, they wouldn’t be fighting him.
Chiu ChunLing
It’s even easier than that, since the basic recipes for most chemical explosives should be almost the same, the main thing that would change would be the stability/combustion speed of the resulting mix. It was asserted that a shoulder-fired missile like an RPG or MANPAD should still work fine, just with some variation in power. And Murakami’s group should be quite familiar with the theory and practice of making explosives from base ingredients.
The main problem is that a few kilos of explosive warhead aren’t going to do much to Van, they need a HUGE bomb with a large launcher, which means much greater issues with any variation in stability/performance. And if it’s based on chemical explosives the performance will be categorically inferior to using magic to detonate DK materials. They can probably cover some of that by using magic in their bomb, but it would still have to be a really big bomb.
Trying to sneak such a big bomb into the city, or lob it over the wall, would almost ensure getting caught by Van’s defensive arrangements and getting shot down. So they should make use of the opportunity presented by Van being outside the city and distracted by Fitun. And they can’t rely on the bomb to finish him off unless it’s a nuke, which they don’t have the technical expertise to even attempt. They have to be ready to finish him in CQB.

I feel like the big threat and conflict should come from the ones yet to be reincarnated or at least I hope. It my eyes it would make or sense since that is what has always driven the story in one form or another.

Really i love this series
BUT COME ON THE HAREM HAS ALREADY MORE THAN 20 FUCKIN GIRLS
AND ABOVE THIS ALL THE MC TREAT ALL THE OTHER CHARACTER THAT AREN’T SEXY WOMAN LIKE SHIT.
when was the last time you guys saw vigaro or the trio he met at the cultivation villages ?
Tejing
Not getting a lot of screen time is a far cry from “treating them like shit”. Van doesn’t treat anyone poorly other than true enemies. Also, the “harem” is more of a nod to the trope than anything else, so I think it’s fine.
ObserverBias
Man, other characters have stuff to do besides lounge in Vandalieu’s background, you know? Borkus and Vigaro, for one, are about as close to the top of their game as they can be outside of this particular situation (where a physical manifestation of a god is involved), and the cultivation trio probably “isn’t,” even if they’re head and shoulders above the general human population outside of Talosheim.
But, fyi, the “last time they were seen” would be in the chapter where they test out Van’s Demonfall skill, iirc under 20 chapters ago.
no1
more like the author does not see any reason to introduce them into the recent chapters, maybe soon
UndyingReader
For the trio the last time he mentioned them was when they tried to use the familiar spirit. For vigaro if i’m not wrong he should have been in the dark continent all this time qith Borkus and i think they will come back with a new race title or some new superior skill.
Chiu ChunLing
When’s the last time anyone heard anything of the dozen former adventurers who became Ghouls and were pretty much designated as “Van’s war spoils” other than Kachia? Or the Fire-Attribute Ghosts other than Levia? Or the Water-Attribute Ghosts other than Orbia? It hasn’t even been clarified whether Van ever made any Wind-Attribute Ghosts other than Kimberly. At least the former vampire Light-Attribute Ghosts get individual mentions. But any bets on when any of the half-Minotaur Magical Princess Knight girls other than Julianna are going to get names?
Vigaro ect. are all apparently busy dealing with their own harems. But at least they’ll probably show up and still have individual names at some point.

In the same way that Van would lose a fight to Alda if he wandered into his divine realm. I think Fitun believes he has a shot. They’ve seen a lot of his abilities in the past and developed countermeasures for them, and he’s trying to do something similar to what Darcia has with the high compatibility vessel to use his full power.
There’s also the nerve control thing, which I don’t expect to work since Isis had a workaround. Maybe he improved on it with his lightning magic somehow and he wants to take hostages?
Jonathan Hurd
I get the feeling Fitun isn’t really one for planning. I mean he didn’t even get the free info Alda collected from Birknyes incident. He seems the type to just say “it’ll work out somehow or I’ll be dead! Either way at least I won’t be bored anymore.”
A problem with trying to use Marionette against Van is that a majority of his forces are undead. Isis’ work around was she was actually brain dead so her brain and nerves weren’t doing anything. I believe most of the Undead troops are in a similar position. Then Legion is just flesh with no nerves and finally ghosts don’t even have a physical body to control. Van himself has the DK nerves and Soul Form so good luck controlling him.
In the end I don’t think Fitun is going to rely on the Marionette skill to fight. He wanted it more for set up. From the fact that he brought in all his old war buddies. I feel he’s going to rely on their old tried and true fighting techniques.
ObserverBias
Technically speaking, plotting out definitively that he’ll either “win” or “die” is a plan on its own, refusing to account for anything in between. That said, his own power’s synergy with Marionette somewhat allows him a unique (?) ability to put Van’s manipulation of souls on the backfoot; undead take time to get powerful, which the hard majority of Vandalieu’s allies got and recently-created Undead are unlikely to get. Furthermore, there’s a slight enough similarity between how Van targets Heroic Spirit Descent skills and how Fitun sniped at spirits in the distance before, that I imagine Van might hesitate continuing to use his Dead Spirit Magic near him (granted, he has so many other options, but he may have tied a single twisty arm behind Van’s back).
Valeth
I think the Dead Spirit Magic will still be okay against Fitun. Remember the DK Fragments like the Horns can hurt spirits, and tear through magic barriers. However, when Van supplies them with “His” mana they are able to fight against and Deflect/Destroy such attacks.
Like when Levia and the other Fire Spirits blocked the Horns from Ternecia. He will of course have to be careful in this fight. Also Van already knows about this, so he will be on the lookout to protect his allies.
Lord Rin
I think that lightning purification Fitun did before only works on weak spirits. Van’s spirits he uses with Dead Spirit Magic are all Rank 10+ so I don’t think he needs to worry about them being purified.
Ltshrek
Are they seriously gods?
Lord Rin
I mean you could ask the same thing about Rodcorte and Alda so…
Jonathan Hurd
I think it’s wise to think of God’s in Lambda more like the Greek and Norse Gods rather than as Christianity’s. God’s are basically just really powerful humans with their own desires and ideas. The one who distorted this was Alda and Bellwood who are trying really hard to position themselves as the ultimate good versus the ultimate evil.
Irazori
So begins another chapter in “The massacre of the aldiots” logbook.
What does Tiamat’s divine protection have anything to do with Van making a dragon zombie? He can just make one regardless whenever he needed to. Unless it’s supposed to help reduce the usual stat and level decrease whenever something becomes undead?
VEreality
I belive it allows Van to make them into undeads faster.
Yuri Dhjeeyn
“And the Dragons’ movements are slow. Has he acquired Tiamat’s divine protection?”
I think this is about the living, attacking dragons.
They are weakened because they are attacking someone with Tiamats blessing/someone favored by Tiamat.
Tejing
Yes, though of course it’s presumably the ‘Elder Dragon Emperor’ title causing that, not a divine protection.
Jonathan Hurd
No way for Fitun to know Van is to powerful to receive her Divine Protection, lol.
ObserverBias
Except he did receive her divine protection? He picked up a few new ones every other trip to the Bahn Gaia continent.
Lord Rin
He didn’t. Tiamat tried to give him her divine protection but it failed. They said that it got swallowed up by Van’s death-attribute magic when she tried so she could only end up giving him the Elder Dragon Emperor title.
lazygeko
It has been really hard to come to terms with Fitun, so I went back and read chapters with him in them. Judging by comments, others are baffled too.
He is either a fight junkie that severely underestimated his opponent. And is delusional, thinking he has a chance.
A suicidal fool, who chose and interesting way to kill himself.
Or a thrill seeker with little brain. I like this one. He likes the thrill of fights to the death and thinks he won’t lose because thats how it has been for him(when he was alive). He is like a skydiver who suddenly felt that jumping without a chute is possible.
Reguardless, I hope the fight is short because all indications show him and his forces lacking to take down Van. Even though he is a god of war, his domain was divided in two because he couldn’t handle the whole domain of clouds. And Van is just so strong now. And almost all his followers are ranks that can, historically, fight with gods. Then Murakami’s group will probably jump in to kill Van as well.I am really looking forward to the next chapters, almost as much as I am looking forward to more Meh-kun chapters.
Absolute Zer0
Seriously annoyed about reincarnaters tho’. They are just kids that were playing half-assed Hero and Villain and they think they can do that too in the world that has ‘geniune’ heroes. Just can’t take their half-assed attitude even though they have skills that can potentally become ‘broken’ skills. Like, that is processed ‘Divinity’ of God right? I think using that ‘Divinity’ they can become god if they train like mad-man in Lambda. Look at Skeleton Man, he is almost at demi-god level at this point with his sheer effort. And he was originally spirit of rat, goddamit. I just can’t stomach those simps.
Your norm Purple Tea addict
Umm they’re no longer kids
They’re 30+ now in Origin + their age in earth
=)
Ltshrek
That’s the point, they already got reincarnated 2 times yet their wisdom is non existent
gomezseba37
They have knoledwe wich is not equal to intelligence. and their morals are twisted because they played hero in origin all their lives
Renrobt
TL;DR: They know no better, cause they don’t have solid info and they only see their superiority when compared to all other inhabitants of Lambda they can meet.
Hey they know no better. The got chosen by a god, the only ‘God’ they know off and other than the explanation that they will be given special powers and fortune they were given no other information.
On Origin they got a good taste of their power and how much above they were compared to the people. Heck they are just as much or even more above the regular people on Lambda. Just with their skills they gained in Origin they already comparable to solid B class if not a low A class adventurers. The S-class Heroes are not around to be able to compare themselves to and the heroes of myth and legend don’t really interest them
And it is not a good idea to compare anyone around Van to what the reincarnated people will see. After the incident with Death Scythe they mostly gave up on spying so the best reference they have is “high level” monsters. But when you ask even an A rank what is a high rank monster, its something that is rank 10 or so. Already on the level of a natural disaster in the shape of a monster. And Van has many allies higher ranked than that.
Heck Van practically eliminated all other possible references that they could target. Like the Purebred Vampires. The reincarnated people have no idea how strong such high ranking enemies are simply because on Origin the worst threat was still human and on Lambda all the major threats have been eliminated.
Van’s forces on the other hand due to many circumstances, his death attribute boosting, guidance, divine protections from him and other gods, etc, etc, Accelerated the growth of his subordinates to insane degree, and also due to all the buffs they get from their self-enhancements and guidances, most monsters are actually comparable to monster a rank above wild. And lets not forget that basically of Van’s monsters are rather intelligent as well. While intelligence is boosted for many of the monsters in the wild as well, that still won’t stop them from rampaging and make them cooperate with each other. on the other hand these monsters are already united.
Of course they will act as Heroes, at least the ones that aren’t Like Murakami and co. as they are convinced that Van is the villain. He toys with the souls and the body of the dead, and he is a sad person who considers the dead his family. From the outside he is someone that has to be stopped, Especially with their “modern” sensibilities that the reincarnated group has had for the past 2 lives.
Jonathan Hurd
Honestly I think the biggest difference between Van and his enemies is the sense of urgency and fear. Van knows he has tons of foes since he was born. The list has just kept increasing and so he has never stopped trying to improve himself.
Compared to that you have the Pure breed Vampires who have spent the last 10k years lazing around doing nothing. Alda and Co who haven’t bothered to try and change or improve anything. Reincarnators like Gungnir who thought he was omnipotent just because of one Unique skill. Even the best of them Heinz has been walking a carefully tailored path with little to no real threat.
Heinz in particular is surrounded by supportive citizens and hailed by all as a hero. He didn’t even really have a looming threat until Van possessed a spirit body and whooped him in a dungeon tailor made so he could die over and over consequences free.
Comparing these people to Van and his journey is honestly laughable. Van has never stopped fighting true life and death battles. Desperately overcoming and learning from them. The biggest difference to me about Fitun and Van is Fitun talks about life and death battles while Vans lived them. To Fitun this is all just a game to kill boredom. For Van this battle could mean losing everyone he holds dear.
The difference can greatly be seen in their attitude towards the upcoming fight. Van has meticulously planned, scouted, and tried to put his subordinates in the best possible position for the fight. He has updated even his weakest and newest subordinates gear to help increase their chances to survive and abilities.
Fitun gave up free info gathering from Alda, didn’t accept other God’s completely willing to help, refused to try and join forces with Murakamis group who has the same goal since it would ‘spoil the fun’, and gave his subordinates half assed bodies to descend on. I feel like if it’s truly a battle to survive you should take everything you can not treat it like a game.
ObserverBias
The “reincarnators” as a whole don’t subscribe to that mindset, though; everything was moved according to the whims of the “Super Speed Learning” bastard, from the beginning, though him having Amemiya dance like a puppet on strings and group everyone else up in one convenient organization does make it look otherwise.
OppressedGamer51
Please refer to them as their real name, “Banda chapters”. They are names this because Banda is the best character and deserves his name on things.

I call them Buddy Cop chapters since I think without the combo of both Banda and Meh Kun they would certainly lack something. I mean without Meh Kun there how else would we be able to read the Eldritch Horror Banda say “Onichan is not poop.” Give me both or none at all I say!

And so it begins. The beginning of the end of these idiots.
Seriously though, all that planning and scheming and all they could come up with was a simple diversion of a few of Van’s forces? He even came to them instead of the opposite, but these battle junkies didn’t even question that. I’d like a refund on my concern a chapter ago. Also, I’m pretty sure that Fitun is almost entirely in control of Hajime at this point. His subordinates probably wouldn’t listen to him as much if he wasn’t.
Still don’t know where the other otherworlders are but they’ll probably just try to pull a sneak attack on Van or his subordinates in the middle of their fight with others. Maybe I’m underestimating them, but I get the feeling that Darcia could probably handle them with, maybe, a little help from others.
Also, this chapter came out quick!

Yes Fitun took over Hajime completely long ago.
Triduo
The diversion could have been a good idea… If its purpose wasn’t just to disperse Van’s forces and attract Van to Fitun’s group… He should have ordered his army to blend with the monsters and attack Van’s allies, like this, Fitun could have weakened Van’s companions, forced Van to uses most of his Powers to go to his companions and forced Van to reveal his Demon King’s nature in front of the city’s Adventurers, tagging Van as a bad guy and Fitun’s group as fallen heroes…
Paradoxe : You’re trying too hard to make his strategy useful. -__-
Dragolstice : Van’s mother can easily be classified as a S-Ranked entity. If Murakami’s group’s level is at at least A-Rank, all they could do is escape from her ! I mean… Darcia is Vida’s incarnation, she has a body made to last forever and her combat abilities are way higher than any normal adventurer… She’ll probably needs back up if she can’t counter the Reincarnators’ abilities but I can’t see them enduring even a short fight against her…
Haraken
The thing is that Fitun objective is less about defeating Vandalieu, than being able to do so in what he view as a glorious battle. If he knew that fighting Van directly was a pointless endeavor, I doubt he would even be there as he couldn’t care less about winning through deception.
Absolute Zer0
What he want is battle that he bet his life on. Not victory, not glory much less ‘rightous’ that Alda speak of. What he want is that excitment of crossing line of life and death during battle.
Haraken
That is what I meant by what he views as glorious battle. But for him victory is also part of the bargain. He do believe Vandalieu is defeatable and he believe he himself can defeat the odds against Van. He wants a battle he has the risk of losing, but he also want a battle he can win. Which I don’t think he will be enjoying himself at all by the end.

Not unless they go through pseudo-reincarnation. Then again, Van does have the mutation skill.
Absolute Zer0
I’m somewhat doubtful about mutating to the point being humanoid though. Since major physiological change normally doesn’t occur during mutation in Lambda. Number of hand and legs etc maybe frequent but monster that mutated to humaniod form never introduced in this novel. When they reach demi-god level it might be possible in my opinion. Speaking of demi-god level, does anyone think it is possible to become Beast-king throught evolution? Or is only Beast Emperor God’s children that is named Beast-king?

Eisen became humanoid. Though I guess you could argue that the Ent form was close to humanoid in the first place.

So at least one (unnamed) heroic spirit is now back in Fitun’s Divine Realm. We gonna get a look at what happens to heroic spirits when “something unfortunate” happens to their god on another plane? (Wait didn’t something similar happen with Curatos, or were those subordinate gods?)
Irazori
The one that was sent back was a subordinate god. Curators was also a subordinate that just managed aldiot’s dungeon. But if fitun’s subordinate is in the divine realm of fitun, then it could be possible that gods in that realm would either get destroyed or just get booted out when their chief god dies.
Lord Rin
Since all of Fitun’s subordinates are battle junkies like him I won’t be surprised if this subordinate god tries to physically descend to Lambda to join the fight even if he expends most of his power to do so.
gomezseba37
alda would stop them probably

ok so fitun and the guys are all weaker than they were before, right? maybe this is another case of underestimating van and co. but gotdamn they’re going to get their asses beat and i’m so hype for it
ObserverBias
I mean… it’s not really underestimating, as they’re well-aware they’re up against a being (and his forces) that has taken the title “Demon King,” and they’re also well-aware that they aren’t at their peak. The point they keep driving home is to win OR die. These are fight junkies in the gravitational pull of their fight junkie god who has been repressed for several thousand years.
They’re as hype as you are to get their own asses beat and (ideally, for them) to beat ass in turn.
CCaprice
Someone’s going to be surprised by their ass-whooping. Thanks for the chapter.
Lord Rin
I’m pleasantly surprised that there’s a new chapter so soon.
So looks like Van introducing Gobu-gobu has really stimulated Morksi’s economy. With its introduction, meat sellers are commissioning the Adventurer Guild to hunt goblins which will move money around and now what once was a job that nobody wanted to do because it paid practically nothing and there were no usable parts from goblins to really justify taking such quests as adventurers is now a highly popular job. Now the goblins’ corpses have value other than their ears and since rookie adventurers can hunt goblins relatively easily and safely then they can gain real world battle experience at little risk which will translate into more experienced adventurers that can then take on tougher quests with a greater likelihood of surviving to become veterans which will then be in need of more expensive equipment and will buy it which will stimulate the economy more.
Well it certainly took Simon a long time to realize the mysterious divine protection he got is Van’s. I think today is gonna be a day of shocks one after another to Simon. He just got a new arm and learned that it can transform and immediately afterwards he sees a monster stampede full of monsters whose ranks he’s probably never seen before. Then after that he sees how easily Van deals with monsters that to him are apocalypses on legs and that the attack he used is something he can spam infinitely more or less despite its power. Also I’m sure he’s gonna be shocked how powerful Darcia is and all the other allies of Van.
Well if I’m honest, I think Fitun could have had a good chance at beating Van if he wasn’t impatient. His subordinates are probably around B-rank since the dungeon they were training in was B-rank. Since his subordinate gods are possessing the bodies they might be equal to A-rank. If he kept training them a bit more then the bodies might have equaled A-rank which would allow the subordinate gods to use more of their power which could have pushed them to either high A-rank or even S-rank. Unfortunately he is impatient and battle-hungry so he wouldn’t want to wait any longer to strengthen his forces and give himself a better fighting chance. He wants a risky and exciting battle instead of a safe and assured victory.
Meanwhile during all this, I’m sure Murakami’s group will try to ambush Van. They want off this world as quickly as possible though they don’t really have a plan. I mean, they’ve got not a lot of information on Van since the Sylphid got scared that Van would detect her spying on him so they’ve more or less have stopped gathering information and what they have gathered from Rodcorte they seem to be disregarding like how this world isn’t like Origin so you normally can’t kill people in one hit unless you are either much stronger than them or have a high skill level/awakened skill to get through not only their defense stat but also their vitality stat. So far it seems that they just think they can kill Van easily if it’s an ambush as if this were Origin and Van wasn’t somebody who could go toe-to-toe with an Evil God and kill him without causing any damage to the city. We haven’t even heard them discuss any possible plan. Just “Kill Van”. They haven’t even been training their skills since they arrived in the Alcrem Duchy for fear that the spirits of the monsters would alert Van to their presence which is moot since he already knows that they’re here.
Overall I predict that Fitun’s group probably won’t be too much trouble for Van’s allies with the possible exception of Fitun himself since he’s been training his host body a lot longer than his subordinates. Murakami’s group on the other hand? Probably wouldn’t even last a couple of paragraphs before dying.
On a completely unrelated note I laughed when I saw that the rat sisters have the singing and dancing skills and Fang has the dancing skill. Does Kanako want even animals to be Magical Girls?
Haraken
For my part, I really hope that Fitun will drop the ball, by leaving stuff incriminating Alda’s faction as the perpetrator. I really want to see the aftermath for the city trying to come with being cast aside like trash by followers of Alda’s faction.
wai311040
I guess more grinding from Fitun group won’t really close the gap since Van group can also leveling while waiting. The only thing I think that Fitun can benefit from more leveling is that they can do more damage to the city so Van group will have to spend more effort defending, but that’s it.
Lord Rin
Well by level grinding more, the host bodies will get stronger and be able to withstand more of the subordinate gods’ powers being unleashed. Yeah Van will be getting stronger during that time but that’s a foregone conclusion that any opponent of Van is going to have to be forced to accept. It’s really just a matter of what would give the opponent a better chance of beating Van: ending their grinding now when they are probably equal to a group of A-ranks or keep going until they become equal to a group of S-ranks. Obviously a large group of S-ranks would have a better chance of beating Van instead of a group of A-ranks but Fitun was too impatient and his personality makes it so that he would prefer fighting a riskier battle.

Steel Rat?!
Did Harry Harrison get reincarnated into this book too? That would be really cool since I loved that series, but I’m not sure they would mesh well.
xtremeloldude
i’m a bit confused how a group of basically B ranks + one decently strong god is planning on defeating Vandalieu. At this point i’m sure he could leave it to like 2-3 subordinates to do this
thanks for the chapter
TheDerangedOne
Shortversion: They’re not.
Long version: They’re not. They just made the classic blunder of underestimating your enemy and not going for absolute wasteland crater creating overkill when it comes to killing someone who defies common sense.
…. Gotta be honest I’m pretty sure the only way to kill Van now is to atomize everything around him for several hundred miles. I.E. Super Nuke him from orbit…. But I don’t think there’s any fire gods left on Alda’s side to prevent the atmosphere from catching on fire and all that… well even then I sorta doubt that would work, more likely it’d do little more than make Van go Berserk since his friends, family and subordiantes would be caught up in that blast.
Renrobt
Considering that Van can probably just Animate himself as a ghost or something, it is near impossible to defeat him unless one can also seal him away or at least deplete his mana to the point he can’t reanimate.
Renrobt
Yeah I agree, but let’s not forget that at least Hajime/Fitun is a God, and thanks to how compatible Marionette is with his attribute it could be possible that anything with a nervous system would be just taken over or at least incapacitated around him. Van can probably work around that, he pretty much did the same as the Undead after all, or just directly fight with his soul again.
Plus all the heroic spirits and even Fitun only care for is this fight. They have their skills and experience from when they were still mortal just in a weaker body, that likely won’t be able to handle them using their high level skills for long, but as I said they only care for this fight nothing beyond that, I think they will actually be far more formidable than just B ranks.
In short: Yeah I don’t think they are a threat to Van, but their power is actually rather formidable. Plus as Fitun pointed out: Murakami’s group could be lurking around as well.
Vastorn
I think Fitun and his subordinates weren’t actually grinding for level in that B-rank dungeon, since they’re a God and Heroic spirits incarnate, they’re probably maintaining all the skills they had in life and fighting in that dungeon was only for the sake of fun, as they had actual fights while growing accustomed to their weaker bodies, but as Fitun mentioned, they can probably fight as finely as they did in life… it’s only that they’re new bodies are gonna die afterwards. So they’re at the very least A ranks and stronger once they start fighting “seriously” (without a care on their vessels).
Also Fitun is highly skilled with the Marionette ability, which could potentially mess with Van’s body (but he still has his spirit form and grotesque mind)
Lord Rin
They’re leveling up their host bodies so that the bodies can withstand their power and can unleash more of their strength as gods. If their bodies were still just D- and C-rank then they probably wouldn’t even last more than a few minutes if they unleashed all their power and they’d end up booted back to Fitun’s Divine Realm.
bk3k
They mentioned this already. They CAN use their real power, but those bodies will not last at all if they do so. So you see they where really training up those bodies to be able to handle their power for a longer time. But the gods/heroic spirits (if there is really a difference besides rank) won’t die merely because the body they’re possessing dies. They’re here for battle and likely consider the bodies disposable goods.

…this is the second time I have been blueballed so hard. In my life.
I mean, since the first time I saw this meme ” https://www.reddit.com/r/DeathMage/comments/dkp0y1/i_use_memeatic_and_im_proud_of_it/ ” I have been waiting for this to go down. Now. The waiting game is the only thing that is still on *cry in the corner*
Kazza
Hopefully I don’t regret this, but what’s the first? The Heinz fight cliffhanger?
VEreality
Yeah. Sure. Let’s go with that. *looking away from you*
Sinfulmass
Ok I’m calling it now, Van wins easy even with interference. Then acts all nonchalant about it. Probably even gets so new subordinates out of it.
kazamakj
So by introducing new food Van has inadvertently stimulated the economy of Morksi? Residents in the slums getting work opportunities because the value of goblins meat has increased. This upcoming battle has me hyped, I want to know how a warrior god matches up against demi god Van.
Also why is Fang a lower level than the rat sisters?
Jonathan Hurd
Another important part is Gobugobu gives work to newbie adventurers. Killing Goblins might not be hard, but it is still battle experience and relatively safe work at that. It means newbies can make a living without having to take massive risks. The more young adventurers that can be raised safely eventually leads to more veteran adventurers.
I also can’t wait for the fight to begin, but I feel like looking at Fituns tactics this is probably going to be pretty one sided.
bk3k
Gobugobu also means relatively cheap food for poor people too. And overall, there is more edible food during the leanest times (such as winter). So you can expect the populace to be better fed overall, and fewer starvation deaths. Which is good, because those thunder dragons don’t want to eat a bunch of overly skinny townsfolk.
Death God
Fang is lower level because the rat sisters were born from undead, basically giving them more experience points and skills. And also they were mutated by his “Mutation Induction” unique skill. Thus giving them more such as receiving Vandelieu’s divine protection early as well as having
the “Self Enhancement: Creator” skill. While Fang was mutated later than them, and thus is why his divine protection is not yet complete.
Tejing
Remember ‘level’ is really just ‘% progress to next rank/job’ (rank in this case), and they’re the same rank. Just a bit of randomness in how much exp they’ve gotten along the way is enough to get a level difference like that.
Entropy
i suspect the rats caught up to Fang due to them requiring less experience. A dog killing a goblin is impressive, but a rat doing the same is much more. Plus I suspect some ranks require certain factors to trigger in the same way as jobs. I remember an adventurer turned ghoul that complained to Vand about being stuck at a certain wall. So I imagine Fang hit a wall as well. Another factor could be that Fang had to stick around guarding food cart whereas the rats were probably not encouraged to stick around. Kind of find it funny that goblins might have to start fleeing from humans because they are being eaten. Leave it to Vand to turn predators into prey.
gomezseba37
van has so much titles such as emperor an the such that him making decisions benefit the people below him without him noticing
Chiu ChunLing
I wouldn’t say that the economic stimulus was inadvertent, it just wasn’t part of the original plan. But Van clearly realized that improving the cost/nutrition ratio of the food carts would lead to a general economic advantage. He’s had enough experience, with both living on the edge of starvation himself and managing transition from subsistence level as a leader/ruler, to have a firm appreciation of how increasing the availability of adequate nutrition at a low cost bolsters the potential of people to have and then generate surplus wealth.
He just had no special motive or opportunity to do so until his food cart’s cost/nutrition ratio was putting the other food carts in a pinch.
Bookwyrm
The rats can dance and sing. Next thing you know they will be becoming magical girls.
kazamakj
The mascots or animal familiars for the magical girls.
Jonathan Hurd
At this point they might end up as both mascots and magical girls, lol. The city of Talosheim where you can be a magical girl no matter your race, gender, or limb number!
Chadd
It begins.
You just know these gods are going to face a horrible death. Really now Alda, you turned these scum into gods?
Darkhelios
During this time, Alda’s faction: “Uhhhm… Are we sure that we’re not the baddies…?”
no1
YES, a chapter with action and so soon. A lot to talk about, well that clenches it, if Hajime Fitun was laughing at the carnage he unleashed unto a city of people, then he truly is an evil god. Finally Van faces one of his many enemies, as much as I like chapters like these, why did it have to end on a cliff hanger. I hope the next chapter comes out soon, I want to read about Hajime Fitun and Van’s battle, even though I can probably guess the outcome, hopefully it comes soon. Thank you so much Yoshi, a chapter like this is just what I needed after taking an exam today
LethalDose
It’s funny how the alda faction sealed all some of the “evil gods” that held help defeat the DK but made this maniac a God that just shows how bad of a judge of character alda is and how black and white his mind set is (Things that originated from lamda good, anything related to DK bad. If you disagree then you’ve gone mad)
bk3k
“Evil Gods” doesn’t even refer to any specific behavior and never did. That merely refers to the gods that came from the other world as invaders. Although many of them do indeed act in evil ways. To Alda who wants to revert the world to what it was, everything not of the original world – be it invaders or native born species that didn’t exist before – are evil contaminants that must be removed without considering a single other thing. So to remove those “contaminants” is to do good in their eyes. But to anyone judging based upon actions and judging their effects, Alda’s actions are evil, and he’s clearly just a mad god.
Kazza
Oh, shit. SOUND THE ALARM!
IT’S KICKIN’ OFF ERRYBODY!
So, way too much to speculate about. I’ll try to keep it concise:
So, what could Fitun’s trump card be? He can’t just kill Van and be done with it, because he can revive himself as an Undead, which he should know from Hajime. He needs to be sealed, but there’s no way Fitun can pull that off before backup can arrive. Maybe there isn’t a plan, and he just hasn’t thought it through? Seems Fitun-like…
The Kage-Bunshin… so, I would think it’s some application of the DK shadow. It doesn’t seem to just be the item storage ability thing, because the figures are described as “silhouettes,” but whether that’s just due to the shade or they’re made of actual darkness is unclear.
My prediction: I’m going to guess the silhouettes are shadow-Vans, who can repeat movements and techniques the main body performs, like an actual shadow. Probably doesn’t need it, ’cause he’s got cloning and Multi-Super-D-Duper Parallel Processing, but cool stuff is cool.
Finally, Murakami… I honestly don’t think he’ll show up. Or if he does, he’s getting the hell out of dodge before he gets “collateral’d” or whatever. Despite the fact that I think he’s one of the lower-threat enemies, I think he deserves a bit more fanfare than that…
Oh! And Fang! Huge Hellhound! Getting so much closer to Cerberus!
But now I’m worried it’ll be some running joke. Like, Fang will then rank up into “Humongous Hellhound -> Gargantuan Hellhound -> Titanic Hellhound -> Brobdignagian Hellhound” and then finally… “Twin-Headed Hellhound.”
And that’s it. There isn’t a Cerberus.
Damn it. Why’d I think of this. That just made me upset… Keep your fingers crossed, Team Cerberus!
VEreality
Lol Team Cerberus(TM) vs Team Fenrir(TM)
Also, those silhouettes might be the undead heroes Van got after killing Gubamon. Haven’t seen much of them
Jonathan Hurd
If I remember correctly a while back when Van got the DKs shadow his Group Binding Technique evolved into Shadow Group Binding Technique. So I think the silhouettes popping up are probably his main line fighters. Borkis, Vigaro, and others.
For Fituns master plan… I honestly suspect there isn’t really one. I think he’s more the killing Van and figuring out the details later kind of planner. I suspect he’s probably relying on Rodcorte to swoop in like Murakamis group is.
Speaking of Murakamis group, I don’t think there is anyway they don’t show up somewhere in this fight. Vans entire intelligence network has been thrown off. There is no better time to try and snipe him than now. Fitun should be able to at least weaken Van if not kill him so why give Van time to retreat back over the mountain and heal. There are no assurances they’ll get a second chance like this again.
For Fang I’m with you on hoping he mutates. I’d say give it some time he’s still only rank 5. Legendary monsters are closer to rank 12ish. If Fang was already getting more heads he’d have no where to go for the next 6 rank ups. Van is embodiment of death. There is no way a Hell hound raised by him doesn’t become a Cerberus.
Kazza
Group Binding! I don’t know how I forgot the name of it.
Yeah, you’ve got a point about Murakami afterwards. But I was thinking more along the lines of the battle itself, because he is not strong enough to make it a three-way fight.
I guess my speculation is based more on Meta-knowledge, as in, Murakami is too significant a villain to come in after the fight to get destroyed, especially since I think this fight is pretty much the end of the volume. So unless there’s some ultimate cliffhanger (which is possible, but I don’t think there’ll be one), I don’t think he’s coming in.
But you may be right. Honestly, maybe I just prefer him to have his own little mini-arc instead of being stapled on to the end of Fitun’s. It just seems unsatisfying to me.
Triduo
Staging a monster rampage in order to spread Van’s forces around the city and fight him with an army of Heroic Spirits borrowing bodies that are lacking fighting abilities and counting on the fact that you’ll be able to use the ‘Marionette’ power to end Van’s life or getting an advantage over him ?
…
I said it last time but I’ll say it this time too : Fitun’s screwed, his army is screwed, Murakami’s group is screwed and Alda’s faction is screwed.
Paradoxe : To add to his foolishness : He forgot Van’s ability to take in Guduranis’ fragments from others and uses them without adding to his mental corruption. -__- <If I were to point the moment Fitun lost… It was right at the end, when Van's shadow spread to let his companions out.)
For his defense : I think that Fitun didn't know about Birkyne's fragment…
Entropy
You raise a good point. With the demon lord’s shadow sealing Vand’s movements might be impossible. I suspect the monster army will buy Fitun’s main forces 5-7 minutes at most especially if Vida joins in the fight with her avatar. I also suspect he does not know that his monsters are fighting against the goddess of life who he probably thinks is still healing from being released. His other teammates might delay Vand’s honor guard a couple more minutes but unless a couple evil gods and several heroes show up, Fitun is already dead.
Tejing
ARG! The chapter cut off just as it was getting good!
Anyway, poor Simon, I expect he’s got quite a few more shocks in store for him in the near future.
I hope Rock is going to be ok. Isn’t he a believer of Fitun? That might put him in more danger…
So Fang doesn’t have Familiar Spirit Demonfall even though he has Van’s divine protection, huh? Seems odd.
Overall, this approach seems very fitting for Fitun, but not actually that good tactically. He’s giving Van lots of small fry to turn into zombies just powerful enough to be of a slight help to him in the battle. Sure, Van’s side needs to expend some strength to defend everyone from the monsters, but that’s really not that big of a handicap for Van. It seems more like Fitun just wants lots of battle and chaos cause that’s what he likes, rather than actually having thought through the best tactic to use.
I do wonder what Murakami’s group is going to do in the middle of all this.
Triduo
Fang has Van’s protection but it’s not completely revealed, so no Familiar Spirit Demonfall for him for now !
My guess is what was already said : He just wants to enjoy a Life or Death war against the one with the ‘Demon King’ title by pushing his limits and kill the ‘Demon King’… He’s like a child leading his group of friends against their teacher in order to have more to play before going back to classes ! ^^
Also, I think Murakami’s group will watch until Fitun’s defeat appears clearly and either order a retreat or try to “finish” an exhausted Vandalieu…
Tejing
Ah, good point about the protection not being fully revealed yet. That’s probably the difference.
Yeah, finishing off Van when he’s weakened after the battle feels like the kind of thing they’d go for.
Triduo
Paradoxe : But if they see Fitun and his army getting rekt by Van who don’t even break a sweat, they’ll quickly get the Hell out of this future No man’s land ! ^^
Jonathan Hurd
We are assuming Van let’s Murakamis group get away, lol. Van knows Murakamis group is in the area and wants to kill him. Obviously the best time to strike would be when your prey is exhausted. No way Van hasn’t dedicated some forces to finding Murakami and Co while he fights Fitun.
Triduo
The thing is… I don’t think Van’s the kind to attack those who wants to kill him-
Paradoxe : What about the Pure-Breed purge ? -__-
They took his family away from him, he had a reason to attack them first !
Paradoxe : So, you’re saying that Van never attacks first ? -__-
bk3k
Rather than being exhausted, while they’re still occupied with another enemy. Fighting after someone else is less advantageous than joining them to combine your strength. Thus forcing your opponent to deal with more attacks at once. Fighting one at a time is more honorable in comparison, but there is no strategic value to it.
Tejing
If they could trust Fitun, you’d be right about the strategy. As it is though, fighting after him is the better option.
Lord Rin
Well Rock isn’t really a firm believer. He’s the same as the general public in that he just prays to a bunch of gods but that’s all. There’s no deeply religious thoughts behind it or anything. Fitun can’t target him to use in this plan against Van just because Rock has occasionally prayed to him if that’s what you’re worried about.
Well as others have said, Fang doesn’t have all the letters of Van’s divine protection revealed yet so that’s probably why he doesn’t have Demonfall yet.
I don’t think the plan itself is that bad overall. The monster rampage is really only meant to make Van spread his allies around the city to protect it which means Van has less allies with him. Also only Van can instantly make the killed monsters into zombie allies but the monsters at other locations can’t be made into allies to bolster Van’s allies. Of course none of it really matters because Van is so strong and has so many strong allies that this plan is probably nothing more than a minor annoyance to his side.
As for Murakami’s group I’m betting they’ll intrude during this fight. They want to finish their mission as quickly as possible so they can get their rewards. Though their “plan” amounts to nothing more than “Assassinate Van” and to me it seems that they somehow think they can just do that like it’s easy. It’s like they are still operating on Origin logic where you can one-hit kill even the strongest person if you hit a vital or ambush them despite being told that that doesn’t really work in Lambda. Murakami doesn’t have the personality to just watch this fight and he isn’t smart enough to know when he should retreat.
Tejing
Gordon wasn’t really a firm believer either…
And yeah, it does feel like Murakami’s group is half-assing it. Not nearly so much as Kanata did, but still.
Lord Rin
He wasn’t but he was compatible with becoming a host vessel for Bobby. Presumably Rock isn’t compatible with any of Fitun’s subordinates.
ExplodingPenguinDood
Gotdam there wasn’t any fighting but I was excited reading that. Is this the climax of this Vol? I hope so. I think that murakami and co interfering would be like eating beef, salmon, and shrimp stew but who knows it might work ┐( ̄ヘ ̄)┌
Does the sub gods know they can be erased by fighting Van? If so then they must be muscle and fighting brained people so I guess they’ll disappear doing what they love at least

The trio or rat sisters have learned to sing and dance… are they going to become magical girls as well? I suppose a collar would work as a transformation item instead of a wand, but still.
And Fang can dance as well. I have a bad feeling that Fang is going to get suckered into being a backup dancer for the trio of rat sisters.

I imagine those figures are likely going to be either some kind of Elite Soldier-type Demon King familiars that are inhabited by Van’s spirit clones. Or maybe just literal Shadow clones.
Also, once the god of forehea -cough- thunderheads dies, Alda will probably find some way to blame Van for the attack. Perhaps “Vandalieu’s very presence causes discord and destruction!”
Superboy8338
They could also just be more of Vans allies.
Triduo
Paradoxe : Nah, I don’t think he’ll get upset over a god who abandoned his seat to get a fight with their common enemy… Also, he’ll probably just give his title to one of Fitun’s surviving Heroic Spirit or Fitun’s guided colleague… I mean, he’s supposed to be THAT oblivious to the bad ideas he gets, right ?
Entropy
Thanks for the chapter. Poor Simon, thinking his master is limited to normal attacks. Kind of wondering if he and his fellow student will go to Vand’s capital. I am guessing Vand will wipe out Fitun and his gang in two, maybe three chapters. I am curious if the thunder dragons are able to be tamed by Vand since I think one of his titles is dragon emperor. Might be possible after Fitun is destroyed. I find it funny that he thinks rank 8 monsters will even delay Vand’s servants. Aren’t most of them between rank 10-15 with most leaning towards the 15 rank. I know most of the ghouls, vampires, and undead are around those ranks if they are the main cast. I do wonder if the other reincarnators will attack after the fight or during it. Maybe they will do the smart thing, observe the massacre and then go run away and hide.
Valeth
They are high ranks yes but I think only the Commanders/Main cast are 13+ and even then not many are above that I think. Remember at Rank 13 you have reached the realm of the gods in power.
While its true the 3 Battle Heroes could kill rank 13 monsters like they were nothing, I doubt Fitun and his subordinates are at their level. Even when in ideal bodies, the fact that there bodies are weaker than them means they most likley won’t be able to go full out 100% of their power without destroying their physical bodies.
Guroga
wow wasn’t expecting a new release so soon.
