《The Levels of the Multi-Cast, Armor Technique, Shield Technique, Unarmed Fighting Technique, Group Binding Technique and Surpass Limits: Fragments Skill have increased!》
Vandalieu had recently been having very unpleasant dreams. His life was going very well – He had achieved one of his life goals, the resurrection of his mother Darcia, and he had recently changed Jobs to Spirit Warrior. And yet, despite that, he was seeing extraordinarily terrible things in his sleep.
He wasn’t entering the dreams of others to hand them something (like a divine protection), nor had his senses become entangled with those of one of his Demon King Familiars.
They were dreams of a fight to the death against the Five-colored Blades, led by the detestable ‘Blue-flamed Sword’ Heinz. However, if that was all, the dreams would not have been that unpleasant… There were several unpleasant things in the dream, and these made the dreams very unpleasant for Vandalieu.
First of all, he could not move his body freely. His field of vision and even his mouth did not reflect Vandalieu’s will. No matter what he tried, his body was controlled by someone else.
Well, it was a dream, so perhaps this could not be helped. However, the unpleasant parts of the dream could not be excused with ‘Because it’s a dream.’
“I don’t know why you’ve appeared here… nor do I know why you carry the Demon King’s fragments,” said the Heinz in Vandalieu’s dreams.
Heinz and his companions were slightly older in Vandalieu’s dreams than they had been when Vandalieu encountered them in the city of Niarki and when they fought against Ternecia. The magic sword that emitted blue flames hadn’t changed, but it seemed that the rest of the party’s equipment had been replaced by higher-quality items.
Perhaps this was the reason, but the Five-colored Blades in Vandalieu’s dream were very clearly stronger than when he had observed them through Lemures.
Back then, the Five-colored Blades had allowed Ternecia to escape from a five-on-one situation despite having her cornered, but if they had been as they were now, they would certainly have been able to slay her without giving her a chance to flee.
I don’t really hate that part of the dream, either. In fact, it’s realistic and reassuring that they’ve become stronger than they were four years ago. But what I can’t accept is… the fact that ‘these guys’ are treating me as an ally, Vandalieu thought.
The ‘these guys’ that Vandalieu referred to were the Pure-breed Vampires Ternecia and Gubamon, who were quietly cackling beside him. He fiercely refused to accept this.
They had never considered him as an ally, let alone fought alongside him.
“But we shall defeat you today!” Heinz declared as he and his companions faced Vandalieu with resolve in their expressions.
Against Vandalieu’s will, the Vandalieu inside the dream moved in unison with Ternecia and Gubamon to engage the Five-colored Blades in battle.
It was true that Vandalieu had transplanted parts from the Live-dead Ternecia into Bellmond and Eleanora, and that he had used the Demon Eye of Destruction recovered from Gubamon as one of the materials for Darcia’s new body.
But why did he have to fight alongside these enemies whose souls he had destroyed, even if it was a dream?
The thing that made this even more unpleasant was that the Vandalieu in these dreams was far weaker than the present Vandalieu.
Among the fragments of the Demon King, I mainly use only the blood and horns. The ink sacs and suction cups are thrown in only occasionally, and I’m not using the eyeballs or antennae. I can use Dead Spirit Magic, but I can’t summon Princess Levia and Orbia herself, nor can I call on Pete and the others from Group Binding Technique. I can’t use Dark King Magic or Hollow King Magic like Death Cannon or Hollow Cannon. Most importantly, the Levels of my other Skills and my Attribute Values are much lower! Vandalieu cursed in his mind.
He wasn’t looking at his Status in the dream, but the dream Vandalieu’s movements were clearly slower and feebler than the current Vandalieu’s, and his attacks were of poorer quality.
He wasn’t even using the advanced Unarmed Fighting Technique martial skills that the current Vandalieu was capable of performing.
And for some reason, he had become unable to use Soul Devour. Even when he landed blows upon Heinz, Delizah and Jennifer, there were no signs of any damage to their Mana. It seemed that he could hinder their activated Heroic Spirit Descent Skills; there were shattering sounds as his attacks landed, but he didn’t feel the sensation of actually destroying the heroic spirits’ souls, so there was no point in this.
On the other hand, Heinz and his companions had clearly become more skilled than they had been when Vandalieu observed them fighting Ternecia. Their Attribute Values had become higher, of course, and they were even attacking Vandalieu with martial skills that he didn’t know.
On top of that… this wasn’t the first time that Vandalieu was having this dream. He had had dreams of this scenario numerous times. Each time, Vandalieu and the two Pure-breed Vampires had killed Heinz and his companions.
But every time Vandalieu had this dream, every member of the Five-colored Blades was growing stronger. To be more precise, it wasn’t that their actual ability was increasing a significant amount. At first, they had seemed to be hesitant to attack, but that behavior had disappeared as Vandalieu kept having these dreams.
Using their experience from the previous day, they would come up with plans, prepare items… Yesterday, Vandalieu had been using surprise attacks with Sharp Tongue – an Unarmed Fighting Technique martial skill utilizing the effects of the Body Extension: Tongue Skill – to great effect. But in the dream that he was having now, it was largely ineffective.
The puppets created from ink using the Demon King’s ink sacs were seen through straight away.
The Five-colored Blades were clearly learning from their experiences.
Perhaps they were learning how to fight against Ternecia and Gubamon as well as Vandalieu; they had become able to deal with the use of the Demon Eyes, spells and even martial skills that utilized the fragments of the Demon King.
Despite that, Ternecia, Gubamon and the Vandalieu inside the dream were not learning anything from the previous battles. They were showing the same openings they had shown in the previous dreams, and in tonight’s dream, they were being wounded because these openings were being utilized.
It feels as if I’ve become an enemy in a video game that only moves according to a thought-process routine that someone has programmed, and Heinz and the others are the game’s players. It might not be surprising for this to not make any sense. It’s just a dream, after all. But… even for a simulation inside my dreams, isn’t it too favored for my enemies? Vandalieu complained to himself in his mind as he watched Gubamon fall beside him, his Demon King’s carapace shattered and his Demon Eye of Destruction crushed.
But it seemed that Heinz did not hear these words.
It wasn’t that he wanted to talk to Heinz and his companions in a dream. He at least wanted to convince Jennifer and Diana to leave the Five-colored Blades, and ask them what relation they had to that Dhampir girl, but these things were meaningless to ask in a dream.
However –
“If you hold the Demon King’s fragments in the real world as well… no matter what your circumstances are, even if you are the child of the woman that I let die, we must defeat you. The Demon King’s fragments… We can’t leave them be!” Heinz declared, seemingly shaking off his doubts as he closed in on Vandalieu.
It was extremely unpleasant for Vandalieu to hear such things without being able to respond.
This unpleasant feeling filled Vandalieu as Heinz cut through the wall of the Demon King’s blood, the Impact-Negating Barrier, deflected a futile Unarmed Fighting Technique martial skill and buried his sword inside Vandalieu’s body.
But the blade of Heinz’s magic sword cut through Vandalieu’s body, diagonally downwards from the shoulder. Vandalieu felt himself fall to his knees… felt the strength leave his body. In the corner of his vision, he could see pieces of what was Ternecia just moments ago, lying on the ground. The pieces showed no signs of regenerating.
It seemed that Heinz and his companions had finally achieved victory in tonight’s dream.
“… From the bottom of my heart, I pray that this is just an illusion, and that things are different in reality,” said Heinz, averting his gaze from Vandalieu and closing his eyes.
Indeed, things were different in reality. The real Vandalieu had become far stronger than the one that had been defeated in this dream. He had absorbed numerous fragments of the Demon King and increased his Attribute Values as well as his Skill Levels. He even had the Gyubarzo staff, and he had true companions at his side.
He would never allow a situation where things were so convenient for Heinz.
I’ll definitely kill you, Vandalieu thought, and he got the feeling that his mouth finally managed to move; the dream Vandalieu managed to utter the same words.
But in the next moment, Vandalieu’s consciousness faded.
《The Levels of the Rapid Regeneration, Enhanced Agility, Surpass Limits: Fragments, Transcend Limits, Materialization and Abyss Skills have increased!》
《Spirit Form has awakened into Soul Form!》
《Artillery Technique Skill has awakened into Demon King Artillery Technique!》
Heinz turned his gaze back towards Vandalieu in surprise, but Vandalieu was already turning into dust and disappearing.
“Heinz, are you alright?” Edgar asked.
“Y-yeah, it’s nothing,” Heinz replied, but he looked dumbfounded; it certainly did not look as if it was ‘nothing.’
After arriving at the 50th floor, Heinz and his companions had suffered ten consecutive defeats against Vandalieu and the two Pure-breed Vampires that had appeared there.
Approximately four years had passed since they fought Ternecia. During that time, Heinz had awakened his Guider Skill, and the entire party had undergone Job changes, gained divine protections and even acquired Heroic Spirit Descent. Despite that, they had been defeated ten times.
That was because the Vandalieu that could not possibly exist in the real world and the two Pure-breed Vampires had displayed incredibly advanced coordination, and yet each of them was prepared to sacrifice their allies without a moment’s hesitation.
The carelessness and hysteria that Ternecia had displayed in reality had been absent during these battles, and Gubamon had remained calm throughout, never making any poor decisions as a result of anger or fear.
More importantly, Vandalieu had been an absolute anomaly. He had the appearance of a young boy, but he had created countless clones, freely cast spells that Heinz and his companions had never heard of, unleashed elemental spells (though these were actually Dead Spirit Magic Spells) while simultaneously using the Demon King’s fragments, and attacked with a tongue that was coated in a deadly, venomous saliva and extended several meters.
On top of that, he had turned the ground, walls and ceiling into Golems. These Golems themselves were nothing more than small fry that Heinz and his companions could defeat with a single light swing of their weapons, but they had not been able to avoid losing their footing when the ground beneath them began to move.
However, the greatest reason that Heinz had suffered defeat to Vandalieu and the two Pure-breed Vampires ten times was a mental problem.
Long ago, Heinz’s party had captured and handed a witch… a Dark Elf woman who had given birth to Dhampir, over to a high priest of Alda at the request of the Adventurers’ Guild. Facing the boy who might be her son, Heinz’s limbs had trembled and his swordsmanship had been dulled.
That had been taken advantage of, until yesterday.
“Are you really alright, Heinz? I have said it many times, and I think you know this yourself, but that was not the boy we met in the Adventurers’ Guild in Niarki. It was just an illusion,” said Diana. “And if the real him also possesses the Demon King’s fragments, multiple of them, then… we must defeat him, as we have done up until now. That is the right thing to do. And doing so will become an act of atonement for you.”
The fate of those infested by the Demon King’s fragments, no matter who they were, was a loss of sanity and going on a rampage in a desire for the other fragments. Those with multiple fragments would undergo this process faster, and would become a greater threat once they did so.
The only thing that others could do for such individuals was to kill them as quickly as possible… This was common sense in human society.
“… I do understand that. That’s why I was praying that things are different in reality,” Heinz managed to say.
“Diana says that, but I personally can’t believe that that was the real one,” said Jennifer, controlling the tone of her voice so that it was bright, but not unnaturally so. “I mean, think about it. He cast spells that we don’t know as well as strange elemental spells, created countless clones and used his tongue like a frog. In what world does a Dhampir like that exist? And those were all separate abilities from the Demon King’s fragments, weren’t they? Don’t lose hope.”
“I don’t think the chance that he coincidentally found the Demon King’s blood and got infested by it is zero, but I think the other things are simply impossible no matter how you think about it,” Delizah added. “The fact that he had other fragments… No matter what kind of a genius he was, casting spells like that with Chant Revocation at that age… Turning the surrounding walls and pillars into Golems at will… All of those would be impossible, even for the kinds of mages whose names are written in legends.”
It seemed that Jennifer and Delizah believed that such a Vandalieu could not exist in the real world. At the very least, this Vandalieu could not possibly be the Dhampir they had met in the city of Niarki, the son of the witch – Dark Elf – that Heinz was thinking of.
Heinz finally managed to take his mind off Vandalieu and got to his feet.
“Alright, once we’ve had some rest, we’ll move on to the next floor – ugh!” he groaned mid-sentence, staggering.
“What is the matter, Heinz?!” asked Diana.
“Th-that’s… It seems that he turned his own blood into poison as he was dealt the fatal blow…” Heinz muttered.
“That brat! How can he use such a cowardly trick when he’s just an illusion!” Edgar spat.
“Diana, neutralize the poison! If Heinz dies here, we might have to start over from here tomorrow!” said Jennifer.
Diana managed to neutralize Vandalieu’s parting gift that put Heinz on the verge of death, and the Five-colored Blades headed for the entrance to the next floor.
Watching them, Curatos, the god of records, felt disappointment at the failure of his plan.
Because the Pure-breed Vampire Birkyne was still alive, Curatos had not reproduced him. However, Curatos had reproduced Vandalieu, even though he was quite possibly still changing and becoming even more of an anomaly right this moment. He had done so to make the Five-colored Blades realize that Vandalieu was just as evil as – no, more evil than – the Pure-breed Vampires.
Unlike the Dhampir girl Selen who was under the protection of Heinz and his companions, Vandalieu played with lives, defiled the dead and put the entire world in danger. Curatos had wanted to show that to Heinz and his companions.
That was why Curatos had made Vandalieu use the Demon King’s fragments at the beginning of the first battle. He had wanted to show the Five-colored Blades that Vandalieu possessed the Demon King’s fragments and make them realize that Vandalieu was the one who had taken the horns from Ternecia, the one they had let escape.
However, this had not been enough to make Heinz and his companions completely change their perception of Vandalieu.
“As there is the trial on the 65th floor, there is no need for impatience,” Curatos murmured to himself. “If they still possess doubts after that, there is also the option of recreating the Mirg shield-nation’s battle against Talosheim and showing it to them.”
Curatos was the god who governed records. It was a simple matter for him to show Vandalieu’s wickedness to Heinz and his companions.
He knew that this would not be a pleasant experience for them. But it was necessary.
“Because eventually, they must awaken Bellwood who slumbers in the Labyrinth of Sin, a place that even my lord Alda cannot step foot into,” Curatos reminded himself. “But… was that just a coincidence?”
Curatos was slightly suspicious. Had he programmed the recreated Vandalieu to attack with a trap even after it was destroyed?
But Vandalieu had been known to cast a spell that turned his own blood into a deadly poison, so Curatos turned his attention to planning the structure of the trials of the 51st floor and beyond, convincing himself that the recreated Vandalieu had simply happened to do so the moment before it was destroyed.
“That’s an unpleasant, or rather, scary dream,” said Kanako, who had been transformed into a Chaos Elf by Darcia.
That was her opinion about the dream that Vandalieu had just had, which he had told her immediately after waking up.
“… I didn’t feel like it was scary, though,” said Vandalieu, blinking several times in surprise.
“No, we thought they were scary when we heard about them, too!” said Isis.
“Yeah, Hitomi-chan said she thought they’re scary, too,” said Jack.
“They are scary, right?” said Kanako, putting her hands on her hips as the others agreed with her. “I mean, they’re dreams where you fought enemies that were weak at first but got stronger and stronger, and in the end, you were killed. Those are nightmares! Like a horror story!”
“I see. If you think about it that way, they are indeed scary dreams,” said Vandalieu.
“… It seems like you imagined it and understood, but you’re still not convinced, right, Onii-chan?” said Kanako.
Vandalieu narrowed his eyes as he ignored a certain part of Kanako’s sentence, then nodded. “Well, yes. It’s just a dream, after all.”
A dream where he was wounded and eventually killed. No matter how vivid and realistic the dream was, Vandalieu had not felt any fear, as his constantly-active Danger Sense: Death had given no response.
It was a spell that detected any kind of danger of death, and since it had not given any response, Vandalieu had known that he would not actually die, no matter how gruesome a death he died in the dream. As he had been sure of this, he felt no fear, even if he did find the dreams unpleasant.
“But if it was a dream of Heinz killing Mom and everyone else, then I probably wouldn’t have been able to stay calm, even with no response from Danger Sense: Death,” Vandalieu added.
Another large reason why he had felt no fear was that the ones dying in the dream were only himself as well as Ternecia and Gubamon, who had been hated enemies and certainly could not be called his friends. No matter what kind of horrible fates those two met, Vandalieu felt nothing.
If they had been Darcia, Eleanora, Zadiris, Borkus or any of his other companions, he would not be as composed as he was now.
Kanako hesitated a little before asking: “… Onii-chan, am I included in that ‘everyone?’”
“There’s no way that you wouldn’t be included,” Vandalieu replied immediately, ignoring a certain part of her sentence once more. “Kanako, you are one of my companions and a citizen of Talosheim.”
“Th-thank you so much, Onii-chan!” she cried emotionally, embracing Legion and rubbing her cheek against the cheek of Vandalieu, who was buried inside Legion with only his face sticking out.
Kanako’s behavior seemed to set Legion’s members off, too.
“Vandalieu, what about us?” asked Isis.
Berserk gave a questioning growl.
“Yeah, what about us?” asked Baba Yaga.
Legion moved forward, burying the top half of Kanako’s body in them as well.
A minute later, Legion realized that Kanako was performing a frantic dance with just her legs, and released her. She gasped for air, shoulders heaving, before finally speaking again.
“So, Onii-chan, there’s a reason for this sneaky event where the younger sister goes to wake up her sleeping Onii-chan,” Kanako said.
“… Was it that kind of event?” Vandalieu asked.
Kanako suddenly averted her gaze.
“Kanako just came in while Vandalieu was sleeping with us, right?” said Pluto.
“Who’s the one who saw us and screamed?!” said Isis.
“It can’t be helped! Anyone would be shocked if they saw Onii-chan buried inside Legion up to his neck!” Kanako shouted defensively.
Indeed, due to his recent unpleasant dreams, Vandalieu had been sleeping with Legion… buried inside them from his neck down.
Incidentally, he had slept with the Patchwork Hydra Zombie Yamata the previous night, and with the larvae in the Gehenna Bees’ nest the night before that. It was like a reverse body pillow effect.
“Ah, these dreams are to be kept a secret from Mom. I don’t want to make Mom worry over something unimportant like this,” said Vandalieu.
“Yes, yes,” Kanako said quickly. “So, the reason I’m here is, I wanted to put you in a good mood so that I could ask you to make a personal transformation staff for Darcia-Mama too, Onii-chan.”
“… I think Vandalieu would operate the same as always if all you did was put him in a bit of a good mood after waking up,” said Shade.
“Shade’s right. Especially since you’re trying to put him in a good mood all the time anyway,” Enma pointed out.
“Ugh, I’ve become such a cheap woman…!” Kanako lamented, hanging her head.
“By the way, it’s become pretty difficult to ignore now, so I have to ask. Why are you calling me ‘Onii-chan?’” Vandalieu finally asked.
Kanako recovered immediately, looking energetic again in an instant. “About that, Darcia-san turned me into a Chaos Elf, didn’t she? I didn’t gain an Orichalcum skeleton, but thanks to her, my Night Vision has turned into Dark Vision, I’ve gained the Rapid Regeneration Skill, I’ve become able to change the shape or color of a part of my body using Chaos… So, when someone transforms another person into a member of one of Vida’s races, they’re like parent and child, right? That’s why Darcia is Mama, and you’re Onii-chan,” she said happily.
“… You don’t have to force yourself, you know. You’re my former classmate, Kanako-san,” said Vandalieu.
“No, I’m not really forcing myself,” said Kanako. “Ah, could it be that you’d prefer ‘Nii-san’ or ‘Ani-gimi?’”
TLN: I’m sure you’ve all heard ‘Nii-san’ before; ‘Ani-gimi’ is an uncommon and very formal way to refer to your older brother.
“No,” said Vandalieu, immediately shaking his head.
“Really? But Aniki or Ani-ue doesn’t really work with my gender…”
“Please call me by my name.”
“Hmm, I see. Vandalieu, you’re developing your secondary sexual characteristics and you’ll go into puberty soon, and you’ll eventually have twice as many women as you do now. So I was thinking that I should make you seem as impressive as possible,” Kanako explained.
It seemed that she was having similar worries to the Four Drakonid Elders of the Drakonid nation.
“I don’t think I’ll have twice as many. I postponed those kinds of talks with the people from the Drakonid nation, too,” said Vandalieu.
“But Vandalieu, Schneider and the others are going around the villages of Vida’s races on the Amid Empire side of the continent, so won’t you have more relationships from that?” said Pluto.
Her point was reasonable, though it was unlikely that there would be a candidate from every village.
“… So, a personal transformation staff for Mom,” said Vandalieu, forcibly returning to the original topic. “I won’t ask why you want me to make one and give it to her, since I can imagine your reasons.”
“You can, right?” said Kanako with a nod, making no attempt at hiding them.
Having been resurrected as ‘Vida’s incarnation,’ Darcia had gained a passionate popularity among the nations inside the Boundary Mountain Range.
There was a movement to erect a statue of Darcia beside the statue of Vida in every nation’s Churches, and although sermons and festivals were being held back for now because she had only just been resurrected recently, there were many proposals to hold them once a certain amount of time had passed.
Schneider had heard the news of Darcia’s resurrection through a Goblin communication device. He had said that Vandalieu, Darcia or both might need to come to the villages that the Storm of Tyranny could not persuade.
That was how great an impact the goddess’s incarnation had. If Darcia were to wield a transformation staff, the popularity of magical girls would not remain among children and a small group of fans; it would spread among all of the people inside the Boundary Mountain Range… and even possibly among Vida’s races that lived on the outside, as well as believers of Vida in human societies.
There was no way that Kanako would miss that possibility.
“Which means the answer is no after all, right? Well, it can’t be helped, can it,” said Kanako.
“Yes, it hasn’t been long since Mom’s resurrection, so it will take some time to complete,” said Vandalieu.
“You’re right. No matter how effective transformation staves are, you won’t let your mother become an exhibition… wait, you will?!” she asked startled.
She had actually come here assuming that the answer would be no, but Vandalieu had already begun work on creating a transformation staff for Darcia.
“Kanako, since I’m the emperor, I fully understand that my mother will draw a lot of attention,” said Vandalieu. “In any case, transformation staves are liquid metal clothes that serve as armor and magical support equipment, what you would have called ‘media’ in Origin. They’re not dubious items.”
That was how Vandalieu perceived transformation staves. It was true that the post-transformation clothing of the transformation staves was a little revealing by Earth’s standards.
But Zadiris and Zandia had always worn highly-revealing clothes from the beginning. Darcia had also worn tight clothes that revealed the curves of her body back when she was a Dark Elf.
That was why Vandalieu did not really mind… though there were technical problems involved as well. Increasing the surface area of the cloth too much would add a lot of weight, as they were made of liquid metal, and it would become more difficult to maintain the bonds between the fibers of the clothing.
That was why he did not really have any objections to giving Darcia a transformation staff. In fact, he was building it with the desire of making it his mother’s best outfit.
“Then is it alright for Darcia-Mama to become a Magical Girl?” Kanako asked.
“Mom is free to make her own choice as to whether to take that Job, and it’s up to her whether she wants to use a transformation staff,” Vandalieu replied. “As a severe mother-con, it’s only natural for me to try to provide her with the best equipment possible.”
“Even if you’re aware that you are one, you don’t have to actually say it out loud…” one of Legion’s members muttered.
“Then I’ll do my best to invite her on-stage once her transformation staff is done!” Kanako said happily.
It seemed that the possibility of Darcia becoming a magical girl and making a stage debut was now on the table.
“By the way, where’s Melissa?” Vandalieu asked.
“No way! You prefer Melissa over me?!” Kanako cried.
“No, that’s not what I mean. I was just asking because I thought that it’s unusual for you two to not be together.”
“Melissa is out shopping with Doug today. She said she wants to buy new clothes because her skin color’s different now. She also said she wanted to have a meal with him to cheer him up from the fact that he’s still a human despite drinking Vandalieu’s blood,” said Jack. “I think it’s just a date, though,” he added.
“You’re right, Jack. Melissa and Doug have gone out on a date,” said Hitomi.
It seemed that the two of them were busy with their own matters.
Suddenly, Vandalieu realized that Kanako had never invited Melissa to join her idol activities.
Though past events had brought them together as companions that got along well with each other, perhaps their private lives were separate.
Incidentally, Doug had tried drinking Vandalieu’s blood together with Luciliano to see if they would transform from humans into a new race, but this had ended in failure.
This was a reproduction of the ritual in which a Pure-breed Vampire turned a human into a Noble-born Vampire, but no change had happened to them after they drank Vandalieu’s blood while bathing in the sunlight.
If one were to ask Vandalieu, he would have said this was an obvious outcome, however. In fact, he would have liked to ask in return why they thought that doing this would bring about a transformation in the first place.
“Never mind Doug and Melissa’s date; where is Darcia-Mama?” asked Kanako. “I want to hurry up and invite her into my idol unit.”
“She was in a Dungeon until early morning, increasing her Level and testing her new body out, and she’s inside the Job-changing room of the Explorers’ Guild now because she’s Level 100. It seems that she’s having a hard time deciding which Job to take,” said Vandalieu.
Meanwhile, as Vandalieu expected, Darcia was struggling to choose a Job, having made the Demon King familiar accompanying her wait outside the Job-changing room.
“What a hard choice… Who knew there would be so many! What should I do?” she murmured to herself.
Darcia’s resurrection had reset her Job history. When she touched the crystal ball, a countless number of available Jobs had been displayed in her head, far more than she could have imagined.
There were apprentice Jobs of every kind, mage-type Jobs, warrior-type Jobs and even multiple creation-type Jobs. There weren’t any peculiar Jobs that Vandalieu had made appear, nor were there any special Jobs like Guider Jobs, but there were many Jobs that Darcia had never heard of.
This was because Darcia’s Attribute Values and Skill Levels were high, thus meeting the requirements of acquiring numerous Jobs even though it was her first Job change. But the biggest factor was that unlike Vandalieu, she did not bear the ‘Cannot learn existing Jobs’ curse.
“There’s even the Spirit Warrior Job. Vandalieu has already acquired this Job, so it’s alright… and it doesn’t seem like there are any other Jobs that Vandalieu hasn’t acquired yet.”
It was unclear as to up to which point the ‘Cannot learn existing Jobs’ curse deemed Jobs as ‘existing,’ but the truth was that if someone else were to acquire a Job, Vandalieu would certainly become unable to acquire it. Worried about this, Darcia had asked Vandalieu which Jobs were currently available to him at this point in time.
“The ‘Wild Spirit’ and ‘Dark Battery Cannoneer’ Jobs that he said were there when he acquired Spirit Warrior aren’t there,” Darcia continued to mutter to herself. “Then I just need to choose a Job from here, but… which should I pick? Should I start with the reliable ‘Mage’ Job? Or should I choose a Job that seems like it will increase the Levels of superior Skills? It wouldn’t be bad to improve my water and wind attributes, which haven’t awakened yet… I haven’t learned Armor Technique or Shield Technique yet, but maybe I should take Demon Eye User to become more skilled in using the Demon Eye of Regeneration.”
The Spiritual Magic Skill that Darcia had once possessed was only Level 2, as real spirits did not exist in Vida’s Divine Realm and she had only managed to practice with fake spirits. The Levels of her Skills allowing her to use water- and wind-attribute magic were Level 10, but they had not awakened into superior Skills yet. Perhaps she ought to improve those?
Or should she acquire a combat-type Job with the aim of awakening superior Skills that would allow her to fight in close-quarters combat? Or should she take Guardian Warrior in order to make use of the resilience granted to her by Divine Metal Skeleton, and acquire the Armor Technique and Shield Technique Skills… thus making up for her weaknesses?
As a third choice, perhaps Demon Eye User was a good idea.
The Demon Eye of Destruction taken from Gubamon had become the Demon Eye of Regeneration, a Demon Eye with the complete opposite properties, as a result of the reconstruction of Darcia’s body. The cause of this was unknown, but it was likely because Vandalieu had combined the root of life with all kinds of materials, or because Darcia’s mind had spent time in the Divine Realm of Vida, the goddess of life and love, or a combination of all of these factors.
Darcia considered the benefits of becoming skilled in the use of this Demon Eye. It was a Demon Eye that regenerated those that it gazed at, allowing her to use it to heal others, but there were also all kinds of other uses for it.
If she stared at them for a while, cracked vases, torn paintings and broken swords would all return to their original form; she could even restore such items from numerous fragments, as long as they were a certain size… though she wasn’t able to regenerate missing Orichalcum from broken fragments, which would allow her to produce infinite quantities of it.
But even that might become possible to some extent if she improved her skill in the use of the Demon Eye of Regeneration.
“But still… Hmm…”
Looking from option to option, Darcia was having difficulty making a decision. She had never had problems deciding when she was a Dark Elf, since there hadn’t been so many Jobs, but…
“But I’m happy just to be able to change Jobs at all. I’ve heard that there are people who struggle after going to the Adventurers’ Guild because no Jobs appeared… but are there any Jobs that look like they’ll give bonuses to both combat-type and magic-type Skills?” Darcia wondered. “I want to be useful when Vandalieu goes to the Orbaume Kingdom, after all.”
Soon… Likely sometime after next year, Vandalieu would go to the Orbaume Kingdom.
His objectives there were things that he had failed to achieve before – creating allies within the kingdom, registering at a Guild like the Commerce Guild to obtain identification and guarantee his place in society, setting up a base to gather intelligence… as well as the objective of disposing of Murakami and those with him, who had apparently been reincarnated there. If possible, he also wanted to erase the Pure-breed Vampire Birkyne.
Vandalieu had also explained that he wanted to unite the believers of Vida inside the kingdom as the ‘Holy Son of Vida’ if he could.
“It’ll be after me and Vandalieu’s bodies become stable, and he’s received the Demon King’s fragments from the Pure-breed Vampires that are sleeping in Vida’s Resting Grounds… so the start of next year, I suppose,” Darcia murmured. “I want to become able to fight alongside Vandalieu by then. Not that I know if there’ll be an opportunity for that.”
While Vandalieu was away from Talosheim, it was possible that the Storm of Tyranny might ask her to help convince the members of Vida’s races on the outside.
They were having trouble convincing the elder chieftains of the hidden Dark Elf villages, including the one that was Darcia’s birthplace.
The truth was that Darcia was actually related to one of the elder chieftains. From that chieftain’s point of view, Darcia was just one out of his many dozens, many hundreds of descendants; he had only met her once when Darcia was a child, but that was the extent of the relationship between them.
Well, she did imagine that Schneider and Dalton were relying on her status as Vida’s incarnation.
“If possible, I want to take Vandalieu with me and have him meet Mother and Father, though. Ah, oh no. I need to focus on choosing a Job right now,” said Darcia, starting to look for a convenient Job once more.
But she was having trouble finding such a Job among the ones available to her.
Should she try out several Jobs that gave widespread bonuses, or should she stop here and consult Vandalieu first?
As Darcia pondered this choice, one Job suddenly caught her eye.
“… Magical Girl, the Job that Zadiris-san and Kanako-san have acquired. If I recall, it’s a Job that apparently gives bonuses to combat-related Skills as well as magic-related Skills. And it seems like it would be easy to gain popularity from those around me… Maybe it would help me with my work as the incarnation of the goddess?” she wondered. “The problem is that I’m not a ‘girl…’ Well, that’s fine, right? I’m 0 years old again now that I’ve gained a new body, after all.”
And so, Darcia changed Jobs to Magical Girl.
Far away, in Vida’s Resting Grounds, Vida may have been shouting, “Wait a second! You might become known as the goddess of magical girls!” But these words did not reach Darcia’s ears.

Job explanation (Written by Luciliano):
Magic Cannoneer
This seems to be a Job that mainly provides bonuses to creating a cannon barrel and projectiles with the Demon King’s fragments and using either magic or the power of another fragment to fire the projectiles. It can likely be assumed that another Job would appear if one were to mainly use artillery with kinetic energy provided by gunpowder, such as Cannoneer or Gunman.
As for Attribute Values, it seems to help increase Stamina and Strength, while making it difficult to increase Agility.
Based on its name, the ‘Dark Battery Cannoneer’ Job that appeared when Master changed from this Job would appear to be a superior version of this Job, but… it also seems that there are other factors mixed in.

“we must defeat him, as we have done up until now. That is the right thing to do. And doing so will become an act of atonement for you”
So his atonement is not to just kill the mother on purpose (they took the quest in a land where dark elfs get punished to death) but also to finish the job to kill of her child, that didnt die of starvation ONLY because it had the undead/death attribute. What BS is this? This isnt atonement, but just getting rid of your past mistakes in a convenient way by murdering the eye whitnesses of your crimes.

Forget the industrial revolution that Bellwood fears, Vandalieu will bring about the Magical Girl revolution instead xDDDDDDDD
Akachi86
“Vandalieu played with lives, defiled the dead and put the entire world in danger.”
Said the toadie of a god who forced an eclipse, which released evil gods and weakened seals on DK fragments, so that his chosen puppet can gain control of an empire.

Magical Girls Idol group is going to debut very soon
Vitor
“Wait a second! You might become known as the goddess of magical girls!”
Oh, no, Vida-sama… She os your incarnation… So YOU might become known as the godess of Magical Girls 🤣
On the other hand… Kanako doing Kanako things and trying to achieve her dreams in her third life, good luck with that, here we have someone who, in a sense, does as Van, who attempts to get the happy life he couldn’t un his previous lives
Ronin
No I think technically Darcia would and not Vida. Because it’s true she is Vida’s incarnation she’s also the origin or source of Chaos Elves. That would put her on the level as the Kijin and Majin ancestors who are gods as well. So just like how the Kijin worship their ancestor and Vida chaos elves would do the same. lol
Zenden1st
nice chapter darcia’s thoughts are kinda pure but smart
Ereshkigal
Imagine having a death match against the murderer of your mother but you couldn’t control your body… Quite unpleasant indeed.
What’s worst is that you also have to hear the sermon of that same MF.
.
“And if the real him also possesses the Demon King’s fragments, multiple of them, then… we must defeat him, as we have done up until now. That is the right thing to do. And doing so will become an act of atonement for you.”
So killing the child of the mother you killed ( though not directly) is an act of atonement? This btch need to be slap
Vitor
Indeed, he has crossed the point of redemption, only death awaits
Feito_no_ceu
the worst part is that heinz is not like bellwold, as he really questions if he is right nor treats his point of view as absolute, but fate makes them turn against each other with no possibility for them to talk or recognize each other, in a hypothetical scenario where heinz goes to taloheish he would definitely revise his ideals (this is doubly true if you think about the van guide job effects), but the author doesn’t seem to want that at all none, so we can all see the possible end of this :\
lazygeko
There will be a meeting. And talking between Heinz and his group and Van. And then we will know how Heinz really thinks.

“Unlike the Dhampir girl Selen who was under the protection of Heinz and his companions, Vandalieu played with lives, defiled the dead and put the entire world in danger. Curatos had wanted to show that to Heinz and his companions.”
So Van that simple united Vida races and rule over mountain boudaryand gather demon king fragments making that they dont rampage anymore and even kill evil gods rnant of the demon king army is a threat to the world, but alda that created a eclipse that make some moster stronger weaking evil god and framts of demon king seals simple to make a pope puppet is a saviour, cutatos the god of records and Hypocrisy you recive the prize of the tird more stupidy, egocentric And hypocrite god congratulations
Ps: the first is a tied beteen alda and Rodcorte, and the level of stupidy , hipocrisy and egocentrism of Bellowood is so high that can not be measured.

Lol Van so strong that he started to gain control of his own records

” even if you are the child of the woman that I let die” let die? bitch you the one who killed her!
Tejing
Strictly speaking, he didn’t kill her. Gordan did that. But he captured her and turned her in knowing that the result would be torture followed by death, so I don’t see much difference, morally. Calling it “letting her die” is definitely an evasion of the truth.
Trepanning
And they kept calling her “witch”.

Kanako is dangerous… with the Oni-Chan roleplay. Too deadly.

thanks for the chapter
Dark Templar
So rereading this chapter, and all I can think of it that if Darcia ever becomes a goddess of any kind, it would be hilarious for her to literally become the Goddess of Magical Girls.
SuicidalSkeletin
Are we sure that Van isn’t turning into some sort of elder God? His vitality has reached almost 100 thousand, he has over four billion base mana, he can transform at will and just by being near him other organisms mutate and take forms that are more beneficial to him. And his true form is so obscure that it causes significant mental damage simply looking at him :/

What, didn´t Van receive skills from his dreams? Heinz actually made him stronger, LOL.
Vitor
Abyss skill for the win
Pannath
I don’t see what the issue for Darcia is. Jobs have tiers, higher tier jobs take more xp to increase. That is why people run into walls. All jobs give attribute bonuses and skills. She has super high stats and skills which led to so many jobs, and also a bunch of dungeons to train in. Darcia should choose all the low tier jobs, and knock them out of the way(which she could do at super speed). Every apprentice job, then move her way up. That way her skills improve, and she gets a bunch of attribute bonuses. Also some lower tier jobs are prerequisites for higher tier jobs.
Moridin
yeah, this is something I’ve thought that most C classers and above should do, just because they can get a breadth of minor boosts (skill growths and attributes) in a matter of days/weeks before moving on to the next job in their ‘focus’. And it gives chances for getting combined skills, which seem to always be better than the focused ones (though I can understand if it effectively is worse for that person because the combined skill would require more effort to level and the extras added to the skill wouldn’t be worth it to them… if it works that way).
Tempomancer9934
It s good if you’re goal is just becoming stronger without time constraint. But if you only have 1 week, would you rather max a low tier job (with only low tier skill and stat boost) or having a bit of level in a higher rank (which can create superior skill when you chose it) ? Time-wise, choosing higher rank job is the best as the can also unlock higher rank. For Darcia, if there wasn’t the 1 year “constraint”, she should choose low rank job. But for normal human, life is alwais under time constraint so choosing the higher rank job is the most efficient way to become stronger and for example earn enough money for whatever they want before they die.
unwanted child
so this strat is only good for elf’s than?
Chiu ChunLing
No, they’ve addressed this specifically.
Beginner type Jobs are easier to level, but you’ll still hit developmental walls and stop being able to level even if you just get a bunch of “Apprentice” Jobs…and you’ll end up far weaker than someone who progressed to advanced Jobs.
Also, beginner Jobs themselves are not generally prerequisites for other Jobs, people take a beginner Job to raise their stats and Skill levels high enough to qualify for more advanced Jobs. This mechanic is mentioned specifically in this chapter. If you already have the stats and Skill levels to qualify for an advanced Job, you can just skip the beginner job. We’ve also seen this looking at statuses of various characters with high stats, they often skip to Jobs that have “Apprentice” versions because they’ve gotten the necessary stats and Skills elsewhere.

I was rereading some of the earlier chapter and was wondering do cursed weapons. Such as nemesis George have ranks/experience or skills?
Hobbes
I believe so, but I think the author made a slight oversight there given that cursed armors like Saria and Rita are key characters. But I also think that aside from Nemesis George there haven’t been any notable or even named cursed weapon characters yet so the author hasn’t had the need to produce a status page for them.
MrCottonball
Ah yes, my favorite part of the demon king… the tumors
Hobbes
I just hope he doesn’t scare Izanami with them lol
She has dealt with enough tumors to last thousands of lifetimes

I see Van dreams going very badly for Heinz if the God start having him kill copies of his friends
Chiu ChunLing
He’s already been doing that. They’ve just been doing it on floors where Van doesn’t appear.

what would happen if he used the scream skill with the demon king’s lungs?

An explosion?

Scream would probably just become longer

Thanks for the chapter guys.
If Vida does get the “Goddess of magical girls” title, that’s a load off the shoulders of poor old Ricklent. Man’s been anxious about that since the transformation staffs were made.
ObserverBias
(Er, no, Darcia is the one likely to get that title, isn’t she?)
KingsLines
…Why does everyone dislike Heinz? I don’t get it.
rainyday
because he doesn’t know anything but operates like he knows everything even after they researched the champions when preparing for the trial of zakkart found out a bunch of stuff they didn’t know they still aren’t questioning anything else they think they “know” about the champions or anything else for that matter. Heinz operates like he’s in the right and justified in all his actions but he has so little baseless for it which is infuriating because he realized he was in the wrong after killing darcia but that’s the first and last time he’s shown any real introspection or skepticism of his own beliefs
ObserverBias
See, it’d be one thing if there was actually time to do something like that (which there isn’t). The things they learned don’t exactly conflict with what they already knew, which is why they’re not questioning it, yes? Again, we literally know more about the situation than anyone they directly deal with, and “free thought” does not equate to making the leap to “the god I’ve followed all my life is screwing over several races of peoples, as well as their gods, out of misinformation and spite.” They’re operating on what little knowledge they have, which isn’t the whole picture, which none but the gods and exceedingly long-lived races are likely to know, most of said long-lived being counted as “monsters.”
There’s no real way to operate on what you DON’T know, and what they’re most sure about is that Demon King fragments corrupt the persons they infest, and said people go on to kill other people until they are put down themselves.
MBA
I agree with what you say, but I shall add that: Schneider exists. So it’s not like it’s impossible to be disagreeable with Alda when you know his teachings.
It is a bother when someone suddenly decides that killing him because he has DK Fragments serves as atonement for his previous mistake, that’s beside the fact that Heinz already has a token Dhampir with him.
Imagine that when he arrived at Selen, the Noble Vampire Mother were to still be alive, so, would he kill the heretic vampire? Would he forcefully take the child from the vampire for the sake of ethics? Or would there be any chance of him actually helping the vampire without killing her?
Cendacyl
Okay, so there are a ton of reasons why I don’t like Heinz, but personally, I think the biggest reason I don’t like Heinz is: “Van doesn’t like Heinz. Van is always right. Therefore I don’t like Heinz.”
I know that’s kinda a dumb reason but that’s not actually the only reason I don’t like Heinz.
One thing that can be annoying is when Heinz makes a mistake. When he makes a mistake, he looks at his problem and either: 1.Feels bad about it for a while then says the god he believes in must’ve made a mistake, 2.Plays it off as his god arranging everything as if god doesn’t make mistakes, or 3.Make an assessment that can justify his actions.
In addition to this, Heinz’s judgement always somehow puts his mind at ease, never thinking or reflecting to deeply upon himself.
One last thing I will say. How huge is the number of Vida’s races he had to kill before he started to think, “wait a sec, maybe I shouldn’t be mass murdering these poor “monsters” who are screaming and crying while trying to protect their children more virtuously than a large portion of humans.” You know what I mean?
Honestly, if I were to make an analogy like I love to do, Heinz is even worse than a dimwit holding a gun would be in modern society.
Treze
Because it was made to be overbearing, taking different opinions of the Van
Just another account
Heinz is a giant hate target for me all the way from the beginning. He is definitely not really trying for atonement and definitely deserves to die many times. if Heinz really wanted atonement he would have tried to save Vandelieu or Darcia. We know that he “regretted” capturing Darcia and letting her burn to death but he could have at least tried to stop it or pray for her after her death if it was not possible. Maybe he did not “regret” enough yet but he could have been able to try and find Vandelieu. Seriously, he could have saved Vandelieu as soon as he “regretted” his actions. Or if he thought it was too late, he could have buried him but if he turned into an undead then he could have just done something to stop it. Instead he just “regretted” killing Vandelieu’s mother and set of on a journey for “atonement”. Also his “atonement” for “forgiveness” is to save other people of vida’s race but I think he does that as an excuse to make the Vandelieu feel guilty for hating him when he saved other people and force him to forgive Heinz.
SuprGofi
You have to read the hints given by the author about the darker side of adventurers to fully not like Heinz. Heinz and party are okay with killing anything that is “evil” including elders, children, Pregos and civilians(painted as monsters). Hence he is able to stab thru van a 10 year old child even with the demon king fragment.
Thunderclap is like the opposite of Heinz, he saw this disgust and became the “old man” hero we love .
The Bartender
Regarding Vandalieu’s race chance to Dhampir(Goddess), for those who are confused or don’t remember, the race inside the () is always the race of the non-vampire parent, which is Darcia who has (Theoretically) turned into a goddess, resulting in Vandalieu’s race change as well. Simply put, it lets others know that Vandalieu is the child of a Vampire and Goddess(?), not he himself being a goddess.
It does still raise a few questions, as when his race was Dhampir(Dark Elf), his lifespan was predicted to be 3000-5000 years, but now that his race is Dhampir(Goddess), will his lifespan be endless? As Gods and Goddesses don’t seem to have a limit to their lifespan and live forever, will it be the case for Vandalieu as well? There’s also taking into account his dad being a Vampire who would also have an endless lifespan, what will happen to Vandalieu? Our little boy may have just gotten a whole lot more terrifying is what I’m really trying to say, should my theory be correct.
NobleKei
Thats what i was wondering too. He probably did Just gain An Endless Lifespan tho.
Well, It just means he’s gonna get some more Racial Boosts and wont have to De-Age himself after every 3000 years or so.
The Bartender
Another thing I just recently thought of, a god/goddess gains power as they gain more believers and followers, and Darcia has all of Talosheim answers the other nations (technically) worshipping her, and should this be the case, how will that translate to Vandelieu? The direct child of a goddess? Will he also gain power or will he gain his mother’s Divine Protection and through that gain Moreno power as Darcia gains power.
Of course, I’ll have to wait before these questions are answered, but I think they will be, they’re pretty major questions.
Treze
It still has the fact that it has the divine protection of Van
Brainlet
good theory but a few chapters ago now he asked for divine protection from some of the evil gods and they said that it was like a rabbit giving protection to a tiger or something similar so i dont think that will be possible because vandalieu is more powerful than darcia at the moment
ObserverBias
Something else that means is that he is unlikely to become a god “at the end of his natural lifespan” if said lifespan is endless.
Makaayplays
But if his lifespan does end he is likely to be made into a God, specifically and/or probably the God of the Death Attribute by Vida. It seems unlikely that she would just make him a subordinate god or heroic spirit
The Bartender
Not only unlikely, but practically impossible. To become a subordinate god, only those with the same attribute as the god they are serving can become a subordinate god, however Vandalieu has no such attribute, so it is likely that he will become the god of Death Attribute.
However, whether or not he will actually govern the attribute and instead keep it for his own use is not entirely unlikely to happen, as he seems to know how dangerous it truly is, hence the careful use of it.
Of course, this is still all just theory, I’m at the edge of my seat just waiting for the next chapters to roll in.
Kuro-san
Vandalieu, The god of death and chaos.
– Death, because this is its attribute and querenco or not, death is part of life as the heat is part of the cold, both are two extremes of the same stick.
-Chaos, because all Love, Art, Knowledge, War, Craft, Creation, Magic, etc., comes from chaos. And all these are things van-sama has to spare because he loves the world and his companions, and is an excellent artist, craftsman, researcher, warrior, inventor, magician, etc.
Note: Justice is, in theory, a part of order.
Zakkart Útgarðr

Vaccaria
Thank you very much for the chapter.
Also, Heinz and Edgar are especially disgusting in that party.
Cendacyl
I saw a few comments about Heinz and kinda about flaws that could be seen in him. While I’m not trying to defend him (cuz I dun like him either) I feel like his idiocy is kinda overstated.
I mean, if you’re a police officer and you see someone holding an illegal weapon what are you gonna do? Are you just gonna let them go because you don’t know if they’re gonna kill people with it or not? I don’t think so.
What about if you see a kid you’ve talked to before running around holding a bomb or something?(disregarding how not-quite-right this analogy is) I would probably try to find a way to play it off as a toy or something. You can’t blame him for being in denial.(although, in the world that they live in, underestimating your opponent can be fatal)
All that as well as the fact that Vandalieu was still pretty overpowered already back then, and he has abilities and magic that have never been seen before. It’s no wonder that his party members thought it was too over the top to be real.
All this said, I don’t like Heinz. I’m pretty sure most people agree on that.
I really want to see Van take over the “ghost” of himself on the next floor he appears on and wreck Heinz and co. Perhaps he could even inflict psychological damage. Although, most of the psychological damage Heinz has taken has been self inflicted.
ObserverBias
Technically…
To your first point on police officers; in this day and age, mass media has the expectation that not only will one (as a police officer) shoot someone that has a weapon (regardless of what the person is actively being told to do or audibly stated they were about to do, like putting the weapon down), they will do it multiple times in quick succession and get out of the resulting legal kerfuffle scott free.
The kid and bomb thing… erm, no, that’s dangerous to try and play off any kind of way, isn’t it? If you see anyone of any age running around with anything convincingly weapon-esque, you’re at minimum obliged to inform people to get the heck out of the area and call someone trained to deal with this type of thing, at MOST try to defuse the situation yourself.
Started annoyed, then concerned, and at this point kind of repulsed by people’s insistence on making Heinz their focus of ire. Like, Van has that covered, y’all out here writing eulogies for the guy on chapters where his name isn’t even brought up, need to chill.
Cendacyl
Yeah, reading that through again, I’m not sure what I was thinking. Maybe I was too tired or something cuz my logic really sucked there. Although I do actually believe his idiocy is overstated, the reasons I gave are literally garbage. : P
Chiu ChunLing
Yeah, but joining the police force of an irrational totalitarian state with a genocide-centered ideology is already a bad decision.
Sure, as a high-ranking Gestapo officer, Heinz has an official duty to hunt down Jews hiding in attics and send them to Death Camps or execute them on the spot, and deal with resistance members as ‘terrorists’.
But that doesn’t mean it’s okay.
Hobbes
Quite an apt comparison my friend
Ace
I’ve read the raws and doods…….ITS ABOUT TO GO DOWN!!! Also Heinz next title he’ll get I personally love cuz I don’t like him.
Nguyen Tran Duong Hoang
What goes down? And what bout Heinz’s next title?
ObserverBias
Erm, iirc, spoilers were supposed to be a non-thing in the comment section for this series, so, uh, could we not go around actively hinting at them and asking for them?
Considering freedom of speech and the inherent desire of people to do so, there’s been a Discord server specifically made for discussion of them, you know?
K, thanks, bye.

He’s a goddess now? THE ULTIMATE TRAP
Kazza
Ooh. I smell a fight brewing. And it smells like splattered Ketchup.

That sounded better in my head.
Anyways, liked the chapter, but I’d really like to highlight a little moment. When they’re discussing Van and the possibility he has multiple DK fragments:
“And if the real him also possesses the Demon King’s fragments, multiple of them, then… we must defeat him, as we have done up until now.”
Even earlier Heinz says something similar, even declaring that even if he was Darcia’s child, he’ll end him.
Except, that wasn’t what happened last time they fought a fragment. They came across this giant nose thing, and Heinz, in a moment I really liked, tries to appeal to the man who was taken over.
But now, that’s out the window. Heinz, who once too the smallest of chances to try and help someone he never even knew, is now willing to kill, no questions asked, to someone who (as far as he knows) only uses the fragments. Someone who still might be sane and capable of discussion.
The Dungeon is changing him, slowly but surely. And none of them are noticing. No questions, hesitation, or even discussion. They’re becoming tin soldiers, just as Alda desired.
It’s a bit tragic, but at the same time really interesting. How far is Heinz willing to go for Alda’s approval? Will he forsake his atonement? What about Selen, who Alda has to demand be killed (otherwise Vida’s circle will not be destroyed), will Heinz, dulled after this grueling Dungeon even consider it? I would say a solid “no” before the dungeon, but now…
Anyway, just wanted to highlight a really subtle character shift.
ObserverBias
Except, y’know, the shift you’re noticing isn’t real.
Curatos even notes shortly afterward that they’re convincing themselves it isn’t exactly what it looks like, that it’s unlikely, improbable, that (a) the specific child they met several years ago has multiple DK fragments and (b) that child is aligned with the Purebreed Vampire trio (technically accurate), and (c) such a young person, WHATEVER their race, accrued enough life/combat experience to have skills and abilities only really considerable in legends.
Curatos is specifically trying to ham up Van’s “evilness” so they’ll commit to memory that he, specifically, “has to die,” but they’re committing to the idea that “it’s a coincidence,” specifically because Heinz CAN’T accept what he’s seeing, to the point that they got stuck on that level 10 times over because he couldn’t pull the trigger.
As for committing to kill someone “just because” they have a DK fragment, note the following, commit it to memory; to their knowledge, DK fragments have a ONE HUNDRED PERCENT corruption rate outside of turning the fragment itself into equipment, which in turn was, itself, banned as a practice despite it being a major boost to any users of such equipment. The one fragment Heinz tried to save was not exactly proof it could work, and the one fragment Schneider and Van tried to remove safely from its host was a lost cause; from either side of it and to the knowledge of the gods themselves, there’s NO SAVING someone that has been infested.
This, of course, is beside the fact that Van IS the new Demon King and (apparently?) no longer under the even 1% chance of being overridden by his parts.
To the knowledge of the MAJORITY POPULACE, the Demon King is straight-up evil, as proven by (1) historical accounts of Guduranis and (2) Demon King fragments taking over their hosts and rampaging. Van himself isn’t exactly proud that things have come to the point that the world system acknowledges him as the (new) Demon king outright, but is owning it as properly as he can, outside of (so far) blatantly stating to potential refugees “Yes, I am that Holy Son of Vida you heard about, but you know, I also recently became the Demon King, so make of that what you will.”
If anything, the dungeon is instilling the problematic mentality of “it’s not real so it’s fine” (which is the specific problem mentality Kaido Kanata was under), which, to an extent, they’re at least discussing with each other, but they’re also having to deal with losing fear of death due to all this time being “killed” without dying. Theoretically, shouldn’t they each have the Long-Distance Control skill Van got way back when?
In all probability? It’s possible someone has already made a move to have Selen killed, what with her guardian party away.
Kazza
I mean, no offense, but I just can’t agree with everything you’ve said. I agree that Heinz and Co. are not dead set on killing Van as their endgame, just passing the trial. My point was that they’re changing, and they’re not aware of it.
When I referenced the DK nose, I did it because it was perfectly in character for Heinz to do. He’s the Captain America/Superman of Lambda: Good because it’s the right thing to do. It’s his instinct to try and save someone, no matter how small the chance, instead of jumping to the kill.
But now he’s giving in to just doing what the trial says. As you said, he couldn’t pull the trigger the first ten times they fought Van, but now he can. I think Curatos’s plan is working. I don’t think they’ve 100 percent changed into say, another Gordan, but they are coming closer and closer to what Alda wants.
Secondly, I don’t think it’s true that DK fragments have a 100 percent Enroachment rate. Both Terenicia (who they fought personally) and Gubamon have held on to their fragments for thousands of years, but it was only when they began using them in desperation that the Enroachment started leveling up. They can still speak, even if it is impossible to remove them without killing the host. So, I don’t think it would be unreasonable for Heinz to assume there is room for discussion with someone who uses them.
I honestly think we’re on the same page on what Heinz, as a character, should do. I believe he is a good person, a true hero, and his atonement is genuine. I just think he keeps making the same mistake by always doing, never thinking. And that mistake is going to cost him, because he’s now on a crash course with a being he can’t fight, who has a death wish for him. Unless he can see things from Van’s view, which neither Curatos nor Van will really let him see, he’ll never be ready.
Finally, I thought that Selen would be in danger too, now that the Blades are gone, but it’s been months inside the trial and the author hasn’t come back to her. So, either she’s still fine with whatshisface, or possibly kidnapped for leverage… Maybe? I doubt the author would kill her off-screen. She’s one of the Blades with the most potential.
PS: I hope this doesn’t sound petty, but what do you mean by Van working with the Purebreeds as technically accurate. He hates all three of them, and two have already had their souls destroyed by his own hands. If you mean their subordinates, every one Van brought over are loyal to him due to his charm. If you mean the Purebreeds in the Boundary Range, they haven’t left since Vida’s sealing, so I doubt they’ve done anything to earn notoriety in Amid/Orbaume.
ObserverBias
Ternecia and Gubamon made a point to not use those pieces often Because of the encroachment rate; up to the point where they made moves, they were these “untouchable” Purebreed Vampires that pulled strings from the shadows for thousands of years; it’s unlikely they ever had to seriously use those pieces for an amount of time, besides which, they Really shouldn’t count against it corrupting people’s natures, as they were corrupt to begin with. They, being such shadowy antagonistic individuals, spite room for discussion by nature.
Moreover, his attempt with the nose did fail, as did Vandalieu’s efforts with the lungs. If he maintained the stance of trying to reason with Demon King fragments, even Inside a trial specifically designed to strengthen him and his party (with Curatos puppeting “Vandalieu” and Van himself mentally present), I’m more than certain people would still be deriding him for making he attempt, given Vandalieu would not likely move from his “I’ll kill ya” stance.
I think specifically because a passing thought was given to her in this chapter, Selen is in danger at the least. Her guardians have been in a dungeon for how long? And she’s supposed to be being watched over by followers of the party? Unless they’re skilled themselves, they’re not going to hold out against a riled up force of people stirred to action by whatever suspicion they can come up with.
They were already doing what the trial said to do (the key thing that held them back in Zakkart’s Trial), just, now it’s “personal” because Vandalieu is tangentially involved with their training. And that’s kind of where I was going with them adopting the “it’s not real, so it’s fine mantra.
As for the last thing, I was referencing that they believe none of the three things to be likely, and they’re accurate in that Van Is Not on the side of the Purebreed Vampire Trio. It’s like, two truths and a lie, but they decided all three were lies, and were right about that specific one.
Chiu ChunLing
It’s not really a character shift.
In the incident where they sealed the DK nose, Heinz was just posturing to look cool. He had zero intention of letting the guy go if he suddenly deactivated the fragment and said “Oh, I’m fine, my DK Encroachment Skill isn’t maxed out, I just needed to use the DK frag to escape this Devil’s Nest after my buddies all left without me.”
What do you think Heinz would say in that (admittedly unlikely but theoretically possible) event?
“Oh, fine. I’ll just let someone with a DK fragment walk into town and vouch to the guards that you’ve got it under control.”
Lol.
Heinz is basically incapable of being honest with himself, he’s always super-focused on looking good without any serious concern for actually being good.
In a word, he’s a poser.
And that’s all he’s really doing when he pretends he doesn’t know exactly why Van is appearing in this special training dungeon, or when he ‘prays’ that the reality is ‘different’. It’s all just to look like a nice guy, the truth is that he knows that the reason he’s there is to train to kill Van and that the god he worships wants Van dead no matter what. He even says so.
The girls in the party are better at playing along with this stupid act because they get that looking good is totally important especially when you don’t care about actually being good.

A big thank you for our sponsors, and to Yoshi and co. for providing the translation.
Poor Vandalieu. Even in his dreams, Heinz is being a self-righteous ass.

I’m psyked for when Van goes to re-register in Orbaume, and Curatos gets another look at his skills and progress.
I can see it now! Alda and Curatos just looking at Van’s Character Sheet and their jaws just hit the FLOOR!! They then mumble under their breaths
“Just what…what the…what THE HELL IS HE!?!?!?!”
and Curatos just thinking If I add this to the trial I dont think Hienz will ever pass…
KingsLines
That wouldn’t happen though? It’s only the adventurers guild that shows the skills upon registering, and it was already said Van will probably go for the commerce guild in order to avoid that.
tigerpro1
Curators is the God of records and is directly connected to any information that all of the guild has. As long as one believer of alda and has seen it. And that is guaranteed to happen if van wants to register at the guild. Unless van convert the entire guild branch into believers of vida before he registers.
KingsLines
As I said, nobody would see the information in the first place. *Nobody*
The commerce guild doesn’t check his skills. The adventuring guild doesn’t either if he is already registered at another guild.
Cendacyl
Although the commerce guild thing is right, I think that since the guilds in Orbaume aren’t completely Vida worshipping, if the person looking at the information were to be someone worshipping Alda, then he would be able to see it.
KingsLines
But where would they get the information in the first place?
Just another account
The commerce guild does not require showing the status of the person. I think it was something like bringing a product that could be sold and then they get the permission to sell it or something like that. The three options ( of what I could remember) is that you need to go to an adventurer school but that would waste many years, register and have all of your stats shown to the guild that you registered in or already be accepted by another guild

Good luck struggling with outdated Van-sama while Van-sama observed your current strength

Abyss is a really mean skill xD even if the dungeon-van is only a copy, it’s still made from curatos-looking-into-van. Alda’s side really needs to step up their counter-intelligence

Chapter 99
【Abyss】
A unique skill that represents that the skill owner is not one who peers into an abyss, but the abyss to be peered into.
The one who possesses this skill has no need to worry about becoming a monstrosity when fighting other monstrosities. That is something that the one fighting the skill’s possessor should fear.
Hobbes
What are you saying? They already are acting counter to any minute level of intelligence…

Hmm i just wanna put on attentio nthat we migth get a A Vandaleu-chan than kun since it legits says Dhampir (Godess)
Nobody2
That refers to his mother being a goddess now. It used to be damphir (dark elf)
readerX
Is the source thing in Darcia’s race made her goddess or is it demi-goddess?
The Bartender
For the moment, I’m pretty sure we can assume that she is a full goddess until proven otherwise, as she was directly created via Vidas blood, theoretically making them sisters rather then mother daughter, and as her last body was burned before, her dark elf heritage has been nearly completely overridden, only staying due to her soul and memories, yet mixing these together doesn’t seem to have made a half-half product, instead turning her into a new type of elf, becoming the founder of a new species, and due to Vida’s blood, she’s the goddess of that new species.
Cendacyl
I think that Darcia is a bit different from a full fledged goddess or a demi-goddess. Being the incarnation of Vida, I think it might be better to view her as a divine vessel. That might not make too much sense though.
Decaf [Invidia]
Ayy. Kanako has transformed from the idol type to the elder sister type? Looks like the onii-chan virus might have a second outbreak if Darcia becomes the goddess of magical girls.

Funky K
Thanks for the Chapter!! …and Death 2 Heinz. So~ what stood out for me in this chapter is the “Labyrinth of Sin” mentioned by the idiot of records. I guess this means that Bellwood isn’t at the bottom the dungeon that Heinz is in but in a different one. Also is the “Evil god of sinful chains” that beat bellwood on Vida’s side or on the demon kings side?
Iv’e been interested in the other Evil gods who haven’t made an appearance yet. Back in CHAPTER 36 they mention that Hihiryushukaka is a subordinate god of the “Evil God of Distortion” and there are other big shot evil gods out there. The story has also mention that the evil gods that Van has killed so far were small fry that Guduranis didn’t mind because they were weak and even that Idiot of Release was a small fry who got stronger but was still originally a weakling.
So~ anyway, where are all these “Big shot Evil Gods” and when will they make an appearance in the story? I’ve been looking forward to (or rather hoping!!) that Guduranis gets revived and things turn into a 3 way Free For All between all three factions with some reincarnations mixed in!!!
Thanks again for the Great translations Yoshi !!!!
KingsLines
Fact-wise, it was already said that Guduranis cannot be revived. As unlike with other people, for Van the fragments are absorbed into his soul, and thus cannot be separated. No fragments = No revival.
It wasn’t mentioned which side the “Evil God of Sinful Chains” was on, but I would guess the evil-god side. If he was on the side of Vida, he would have been holed up on the mountain range like the rest of them.
Past that, I’m just guessing here, but the big-shot gods were most likely killed during the war as they would be at the frontlines. The weaker gods are the ones who survived cause they could have run away and nobody paid them enough attention. Though there are most likely some exceptions.
Nobody2
Well no technically Guduranis could still revive but none of the prices in van would leave him so he’d have to make do with whatever van hasn’t taken
rainyday
he’d be lacking parts of his soul and memories that were given to rodcorte but if all the fragments had come together without van they’d have been pretty dangerous regardless
The Bartender
Actually no, in order for him to be revived he needs ALL his fragments, but Vandelieu made it impossible as soon as he absorbed one fragment, as the fragments themselves see Vandelieu as the demon king, not Guduranis, which makes it now impossible for Guduranis to be revived, regardless if even all the fragments that Vandelieu has yet to absorb comes together to make one.
In fact, should such a thing happen, all fragments now see Vandelieu as the main body, so instead of half-reviving the “Demon King” Guduranis, they would completely forget him and work to becoming one with the “Demon King” Vandelieu.
Guroga
Well Curatos 65th floor will indeed hold a surprise.
I’m surprised Darcia mama got Van’s curses too.
readerX
It’s clearly stating that she didn’t have Van’s curses. “unlike Vandalieu, she did not bear the ‘Cannot learn existing Jobs’ curse.”
The Bartender
You seem to be confused, the character description on this page I simply VAndelieu, not Darcia, who does not have Vandelieu’s curses as they were engraved into his soul, which he does not share with Darcia, who has her own soul.
I believe Darcia’s character description is in the short story, the chapter behind this one.
tigerpro1
I believe she was just trying to use jobs that van has access to before he does. So she doesn’t cause him to be weaker in the long run. She will probably take the jobs van can learn only after he learns them.
HyuRin Askha
heinz still as naive like usual to think he tried to think van as an allied kinda funny so i think
OwO) oh and thanks for the chapter so i report
it was delicious so i declare
rainyday
they did intend to help van register as an adventurer, so with how little they know it makes enough sense. They’re not always stupid in regard to lots of stuff they just don’t know any better
The Bartender
So I think
So I report
So I declare
Query, is that a reference to The Rise Of The Shield Hero?
Onto more relevant matters, what Rainy said is true, Heinz and co didn’t not know any better as to who Vandelieu truly was and still do not, though the dungeon is now trying to show him that Vandelieu is Indeed the enemy, he is currently in denial, it cannot be chalked up to naivety, but a simple unexpected turn of events that’s too major to be easily believed.
Phantom Knight
Thanks for the chapter!!!!! Vandalieu-sama actually managed to do some suppressive training?!!! That is….. awesome, and I knew it was the [Abyss] skill as soon as I confirmed that the body was in the Trial of Bellwood.
He is not only getting help in leveling up his mysterious [Abyss] skill now, but with the job change finally into the [Soul Warrior] job, he can get back to improving his martial skills. He might even be able to awaken his [Unarmed Fighting Technique] into a superior skill soon. However, I can only hope they show more cool moves from the techniques, since Vandalieu-sama literally made no special moves for the Artillery Technique that affects the barrel at least, like barrel whip, something to help withstand recoil, something to indirectly curse the bullet, something to strengthen the barrel, or other such moves……Sigh, oh well.
As for Heinz, I think he should really try not to fall into the denial of Truth like his companions. The clone gave a very realistic last words that even shook him. At that point, he needs to either summon his Heroic Spirit to see how they feel about the real Vandalieu-sama or set his goal to asking Alda about Van-sama.
His friends can act stupid all they want, but Heinz shouldn’t follow their pace. He knows that things might have gotten tricky with his idea of redemption. He just has to admit it and find some way to deal with it before Alda screws him over.
Silkerin
I hope her magical girl outfit is like sophias from ffxiv XD and the head is the familiar from Van XD
rainyday
I think she’s going to get a maho shoujo guider job when she starts her idol activities and give guidance bonuses to her fans, as well as the other magical girls that’ll let them be more ridiculous like actually magical girls from anime with OP skills and abilities that’ll require poses and such
Ramtin
Name: Vandalieu Zakkart
Race: Dhampir (Goddess) <—– pretty sure this is suppose to be god not a goddess.
Age: 11 years old
rainyday
nope it references his mom’s race, it used to say dark elf. Dhampir implies half vampire the race in quotes denotes the non-vampire parents race
Oshibo
His mother is the Goddess Incarnation so it is Goddess. it usually goes Dhampir (Non-vampire parent race).
Mangydog1
Heinz is learning about Van’s old powers and techniques, while Van is learning about Heinz’s current strength and fighting style. I think Heinz will be in for a sad surprise when he and Van finally face off.
Kiriaru
Definitely, and it’ll happen again when/if they get to the 65th floor. The difference between the Van in the dungeon and the real Van will be even greater as well I’m sure.
rainyday
the one on the 65th floor is the latest records they have from when he fought the snake whip guy ervine of the 15 evil crusher blades or whatever so it’s at least better reference because that’s after he fought that release evil god and got a bunch of fragments from the boundary range gods
ReaverXIII
That also depends on how long it takes them to reach floor 65 and assumes that van doesn’t have another significant increase in power before that time
wai311040
65th floor Van-sama is about ch151, compared to his current status and I already see no hope for Heinz.
And Van-sama still have more time to grow before Heinz get to 65th floor!?
The Bartender
I feel like Vandelieu will take control of his fake form on the 65th floor and one of two scenaria’s will happen, should this be the case:
1. THey will talk it out and new info will be revealed to both sides (This may be while fighting, before a fight or after a fight)
2. Vandelieu will be enraged and under the impression that it’s merely a dream and so will attempt to kill Heinz ans his companions ruthlessly, until they eventually beat him which will cause them to be even tougher to fight in the real world.
Oh, there’s also a surprise third option:
3. Vandelieu will use his no-attribute spell “Hollow Cannon” (I believe that’s the correct one) in order to, not only break the rules and physics of the dungeon, but to forevermore kill Heinz ans his companions via an unending coma, due to their conscience being destroyed with their fake bodies. (This could cause Selen to become the next Heinz on a quest to kill Vandelieu with the same burning rage that Vandelieu has for Heinz who he unknowingly ‘killed’)
The third option Ismail least likely to happen however, as it would be too convenient for vandelieu Andy an abrupt, sudden end for the hero Heinz, who hasn’t been a relevant story character since the very start of the novel.
tigerpro1
He struggles with a van who stats were around 1000 each. (Excluding mana and vitality) Now his stats have nearly sextuple. I see no hope for Heinz. Who stats are lower than van. Who’s gaining a new jobs every couple chapters. So the difference will just keep growing. And there’s the insects, plants, and undead too. One of which is his former party member. So PTSD for the win. Also he missing info on a few fragments.
Armorpiercer
did he just get a motherfucking level-up while sleeping? oh my god
Heinz, you have a choice between become mayonnaise or ketchup
Xignum
That’s not his choice to make.Van is calling the shots
Unlimitedpower
hes already ketchup though?
Hobbes
I’d say he’s paste either way…
GashBello
Thanks for another chapter.
Diggydawg
So merely conjuring Van’s likeness will attract his “unconscious” attention, It won’t be long before he can be summoned by stating “Vandalieu” five times in front of a mirror.
Xias
I think that has to do with him slowly obtaining “divinity”.
The gods can connect to statues of themselves after all.
So if someone creates a projection of Vandalieu in order to simulate Vandalieu doing something then that might be the same as for the gods someone making a statue of them to use it in a ceremony or such things.
And the more detailed and connected something the stronger / easier the “gods” can see and experience those things.
So with Curatos making a very detailed projection with the intention of reflecting Vandalieu in front of Heinz and his group a link to Vandalieu’s spirit / soul has been created and so Vandalieu sees those actions.
Now we just gotta wait and hope for Vandalieu to improve his ability to respond to that link and then we might get to see Vandalieu “hijacking” the projection of himself on the 65th floor.
Then he will mess up Curatos’s trial completely.
XD
Maybe he can even catch Curatos as the one who created that illusion trial.
After all Curatos watches Heinz and his group.
So if Vandalieu takes over the projection of himself then Curatos watching the battle will also watch Vandalieu at that moment and as such Vandalieu’s Abyss skill should activate and make Curatos visible to Vandalieu.
rainyday
no isn’t it just that “abyss” skill that let him see the reincarnators when they were looking at him from rodcorte’s divine realm? Curatos is looking at Van’s records so the skill lets him peer back at them through the abyss
Yeetus Supreme
From what I remember, the “Abyss” skill allows him to see anyone and anything that looks at him, and the fact that he’s getting incredibly close to divinity, it can be said that even statues of him are letting him view absolutely everything. Though I could be wrong.
rainyday
I think the skill is just vague enough to have broad effects, heinz looking into his past records from curatos power meets the condition for the skill so van gets to look back at heinz from the copy
Cendacyl
I think that the triggering of the abyss skill has a lot to do with the fact that the fake Van was created from records and made into a “ghost” of the original. Kind of since the recreation of Vandalieu was too real the abyss skill triggered I guess.

All of that hero wannabe team are idiots. Complete idiots.

That’s wrong though, heinz has 2 new members on his team. THat wouldn’t be atonement to them
