After turning the ‘Five-headed Snake’ Ervine into Experience Points, Vandalieu took the fatally-wounded Iris to the place she needed to go to in order to be reborn. And upon returning to Talosheim, he entered the Job-changing room with unsteady steps.
Iris’s vital organs had been wounded by the holy sword Nemesis Bell; she had been in a state where she would have died within half an hour if Vandalieu hadn’t maintained the Death Delay spell on her.
She would be turned into a member of one of Vida’s races other than Vampires, using the reconstruction of her body during her transformation and her increased Vitality and healing abilities after her transformation in order to heal her.
Vandalieu had gone through a lot of effort to take her to the place to carry out the ritual, such as using Out-of-body Experience and then the Materialization Skill on the spirit form wings to take the form of a strange bird, and preparing the necessary amount of Mana.
“… I’m sleepy,” Vandalieu murmured.
The time it had taken was a bigger problem than the work he’d needed to do.
There wasn’t a target that Legion could designate for teleportation at the place where the ritual would take place, and Vandalieu hadn’t created a Dungeon there yet either, so he’d been forced to fly there which had taken a long time. In addition to that, the ritual hadn’t been conducted in a long time, so time had needed to be taken to gather the necessary tools and check the correct procedures.
Persuading the other party to cooperate with him hadn’t taken very long at all, shortening the process considerably, but even so, it was still harsh on Vandalieu.
It was fortunate that he had been able to use the time the journey took to break the seal on the Demon King equipment to acquire the Demon King’s antennae.
“I can use the Status Effect Resistance Skill to endure my sleepiness, but just because I can endure it doesn’t mean it’s not hard on me. But I have to do this task soon, so… before that, I’ll get my Job-change while I’m at it.”
He had received a considerable amount of Experience Points from Ervine, who had dealt the final blow to the ‘Insect Swarm’ Bebeckett. With the other Experience Points that he had gained by watching the ‘King Slayer’ Sleygar, the ‘Light-speed Sword’ Rickert and the members of the Hilt, Vandalieu’s Demon King User Job had reached Level 100.
As expected of a man who could have aspired to reach S-class and his companions.
It was fortunate that Vandalieu could gain Experience Points by watching battles through the Demon King’s eyes, just like he could with his own eyes.
“Well, I’ll eat them after I get information from them… my Attribute Values and Skills increased from eating Ravovifard, the evil god of release, but I didn’t gain his memories, so it will probably be fine. Leaving that aside…”
As Vandalieu slapped his hand on the crystal ball, the Jobs that he could change to were displayed inside his head.
『Jobs that can be selected:【Disease Demon】【Spirit Warrior】【Whip Tongue Calamity】【Vengeful Berserker】【Dead Spirit Mage】【Dark Healer】【Labyrinth Creator】【Magic Cannoneer】【Dark King Mage】【Divine Enemy】【Dark Guider】【Creation Guider】【Fallen Warrior】【Insect Nin】【Destruction Guider】』
“Yes, there’s a new one.”
Destruction Guider… from its name, wasn’t it a bad guidance? It sounded like he would lead others to all kinds of destruction.
“Maybe it’s because I’ve been breaking and eating souls… well, for now, I’ll select Dark Guider.”
The Danger Sense: Death spell made sure that he knew when someone was aiming for his head, but regardless of that, Sleygar’s movements had been too quick for him to deal with.
He’d noticed it the moment before it happened, but before he could move his body or cast a spell, Sleygar had appeared from behind him and performed a single slash with his specialized weapon… His specialized weapon was made of Orichalcum and that single attack had contained a lot of power, so even an instantly-cast barrier would likely have been futile, however.
If it wasn’t Vandalieu whose head had been cut off then, the target would have died in an instant.
It was Sleygar’s Artifact and superior Skill that had made that incredible speed possible. He had superhuman physical abilities.
It was unlikely that there were many assassins as skilled as Sleygar, but the number of such assassins would not be zero. So, what needed to be done was…
“First of all, I need to train myself to have physical strength equivalent to Sleygar’s.”
This wasn’t a problem that could be resolved easily, so Vandalieu would simply continue training steadily until he found an effective solution.

“Hmm, now that I look at it like this, my Attribute Values have increased as well. My Vitality is close to 10,000, and my Agility had gone above 1,000. I have my Skills as well, so as I am now, I might be able to win a fight against an average B-class adventurer in hand-to-hand combat without using magic.”
Of course, in the end, he couldn’t deal with Sleygar’s speed.
Even if he had about two billion Mana, he couldn’t forget that he could still die.
“More importantly, Guidance: Dark Demon Path and Dark Demon Path Enticement… the previous Skill names made it sound like I would guide living people to death, so I’m glad that it changed.”
TLN: The word for “Demon Path” can also mean “netherworld,” so the previous Skill names sounded like he would guide/entice people into the netherworld.
Did this mean that he had more targets that he could guide and entice? Well, he would probably find out soon.
“For now, the task ahead comes first. First, I need to smash the head before Iris is reborn.”
Duke Marme was spending the afternoon in a carefree manner in his office at the occupying army’s headquarters.
Because one of the problems that had been a constant source of trouble for him ever since he took this position in the Sauron region would be solved.
“It was humiliating to lower my head to Marshukzarl, but… it was a small price to pay.”
Duke Marme had lowered his head to Marshukzarl, his cousin who was also his political enemy, asking for the ‘Light-speed Sword’ Rickert and other members of the Fifteen Evil-breaking Swords to be dispatched.
And they had arrived yesterday. The one Duke Marme had seen and exchanged pleasantries with was Rickert Amid, someone who was an honorary noble with no land but a duke nonetheless, and, more importantly, a relative. But there should have been others with him, keeping themselves hidden.
And in the same day, Rickert had gone in the direction of the former Scylla territory that was now haunted by the resistance, along with the other hidden Fifteen Evil-breaking Swords.
The fort on the boundary of the former Scylla territory… had been attacked and destroyed by a swarm of Undead the previous year, so soldiers were stationed in a hastily-built temporary fort. According to their reports, there had been numerous bright flashes of light, explosions and the thundering noises of trees being destroyed coming from deep within the former Scylla territory, and they had even seen pillars of light descending from the sky on three occasions, signs that familiar spirits had been summoned… The accounts also said that two of those pillars of light had unnaturally disappeared, but that was probably just their imaginations.
“Hmph, I suppose we will need to have a party to celebrate Rickert and his companions’ victory. Let’s entertain the soldiers as well. No, I suppose showing the Princess Knight’s head to the foolish commoners comes first,” Duke Marme murmured to himself.
Having received such reports, he was certain in the victory of Rickert and his companions. He had no doubt that the foolish resistance that had gotten carried away would be exterminated, and that the heads of the little girl who called herself the Princess Knight and the traitor, Baron Ragdew, would be brought in front of him.
He was sitting here in the army’s headquarters just in case, but that was so that he could thank Rickert and his companions for their hard work personally as the top figure of the army, once they returned after finishing their mission. If he did that, Rickert and Marshukzarl’s impressions of him would at least improve a little.
This incident had caused his political influence to decrease, but he should be able to suppress that by appealing to the fact that he was a member of the same family of the emperor and the hero.
If possible, he would have liked to capture the Princess Knight alive and execute her by burning her at the stake in front of the people, but unlike Cuoco, a traitorous nobleman of the Amid Empire, the Princess Knight was apparently a young girl. It would be problematic if he executed her like that and this was used as a persuasion point by other rebellion movements.
And since he was the one who had asked for the Fifteen Evil-breaking Swords to be dispatched, he wouldn’t be allowed to do anything that would darken the reputation of the ‘Light-speed Sword.’ He would have to resist his urges and settle for just making a display of the severed heads. As for Baron Ragdew’s family, he would make an exception and spare them… though he would have them enter priesthood, separate them from the rest of the world and then have them die of ‘disease’ later when the opportunity arose.
Drunk on his feelings of joy, Duke Marme gulped down the contents of his glass. “Bring the next bottle of wine. If possible, something better than this one,” he ordered his attendant behind him without turning around.
“Here you are,” said the high-pitched, quiet voice of a child as a cup filled with red wine was offered to him.
“Hmm, a pleasant scent – w-who are you?! A child, no, those eyes are those of a… Dhampir?! Why is there a Dhampir here?!” Duke Marme exclaimed, jumping back in astonishment.
Vandalieu, who had two horns of the Demon King growing from his forehead, looked up at the man in his late middle-age years with an expression of confusion. “Oh, he doesn’t know about me? … Ah, this guy wasn’t told about me, was he?”
“This guy, you say?! You bastard, I am a duke, and there is a limit to how much disrespect I will tolerate! You filthy Dhampir, even if you are a child, I will not forgive you!” Duke Marme turned to face the doorway, red with anger. “What are you doing, soldiers! Execute this insolent child!” he shouted.
He shouted, but nobody came.
“W-why? Why is nobody coming? Where are the soldiers that are supposed to be in front of the room? Where are my knights?!”
“Where are they? I’ve either killed them or captured them alive. Well, I used Deodorization to stop the smell of blood from reaching this room, so I can’t blame you for not noticing, though. Even this antenna wouldn’t be able to detect it, after all,” said Vandalieu.
“Killed–?! Don’t be preposterous! Unlike the soldiers of this area, the capable soldiers that I brought with me –”
The door opened while Duke Marme was mid-sentence, and a black Goblin, a man made entirely of bare flesh and a spearman with patches all over his body that was clearly an Undead at first glance entered the room.
“King, we’ve killed everyone except for the ones you said not to!” said the Black Goblin Braga.
“Working on my own for the first time in so long actually makes me restless,” said Ghost, who had temporarily separated himself from Legion.
“Borkus and the others were complaining that the fort is too small,” said Mikhail.
Each of them had their weapons in one hand and several decapitated heads in the other.
The heads were those of Duke Marme’s knights and officers.
“H-HYIH?! Monsters and Undead?!” Duke Marme turned pale and fell backwards onto his back.
Vandalieu simply stared at him. “The soldiers you employed locally, your servants and the list of people that Cuoco provided have been spared. That might not matter to you at all, though.”
So Vandalieu said, but it seemed that this really didn’t matter to Duke Marme. With the crotch of his extravagant clothes becoming drenched, he tried to crawl away from Vandalieu.
“Y-you bastard, could you be the Dhampir that’s supposed to be on the other side of the Boundary Mountain Range?! Th-that’s… how did you get past the headquarters’ defenses?! And how did nobody in my army notice you leading an army across the Boundary Mountain Range in the first place?!” he shouted.
Duke Marme finally realized that the Dhampir before his eyes was the same one that he had tried to hire the S-class adventurer Schneider to exterminate after the Mirg shield-nation’s expedition army returned as Undead.
“We secretly crossed the mountain range, snuck into the inside of the fort and then dealt with everyone by persuading them or through force,” Vandalieu explained.
Legion’s Teleportation had been used to cross the Boundary Mountain Range, and the Dark King Magic spell Blind Spot, Ghost’s power and the ninja techniques of Braga and the other Black Goblin Ninjas had been used to infiltrate the fort. After that, Vandalieu had released insects as well as Mikhail and the rest of the Undead.
Using force to kill and capture targets. The ‘capable soldiers’ mentioned by Duke Marme had been no match for Mikhail and the others. The more fortunate targets were the ones whose severed heads were being held.
The locally-hired soldiers and non-combatant servants had been brainwashed by the Mental Encroachment Skill and made to go outside.
“Ervine… or maybe it was Rickert? You probably let down your guard because you firmly believed that they would win, but that made things easy for me. If your defenses had been tight as usual, I might have needed to use rougher methods,” Vandalieu said in a matter-of-fact tone.
Even though this was the army’s headquarters, it wasn’t as if every soldier was stationed in a single building. Vandalieu’s forces had infiltrated and eliminated enemies swiftly and quietly, so the soldiers on the same premises but in separate buildings still weren’t aware of the situation.
If those soldiers in the other buildings had maintained a system so that they would immediately notice anything unusual, things would have been a little different.
Duke Marme was speechless for a moment, but then quickly returned to his senses. “W-wait! I surrender, I surrender! What are you after?! Is it fame in the Orbaume Kingdom?! Whatever it might be, I should be able to help you with it! I’m Duke Marme, someone with a claim to the emperor’s throne!”
He was aware of his own value. Whatever else might be said of him, he was a duke. If he was brought to the Orbaume Kingdom, he could be exchanged for a large sum of reward money, and if hostage negotiations were carried out with the empire, even more money could be gained.
He was overestimating his own value a little, but those with the position of duke were worth more than just their abilities.
“Even if you kill me here, Marshukzarl won’t give a damn! In fact, he might use this to begin an all-out war. You should take me captive and treat me with honor –”
“Yes, as you’re hoping, I intend to capture you alive rather than kill you,” said Vandalieu.
Duke Marme breathed a sigh of relief, but it was too early for that. Vandalieu’s tongue peeked out from between his lips.
“Demon King’s proboscis.”
A long, thin proboscis like that of a butterfly extended from the tip of his red tongue.
“W-what is that?! What are you – GYAH?!”
With a speed too fast to be seen by the eye, the proboscis stabbed into Duke Marme’s chest.
“This is a proboscis. The mouth organ of insects such as butterflies,” said Vandalieu.
“You bastard… you said you’d capture me alive…”
From the sensation of his tongue and limbs gradually becoming unable to move, Duke Marme had mistakenly assumed that his blood would be sucked and he would die.
“You’re mistaken if you thought I’m sucking your blood,” said Vandalieu. “In fact, I’m injecting anesthesia… a paralyzing venom secreted from my tongue into you.”
Why are you doing that?! thought Duke Marme, who had no intention of resisting, as he opened his eyes wide in shock. He saw a woman with a collar appear behind Mikhail and approach him.
She grabbed the duke’s hair roughly and forced him to face upwards.
“IGEH?! W-wha are hyuu doinh?!” Duke Marme shouted, protesting with inarticulate words.
Isla ignored him, unsheathed her favorite knife and licked its blade with her purple tongue. “Will we deal with him here?” she asked her master.
“Yes, I’ve paralyzed him so he won’t die from the shock. We’ll be taking him back as a prisoner… as an experimental subject, but we still need to make a proper declaration of war.”
Today was the last day that anyone would see the duke’s face ever again, including Vandalieu and Duke Marme himself.
Around the time the occupying army’s headquarters became a stage for a tragedy, there was a man with his face hidden, running.
The man had predicted that the army would be in a situation of crisis right about now. He even thought it was possible that every single soldier would be wiped out. However, he hadn’t spoken a single word to warn them. He had prioritized returning home without even approaching the headquarters.
My duty is to return with information, nothing else!
The man, the only member of the Hilt to have survived because he had been hiding in a faraway place right from the beginning without getting involved with the battle at all, simply made haste to reach his destination.
The Divine Realm of Alda, the god of law and fate, was filled with the panicked clamoring of the gods.
There were some who had originally been humans, but now that they had become gods, they did not lose their composure easily. It was not common for them to be in dismay and lose their senses.
But the scenes that could be seen through the records of the ‘Five-headed Snake’ Ervine and the ‘Light-speed Sword’ Rickert were more than enough to strike the gods into a whirlpool of chaos.
“What in the world is that?! This can no longer be called a human!”
“Just how many fragments of the Demon King does he… and yet, his mind is not consumed by them! Is he an incarnation of the Demon King?!”
“More importantly, the destruction of two of Niltark-dono’s familiar spirits is a grave matter! Even if they were familiar spirits made of Mana with no minds of their own, how abominable it is that as a mortal, he can destroy servants of a god…!”
How unsightly, thought Fitun, the god of thunderclouds, as he looked upon his brethren with a cool gaze.
The reincarnated individual that he had taken in, the ‘Marionette’ Hajime Inui, knew that Vandalieu had absorbed multiple fragments of the Demon King and wielded them like they were parts of his own body. Fitun had been surprised upon learning that Vandalieu had considerably more fragments than he had heard before, but he wasn’t flustered by this.
As for the destruction of familiar spirits, which were servants of gods, Fitun felt contempt towards the gods whose faces had turned pale at this thought.
War is a series of battles to the death to begin with. The thrill is there because there is the chance that you will be killed. What did these guys expect when their boss said, “This is a time of war against the remnants of the Demon King’s army and Vida’s faction?”
Fitun was a heroic god and a god of war; he didn’t expect the others to quiver in anticipation like him. But they were still gods; shouldn’t they be more composed?
“Everyone, calm yourselves! A new sinner… a new fiend has been born in our world. That is all this means!” said Niltark, the god of judgment.
His tone was brazen; he showed no signs of discomposure despite having had his familiar spirits destroyed and his followers’ souls taken from him.
Of course, to begin with, one of his followers was the kind of person who would use familiar spirits as sacrificial pawns… No, considering Niltark, I suppose he approved of it, thinking it was a necessary sacrifice. The broken familiar spirits were puppets, after all, Fitun thought as he killed time.
Meanwhile, Mill, the goddess of slumber, and Nineroad, the heroic god of wind who was also Fitun’s superior, were trying to calm the other gods down, but the chaos wasn’t really dying down.
It seemed that the gods who had experienced fighting the army led by the Demon King Guduranis were deeply shaken. It was likely that their past traumas had resurfaced.
When I look at them like this, gods are no different from humans. Oh, damn.
Being the only one to remain quiet and calm, he had ended up standing out.
“Fitun, do you have some thoughts about this matter?” asked Nineroad, having taken notice of him.
The other gods’ eyes focused on Fitun as well.
He couldn’t honestly tell them what he had been thinking, but replying with, “I’m just standing here quietly” was too foolish as well.
Fitun decided to give a response that would be expected of him. “This is not really worthy of being called a ‘thought,’ but for now, it is just that he can use over ten fragments and break souls, is it not? And though you say he can destroy the servants of gods, what he destroyed were merely defenseless familiar spirits as they were descending,” he said. “With that being the case, I thought that there are all kinds of methods available to us.”
Several enraged gods began berating Fitun.
“Merely familiar spirits, you say?! How dare you say that in front of Niltark-dono!”
“You are a mere lowly member here! Do you even understand how serious this situation is?!”
But their master Alda spoke, causing them to fall silent and step back. “What methods do you speak of?” Alda asked.
“As I am a junior member, I don’t have any particularly great methods, but… I think it would be good to raise a champion like my master Nineroad, multiple of them if possible, give them Artifacts like Nemesis Bell or pieces of Demon King equipment that can face the Demon King’s fragments, and then break that Dhampir’s entire body to destroy him completely. After that, we just need to seal his remains and soul along with the Demon King’s fragments,” said Fitun, describing his thoughts in depth.
If one ignored the point of ‘multiple of them if possible,’ it was an exact outline of the plan that he was putting into action using Hajime.
The gods unanimously argued against Fitun’s suggestion.
“Such foolish… a method that is impossible outside of theory!”
“It is easier said than done. Fitun-dono, if such a thing was possible in the real world, none of us would be suffering like this. We would have won the war against the remnants of the Demon King’s army and Vida’s faction long ago.”
Indeed, that was how difficult… impossible, the method suggested by Fitun was.
There was not much difference between it and a plan for world conquest thought of by a playing child. Selecting those with desirable qualities and granting them divine protections was possible. Unlike Demon King equipment, giving them Artifacts was a little difficult, but not impossible.
But whether the heroes raised this way would be able to stand on even grounds with the champions of the past was another matter entirely.
Even if divine protections were given to them to speed up their development and increase their potential, they couldn’t grow stronger infinitely. It wasn’t just a matter of their qualities. There were flaws that could only be seen during events experienced during the development process and after they had already gained power.
Being gods didn’t mean they knew everything. The reality was that there were many candidates to become heroes who would not even reach the heights reached by Ervine, whom Vandalieu had defeated a few days ago.
I don’t need to be told that. It’s more fun to actually attempt something if you’re unsure whether it’s possible or not… These peace-loving fools.
A fight to the death against an enemy that could kill you. It was only natural that it was difficult to prepare to win a battle where you would lose everything if defeated.
“Yes, I apologize for my imprudent speech,” Fitun said without speaking these inner thoughts, trying to step back.
But it was none other than Alda himself who spoke, changing the atmosphere completely. “No, it is exactly as you say,” he said. “A Dhampir who does not die even if decapitated, who does not lose himself to the Demon King’s fragments despite having absorbed over a dozen of them, who casts spells that none have ever seen before, who misleads people’s hearts and commands a multitude of subordinates. It is a being that cannot exist outside of theory, a being straight out of a delusion. That is the kind of enemy we are forced to fight. Ordinary methods will not do. No matter how difficult it is, we must do everything we can to carry out a method that is impossible outside of theory. I will give a trial to the hero who is my follower, the ‘Blue-flamed Sword’ Heinz, and his companions. After that, I shall grant him power and use him to carry out this method that is impossible outside of theory. The rest of you, find your own candidates to become heroes and raise them.”
This decision caused unrest among the gods once more, but this time, it was a positive unrest with the idea that they could defeat the Dhampir since Alda himself was taking the initiative.
Training Heinz… Kukukuh, that will not happen so quickly. During that time, I will thoroughly strengthen Hajime.
It would become a competition of who could kill Vandalieu first. With a feeling of enjoyment, Fitun struggled to contain his laughter.
On the other hand, Alda’s mind was filled with distress.
It seems that Nineroad has started to realize. Hasn’t Fitun realized it as well? The most problematic… difference between Vandalieu and the Demon King Guduranis.
The Demon King Guduranis had tried to destroy every living creature and god that had existed in this world from the beginning. The monsters he created, even the superior monsters, had been nothing but pawns to him, and he had mercilessly destroyed the subordinates that were his evil gods if they disobeyed him or proved to be useless.
This allowed every living being in this world to focus their strength into fighting him. Thanks to the champion Zakkart, it had even been possible to make enemies betray the Demon King.
Even when one considered the fact that this was the age of the gods, an era when the gods ruled over the people directly, that was how much of a threat the Demon King had been.
But Vandalieu was different. He was not an invader, an enemy to the entire world.
He protected those who served him equally, whether they were monsters like Undead, humans or members of Vida’s races, and considered it only natural to bring about peace. He did try to destroy those he saw as enemies, but there was no doubting that there were clear standards that he had set for himself.
And those standards were difficult to describe as harsh in this world.
In other words, Vandalieu was nothing more than another person ruling a nation in this world.
… It was just that his goals, his methods of achieving them and his sense of values were in absolute conflict with Alda and the gods who served him.
But for the humans who lived in Lambda, that wasn’t the case. In fact, Vandalieu had taken in the people of the cultivation villages in the Hartner Duchy and those from the Sauron Liberation Front.
From Alda’s point of view, it was difficult to believe, but Vandalieu was not a being like Guduranis, a being that the people of the world needed to set aside their differences to join forces, concentrate their power and stand up against.
Then it seems that I must carry out the reconciliation with Vida’s races that Nineroad suggested. By doing that, I can prevent Vandalieu from becoming the leader of Vida’s races as a whole.
Like the humans, those of Vida’s races were not aware of the gods’ circumstances. That was why there were quite a lot of people living in human societies who worshipped Alda and the gods who supported him.
Thus, he had to do as Rodcorte had said, destroying Vida’s circle of transmigration system and moving the souls of the members of Vida’s races to Rodcorte’s system.
But the requirement of this is to have Vida fall from her position as goddess. Even if that were to succeed, we can only take those among Vida’s races that did not originate from repulsive beings, such as the Titans and Beast-people.
There was a time when the gods needed to fight the remnants of the Demon King’s army until Ricklent and Zuruwarn, the last two remaining great gods, could be resurrected. During this time, having lost her sanity from the sorrow of losing her own champion, Vida had incited the evil gods who were supposed to have changed sides and deceived the insane Zantark, spreading new chaos and disaster across the world. But even so, to Alda, Vida was just a sister who had gone down the wrong path.
But she had led the world together with him, bringing her opinions against his since they were born. Alda could not deny this, nor did he intend to.
That was why he had defeated Vida a hundred thousand years ago, hoping that she would regain her sanity at the end of her long slumber.
And now, in order to save half of the children that she had given birth to in her madness, he would have to drive her from her position as a goddess and have the rest of them be treated purely like monsters.
It wasn’t that he felt no hesitation or guilt over this.
“But I suppose I must carry this out. Going back, everything originated from my lack of power that prevented me from cutting down the roots of all of Vida’s races and protecting the world’s order. But Bellwood, my champion… I pray from the bottom of my heart that you awake from your soon-approaching encounter with Heinz.”
If Bellwood were still active now, Farmaun would not have performed the mad act of leaving with his subordinates to return to Zantark’s side, Alda thought regretfully, hoping that Bellwood’s awakening would return Farmaun’s sanity.

The ‘Light-speed Sword’ Rickert Amid. In the beginning, he gained experience and piled up achievements like a knight should. Taking up the holy sword Nemesis Bell as he polished his talent in swordsmanship, he was appointed as a member of the Fifteen Evil-breaking Swords.
He was generally someone who displayed his true value by fighting directly on the frontlines, and as a knight, his ability to command and lead troops was only a little above average.
Also, as he specialized in swordsmanship, his defensive abilities were lacking. But the swing of his Nemesis Bell, with the enhanced physical strength and agility from his Passive Skills, is not at all inferior to that of an A-class adventurer.
His abilities were equivalent to those possessed by the ‘Sword King’ Borkus while he was alive. If one factors in his equipment, his Nemesis Bell and the other precious Magic Items that he was equipped with, such as his item bag, he surpassed Borkus.

Ervine, the ‘Five-headed Snake’ of the Fifteen Evil-breaking Swords. A veteran among the members, he was a capable individual who possessed such ability that he could have aimed for promotion to S-class if he were an adventurer. His strength and loyalty were so trusted that he was given a piece of the dangerous Demon King equipment.
He came from the same settlement as Marshukzarl’s mother, the Elf concubine of the previous emperor, and this connection had brought him into the service of the Amid Empire.
He possesses an affinity for five attributes, but his talent with them was not particularly exceptional; he prioritized his skills with a whip and techniques as a spy, for which he did have talent for. He turned his eyes towards magic when he felt that he had reached the limit of what could be done through combat techniques alone. Thus, he was not adept at using magic other than enchantments for his armor and weapons such as his whip.
He possessed power roughly equal to that possessed by the ‘Divine Spear of Ice’ Mikhail while he was alive.
【Demon King User】
A Job that can be acquired by one who can harbor the Demon King’s fragments without having their mind absorbed by them, but instead absorb them and use them as a part of themselves.
Those who possess fragments while having the Demon King Encroachment Degree Skill, and those who possess Demon King equipment, cannot acquire this Job. This is because those who possess Demon King equipment are simply able to use the fragments as weapons due to the seals on them rather than absorbing them and using them as a part of themselves.
OK Alda, just die 😒😒😒🔪. So in order to “save” Vida’s children you must kill the ones who don’t please your blinded assshole eyes and destitute Vida again of her rights and her divinity then “offer” the rest of her children to the system of Rotcortex? 🤔🤔🤔Shinei ☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️👿👿👿
Then it seems that I must carry out the reconciliation with Vida’s races that Nineroad suggested. By doing that, I can prevent Vandalieu from becoming the leader of Vida’s races as a whole.
You are late for that Alda, a hundred thousand years late at that… the only path is your demise, B*TCH!!
oooh i wonder what there gonna turn iris into
These motherf*ckers’ getting on my nerves!
Evil-breaking swords: *tries to kill Vandalieu’s friend
Vandalieu: *fought back
Niltark: “Everyone, calm yourselves! A new sinner… a new fiend has been born in our world. That is all this means!”
This f*cker remind me of f*ck up school system when the bullied kid fights back to his/her bully is wrong as well for fighting back.
But even so, to Alda, Vida was just a sister who had gone down the wrong path.
Huh… So it okay to impaled your sibling with multiple stakes as well as steal her authority for going down the wrong path?
By his distorted “law”, yes, by the rest of the creation, hell nope
The “impaled” part is a spoiler, I think. And yeah, that line is infuriating knowing that. If Rodcorte is “merely” an idiot, Alda is a horrible hypocrite.
Grotesque Mind: Level 9
Van is becoming something that madman would call mad…Wait, he already had, it’s just worsening
I’m calling it now, Bellwood the trash hero will be one of the final bosses vandalieu will face later.
I still can’t believe how foolish and oblivious the gods in this story are.
I wouldn’t say that something tells me just like what his buddy the heroic god of fire did he’s going to wake up and realize he made a big mistake just like he did
Why do you sound surprised these were the gods that were inspired by Bellwood so of course they would be foolish and oblivious
Well if Bellwood is one of the final bosses, I want to see him eat his soul with an “itadakimasu” like for the evil god! But I reeeaaally want him to suffer deeply for all what he has done and all the bad influence he had on people, on gods, on the entire world ! I really want him to pay 👿👿👿👿. When I think about him and about Alda, I turn into someone with grotesque mind level 100
Bruh 1 thing i dont get y did elf whip dude able to destroy the carapace and 2 other fragments when his whip wasnt a fragment but an equipment which is sealed meaningg not full power?!
Cause he was using it with a Superior attack Skill while Van was defending using a basic defense Skill. On the other hand, he could only use it as a whip, while Van could do all kinds of different things with each of his Fragments, like combining the Eyes and Luminescent Organs into a freaking laser, which was awesome.
He wasn’t harnessing the whip’s full power but he himself is strong af
Maybe【Dark Healer】would have helped somehow to heal Iris, but he took the guider…
Nemesis Bell remember it wasn’t going to help either way
Man, he reached 2 billion mana fast.

its hard to know this meaning of fusion
alda: hey fitun whats your opinion?
fitun: well i just think-
other gods: WRONG
Yeah, well if they were good at using their minds to begin with, they would never have been in this kind of predicaments😑😒😒😒.
Today again, an unsuccessful meeting at the Alda company. The stiff and strict mood has always been the trade-mark of the company, along with an exceedinly rigid hierarchy. But the countless beratings and preaching have been exhausting many employees lately, ever since the company has been facing severe concurrence issues. The CEO is very traditionnal and as such always a few thousands of years late for his time. As they only employ people with the same conservative mindset and muscle-brain adrenalin-rush-seekers, the company has been on a steady decline. Furthermore, they remain unaware of their cooperators thoughts and disdain their rivals who strive even through thoug times. In recent years, all levels of management have been stricken by chronic panic attacks and the future seems to indicate either the complete disapearence of the company or the assimilation to their concurrent with all the high-level administrators being erased.
💯💯💯👏👏👏👏👏I liiiiike the Alda’s company scenario 👌👌😂😂😂❤️❤️❤️ it was perfect and funny thanks a lot for the free laughter time! I was so pissed off about Alda and his minions but this cooled me
God how I hate Alda…
Alda: Anyone who isn’t on my side are insane! I’m the God of law and my words are truth!
Like… Bro, how about you consider making peace? Any more and you’ll be making an ENTIRE CONTINENT go to war! And it isn’t like you need to follow Rodcorte’s will at all no?
god does it piss anyone else off that when fitun suggests a plan or thought he gets called foolish or reminded that he’s a “lower” god but then alda goes “wait thats a good plan” then everyone says he is so wise and awesome and scramble to their knees to suck hes dick and asshole clean, i swear this is why hes gonna lose, he cant get any subordinates that can think for themselves and the ones that do are probably not gonna stay
hopefully near the end of this novel he realizes he fucked up and becomes broken inside because holy fuck
Ok so I’m rereading and I got to say the language I use here is really vulgar but it still sends me through the fucking wall whenever I get to the annual ‘call futun a dipshit’ meeting, serly they ASK him what’s on his mind and not wanting to cause trouble (in their eyes) says something somewhat reasonable and gets yelled at! If this is how you get treated here for having opinions then I’m not surprised the gold person up and left, man got himself a union so he can work comfortable
Yeah getting beaten up by everyone 100 times feels better than having to stay with those dumbass
“And now, in order to save half of the children that she had given birth to in her madness, he would have to drive her from her position as a goddess and have the rest of them be treated purely like monsters.”
Ok so… On the pretenses of saving half of her children she will die and the rest will be hunted to extinction… Logic
Yeah, even though they could’ve simply not fought, but well
Alda is a problem and so is Bellwood.
More like both are cancers and they multiply with each other to form more cancer like thinking.
Now i can understand why Vida given “children” to the evil gods, to integrate them in Lambda and a attain a purpose, now they have responsability with they children, if not they would be perambulate with no objective, maybe become desperate and do evil again
Exactly, she gave them a purpose, something similar to the original gods with humans, elves and dwarves, their own mortal children who needed to be taken care of
“Then it seems that I must carry out the reconciliation with Vida’s races that Nineroad suggested. By doing that, I can prevent Vandalieu from becoming the leader of Vida’s races as a whole.”
haha, good one, Alda! looking forward to the next joke, maybe one about Rodcorte earnestly apologizing for everything he’s done? XD
damn, I hope it’ll be a fight between Van, Alda and Vida later on. I hope van won’t get controlled by Vida.
thanks for the chapter
Considering that Vida put her sould in jeapordy to try counteract Rodcorte’s curses, whilst Alda will kill him simply for being alive, it’s a little… stupid, to assume at the moment that Vandalieu should fight her as well.
More than a little. I have to question whether he read the same novel I did…
Polynesianvibez i told you before but know i think you will be hate along with UnknownSaint11 and Disappointed.
Hope you are happy.
Errr…nope, since the side chapter we know that Vida is on Van’s side, why would she fight him??
Vida doesn’t control people she ain’t alda
now, in order to save half of the children that she had given birth to in her madness, he would have to drive her from her position as a goddess and have the rest of them be treated purely like monsters.
She was quite mad indeed. I cannot help but agree. If we put aside for a moment that she was a goddess all of this seems to come out of an h-story
1. Gone insane after her champion died and mated with as many people as possible( this sounds like straight out of h-manga)
2. Didn’t allow her champion to rest in piece and mated even with his corpse( this is too much both literally and figuratively)
3. Mated with the evil God of tentacles(who didn’t even have a gender to begin with. Can’t help reminiscent of the anime witches and tentacles)
4. Mated with a geezer who had lost his sanity (Zantark)
5. Etc, etc, etc…….
In the future….
yup, as one of radicals said it earlier in the story, “she’s a slut”. If Van’s circumstances of misfortune were different and he was reincarnated as a human with cheats in Lambda, I’d bet van would side with Alda and exterminate Vida and her spawn. I seriously doubt whether these so called “gods” are actual gods in a sense.
If Van’s circumstances were different he will not be Van, just another person with other experiences, memories, and power. So it doesn’t apply here
Calling her a slut is disrespectful because she didn’t do it out of sexual desire but her duty as a goddess and the fact that her domain was love and life probably make it so that creating new races was her idea of forming new order. The fact is in this case Alda is wrong. The new races did not bring chaos. What brought chaos was how his faction of people treated them. It is never a crime for existing because if it was then Van who is a half-dark elven dhamphir is horrendous sinner for being born.
Have you seen earth gods like literally read anything about them…
Have you heard of the pope that was so horrible that they had to close all information about him as possible.
Have you heard of most wars have started by religion beliefs and religions conflicts.
Nah I think he’ll be someone like sneider
Are you guys reading the same novel? It has been stated multiple times that Vida didnt do this out of sexual desire, she is seen like this by the mortals and as a maniac by Alda because they simply cannot understand that her duty as a goddess of life is to make life prosper as much as she can, she gave birth to new and stronger races not so she could fulfill her fetishes, it was so she could fill the dying world with strong and intelligent beings that could take care of it and also protect the humans, elves and dwarves. She gave the evil gods that stayed in lambda a new purpose to take care of the beloved children they have created, without this purpose, they would had roamed endlessly and probably done bad deeds again, while being chased endlessly by the other gods.
i think they are skimming through the chapters and only reading parts where van shows off his power or complains about how a old 300 yr old non virgin is in van’s harem kinda sad tbh
Exce0t that she dint even have to really have sexual relations, she had children with tiamat that is also a womem she used her power of life do give birth to children, using power of life conbined of power of the other gods to simple created new races just like they do it in beginning, was mention that humans, dwars and elves are created by the gods, and even if she was what blame the races born from her children are innocent, why should they be exterminated? Just because they apparence are diferent? The evil gods are ones that help save the world by fighting agaist Demon King even Alda admit they could only win because they betrayed the demon king and fight alongside them, so Vida give them a purpose and attachment in this world to really integrate them to the gods society of Lambda and they prove theyr loyalty even after 100000 years still following Vida after her defeat, insted of become like the rest of the remnant of the demon king army that still causing chaos untiĺ now. Nesides Riclent god of magic and time a zuruwan the god of space and and creation, both think that Alda action are crazy that is why they support Vida, so i dont dee why you seem them a abominations. Altought Vida was desperate and acting impusivaly she only did what she thought was best for the world by having races that could survive in the new dificult environment, so what in this action are crazy, Alda simply whanted that everithyng go his way and only his way
[Today was the last day that anyone would see the duke’s face ever again, including Vandalieu and Duke Marme himself.]
So, neither side even remembers his face. Not even the Duke himself
[How unsightly, thought Fitun, the god of thunderclouds, as he looked upon his brethren with a cool gaze]
I will not call him stupid, unlike these cowards, Fitun can actual think and is fine with the thought of himself dying in glorious combat against a great foe would be a great end for himself.
He has balls, clearly has a dislike for Alda and his dumb followers, even he does not look down on Vandalieu.
Someone like that is alright in my book, so long boundaries are not cross.
Fitun: Suggest a Plan
Dumb Gods: That Stupid!
Alda: No, its actually a good plan
Dumb Gods: Whoo! YEAH!
I think the implication is that they literally removed his face hence noone will ever see the face again.
Don’t know how you guys do it, but kudos to you all for being able to write out a whole paragraph and basically make side stories in the comment section
One thing I never seem to see people mentioning is that Alda, along with Rodcorte are extremely arrogant.
Alda is an authoritarian who believes that his way is the only way, and that all else is wrong. He believes that his way of doing things is superior to all else, and will not listen to criticism until he is backed into a corner as he is now, and even then only slightly. He wants to impose his order on the world of Lambda and has stated in the past that he does not want civilization to grow in numbers or advance in technology too much as it would make it difficult for him to impose order on the world.
We also see this in his chosen champion Bellwood, who would not hear anything that conflicted with his world view and shouted it down. He and Alda’s alignments of their world views created a feedback loop where they kept affirming each other’s opinions and prevented criticism, making it even worse.
Rodcorte’s arrogance is clearly displayed whenever something doesn’t go as planned with his development plan. He views the people he reincarnated as tools to do his will, whatever it is. The most obvious is when he expects Van to just commit suicide like he ordered, as if he were just trying to fix a computer program that stopped responding by killing its process. He’s been isolated for too long dealing with peoples souls simply as information that goes through his system which he just needs to reset and send off for the next round.
To begin with, the a existence of God of Law and Order in a world like Lambda is clearly a conflict in of itself. The world is chaotic by nature, as subjects and circumstances grow, chaos does with them and so order is diminished.
I suspect that Alda and his divinity far too mismatched to manage a world that has gone through the invasion of foreign Gods, a civil war of Gods and the influence of too advanced technologies all at once. He needed to attempt to achieve peaceful negotiations and mutual understanding before he decided to take action, but his arrogance didn’t allow him to see the big picture, ironic for a God. He only thought of his own opinion as valid and discredited his own sister as having gone insane.
As if that wasn’t enough, we now know that Bellwood is an extremely dangerous character that incites others and twists them to his will by feeding them things that they want to hear, making even the Gods his puppets as he wanted to perpetuate the state of the world as it was, even disallowing the normal development it would take by individuals doing their part in the advancement of knowledge. He completely ignored the need of the people, if he was still active he would be putting the world in danger by his actions, as Farmaun Gold has said.
At this point any actions they take is ending up biting their own tails in frustration. In my opinion the only true Gods this World has to offer is Vida and faction. They stayed true to their needed roles as Gods for the betterment of the World and even the former Demon King’s Army Members ended up contributing to the development of new species and habitats. Although from a stuck up Alda’s point of view they performed mass corruption of the World’s citizens and even blasphemy as they created more “monsters”
I’d love to see Heinz actually defy a recently reawakened Bellwood or Alda face to face or even outright deny the offer to become a heroic spirit as if to say “fuck you you’re just wrong”.
People do seems to notice how arrogant they are but they probably assume it was normal?, I mean they are God after all. people are just focusing on how idiotic and foolish they are maybe?.
They are God but it does not makr them free of charge to not be blamed.
I think van should create a small version of job change crystal and take it with every fight
It wouldn’t work. This issue is fleshed out more in later chapters, but suffice it to say the crystal isn’t enough. It’s the entire ‘job changing room’ that makes a job change possible.
Reconcile with vida’s races? Does he really think that’s going to work, After the way he treated them? Alda is absolutely insane, this is like Hitler telling the Jews “i’ll Acknowledge you as human beings if you join my army and fight off the people who are trying to save you”.
I couldn’t have summed it up better myself lol. This quote shows exactly how disconnected from reality Alda is:
“Then it seems that I must carry out the reconciliation with Vida’s races that Nineroad suggested. By doing that, I can prevent Vandalieu from becoming the leader of Vida’s races as a whole.”
He seriously thinks just because he choosing now not to exterminate them and treat them like demons will win them over after 100,000 years of genocide, disenfranchisement, and all manner of crimes unjustly targeting them. It’s an amazing feat of mental contortion to stick his head that far up his ass.
the kind of mental gymnastics he had to perform to get that idea is truly astonishing, on par with antivaxxers and trump supporters
Keep the politics out of here. But antivaxers and flat-earthers are this kind of special people
The terrible thing is that he’s not even insane, he acknowledges himself that Van has a more compassionate, just, and attractive morality that will appeal to more people.
He’s trading purely on superficial appearances because Vandalieu accepts ‘disgusting’ means and beings openly rather than covertly.
Imagined Van shows Alda what hitler did and them question him why Hitler was wrong and a evil being as he likes to say and them show how hypocrite he is even do he is a God he is worse than a normal human being.
Your right and at this point it’s far too late to reconcile with Vida’s Race let alone Vida. But what really gets under my skin is how he thinks that Vandalieu would rule over Vida’s Race as a whole and miss leading people hearts. It just fascinates me how short-sighted he really is. Just because Vandalieu goals, his methods of achieving them and his sense of values were different from how Alda and his Gods do things should not be considered evil but rather more approachable.
Welp of course to Alda, it is Farmaun who has gone insane the same way Vida went insane, basically if you’re thinking doesn’t align with Alda you must be mad. Even if Alda would succeed in his plans, Vida would just be pissed off when she recovered enough strength to talk with Alda.
Alda is insane and desperate. He has been since he fought against Vida. It’s just that he was already a hypocritical, conservative-minded, self-righteous ass before and those qualities have become his defining traits over time as he’s been cornered. Just wait until everyone other than those he’s brainwashed turn against him. In his mind the whole world will have gone mad and he’ll be the only sane one left.
He lost self-control during Lamda had only 2 Great God still active.
He said He and Vida always argured because they’re sense of value was different and other God will claim both of them down.
Both Alda and Vida weren’t wrong but Alda is worse, his action is too much Radical (D*mn Bellwood JUST used his extremely ideal)
The god of order is really a moron if he stated right from the start the Beast man Titans and Dark Eldar are equals he’d have a much easier time of implementing his plan now. Thanks for the chapter on a good story
Alda wish to reconcile with Vida’s races in order to stop Van from becoming some kind of King for all of them…
Should we tell him that it’s already too late for that since Van is officially the emperor of the vast majority of all of Vida’s races ?
Paradoxe : Nah, let him feel despair a while longer ! ^^
I find it rather despicable that Alda only considers reconciling with Vida now of all times when it’s most convenient for himself as opposed to any other time in the past 100,000 years. Of course we all know that’s certainly not going to happen since Vandalieu is literally Vida’s champion at this point, being part Zakkart and given her fortune at birth. (even though the fortune doesn’t pop up in the Status)
Vandalieu has horns growing out of his head now ? Tho it’s honestly one of the LEAST weird thing he’s done with his body lately
those were antennas, this sentence proves it
“Where are they? I’ve either killed them or captured them alive. Well, I used Deodorization to stop the smell of blood from reaching this room, so I can’t blame you for not noticing, though. Even this antenna wouldn’t be able to detect it, after all,” said Vandalieu.
It’s just a temporary look. Vandalieu usually tests new Demon King fragments that he acquires, sometimes in rather comical ways. Prime example was after he got the Demon King’s Horns from Ternecia, he used them to pretend to be a goat/Capricorn and swam in water.
Some of this is because the Author (justifiably really) doesn’t want to spend the time to build all this into short use characters, but how people of Lamda use the job system seems broken. I get not being a min-maxer exactly, and certainly more understandable for shorter lived humans, but Ervine is a perfect example. He’s 249 years old, but only has 16 active skills and 9 passives and 10 jobs. How come he doesn’t have another dozen or two lvl 1 – 3 skills he’s picked up over the years? Like cooking. Or housework, training, brewing? … Fester has fishing 1, Ervine never managed to have any hobbies in 250 years? A smattering of low tier jobs that he could’ve knocked out in days once he was a ‘b class or better adventurer’ just for some quick, if minor, boosts to attributes and skills?
And as for a weird lack of skills, Ervine at least has them, but every adventurer after D class should have at least unlocked Unarmed & Throwing, even if not a primary path they are going (what happens if you drop your weapon, just going to suck at throwing a punch and fail to give yourself an extra few seconds to get back your weapon). Riley & Mikhail for example had Throwing at least, but nothing in Unarmed. And he’s the only listed so far with ‘Training’, which seems weird. Also, wouldn’t you want to at least have Detect Traps (or Traps) 1 if going into dungeons. Etc etc
Also, they almost never have jobs that didn’t feed to their job they had when we finally see their status. We heard how fast Zadris and the Ghouls go through their apprentice level tier 1 jobs once they had access to the job changing room, and that was when they were ranks 4-6. While I wouldn’t think once some d-ranker that completed a low-tier job would go for a parallel or slightly lower tier job instead of going onto the next tier up, surely for example, taking a few/several months in-between going from t4->t5 jobs (that took you a couple of years+ and will take you a decade+ max out) to take care of all the low, easy tier jobs you have access to would be useful? Give a quick, minor boost to some attributes and increasing the breadth of skills earned and skill growth boost (though, we don’t know, i believe, if skill growth is additive or not. Aka is it growth*sum(all boosts) or growth*max(all boosts) for a skill?). Shouldn’t every warrior that has at least 1 level of magic take apprentice mage at least? Quick boost to intelligence that most warrior jobs don’t boost well? Every mage get a staff or unarmed or whatever fighting 1 skill and take a quick low level warrior job to boost vitality, strength and agility? etc etc.
Martial skills use mana too, you’d think that the better warriors A-class and up, would’ve taken up the apprentice mage at some point to better utilize their martial skills by having more mana and a high INT stat to pull them off, not to mention it would give them insight against magic-user enemies.
That’s not really a thought process that would occur to people who were living in this as their lives rather than a game. Even for elves, why spend time in jobs you have no talent for when most people aiming for the heights of power would ally themselves with others with similar sense of values and skills in place that cover your deficiencies? Why go for a low rank mage job to increase mana and the number of martial arts you can use when you could take a high rank warrior job and not only increase the power of those skills more quickly, but also gain use of even stronger skills? It’s also stated a high skill level reduces mana consumption. We don’t really have exact measurements in regards to this and more importantly neither do they. Not to mention most will focus on what they enjoy. And even those who specialize typically wind up with jobs like “Magic Axe User” which likely gives fair bonuses to mana and intelligence. It’s been stated talent has an effect on stat growth as well, so even if they take a low level mage job, someone with no talent for magic whatsoever might not get their time’s worth out of it. It’s best to remember the residents of Talosheim aren’t exactly good examples of the average leveling experience even before Vandileau became a guider. This wound up kind of jumbled as I kind of wrote things as they came to me, but it was fun to think about, so thanks for that.
Riley and Mikhail having Throwing is cause they’re both Spear users, probably. It’s questionable whether what you suggested would be worth doing, especially for someone already powerful. Keep in mind Vandalieu and his companions are far from the norm. I’d expect for anyone else that attempts to copy Van, they’d end up facing experience walls more frequently.
Poor little Alda, he thinks he’s the sane one, and Bellwood the one who restores sanity; when his own internal monologue is completely hypocritical.
He is living his his own bubble but little by little is falling to the spike that is Van and it will be a blessing when it pops.
To be honest, I agree with you that the story is making Alda a bit too unreasonably evil, but I do think there is enough nuance to make it interesting.
Pardon my rant, but to me the story serves as an exploration of the destruction that happens when you have one person with all the power. Rodcorte and Alda are both the main gods in power. They foil each other, but they also foil Vida.
Alda is convinced he is right; he is Justice. Of course he would, because everyone he listens to says as such, and those who don’t are below him in authority (i.e. Farmaun). The only person of similar authority who disagreed with him is currently sealed by his own hand.
Rodcorte is self-serving, but shove all else he is overconfident. He puts plans into motion, but then just… Leaves it alone. Accidentally reincarnates someone without a destiny or cheat? You could just send a message saying to go get them, but… Eh, it’ll probably work out. Oh it didn’t, and he’s pissed at you and all 100 other reincarnates? Guess you can have him kill himself if you curse him, right. There’s that done, now… Wait, he can destroy souls? Assassin! There we gooooooh, shit.
And of course he keeps making the same mistake. He literally created an automatic system to reincarnate souls, detaching him completely from any work he needs to do. Because he is above all of it.
And despite showing her in a positive light, there are several things that indicate Vida’s “plan” wasn’t nearly as foolproof as her races want it to be. You’ve got several defects on her species (infertility in ghouls, weakness to sun/silver for vampires, one gender for certain races, requiring other species for reproduction), and I’m sure there are more unmentioned. This indicates she was more focused on creating the races, instead of making sure they were actually helpful for Lambda.
All three of them believe they are right, and put these plans into motion and end up causing harm. While we look at Vida positively now, what would be the results of her races if she wasn’t sealed? Would her circle go out of control? Would she create a Superman Race of invincible people, who may not take her teachings to heart?
In the end, these three have all committed the same “sin” as it were: Pursuing their ambitions despite what it may do to others. Yet, Vida is sympathetic, unlike Alda and Rodcorte, because she is unjustly punished. Alda and Rodcorte got away with their sins, but Karma’s a beautiful trap, and her(?) name rhymes with Bandalieu.
That, above all else, makes me really excited for what happens after the upcoming war. Will Vida realize her mistake? She looks back with regret she and Also could not compromise, but so did Alda. Will Van make the same mistake? He seems to love, trust and respect his followers, but will that always be there case when he ascends to godhood?
…TL;DR: Yeah, Alda is painted pretty badly, but that’s because he won. The author seems to have something to say about a single person in power, or lusting after said position (Bellwood, Gudurandis, and Birkyne serve as lesser examples) leading to destruction.
If divine Waifu Vida won, it’s arguable whether or not she wouldn’t end up making similar mistakes. Maybe Van would be working under our wonderful divine Husbando Alda.
I don’t think it’s just a matter of who won and who lost. The biggest difference between Alda’s side and Vida’s side that I see is the difference between imposing one’s own will onto the world vs. simply living in it. Even Heinz, who has some positive ideological differences from Alda, has the same problem of thinking he has to make the whole world look and work the way he thinks it should. There’s an inherent arrogance in this approach to life, and it does not serve as a good background from which to do things like admit one’s own mistakes. Van, by contrast, doesn’t care much what other people do or think as long as they don’t hurt him or the people he cares about, and he’s capable of realizing that attitudes and approaches he’s taken in the past were wrong and learning from those mistakes (for example, his realization that he had been high on his power and revenge when he escaped the research facility. As he states, “there was something wrong with me then”).
Yup yup you spelled out one of the main themes very well
1.Vida was s focused on creating the races because there were only a small amount of people left in Lambda. It is also a possibility that these defects were caused by errors in her circle. Though Her distrust was partly responsible for her fight against Alda after the demon King scattered the souls of 4 champions.
2. Rodcorte was just a dumbass.
3. And Alda thinks that everything he and Suzuki/Bellwood thinks, says, and does is correct, but he just ends up causing more problems instead. like instead of getting rid of the remnants of the. Demon King, For example: he goes after Vida because she mated with. God’s to create new races for her circle, or the time when he banned all technology that has been announced from other world’s.
AS I see it all of them fucked up in some way or another and the only reason van is working with the thot is cuz they know how to resurrect his mother well he’s got that info now and two because Alda side Wants to kill those they don’t consider people these are literally the only reasons
Not sure why you seem to have such a low opinion of Vida. Most of Vandalieu’s friends are part of races she created and in the first place, Vida was the one that made sure Van wouldn’t despair and commit suicide due to Rodcorte’s curses by having him be born as a stronger race, a Dhampir.
Vida is certainly not perfect but I don’t expect that from anyone. They just have to not do as poorly as Alda and Rodcorte.
One point you missed for Vida is that Alda is the aggressor, he attacked her without warning as far as we’ve been told. Another point against Alda is by his very nature as a God of Order, he forces his perception of justice on the world. He’s even said he doesn’t care for the idea of the population expanding greatly as it would make maintaining order more difficult. His problem is that there is nobody left to reign in his order to prevent it from becoming tyranny. Where once there were eleven Great Gods, suddenly there were only two and they were far from similar in ideals and their trust was deeply fractured. From a certain point of view, Alda could simply be seen as a tragic victim of his own nature. And while Vida has made mistakes, she’s never really been an authoritarian. Even when her own Champion took action to recruit Evil Gods against her wishes, she tried to talk him out of it, but never tried to force her opinion on him, which allowed him the chance to recruit the Evil Gods who stand with Vida to this day. By not shutting down an opposing viewpoint forcefully as Alda has, something great was achieved. Kinda just parroting tejing here, but I thought it was worth trying to go more in depth with his general points.
I’m not particularly good at examining themes in a story but I feel like Death Mage isn’t really about excessive consolidation of power. It’s about caring about others and not simply yourself.
Rodcorte’s main problem is that he’s 100% selfish and self-centered, not caring about anything else except for himself and his circle of reincarnation. Neutral Evil.
Alda is of course depicted as rather evil and tyrannical since this story flips the classic Demon King trope. Instead of the righteous Lawful Good white knights facing off against the Chaotic Evil demon king, it’s the righteous Chaotic Good demon king facing off against the Lawful Evil white knights. To be evil is to be someone that doesn’t care about the well-being of others.
Vida certainly isn’t perfect but there was no reason to cause a war and have her weakened for 100,000 years. In the present time we already see what could’ve happened all those years ago. Large nations that are able to survive in dangerous Devil’s Nests surrounded by dungeons.
There are countless human races that are protected by the stronger monster and half-monster races. Those kingdoms are also watched over by countless gods to make sure excessive disputes didn’t occur like with Orbaume and Amid. Things only turned out poorly because of an attack from an outsider, a powerful evil god.
I guess the point I’ve come to is that in this story you should care about the well-being of others, not only yourself. If Vida had cared about Alda’s opinion more, she wouldn’t have been attacked. If Rodcorte had cared about Vandalieu, he wouldn’t be facing such turmoil right now. If Birkyne and Gubamon had cared about their subordinates and Ternecia, their organization wouldn’t be in shambles.
Most importantly, if Vandalieu hadn’t cared about Zadiris and rescued her at the beginning of the story, it’s questionable whether Van would be as well off as he is right now. He might’ve ended up alone and weak, eventually dying without having strong companions or learning No-Attribute magic.
I wanted to reiterate that although the point of the story is about Chaotic Good vs Lawful Evil, Vandalieu actually seems to be Neutral Good in my opinion. He creates and commands the undead and a horde of monsters but he seems capable of living within a lawful organization if it’s not evil.
Heinz would be Lawful Neutral. He certainly cares about the well-being of others but doesn’t actually do much about it and willfully keeps himself ignorant.
Alda is most definitely Lawful Evil, no questions about it.
Good thoughts in your previous comment and this one, but I’d say Van is unquestionably Chaotic Good. Not to the point of being an absolute good or even a subjective good. But the actions he takes undoubtedly disturb the natural order, create new things, reevaluate other things, but overall try to maximaize happiness for himself and those close to him (while avoiding unintentionally hurting uninvolved outsiders).
I think Heinz is progressing towards a Lawful Neutral/Evil depending on your worldview, but currently he is floundering and often making a mess of things he doesn’t fully comprehend. It’s not truly his fault – he’s still just growing up. But he has still caused a lot of good and a lot of damage so there’s no way he could be considered neutral at this point.
Yea, I’m a little confused with Vandalieu’s exact alignment. His abilities are very chaotic in nature but personality-wise, he’s not that unpredictable and he doesn’t have much if any disdain for laws and organizations. He’s unquestionably good though, he thinks about the well-being of others so frequently and has the willingness for self-sacrifice.
As for Heinz, definitely think he’s Lawful Neutral. If you do a lot good but a lot of bad, they’d cancel each other out to leave him as Neutral. I really wouldn’t say he’s really leaning to evil since he can be considerate of others, he’s just selective with that kindness.
As a side note, miss the old Disqus comments. So much harder to notice replies.
I think Van view of things is very simple Don’t hate love what’s around you you are entitled to happiness but not at the cost of others that have done nothing bad to you. Kill what is opposing you and will cause or has cause harm and consider changing them if they do not oppose it or if they do not cause a treat.
Your view is fairly objective and I agree with most of it, but those decisions of theirs (especially since they’re gods) are not made in a vacuum.
There have been extreme consequences both good and bad for thousands and thousands of years. Those consequences shouldn’t be dropped just because the decision-makers/policy-makers are gods.
Atonement, correction, and betterment is required… and I see Alda and Rodcorte owning up to their mistakes and changing their ways as likely as Hitler becoming a Zionist. It’s impossible and not in their natures to do so.
I mean it took the reappearance of a soul-breaking “demon king” in order for Alda to change his mind after 100,000 years of genocide from killing ALL of his sisters’ kids to just ALMOST ALL of his sisters’ kids…
Don’t think about it for too long or you’ll have an stroke.
The problems with vida’s races are actually something that makes them more suited to helping lambda. There are several unisexual races and some whose reproduction rate is too slow. This makes it absolutely necessary for them to coexist with each other. Therefore making it possible for different races to love under 1 flag or atleast live together like they do in the southern regions. So these little problem with vida’s races is what makes ideal to achieve a good world. What vida did might not have been 100% perfect but seeing alda’s behaviour, she wasn’t left with much choice.
Alda is not bad because he won, but because of what he did. He did not like to hear any opinion that went against him. Even when guduranis prioritised killing creation minded champions because they possesed a bigger threat to him, alda did not even come talk with vida. He still firmly believed that he and none else was right. This attitude is actually what makes him bad. He speaks of order but as we can see, even vida’s races are capable of living in order. Also he is the one who forced vida to take desperate measures because he had already proved that he will not listen to anyone. Thus forcing vida to do what she did.
Tldr, almost every problem between vida and alda could have been avoided if alda treated others as his equal and heard opinions of others which went against his ideas.
