Guards had a tough job, especially the fresh recruits. Kest thought that the hardest thing about it was having to watch the city’s gate during winter. Patrolling the city, mediating disagreements, investigating crimes and picking up drunkards who had fallen asleep on the streets at night were all easy tasks when compared to watching the gate during winter. As for watching the prison and doing paperwork – those jobs were heaven.
The reason why watching the gate was so tough was because guards could not afford to lose focus. That didn’t mean that guards lost their focus while doing other jobs, but… watching the gate forced a particularly large amount of tension upon the guards.
They had to check every single one of the many people entering and leaving the city, and they had to do so in a timely manner, but they also had to do it carefully. And yet if the guards worked too slowly, people would give them unpleasant looks, and there were even some adventurers who would click their tongues in frustration.
But the hardest thing about it was the cold. It was still relatively warm as it was still January, but Kest, who had been on duty from early in the morning, was chilled to the bone.
I want to go and eat lunch already, he thought to himself.
Kest’s senpais from the night watch had been delayed because of a strange commotion that had occurred inside the city, but he knew that they should be coming to take over soon. Looking forward to that, he continued his duties. It was just after noon, a time of day where few adventurers and merchants left the city, so he wasn’t particularly busy.
But it really is cold if you don’t stay moving, he thought, taking small steps on the spot to try and stay warm.
But his senpai Aggar soon reprimanded him.
“Kest, don’t fidget around in front of the gate! You’re a guard, so when nothing’s happening, just stay still like a statue and pay attention to your surroundings!” Aggar growled.
He was standing up straight, spear in hand, his gaze moving around the area around the city and beyond the highway. He was a senior guard who had extracted some small change as a bribe from a boy who had barely survived a bandit attack and chuckled, “This can pay for my drinks tonight.” But he was serious at times like this.
… With that said, it was only because it was difficult to cover up blunders on this job, so he could get fired if he didn’t do it properly.
“You’re a Beast-person, aren’t you? Use your own fur to keep warm, you cat bastard!” Aggar muttered, adding a racial insult and thinking nothing of it.
But Kest, knowing that this was his fate as a fresh recruit, simply endured the insult with a stiff smile. “Senpai, I’m a wolf-type Beast-person. And other than my ears and tail, there isn’t much fur on my body,” he said, protesting lightly.
“Don’t talk back! If you’re a dog then behave like one and stay quiet!”
… This is part of the job, just part of the job. It won’t go on forever, Kest told himself repeatedly in his head, suppressing his anger.
Finally calming down, he returned his gaze to the highway to see a woman approaching from the other side. She was wearing a hooded mantle and carrying some belongings on her back, walking towards the city with her head down. She was carrying too little to be a freshly-starting traveling merchant who couldn’t hire escorts, but also too poorly-equipped to be an adventurer.
On top of that, this was a strange time of day to be arriving at the city. She was certainly suspicious.
But if Kest deemed her to not be suspicious, then that would be the end of it. It was possible that she was just a rookie adventurer who couldn’t afford proper equipment and had overslept today.
“Your identification papers,” said Kest, just as he always did.
“I’m sorry, I don’t have any,” said the woman.
Her voice was kinder and prettier than Kest had expected, but that didn’t mean that he could let his guard down.
“What do you mean by that?” he asked in a business-like tone.
“Well, you see –” the woman began as she lowered her hood, revealing her face.
Kest’s eyes took in a chocolate-colored skin that didn’t look like it belonged in this cold winter air and long, pointed ears. The woman was a Dark Elf, and a very beautiful one at that.
“You see, I’ve only just left my village for the first time. I don’t belong to any Guild,” she continued.
A gentle voice and calm, purple eyes. Bewitchingly beautiful skin and a sweet fragrance that tickled the nose…
“Umm, Guard-san?” said the woman, her voice bringing Kest back to reality.
“Ah, I-I see,” Kest said hastily. “That can’t be helped.”
His senpai Aggar was still nearby. It was only through the efforts of Alda’s peaceful faction and Vida’s Church that a Beast-person like him could become a guard; he didn’t want to have his reputation damaged for being captivated by a beautiful woman.
Kest instinctively glanced in Aggar’s direction to see that Aggar was closer than he had thought, and wearing a difficult expression.
Crap, he’s going to get angry at me again, Kest thought, but –
“I see. Then could I please have your name?” Aggar asked the Dark Elf woman.
… It turned out Kest had nothing to worry about. He realized that Aggar’s expression was not one of anger towards him, but (an attempt to) look serious and make a good impression on the woman.
“Yes. My name is Darcia,” the Dark Elf said.
“I see, so you’re Darcia-san,” Aggar repeated. “I believe you should have passed through numerous cities and villages on your way here; why have you not attempted to acquire some identification?”
“That’s –”
Aggar continued conversing with Darcia, ignoring Kest entirely. Perhaps he wanted to stop her for as long as possible; he was even asking questions that he did not normally ask.
If you want her to like you, I think it’ll have the opposite effect, though. And your eyes are too obvious, Kest thought, watching Aggar’s gaze move between Darcia’s beautiful face to her plentiful chest so conspicuously that even he could see it from the side.
“So, what business do you have in our city?” Aggar asked.
“To see my son,” Darcia replied.
Aggar’s mood dropped visibly the moment he heard this answer. “I-I see. You have a son…”
“More importantly, you seem to be quite strict. Did something happen in the city?” Darcia asked, perhaps misunderstanding Aggar’s long questioning as the city having a strict security protocol, or perhaps having sensed that something was afoot.
But Aggar, now in a foul mood, seemed to have no intention to answer.
“It isn’t that there was an incident, but… the tome held by the statue of Alda-sama in the city’s Collective Church suddenly crumbled to pieces, and Alda’s Priest has lost consciousness and collapsed,” said Kest.
“Oh my♪… That’s quite troublesome,” said Darcia, raising a hand to her mouth in surprise.
For a moment, her voice sounded excited to hear this news, but Kest decided that he was just imagining it.
“Yes. Fortunately, it seems that the Priest has regained consciousness, but he is currently resting. Our senpais are going around and calming the public down so that everyone doesn’t panic,” Kest explained.
But in reality, the Priest was still unconscious. On top of that, he had screamed, “THE WORLD IS COMING TO AN END!” at the top of his lungs before collapsing.
That had caused a panic among everyone in the Collective Church, and the other clergymen and guards were working hard to calm the people down and stopping the panic from spreading across the city.
“I-I see. That really is very troublesome, isn’t it?” said Darcia.
“Yes. There was an incident several years ago where tears of blood came out of the eyes of the statue of Yupeon, the god of ice… I heard that was very troublesome as well,” said Kest.
“Is that so~?” Darcia murmured, her gaze wandering.
“Ah, I’m sorry for stopping you for so long,” said Kest as he stopped the conversation, thinking that she must be worried about her son who was in the city. “The toll fee for an adult with no identification will be ten Baums.”
“Yes, I understand,” said Darcia, taking out a ten-Baum coin from a pouch.
Before Kest could move, Aggar – having recovered from his shock – took the coin, going out of his way to hold Darcia’s hand in both of his in doing so.
“We have received your payment. Welcome to our fair city, the city of Morksi,” Aggar said.
“Y-yes, thank you,” said Darcia, a little bewildered as she left to enter the city.
“Senpai, don’t you think you overdid it? It won’t be my fault if the commanding officer yells at you,” said Kest.
“Shut the hell up,” Aggar growled at Kest. “Come to think of it, Dark Elves live pretty long lives. Her son probably became an adult long ago. And the fact that she didn’t mention anything about a husband means…” He trailed off, snickering to himself, apparently having impure thoughts.
Kest sighed. But with that said, Aggar hadn’t directly asked Darcia for a way to contact her or made any threats, so he couldn’t really be criticized for searching for Darcia and attempting to court her outside of work hours.
I’m sure even Aggar-senpai won’t do anything rash. Even though he’s like this, he’s still a guard, after all, Kest thought, returning his gaze to the highway.
And then he suddenly realized something.
Are there even any other Dark Elves in this city?
In the Alcrem Duchy, which lay in the north, many of the humans and Dwarves had pale skin. Dark Elves would stand out among such a population, but Kest hadn’t heard of any living around here.
Ah, but it’s not for certain that her son is a Dark Elf. The father might be of another race, or the son could be adopted… Come to think of it, their pupils were the same color, thought Kest, suddenly remembering the one-eyed boy with a purple eye who had passed through the gate just a few hours ago.
But he decided that the boy couldn’t be of any relation to Darcia and returned to work.
Alda, the god of law and fate, did not possess a physical body. It was not a simple matter for him to lose consciousness. Even a terrible pain that felt like a spear piercing his body from the inside would not cause him to faint.
But he groaned in pain now, having suffered significant damage due to a third of the special Dungeon created through his own power having been destroyed. This damage was far greater than the damage he had sustained when his divine authority was broken.
But he had managed to limit the effects that this had on Lambda’s surface more than when the spirit clone of Yupeon, the god of ice, was destroyed.
The damage he had sustained would likely recover in several years’ time. After all, he possessed greater individual strength to begin with, and he had far more worshipers than Yupeon.
“… Report,” Alda ordered.
“My lord Alda, I think you should rest for now…” said one of the other gods.
“We are gods. Nothing about my current state will change by resting a few days,” said Alda, brushing the god away, knowing that now was not the time to rest. “Report. What happened to the Five-colored Blades?”
“Two of the Five-colored Blades, Jennifer and Diana, are on standby in the ‘town.’ There is no damage to their bodies, minds or souls. It will be possible for them to return to the battlefield very soon,” the god reported. “However…”
Vandalieu hadn’t used Soul Devour on them, so the two of them were safe and recovering inside the ‘town.’
“It seems that they are questioning their past killings of the foul Ghouls and Majin. They are wondering whether they can continue fighting as they have been up until now,” said the god, continuing his report.
Jennifer and Diana were in the ‘town,’ where the people had disappeared due to Curatos’s destruction. Having found out from Vandalieu that Ghouls were a race that had been created by Vida, it seemed that they were now discussing what they would do next.
With that being the case, perhaps it would be best for Mill, the goddess of slumber, to speak directly to Diana, who was her priestess. The Five-colored Blades were not merely worshipers of the gods, but heroes who had been chosen by them.
However, Mill was currently occupied, as she was busy looking after Heinz and Delizah.
“I am allowing the souls of Heinz and Delizah to rest in my Divine Realm,” Mill said.
Heinz and Delizah had received attacks with the effects of Vandalieu’s Soul Devour Skill multiple times, and had suffered damage to their souls as a result.
It wasn’t enough to cause lasting damage on their memories, personalities or their Statuses, but it was likely that they would suffer symptoms such as their minds suddenly becoming clouded or their limbs suddenly becoming unable to move. They were in a state where, under ordinary circumstances, it would be best to rest for months or even up to a year.
But they were being treated inside the Divine Realm of Mill, the goddess of slumber. The damage to their souls was recovering several dozen times more quickly.
“Delizah will have no problems if she rests for a few more days,” said Mill. “However, Heinz’s recovery will take several months. Even though Joshua protected him, Vida’s incarnation attacked him afterwards when he was in a soul-only state. And it seems that the mental damage that he has suffered is also slowing the process.”
Heinz was not in a good state. It seemed that he had suffered no small amount of damage from Darcia’s attack.
But even then, he was in a far better state than Edgar.
“Edgar… is currently being treated by Rodcorte. He is attempting to repair Edgar’s soul using the soul fragments of Luke, who was destroyed,” reported Niltark, the god of judgment, in a tone that was devoid of emotion.
Edgar was the member of the Five-colored Blades who had sustained the heaviest damage. Even after returning to the ‘town’ and returning to his original body, he had been unable to move. On top of that, his mind was in a state of complete disarray; he had barely been able to remember his own name.
Niltark’s heroic spirit Luke, who had been descended upon Edgar during the battle, had expired not long afterwards.
Luke’s final words had been instructions to use the fragments of his own soul to treat Edgar if possible.
Those final words had been respected, and Edgar’s treatment had been left to Rodcorte, who was an expert on souls… Rodcorte had been quite hesitant to accept, but had finally agreed after Alda reminded him that he had promised to cooperate with Alda’s faction.
But even Rodcorte himself did not know whether Edgar could be restored to a normal state, and there was no way of knowing how long the process would take without actually attempting it.
Thus, it was unclear as to when the Five-colored Blades could all resume their activities. Everyone other than Edgar would be able to begin working again in several months, but the important floors of the Dungeon had been destroyed – the 66th floor and the ones beyond it, which they had not yet faced.
And even if the Dungeon floors had been intact, Curatos, the god of records, had been destroyed. Without him, the copies that would become trials for the party could not be created. The Dungeon currently had no traps or treasure chests; it was now nothing more than a very long hiking course.
It was therefore impossible to make Heinz and his companions any more powerful than they were now.
From this battle, the gods had learned that it would be a mistake to believe that the Five-colored Blades would be able to fight against the current Vandalieu to some extent under the right circumstances… that it would be a mistake to assume that the right circumstances could even be wished for.
“Alda, what if we end the Five-colored Blades’ training here and have them begin a crusade in several months’ time? Vandalieu may still be residing in the city of Morksi then,” suggested one of the younger gods.
“Indeed,” another young god said in agreement. “There will be a chance at victory if we gather the heroes that we have been raising and have Heinz and his companions lead them after they have recovered.”
“Silence,” said Niltark, standing up to speak before Alda could even respond. “Do not trouble our lord with your foolish plans.”
“F-foolish?!” one of the younger gods repeated incredulously.
“Niltark-dono, that manner of speaking can be considered rude, even when coming from someone of your stature!” protested the other.
“We understand that your heroic spirit was destroyed, but we would like you to refrain from taking your anger out on us!”
But Niltark’s expression was one of exasperation, not anger. “Allow me to ask, then, Arkum, god of the blue sky. How many forces will we be able to gather for this crusade to the city of Morksi in the Alcrem Duchy of the Orbaume Kingdom?”
“Of course, it will be possible to gather all of our war forces if we are given several months. It is likely that we will be able to gather all of the heroes and include more fighting forces from every Church. If we have Heinz stand as a leader, those who have deluded themselves into thinking that they are devout followers of Vida, members of Vida’s races themselves and even adventurers who never attend any Church would join the line of battle,” said Arkum.
Niltark gave another deep sigh. “Why don’t you understand that that would be impossible? As a god, you should be able to comprehend this.”
The gods of Alda’s forces were raising heroes in order to defeat Vandalieu. Many of them were just ordinary guards, squires, rookie adventurers or mage apprentices, but they were going through training and developing after receiving divine protections from the gods.
Indeed, if they could be gathered, it would form a considerable fighting force. However, not all of them were in the Orbaume Kingdom. About half of them were living in regions controlled by the Amid Empire.
How would the forces living in the Amid Empire gather in a city in the Orbaume Kingdom, a nation that was the Amid Empire’s enemy? No matter how one thought about it, it was obvious that they would be stopped by the armed forces at the border between the nations in the Sauron Duchy.
There was the option of having them sneak into the Orbaume Kingdom, but… there were dozens of heroes, and including their companions, that would be hundreds of people. That was far too many to sneak into the Orbaume Kingdom within the space of a few months.
“I am sure that you would not be foolish enough to suggest that we Teleport them across like Gufadgarn?” Niltark continued. “It is already clear that Zuruwarn, the chief of the gods of the space attribute, is on Vida’s side. We cannot acquire their assistance when they are focused on maintaining the attribute, and even if we could, we should not ask them for it… There is no telling where the heroes that we have put so much effort into raising would be sent off to.”
“Then there should be no problem with borrowing the strength of our followers who have ascended to divinity and become gods of the space attribute!” said Arkum.
In order to take a step closer to having a stable maintenance of the world, Alda had turned qualified believers into new space-attribute gods to join the remaining space-attribute gods in their work.
At first, it was to replace the large number of space-attribute gods that had been lost in battle, but now that the situation was like this, they had to be used.
But they were far too few in number.
“Do not be so foolish. There are far too few of them. Perhaps they could Teleport some heroes once or twice, but are you really suggesting that they possess enough power to exert it upon the world’s surface multiple times in quick succession? If we were to make them do that, they would be extinguished from existence,” said Niltark.
Perhaps only realizing the reality of events in the world for the first time from hearing Niltark’s words, Arkum let out a short gasp and looked away.
Incidentally, relying on human mages was out of the question. Almost every space-attribute mage capable of Teleporting other people over great distances was already employed by influential noble families or large Churches.
Requesting for their help would need information to be given to their respective organizations. There was no doubt that this would result in a crisis.
If they did not do this very carefully, a great war could break out between the Amid Empire and Orbaume Kingdom. In the worst-case scenario, the heroes of the Amid Empire and the heroes of the Orbaume Kingdom might begin killing each other.
After all, the Amid Empire and the Orbaume Kingdom were nations that had engaged in bloody feuds since they were founded.
In ordinary circumstances, the gulf between the nations would be bridged by the newly-appointed Pope Eileek of Alda’s Church in the Amid Empire and Heinz, the successor to Bellwood, after he finished his training. Led by these two individuals, the nations would overcome their differences and humanity would unite in order to vanquish the Demon King. At least, that had been the plan, but…
“In any case, the forces required to defeat Vandalieu cannot be gathered in a matter of months,” said Niltark.
In addition to the gap in the fighting forces left by Edgar, Heinz had lost his heroic spirit, Joshua. He was currently only able to summon a familiar spirit upon himself, even with Heroic Spirit Descent.
Of course, Alda had numerous heroic spirits other than Joshua. However, that did not mean that any of them could simply replace Joshua.
All heroic spirits were once originally humans, and they had their own personalities. Unlike familiar spirits, each would have their own compatibility with certain individuals. Heroic spirits could not be summoned unless their compatibility was good.
Joshua had been the heroic spirit with the best compatibility with Heinz.
“Then, we must simply have the other heroic spirits compensate for the ones that were lost –” Arkum began.
“Even if the heroic spirits did compensate for the ones that were lost, it would be meaningless before a Vandalieu who is free from any unfavorable circumstances with his own fighting forces gathered,” said Niltark.
“Unfavorable circumstances?” Arkum repeated. “Was it not Heinz and his companions who were taken by surprise?”
“It is the complete opposite,” said Mill, the goddess of slumber, answering in Niltark’s place. “It is true that this battle was unforeseen by Heinz and his companions, but judging from the records, the same is likely true for Vandalieu. Though his body was elaborately reproduced, it was still a fake, and he was forced to materialize his own soul in order to compensate for that. And none of his subordinates were with him… Gufadgarn and Vida’s Incarnation interfered, but Vandalieu was in unfavorable circumstances for the entire duration of the battle.”
The faces of the young gods, including Arkum, turned pale in response to Mill’s words. With that being the case, Vandalieu would likely spend the next few months gathering and preparing a countless number of subordinates. Just how much fighting forces would he have on his side?
“Niltark, Mill, that is enough,” said Alda, having stayed silent up until now as he listened to the gods’ conversation. “Arkum, I understand your feelings of impatience. Vandalieu surpasses the Demon King Guduranis in all aspects except for his strength in battle. I am sure that you cannot help but feel impatient, being able to only watch as the souls of other gods are devoured.”
“Our apologies,” the young gods said, bowing as they regained their composure from Alda’s gentle tone of voice.
Vandalieu was the first being they had ever seen with the ability to destroy souls. They had been shaken and become impatient because of this enemy, who was capable of destroying them despite the fact that gods were otherwise considered immortal.
Indeed, Vandalieu was different from Guduranis. Guduranis had only been able to destroy souls rather than devour them, and had needed somewhere between several seconds to half a minute just to destroy a single soul.
As each of Vandalieu’s attacks caused damage to the soul, he could simply destroy his enemies’ souls by attacking them. With the World Piercing Destructive Hollow Cannon, he could devour the souls of hundreds of humans with a single attack.
“For now, we must treat Heinz and his companions, and use the Dungeon left behind by Curatos to raise them into individuals worthy of succeeding Bellwood… Individuals who can become the central fighting force in the battle against Vandalieu,” said Alda.
Curatos, the god of records, had made copies from the information that he had recorded. It was possible for another god to recreate the copies on the Dungeon floors that remained intact, though they would not be as elaborate as the copies created by Curatos.
All of Alda’s subordinates combined could not fill the gap left behind by Curatos.
“I am sure that you are still uneasy, but I am sure that they will buy some time for us… Rodcorte’s reincarnated individuals or Fitun, who is absent here,” said Alda.
In Vandalieu’s dream, he was confused as he found himself surrounded by a great number of blocks.
He knew that he had to assemble these blocks. But he didn’t know how they were supposed to be assembled.
“Well, I don’t know, so I suppose I’ll think it up as I go. But I suppose I need to assemble hands before I can assemble the blocks,” he said to himself.
With a clattering sound, Vandalieu began assembling hands. Large hands, small hands, hands with many fingers, long hands – he created a great number of hands, each for a different use.
“Next, I should assemble eyes… no, brains first. Eyes can come after that.”
Vandalieu needed brains to think about how to assemble the blocks. He began assembling brains out of suitable-looking blocks. Round, triangular, rectangular – he made multiple, thinking that the more brains he had, the better.
And so, he continued building body parts he thought were necessary in quantities that he thought were necessary. Before he realized it, he had begun to lose track of things.
“Was this an eye? Or a leg? No, maybe it was a heart… No, I’m sure it was a vertebra. It has to be. But I’m not very confident,” he murmured.
Vandalieu had become unable to tell the body parts that he had assembled apart from one another. Would it be a mistake to assemble himself with these body parts in this state?
“Vandalieu, nobody knows what’s the right or wrong answer. You should take the form that you think is right,” a gentle voice said suddenly.
Vandalieu looked around to see that he was surrounded by his many companions; he hadn’t noticed them up until now.
Body parts assembled by Bone Man and Knochen were being carried in Sam’s carriage.
Zadiris and Basdia were assembling more parts, and Tarea was rebuilding them. Luciliano was taking apart body parts that had already been made, but Iris was taking the pieces and kneading them into round objects.
Jeena was trying to take separate body parts and put them together, but ended up crushing them because she used too much force. Zandia gathered the crushed fragments and began mixing them together.
Eleanora, Bellmond and Isla were all putting more body parts together on their own, and Pauvina fell over and broke them.
Princess Levia was burning the blocks and putting scorch-marks on them, while Orbia dissolved them into gooey masses. Quinn was assembling blocks into a beehive-like shape, and Eisen was attempting to feed the blocks to Vandalieu. Kanako stood on top of Vandalieu and began to sing.
Everyone else was putting the blocks together as they pleased.
It was very, very fun.
“… Where am I?” asked Vandalieu, seeing a beautiful ceiling as soon as he woke up.
The room was smaller than the shared room of the Starling Inn, but he had the feeling that it was higher in quality.
The back of his head felt warm.
“Good morning, Vandalieu.”
“Mom?”
Vandalieu was lying with his head in Darcia’s lap.
“This is the Spring Day Pavilion,” said Darcia. “Your room in the Starling Inn was a shared room, so I vacated it and got a personal room here. It’s a place somewhere in-between a high-class inn and a cheap one.”
“More importantly, why are you here in Morksi, Mom?” Vandalieu asked. “And your skin color has become a little brighter. I do remember you and Gufadgarn coming to help me, though.”
“You remember that?!” Darcia exclaimed. “Th-that’s amazing. Even in that condition…”
“You were in your magical girl outfit with your transformation staff activated.”
“You don’t need to remember that! I don’t mind wearing it on-stage, but it’s embarrassing anywhere else. Gufadgarn-san turned up all of a sudden and said that we were going to get you, and I didn’t have anything to change into… Ah, those people saw me as well, didn’t they… I hope they’ve lost their memories,” Darcia mumbled to herself.
As Vandalieu lay there in her lap, he began to get a gist of what had happened.
After Darcia retrieved Vandalieu’s soul from the Dungeon, she had come to the city of Morksi to look after him. She had used the Chaos Skill to change her skin color so that she appeared as an ordinary Dark Elf.
Bellmond and Eleanora were in the city, but they had taken over the criminal organization here, so they had likely been apprehensive about being seen by the city’s people if they had come to him to help directly.
The fact that Gufadgarn wasn’t anywhere to be seen… was possibly because she was considerate enough to leave Darcia and Vandalieu alone to have some mother-son time.
“Thank you, Mom. Gufadgarn, too. I’ve made everyone worry about me,” said Vandalieu.
He heard a warm response from Gufadgarn inside his body. Darcia stroked Vandalieu’s hair with her warm hand.
“Is your body alright? Is there anything strange about your Status?” Darcia asked.
“My body… feels really heavy, but I don’t think there’s anything wrong with it. As for my Status… my Mana is regenerating very slowly. Maybe it’s because I tore my soul into pieces and then essentially ate myself?” Vandalieu wondered.
“Yes,” Darcia agreed. “But Vida-sama said that those side-effects will be gone after a week at most, and then you’ll be back to normal.”
“I see… Then I’ll go to the Commerce Guild tomorrow.”
Vandalieu had recovered about half of his Mana. He wouldn’t have any difficulty doing the things that he had planned. If he was going to make a full recovery in about a week, it was probably fine to begin making his move now.
He couldn’t afford to just sleep as he lured Murakami and Birkyne here, either.
“I see, then I’ll go with you. It’s my first time going to the Commerce Guild as well, so I’m a little excited,” said Darcia.
“… Eh, you’re coming as well?”
“Yes, of course. That’s why I came here through the city’s gates, after all.”
It seemed that Darcia hadn’t come here just to look after Vandalieu.
“What about your sermons?” Vandalieu asked.
“Kanako-chan is adding some new members, so it should be fine for a while,” Darcia replied.
It seemed that Kanako had made use of Darcia’s absence to persuade candidates to join her idol group by telling them, “It’s for both Darcia-san and Vandalieu’s sakes!”
“And this city is quite nice, isn’t it? I wasn’t denied purchases for being a Dark Elf, and the guards and the people running the inn were nice to me. I don’t get any unpleasant stares from alleyways, either,” said Darcia.
Such persecution had gone unpunished during her days as an adventurer in the Amid Empire.
… Vandalieu felt a sudden urge to bombard the emperor’s castle and the Great Church of Alda.
“Well, there was someone who gave me a little trouble… but it was just one,” said Darcia.
Though he had no proof of this, Vandalieu immediately remembered Aggar, the guard who had demanded a bribe from him.
… Perhaps it wasn’t too late to go and turn him into meatballs for Quinn’s children.
No, no, Mom’s just too beautiful for her own good, so I’d end up committing mass murder if I killed every single person for things like that, Vandalieu told himself.
“Is something wrong?” Darcia asked.
“It’s nothing,” said Vandalieu. “Well then, let’s do our best with the skewer stall tomorrow.”
“Yes,” said Darcia, giving a happy laugh. “I’m looking forward to it.”
And so, the sun set over the city of Morksi, none of its citizens aware that it was now inhabited by the Demon King.

Van’s friends, and family helping him rebuilding his soul was the most wholesome eldritch horror moment I’ve ever seen 😛

Are they all just forgetting that if Van’s body hadn’t been a fake his bloodlust attack would give been a free, unstoppable instant win button? Literally the only reason that Mr. Ketchup and pals weren’t party wiped is because Curatos erased the parts of the copy of Van that turned into microbes. It doesn’t matter if Van has allies with him or not if you simply can’t deal with one of his attacks. Especially considering said attack is an absurdly high damage AoE attack with a several hundred metre range in a sphere around himself that can kill you no matter how much hp you have because it directly damages your soul. If Van was truly backed into a corner he wouldn’t hesitate to involve civilians and other innocents in his attack either.
Hmmmm
Knowing Rod, he’ll probably resurrect the original demon king while trying to heal Edgar

It’s satisfactory, isn’t it?

“none of its citizens aware that it was now inhabited by the Demon King.” LOL.
Serves you right you Edger b*stard. But I guess he will be more troublesome because his soul is handled by rodidiot. I bet that idiot will do something as stupid as by using demon king soul fragments.
I know what will be the fate of Niltark and Yupion but I really want the destruction of Mill the Goddess of Slumber Bi*ch.

Damn, they left Edgar for Rodiot!? Tf is wrong with these guys!?!? I have a feeling he’ll do something stupid with his Soul and Guduranis’s, since he couldn’t give them to Murakami’s group
DarkCarnage
well to be fair he is the best with souls…but they should of left someone to watch over his work…never trust idorect
Chiu ChunLing
It seems like Rotcortex’s first instinct was to just let him die and be reincarnated normally.
Just from the perspective of the soul expert, that’s probably the right answer.
It would also probably be safer for Edgar himself in the long run.

The scariest part of Vandelieu is probably when he starts rationalizing why he shouldn’t go commit mass-murder
Baldingere
I must admit, I had some hopes for Mill. When we learned about her, I thougt: maybe she will be a nice gal and a traitor to Alda’s faction.
Because she is the goddes of sweet slumber! I love sleeping, I could not believe someone who reigns over sleep (a part of the night, I would assume) would be bad!
Darcia is amazing!
Vandalieu can be a god of so many things: death, soul, curses, revenge, cooking, alchemy, creator, family, dreams… I don’t think he will have to choose between them, so Combo!
Flesh Sculptor
So, here is my theory – Rodcorte was not so stupid at the beginning. Now now, do not laugh, just listen for a bit.
At the start he was not stupid, he just couldn’t understand human psychology. That made Van think he is stupid. Now see, we know that gods change in accordance with the way people who believe in them perceive them, prime example is bi-gender Tentacle-san becoming girly Tentacle-chan when their believers reclassified them into a Scyla heroic godess. Van, informed most of his followers of Dumbcores existence, tying him to Lambda and creating a circle of believers who do not worship him, which prevents him from gaining power through them, but unanimously think of him as good for nothing idiot god – that makes him dumber. And the more people join Van’s empire, the more people know of him and think he is an idiot, and he just keeps getting dumber.
NsP7737
Here’s my theory (if Rodcorte doesn’t end up killed by Van)
He’ll mingle with the planet’s citizens and learn little by little how the people’s mind work and he’ll get less dumber (not smarter of course, it’s Idiotcorte after all)
Requieum JokeStar
no kidding, first time seeing finally someone can see the truth about rodcorte’s foolishness.
and yeah, your theory is right, atleast in my opinion.

Why does he even need to be an adventurer now
Brandragoon
He doesn’t want to be fighting a war on two fronts. He wants to either keep the kingdom from getting involved in Alda’s little crusade or he wants to persuade them to join his side. Both of those objectives are far easier to do if he has already established himself in the kingdom.
Although his more immediate goal is to lure out the “flashy boy” Birkyn and the reincarnated failure of a teacher Murakami so he can deal with them on his own terms.

Darcia was like a demoness succubus here.
Was Vida motherzone? That sucks
Kionzel
What the heck are you spewing? If by Succubus you mean Darcia’s mentally affecting people to fall in love with her you’re dumb. No, that’s stupid, she had and has no reason to do that as of yet that we might know off, and it’s not known if that’s a power she has. We know she has a sway over the Races of Vida, but seeing as Kelt is a Beastman(one of Bida’s races) and he was able to retain his sanity without treating Darcia as anything more than a pretty dark elf, she wasn’t doing anything like exerting mental control. Your value system is so diametrically opposed to that of the mc and his allies that everything they do must seem evil huh?
WholesomeAF
Hey you pile of shit
Brandragoon
You must have the grotesque mind skill at a pretty high level because I cannot even begin to understand how you think.
Vida never had a romantic interest in Van, from the very start she has been treating him like a son. Nothing she has done has even hinted at her being romantically interested in Van.
OtakuOnCaffiene
Is there a evolution for superior skills? Like for this guy his Grotesque mind must be evolved into something like Absolute mental degenerate skill and he must’ve maxed that skill out too… I gotta respect this guy for min maxing a skill tho

I think this Truepath111 fu*ker is a huge masochistic pervert. He wants to be abused badly by everyone and he finds pleasure from it.

In other words Vandalieu just dealt a devastating blow to Alda’s faction, causing his champions to doubt the validity of their actions, making them unable to act for months and seriously debilitating them. He gained a whole bunch of mana and intelligence as a result of killing the God of records, who’s existence is so important that multiple Gods can’t even start to reproduce his duties. And Alda can’t train his champions for at least a few years, with no way to awaken Bellwood.
Meanwhile Van just needs a few days of rest :3

Kanako stood on top of Vandalieu and began to sing.
while I agree… Levia, Luciliano, Orbia, Jeena, Eisen, Quinn, Kanako… do you understand that is the soul of Van, do you?

When Volume 6 is officially released. Right now we just have the cover and would prefer to wait till the next volume of the light novel is actually out.

When you say “officially released”, do you mean that there is actually a hard copy of the story. Or do you mean on some website. Because if there are hard copies of this story’s volumes I would buy them.

there are. i own the first volume of the LN. i recommend emailing an eBay seller located in japan to see if they can get the series for you. it cost me $18 a volume so it can be a bit pricey.

Edgar left in the care of Rodcorte? Alda seems to have forgotten that Rodcorte also received the Demon King Gudaranis’ soul fragments from the former as well as haphazardly bunched the fragments of the four creation-oriented champions into Vandalieu’s soul. For a god whose so obtuse, one would think that a hundred thousand years of contemplation would’ve been more than enough time to reflect upon his actions even once. Even when reflecting with his subordinate gods upon the available forces he has to fight, it’s honestly quite pathetic he thinks only to agitate Vandalieu further into all out war.
Edgar (damaged soul) + Demon King personality fragment. A true recipe for disaster.
Rodcorte’s selfishness has only proven to dig his grave further and further into the immaterial void. And while Rodcorte seems to be the only choice the Gods of Lambda, Earth and Origin when it comes to Reincarnation Systems compared to his contemporaries, Gudaranis and Vida. Vandelieu’s destiny seems to be set with him supplanting Rodcorte as a more competent and I dare say, caring God of Reincarnation.
How you ask? As mentioned many times by the Gods, Vida’s reincarnation system might not be perfect. But her Champion does possess an ability to perfect it. What is it? We saw it in these two chapters when Vandelieu devoured Curatos, gaining his Perfect Record Technique.
And Rodcorte I dare say possesses the necessary skills for maintaining a Reincarnation System. 😈
Randomreader
Also in another chapter (don’t remember which. Sorry) rodiot said he has to find worlds without a god of reincarnation on them so can’t any of them help in rodiots replacement

He’s just talking speculation and what he assumes will happen based on Roddy’s track record up to this point. Spoilers aren’t allowed and can get your account banned.
Jonathan Hurd
We’re all mostly guessing that Rodidots going to put part of the DKs soul in Edgar because of Rodidiots record. I don’t believe we have confirmation, but it seems to line up with what we know so far.
Rodidiots greatest weapon to give is the DK soul fragments but he has no one to give those to right now.
If you compare Edgar and the four creation champions states, after getting their souls broken, they seem to hold quite a lot of similarities. Both are becoming one being by combining multiple souls that were shattered to pieces thanks to the Demon Kings soul breaking. That seems to have dyed Vans soul in Death Attribute allowing him to safely fuse with the pieces. So it is arguable the same could happen to Edgar.
Add to this formula a situation like this is the best chance to try this experiment for future reference. Then add in his overall disregard for anyone but himself. Finally topping it with the fact that no one’s sure that Edgar will recover even if Rodidiot does the surgery normally. Rodidiot has no reason not to try.
If it goes badly then he just says he wasn’t confident to begin with. If it succeeds then he might be able to do something similar to someone like Murakami later. In the end it’s no real risks to Rodidiot while increasing the likelihood to kill Van, and those are the only things he ever cared about to begin with.
Now I think we all as a group can see the glaring flaw that Van could absorb the piece after killing and eating Edgar, but hey we don’t call him Rodidiot for nothing.
Wyvagron
Imagine just a second :
“What could I do to make this guy powerful enough to fight against Vandalieu ? I’ve got demon king fragments and, Ho! look at this, one the lamba reincarntes died… This give me an idea…”
Sounds like something Idiotcorte would do.
hidefreek
The main problem is Rodcorte refuse to listen to anyone and lack of self-restrained.
He was a god who care nothing except his own divinity and because of this he will take brainless action instantly without any second though. (He fell threat so he act without proper action and he created Vandalieu and enimity toward himself)

Thanks for the chapter.
Kemonomimi girls will make their appearence. Shut up, they will. How nice that Darcia and Van will spend some time together in a somewhat normal city where Van will have too fight the urge to destroy the city because some men will try to hit on Darcia. It will be wonderful.
Pannath
Someone really needs to tell Vandelieu what destroying souls does to the system. If he knew the consequences he might not do it anymore. Rodcorte’s system is not only way more advanced than Vida’s system, its also being constantly monitored and under maintenance by trained individuals; Vida’s system isn’t. I know Vandelieu doesn’t want to risk people he kills being reincarnated to come back at him, and its the only way to take out gods. What he needs to do is develop a skill to wipe souls. Souls are essentially an energy source, destroying them violates the law of conservation of mass or it’s equivalent for the reincarnation system. If he could ensure a non reversible soul wipe, then he shouldn’t mind if the soul energy still exists. The problem is no one has explained to him what his soul destruction is doing, or what would happen if the system collapses.
Haraken
Actually Vida system needs constant readjustment even on perfect situation and is therefore always being monitored and worked on. Also due to that Vida system don’t suffer from errors from souls being removed or added, like Rodcorte’s system.
Vida system flaws is that it need constant input from Vida and her heroic spirits, but it doesn’t suffer when souls are removed, added or destroyed.
Rodcorte system strength is that his system normally would run by itself without Rodcorte having to pay it any attention, it however handle unexpected scenario extremely poorly.
Why he is constantly monitoring his system and made tech support job only recently is that it wasn’t required before Vandelieu, but now that Vandelieu cause souls to be moved and sometimes be destroyed, his system isn’t handling well at all the unexpected, which is a slippery slope.
Rodcorte gave job to the very first people he could asked to without any training in handling souls.
Vida on the other hand isn’t as proficient at handling souls as Rodcorte, but she had tens of thousand years of practice, and unlike Rodcorte she isn’t banking on unexpected situation to never arise and is constantly managing her system, not just when errors occurs.
Jonathan Hurd
I think the best way to think of Rodcorte is like a human model train enthusiast. He spends his entire life tinkering and playing with his toy. Of course he’s upset that some random stranger keeps breaking parts forcing him to move pieces around, but overall I feel like the damage is a bit overstated. One or two errors is not going to end the world. You can say Vidas system is less well managed, but it has been running for a hundred thousand years and seems to be running fine currently.
For the argument of violating conservation of energy after Van destroys/eats souls… Well why do you think Van gets stronger eating God’s. Their souls power/energy is being added to Vans. I will also put forward that considering pieces of souls have been picked up after souls were broken they were conserved. They changed form and some energy probably went into a discharge but the sums probably still equal up. Finally, as has been mentioned before Lambda, Origin, and Earth all work on slightly different physics systems from one another. There is no assurances that the law conservation of energy applies in Lambda.
For why doesn’t Van just wipe souls memories. Well that’s the same result of just sending them to Rodcorte. There’s no real point for Van to do that and then send them to Rodcorte who was going to do that anyways.
The reason Van breaks Souls is because there is no punishment after death. So even if he forces painful deaths on people it’ll be over before long and they’ll be right onto their next lives none the wiser. If Rodcorte cared at all about their sins he could twist their fate to a bad one, but Rodcorte never cared so he’s not going to bother. Since Rodcorte won’t hand out punishments it has fallen to Van to do so instead.
A last point I will make regarding Rodidiots systems errors. His system handles billions if not trillions of lives. Van breaks one or two souls at the most maybe every few months. Van is not causing serious enough errors to crash the system. If he acted like Guduranis and started mass breaking cities or nations worth of souls then he could crash the system. All things considered Van is being very considerate in the fact he refuses to break souls without a good reason.
Reaperdeaper
If van we’re to know that he’ll be destroying souls one after another just to f up Rodcorte, of course he’ll probably pick the ones that he hates and not just civilians
KuroAether
So van rip his own soul apart does thst mean he erased rodcorte curse on his soul!!
Sebas Tian
Van only devoured some of his own soul, he didn’t devour the whole thing. Assume the curses are still very much in place for now, though with there being a potential they may be weaker in some fashion.
no1
In this chapter its says “tore my soul into pieces and then essentially ate myself” So I think he actually did eat his whole soul. The one that was devoured was the one that was trying to pin down heinz and the one that was taken away by vida in the last chapter was the pieces of the one that fired the hollow cannon
Sebas Tian
Your own comment admits that Van didn’t devour his whole soul by acknowledging that the whole thing didn’t get hit by the hollow cannon. Van only devoured the parts caught up in the hollow cannon blast.
no1
now i get it
no1
So Van’s being is still preserved with just fragments of his soul
Jonathan Hurd
Van didn’t destroy his soul he just ate it. Considering that when he eats God’s it has been adding to his status and abilities. I think eating souls for Van is like adding new pieces to his already hodgepodge soul.
From what I can tell in this chapter Van didn’t so much lose parts by eating himself but just ended up massively rearranging the pieces. I feel like this rearranging might lead to a more optimized soul possibly. It’s hard to tell considering the way everyone was just putting it together how they liked, lol.
no1
yes, but he technically breaks them in this chapter its says “tore my soul into pieces and then essentially ate myself”. Also the dream with blocks was very interesting, he was rebuilding pieces of himself with everyone’s help
picakcarson
Not yet, but probably in the long run. With the Surpass: Soul Limits. Skill it will probably end up making him be able to allow him to get past the surpressers on his soul or the curses.
no1
who knows, maybe he can’t erase his curses but he might be able to reconstruct his soul in way so that the curses remain but their effects are gone. Anything could happen with this characters unusually structured body and soul
Jonathan Hurd
To be honest the curses don’t really seem like that much of an impediment. Not being able to choose already discovered jobs might of hurt but he has unlocked so many jobs unique to him that I don’t feel like he’d ever choose the garden variety ones. I actually like that the curse forces him to take the dangerous sounding jobs. Makes life more fun.
The curse that stops him from gaining exp on his kills is annoying but I feel like he’d still be leveling his current way even without it. So not much to be had getting rid of that one.
As for keeping his previous life’s experience. It’s been so long since his time in Origin and he’s grown so much I don’t think unlocking that now would change anything.
A potential problem with removing the curses in his soul also comes from the fact that they provided blank space for Vans soul. That gave him a pretty sizable chunk of mana. So if he does destroy the curses in his soul he could potentially end up losing a big chunk of mana too.
I say leave the curses there as a monument to Rodidiots failure.
no1
Okay so he hasn’t been completely impeded by the curses but with the curse “Unable to gain experience independently” he won’t be able to kill his enemies by himself, in a fight with enemies, his skill levels will still increase and he might gain and awaken new and superior skills respectively. But his level won’t increase unless he always relies on someone else to kill the enemy.
Jonathan Hurd
It is true that Van can’t get the exp himself from killing, but other than the utterly bizarre time where he was summoned to fight Heinz he has never been alone. Thankfully for Van destroying the body and destroying the Soul are counted separately. So he breaks the soul and then let’s someone else do the finishing blow like always. Basically just do what he has been doing up til now. He even got the exp when he manifested God’s to fight for him so pretty sure no need to take risks getting rid of the no solo exp curse.
picakcarson
Welp, Heinz had a few decades of a head start on Val, and can earn 10 times more exp then him (if I remember right Val only earns 10 percent of the exp from monsters when his teammates kill him) and still Val has managed to surpass him, now Val has another few months of growth to get ahead of Heinz even more, and Heinz will probably have a harder time increase now with his teammates learning the truth and Edgar being remade.
I wonder just how far Van is going to get in these few months.
Jonathan Hurd
I’m guessing Van maxes two more jobs before Heinz gets back on his feet. Maybe a third one before the five Colored blades can actually fight.
I will say in Heinzs defense there aren’t that many high level subjugation targets in the northern part of the continent. Van and his group have a stupid amount of things to hunt making their job easier. Add in Van getting exp from so all of them… Well doesn’t matter if you only get 10 percent exp if your friends kill hundreds of times the monsters.

Yay! My virgin sacrifices worked! It’s a Halloween Miracle!
Anyways, that was a nice chapter, and I’m looking forward to seeing some mother-son bonding time with Van and Darcia. I hope I finish the chapter and become diabetic!

‘Cause it’ll be sweet.
Anyways, glad to see Alda start to suffer. I’ve gotta say, though.
Alda.
Why?
Why would you give Edgar to Rodcorte?
This entire war is happening because he overstepped his authority and messed with the souls of champions for his own ends. Why would you trust him with just that, now? Just let Edgar go poof. It’d serve as good motivation for Heinz and Co. -1.
I don’t care how powerful Van is. You are only second to Van in knowing, in no uncertain terms,
RODCORTE CANNOT BE TRUSTED UNCONDITIONALLY.
Ah well, speculation time! I’m interested (if not surprised) that Rodcorte didn’t bother to explain Kanata/Hajime/Murakami, but I think Fitun might be shitting his Thunderwear regardless. And in order to ensure he gets his fight, I think he’s going to rush Van ASAP. Unprepared, underleveled, and soon to be underground.
RIP Fitun/Hajime. And Aggar. Our thoughts and prayers, yada yada yada.
And remember kids, the technical term for execution by burying the victim alive is Vivisepulture.
Vee-Vee-Sehp-Uhl-Chur.
And if you need it in a sentence.
Aggar will soon be a victim of Vivisepulture!
Jonathan Hurd
I gotta agree Alda really stop trusting Rodidiiiot. He should at least put someone to watch Rodidiot, but I guess he doesn’t really have much of a choice at this point. Rodidiot is the only one siding with him in his war to kill his own sister and Aldas kind of fighting a war on three fronts so he doesn’t have the God’s to spare.
I think Alda turned to Rodidiot because he’s just that cornered. The Five Color Blades work best as a team and were supposed to be Aldas trump card against Van. So while Edgars death would be inspiring it would destroy a lot of their morale, battle power, and the resources Alda put into him.
Of course we all know this being Rodidiot he’s going to screw this up epically somehow.
For Fitun and Murakami’s group, I think Rodidiot informed Alda of them. Rodidiot is stupid but Murakami is trying to accomplish what Alda wants might as well try to use this connection to get Murakami possible back up from the church of Alda.
For Fitun I think at this point Alda can figure out the plan and just doesn’t care. If he succeeds and kills Van, yay! If he fails well no skin off Alda’s back. Hopefully he hurts Van and gets info in that case.
All in all I agree we’re probably going to see a RIP Fitun soon. Going to laugh my butt off when I see it too.
picakcarson
Welp, not like Rodcert has the demon soul fragments or anything, plus not like he has fused the souls of important people together in a horrible way or doesn’t have common sense or anything. No sir Rodcort is the perfect person to trust with making a soul stronger, I mean he definitely wouldn’t think about putting in the demon soul into Edgar, no sir he would not.
Hobbes
And you know Rodcorte would never do anything outside his jurisdiction that he wasn’t asked to do; he just stays in his lane. And god forbid the thought that Rodcorte would underestimate the possible consequences of his actions. Everyone knows that Rodiot never makes horrible mistakes and that his plans have never gone awry.
Funky K
Thanks for the delicious chapter!!! Alda finally took some damage, on the level getting stabbed in the gut too, about damn time. Rod idiot got Edgar’s soul and we can more or less tell how that’s going to go given his track record. Finally that comment “those who have deluded themselves into thinking that they are devout followers of Vida”, really isn’t that the truth. I’ll bet we will be seeing more of those posers who are sucking up to Heinz from now on.
bk3k
Yes you can indeed count on Rodcorte to do something stupid. You don’t need to read ahead with MT to know that. But I can confirm that it is a really dumb thing that Rodcorte is sure “should be fine”. And he doesn’t tell anyone including Alda what he’s done, because “they’ll worry over nothing.”
Jonathan Hurd
We really need to start a counter of how many times Rodidiot has said “should be fine” in this series lol. I remember him saying that after just about every horrible thing he’s done to Van.
Hobbes
Nah, turn it into a drinking game. We’ll all get wasted
Ovnidemon
Wasn’t Delizah killed? How come she is the least damaged? Darcia said she just drove away Heinz soul but killed Delizah’s soul last chapter.
wai311040
I think Delizah is not in a soul form when she meet Darcia, no?
Darkhelios
Darcia herself can’t damage souls so even if she killed Delizah, she didn’t hurt her. Like she said “she was just taking out a little anger on them”.
However her being alive&her attacking Heinz seem to have hurt mentally Heinz. It just slowed his recovery but didn’t damage him more.
Maybe it would be better/clearer to just say that Heinz is having a small depression.
F234K
Delizah killed in her record body created by curatos, not her real body, so if she being killed, she will just go back to the town.
MBA
First, remember one thing: Souls can’t be broken by others.
Then let’s remember what happens when you damage a soul? In the case of Gods, they fall into slumber.
Delizah’s fake body was killed by Darcia, and her soul returned to the Town. But what about Heinz? Joshua had taken over the fake body and left Heinz’s soul out of the way of the attack, however, his soul was completely defenseless after that (Imagine naked Heinz beside clothes Delizah).
There was no fake body for Darcia to hit Heinz, she attacked his soul directly, but it’s not about breaking, just inflicting very heavy damage to a person’s core. And due to the psychological damage that he got in this fight (Learning the truth about Van and Vida, seeing Darcia alive and as his enemy this time), his healing is not being as smooth as Delizah’s
no1
True while Darcia/Vida can’t break souls like Vandalieu, she just caused damage to heinz and delizah when she attacked them. Even though heinz’s soul was attacked directly, it wasn’t destroyed, but damage like that isn’t light either, same for delizah who still had her fake body. Those two received an attack from the Goddess Vida, an attack from a goddess towards a human and dwarf, who are both mortal, will take a good amount of time to recover from.
Lord Rin
Oh great, Rodcorte is the one treating Edgar? How badly will he fuck up? It’s not even a question of will he, rather how bad.
Yeah this Aggar guy is definitely going to die. Van is already thinking about killing him and that asshole sounds like he’s gonna try to find Darcia because he thinks she’s naive and that he could probably trick her or straight up try to kidnap her to make her his. Then he’ll find out the kid he extorted is her son and do something stupid.
The Butt Wizard
“How badly will he fuck up?”

Oh man.
Very. Very. Very badly.

I tend to think of Rodcorte as “The God of Incompetence and Reincarnation too.”
And the answer is he does something really, really stupid that he’s sure is fine. So sure that he doesn’t tell anyone so they “don’t worry needlessly.” Doesn’t even warn Edgar himself about what’s been done to him.
Oshibo
Knowing Rodcorte he’d get rid of Luke’s soul and heal Edgar with the Demon King’s soul as he was already trying to find a way to use it against Van.
Mr.Darkness
“It’s not even a question of will he, rather how bad.”
I agree, Rodstupid is totally going to do something stupid. Probably he is going to use Guduranis’s soul to heal Edgar’s, or something stupid like that.
Jonathan Hurd
Using Guduranis’ soul when healing Edgar does feel like the safe bet when considering how stupid Rodidiot is. He could also potentially try to just randomly stuff other people’s parts in with Edgar and Luke under the assumption more soul the better. Those are the two stupid moves I can imagine Rodidiot taking.
I would consider him trying to give Edgar cheat abilities like the reincarnators but I think that’s only possible at birth. Whatever it turns out to be I’m sure it’ll give me plenty of laughs.
Rollrock
Rodcorte should be the god of the “Fuck up” attribute. I haven’t even seen spoilers, but I know that he is going to fail spectacularly already.
Niemand
just a quick thought but wouldn’t aldas goal to get rid of all dungeons and monsters heavily damage the economy? I mean we were told that a town starts to develop when a useful dungeon spawns near it, what would happen to a town using such a dungeon when the dungeon suddenly vanished? (on extreme example would be talosheim)
ReikoLupus
He doesn’t care if the entire of humanity suffers.
As long as his ideals are preserved, humanity can go to hell XD.
bk3k
Alda isn’t the smartest Although he isn’t as dumb as Rodcorte.
lazygeko
It would. But they got by just fine without dungeons before the demon king showed up. So he wants to return to that time. Basically, he wants to hit the reset button, doesn’t care what that entails as long as he can go back to everything before the demon king then he will work from there.
Hobbes
That’s right. He wants to pretend that none of these 100,000 years ever happened. Alda really should be called the God of Ostriches with their head in the sand.
Jonathan Hurd
From what I remember in the description of preDemon King era was kind of like Eden. Basically humans didn’t really understand disaster or Sins. They also had the God’s directly watching over them so not really any room for petty squabbles. Alda says he wants back to those days but as you might notice from his champion both are pretty short sighted.
Alda has convinced himself that Paradise can return he just needs to get rid of all the people and things that have changed. Sadly Alda doesn’t realize he and his precious humans have changed the most and is basically trapped pursuing a nostalgia that can never be achieved.
Alda is trapped in a loop. He has sacrificed and done horrible things to get back to the starting point. Every time he makes these sacrifices or horrible actions though it permanently changes him and pushes him farther from his goal. Then he tells himself too many people and things have been lost so he can’t turn back now driving him to do worse stuff stacking up more regret.
The answer to what is Alda’s plan is that there is no plan. What I find the funniest is that Alda rejected Zakkart and the others worlds values and wants to bring back the old ways, but if you compare Alda and Vidas societies. In Aldas humans became self interested monsters who formed hierarchies and social status levels like our world. Vidas societies however greatly resemble Aldas dream. People working together not warring with each other while directly listening to the God’s.
The problem with Alda is what he decided to ban and what he allowed. He is all for persecution and violence, but hates technology. He thinks they shouldn’t make gun powder cause that causes wars and destruction, but then he promotes racism and genocide…
Alda has no idea what he is even fighting for from the very get go. Bellwood told him certain things are bad and instead of thinking about any of it or the consequences he just started killing and has never stopped.
franz941
Sometimes I feel bad for alda, he literally had a mental breakdown after losing nearly everything to gudarandis and then the only left with him was bellwood that tricked him(and everyone else).
He just created the delusions that he can make everything go back as it was before if he ban everything bellwood doesn’t want while everyone else does what he said.
He should be the god of justice and law, that are subjet to change but cause he lost his mind he fought against change and become the god tyranny and injustice even thought all he wanted is that everyone (better say everyone he considered human) go back to better times.
It’s quite sad because if any of his brothers or someone other that that snake of bellwood was with him he probably would be different.
There was vida but we know that after the war vida left him alone cause she thought that they left zakkard and the other to die(i think bellwood orchestrated that alone as the scum that he is) and to begin with he and vida were like cat and dog.
Jonathan Hurd
I’m not sure anyone could of gotten through to Alda by the end sadly. There is a good reason Vida left Alda and the rest. That was because they never listened to start with. Even when Alda was reflecting a hundred thousand years later he still admits he wouldn’t have budged on anything. His one kind of regret was fighting his sister but even that didn’t stop him deciding to now try and strip her of her position as a God.
I find that I personally can’t really sympathize with Alda personally. I understand that he and Vida were both grief stricken at the end, but he never tried to understand her or anyone else. Instead of working together like they should after such a catastrophic war he instead immediately started a second one.
He doesn’t trust anyone to make decisions. That’s why he keeps trying to micromanage humanity, but there is no thought put into his instructions so they keep backfiring. Afterwards he then just puts the blame on everyone else.
In the end Alda is just a giant brat. He’s decided if he can’t convince people to only follow his way he’ll just kill them. Even if they are his own sister. He refuses to admit his mistakes instead just doubling and tripling down out of sheer obstinance. He also stubbornly has allied himself with the person no one likes or trusts Rodcorte because Rodcorte is the only one who will agree with him.
Alda long ago proved that he is incapable of remorse. At this point he doesn’t deserve pity, but to be put down like the rabid dog he has become.
MeiOuSei
Like catholisism in the Middle Age, but harsher
MeiOuSei
Leaving Bellwood’s influence aside, you’re right about Vida and Alda being like cats and dogs, but that makes me think of the Asian concept of yin-yang. I dare to say that they are necessary to each other, that even if they struggle, they are essential forces of the world. What Alda needs to do is to try being a bit more flexible.
.
.
.
But that might be impossible
Hobbes
That will be impossible until he is staring down Van’s World Piercing Hollow Cannon at point-blank range and even then it’s far from guaranteed.
Blackpercher
if Aldas vision comes true
Humans will kill eachother instead…
MintyMints
We’ve already seen plenty of “humans” killing each other or attempting to wether it was directly or indirectly.
Also I believe Alda already acknowledged this would likely happen based on his knowledge about they’re champions earth history.
Paps
HAHAHAHAHA Thanks for the chapter, it was a nice touch how at the end Van acte all mothercom x100 and at the same time reproshed himself.
Guroga
I indeed was expecting Aggar to die but guess he lives…for now.
Jonathan Hurd
Vans not going to kill Agar… He’s just going to quickly take him to a back alley and have a quick little talk(with mental encroachment) about how you shouldn’t extort kid refugees or hit on their mom’s…
Morgan
This is heartwarming. 200 chapters and finally the mother-son bonding time is back. Read a few other comments and I agree that Van’s dream this time is probably him using the souls he’s devoured to rebuild his own soul.
Mr.Darkness
“All of Alda’s subordinates combined could not fill the gap left behind by Curatos.” I knew it! Alda is totally fucked now!!!

I have a hunch, Rodcorte will repair Egdar soul, not only with luke, but also it will be merged with one of demon king soul fragment.
Dreamy
Me too, I thought about this… x)
Rodcorte can do only mistakes or “bad things”…. >_< xD
no1
Hmm as reckless, impulsive and irresponsible as Rodcorte has been lately with allowing Vandalieu’s soul enter Lambda without checking it first, letting someone as dangerous as Kanata rampage around Lambda, and trying to sever himself from Lambda without thinking it through first. It does seem likely he will trying something like that on Edgar’s soul. It’s funny how Alda is leaving Rodcorte unsupervised after all the easily avoidable mistakes that were made.
Hobbes
Everyone knows that Rodcorte works best on his own. Just look at his great track record and impeccable decision making thus far.
Galeblaze
To be fair to Alda, not that I WANT to be, he is unaware of two of those points, and thinks that Van is a problem mostly due to the fact that he is the soul that was created from the four creation champions, not due to the fact that Rodcorte managed to make an enemy out of Van.

Even though he was not able to break and devour the souls of those 3, he was able to damage their souls somewhat. If you ever watch Naruto, damage to the soul tends to effect the body
Rudeus
I’m sorry, but what does naruto have to do with death mage? If you go back to Van’s flight with kanata, besides the pain he felt from the damaging of his soul, there was no effect to his body at all. His body simply went limp from the fact there was no will moving it anymore.
Jonathan Hurd
I think Naruto has a lot to do with the ninja culture in the southern part of the continent. Them wanting to make shadow clones and summon giant frogs, but yeah can’t personally remember the soul parts of Naruto though it has been a long time.
no1
I was referring to when one of the characters in naruto had a part of his soul devoured which resulted a part of his body permanently damaged. Didn’t know people weren’t that familiar with naruto, my bad.
no1
Yeah but in this chapter it mentioned that edgar had symptoms from the damages to his soul like being unable to move his body. Also I was referring to when one of the characters in naruto had a part of his soul devoured which resulted a part of his body being permanently damaged(orochimaru). Didn’t know people weren’t that familiar with naruto, my bad.

Yeah even though the last chapter was titled a draw? a huge defeat? Vandalieu was able to deal a crippling blow to the 5 of them
kazamakj
Not a complete victory but a really big blow to the forces of Alda for sure.
Darkhelios
Vandalieu considered that it was a draw due to the fact that Heinz&cie managed to repel him and that he wasn’t able to complete his main objective (= killing Heinz&Edgar&Delizah).
After all, preventing one enemy to complete his goal is also a victory.
However this small victory was very costly for Alda while Vandalieu didn’t lose anything (except revealing a few cards… but this new data will surely be outdated soon enough).
lazygeko
To add on: Van victory conditions were to destroy the souls of his 3 enemies. Heinz victory conditions(though he didn’t know it) was to survive and get away, he chose to kill Van to achieve this. So Van considers it a draw. No one achieved their conditions fully. Curatos considered a big loss, after a god died and half the dungeon destroyed.
Jonathan Hurd
Heinz’s main goal was to stop Van from destroying the dungeon. The method to that he chose was kill Van. Van ended up not only destroying a third of the dungeon(all levels Heinz and crew haven’t run yet), but Van also ate the God in charge of the training dungeon as well. He did however stop Van from fully destroying the dungeon so technically a draw in my book. Both had their goals accomplished but only part way.
Diggydawg
lolz. Van gave them a pretty decisive blow there, damaged the resolve of 2 members, critically damaged the soul of 1 and moderately damaged the souls of 2 of the hero team, on the other hand, Van’s injuries will only need a week to heal tops… Things are looking pretty bleak for team Alda, so they’ll be sitting back while the reincarnators take their turn.
Jeanean
And dont forget, the damage he needs to heal for a week is the one he did to himself… XD
Seinvolf
Thank u always for ur great work…

Vandalieu talking to Jennifer and Diana about their mistakes regarding ghouls and majins reminds me of MC in tales of herding demons and gods when he convinces a buddha to commit suicide.
Lord Rin
Hopefully these two can actually be persuaded to at least leave the group. They got months to think about what they learned without having assholes like Edgar jumping in to reaffirm their beliefs.
Jonathan Hurd
I think there is a higher chance they change how they view killing Ghouls and Majin now thanks to the months away from Aldas yes men. Hope they stick to the change, but if not then just gotta add them to the list of people for Van to eat.
adabana
thank you for the chapter.
oh darcia forget heiny and buds remembering how you look they won’t remember their names right now
Dash
Somehow, I feel like this reconstruction that’s going on in his “dream” will determine his future growth path. I wonder if Van rebuilt his soul to match his body, he’d have more control over his mana.
tristo
ya. hes had a lot of “dreams” that lead to big changes but never really seems to think about that in the moment lol
gomezseba37
i hope he gets a skill like “soul surgeon” or something like taht so he can remove his curses i think that would cause direct damage to rodcorte
observer6322
Just breaking and rebuilding his own soul might have already removed them.
Cr1m50nR3ap3r
That could happen as he has more a lot more mana than a low God which is 200 million and if my theory is correct a high gods or gods on par with Vida and Alda manga should be around 600 million+
Sebas Tian
100 million is low god and pillar gods like Alda are supposed to have billions of mana. Divine power is the thing that matters most though and most of his is spent on maintaining the world and maintaining the seals on the DK soul fragments he has. As a reminder, Roddy has two soul fragments, Alda has two, and a powerful god from the time of the DK war who is on Alda’s side has the fifth and final soul fragment. We don’t know which of the fragments are with who, but the five fragments are Memory, Instinct, Power, Emotion, and Reason.
Jonathan Hurd
I’d say Alda is probably dealing with more than sealing just the DKs Soul parts but probably even more pieces of the body. They did end up getting all the parts Zantark and crew threw at them and Alda probably started with more anyways considering he is a Major God and is good at sealing.
Hobbes
Are you sure about how those are divied up? I don’t think the author has explicitly stated that at any point until now unless it wasn’t translated yet…
no1
I felt like that dream he had with a lot of blocks was him inside of his “stomach” where the souls he devours goes. All the blocks were dismantled/destroyed souls and he is trying to rebuild his own soul. Also this is the second times the 4 champions souls were broken and the first time those souls were devoured, just noticed that
Darkhelios
Yep. Before it was just a presentiment but now I think it’s certain that RodIdiot will do something stupid. After all, that what he do everytime he tries to do something… Poor Edgar. I hate him but I still believe he doesn’t deserve this… He should have gone back to Vandalieu and vanished.
Jennifer and Diana seem like they have a good chance of redemption. They are regretting their previous actions against the Ghouls & Majins. Compared to Heinz&Edgar and their “We know that they’re Vida races but we still need to exterminate them without any reasons. Oh. By the way, we’re Alda’s peaceful faction!”, it’s definitively a huge improvement. I hope they will manage to break free from Heinz/Alda’s bad influence.
Feniz
Well. I still think they won’t change. After all they are under the effect of Heinz guidance. So if Heinz says it’s necessary i think they would still do things
Tejing
But heinz won’t be around for a while to say anything, so they might.
Jonathan Hurd
Guidance does have effects on those you lead, but Heinz has no way to force people to follow. Even Van doesn’t his charm skill just helps lure those near the path onto it.
I definitely feel like Diana and Jennifer aren’t going anywhere, but I feel the same for their doubts. They’re not stupid or like Alda’s yes men. Even if Alda’s God’s come down to try and convince them well the whole point of their journey was supposed to be convincing the God’s back.
Another part is I don’t think Heinz is in any condition to convince others of things even after he leaves Mills Divine Realm. He would need some rock solid reasoning as well to explain why they can keep being Alda’s peaceful faction while indiscriminately killing Vida’s races.
Rifaman
Thanks for the update

Superboy8338
Well at least those 5 Loser Blades will be out of the picture for a while. Another good thing Is that it will take AT LEAST 1 whole year before all the “heroes” to assemble and wage war on Van which is more than enough time for him and his people to get to Frieza Saga levels of power.
bk3k
That’s the problem specifically of assembling them in one place to attack. Van and his crew can easily move in the mean time. They have a rather extreme mobility edge.
Jonathan Hurd
I do find that part really funny. While I was reading their strategy I just kept thinking to myself “you know if Van just leaves the Duchy a year worth of effort goes down the drain”. Van could honestly start trolling Alda by just randomly popping up in different duchies making Alda and crew lost shut tons of time.
ReikoLupus
This needs to be said:
For the first time in their life, mother and son are going to buy things together, work together, and spend time together as a normal family. Holding hands, getting distracted by something interesting, without anyone else.
…This makes me happy XD.
lazygeko
I was also thinking this. Time for some heartwarming family time, now with real bodies.
JeKeBe
I’d love to see a bit more of this before going back to the murderfest, but I have the suspicion that Aggar is going to volunteer for his own doom.
SaMu
Going on platonic mother-son dates, going on mixed baths, wholesome skinship… Adopt me! Please 😭
Jeanean
For the first time in ALL their lifes!
(Vandalieu 3 lifes and Darcia… maybe 3 as well if living extended periods as a ghost can be considered as a “life”?)
Sebas Tian
Darcia is on her second life. Even the undead can be considered as on an extended first life.
Decaf [Invidia]
Aggar has terrible judgement, extorting a demon king, and lecherously approaching Vida’s incarnation. Can’t wait for him to eventually become an undead.
Kest here is actually one of the few beastkin that has been introduced in the story, most of the other races aside from human so far are either some variation of undead or demonic/ghoulike or they’re insectoid, so having a beastkin race person appear is rather refreshing.
Aaaaaand…. Darcia revealed a portion of her new powers as the holy mother, and she’s more concerned with the enemy camp’s recollection of her magical girl outfit. Lol.
Sebas Tian
Bellmond is a beastkin turned vampire. There were beastkin in the cultivation villages that Van saved, including that one kid who almost got eaten by orcs while he tried to protect the girl he liked.
Tejing
Well, Aggar is not going to fare well. It’s only a matter of time.
Also, it’s cool that chaos elves can pass for dark elves (or probably even normal elves) if they want, I didn’t think of that application of the chaos skill.
I wonder just how many priests of Alda freaked out across the world… that’s gonna scare some people.
