Thanks to Yogi ($150) for sponsoring this chapter!
It’s currently Golden Week in Japan (a long series of public holidays), and I’ve spent 3 days of it translating, so the first 2 chapters of the next volume have been translated. They are currently in editing and will be released shortly.
This chapter was the last chapter in the current sponsored chapter queue, but the next chapters will be released anyway, as soon as editing is done.
As always, thanks for reading!
Yoshi
Baldiria – Dwarf, 79 years old, female
The ‘Knight of a Thousand Blades,’ one of the Five Knights of Alcrem who serve as the elite force of the Alcrem Duchy. She took part in the plan to retake the former Scylla Territory organized by the Sauron house, where she suffered the tragic loss of both her arms, and she was undergoing training to master the use of her new artificial arms.
The above was just a pretext made up for her current residence in Silkie Zakkart Mansion; the loss of her arms was a fabrication and her arms are actually healthy and intact.
She wore metal gauntlets on both arms to make them look like artificial arms during outings and meetings with people who were unaware of the truth.
But the gauntlets are not just for appearance; they are a special kind of Living Armor that contain the spirit of someone who was apparently a knight of the Sauron Duchy, and like Simon and Natania’s artificial limbs, they are transformation equipment made of liquid metal. Baldiria has also received training to use these in battle and acquired the ‘Spirit Form’ Skill.
When Rikudou unleashed monsters upon the city, she used these gauntlets to defeat monsters with rocket punch attacks (although it was only her gauntlets that flew as projectiles).
After the incident, the secret alliance between the Alcrem Duchy and the Demon Empire of Vidal was made public, allowing the fact that her arms were not severed to be made public as well.
Thus, she thought her days of living under the same roof as Darcia, whom she reveres and calls ‘Onee-sama,’ would come to an end. However, because Vandalieu wishes to continue attending the Hero Preparatory School, Baldiria ended up continuing to live at Silkie Zakkart Mansion… though it could be said that Duke Alcrem simply forgot to recall her to the Alcrem Duchy.
She does want Vandalieu’s school life to continue, but a part of her also wishes that he would just attend the school forever, so it can’t exactly be said that she’s on his side.
Bravatiyu – Human, 66 years old (20 years old in appearance), male
The secret child of the late ‘Knight of Roaring Flames,’ Bravatiyu Jr… or rather, Bravatiyu himself.
He has been going by the name ‘Bravatiyu Jr.’ in public, but after the incident, Vandalieu made his true identity and his alliance with the Alcrem Duchy public, allowing Bravatiyu to be known as the ‘Knight of Roaring Flames’ once more.
Incidentally, during the time the public believed he had fallen in the battle to retake the former Scylla territory, his wife pretended to ‘go into mourning’ and holed up in their residence, avoiding social outings, in order to prevent the truth from becoming known.
It was perhaps his son who suffered more, as he had no choice but to call himself the new head of the house in public.
Katie Hartner – Human, 6 years old, female
The reincarnated individual who was known as the ‘Urðr’ Kay Mackenzie in her previous life. Using her position as the daughter of the Hartner house, she has managed to make contact with Vandalieu and successfully negotiated with him to ensure the safety of her family.
… In truth, Vandalieu had no intentions of taking proactive steps to destroy the Hartner house, so these negotiations concluded without any difficulty. The truly difficult part was persuading her father Lucas Hartner and his subjects, as she is still just a six-year-old girl no matter how clever she is considered to be, and many more difficulties lie ahead.
However, as a result of the incident caused by Rikudou Hijiri, Vandalieu has made the existence of the Demon Empire of Vidal public, and this became a turning point for Katie – though it was a close call, as her father Lucas almost formed an alliance with the Farzon Duchy and took a hostile stance towards the Demon Empire of Vidal.
But she can’t rest easy just yet, as there are those in the Hartner Duchy who wish to have her marry into the Demon Empire as a part of reparations for the Hartner house’s past deeds.
Vandalieu believes that if such a political marriage were to happen, an appropriate partner would be Sieg, the son of the former emperor Marshukzarl who was adopted by the Pure-breed Vampire Zorcodrio, or Sarua Legston, the nephew of Chezare, who serves as the general and prime minister of the Demon Empire of Vidal.
All three of them considered each other friends in the past, but there were no romantic feelings between them, so they are praying that this will never happen.
Rudel Sauron – Human, 30 years old, male
The current duke of the Sauron Duchy. However, when he took the position of duke, he treated the achievements of the resistance who fought hard against the Amid Empire forces occupying the duchy as if they never existed, and put pressure on the inhabitants of the villages who supported the resistance.
This caused Vandalieu to quickly decide against expecting anything from him and occupy the former Scylla territory.
With things being as they were, the threat of Vandalieu invading at some opportune timing and quickly slaying Rudel was always present. However, with the recent incident, Rudel was blessed with the opportunity to surrender before that could happen… though he does not actually understand how fortunate he is.
This is exactly what you wanted, isn’t it?! he thought furiously as he took steps to hand over the position of duke to Elizabeth, who has close ties with Vandalieu, but he is not yet aware that Elizabeth no longer sees any value in becoming the head of the Sauron house.
His treatment of the resistance was instigated in part by Marshal Dolmad, and other than that, he did not make any terrible decisions regarding the governance of his people or deliberately persecute members of Vida’s races. However, because Vandalieu only formed connections with those who suffered at Rudel’s hands, he became seen as an enemy by Vandalieu. He is an unfortunate individual who has had bad timing with a variety of things.
Veedal Sauron – Human, 20 years old, male
The fifth son of the previous Duke Sauron. Ordinarily, he wouldn’t have been in any position to contest the position of duke. But because the eldest son of the house, his half-brother, was killed during the invasion by the Amid Empire, he stepped forth as a candidate to become the head of the house.
However, he was defeated by Rudel, and he secured a reasonably high position for himself as one of Rudel’s vassals, albeit with some reluctance.
During the conflict over the position of duke, he spread rumors that Elizabeth was an illegitimate child – in other words, that she was a daughter born between Amelia and a man other than Duke Sauron – in order to kick Elizabeth to the dirt.
He regarded Elizabeth with contempt, never once considering her to be his sister, and he believed that the methods he employed were only natural in a conflict to become head of the house.
Although he was serving as something like an ambassador at the Sauron house’s residence in Orbaume, his mind was broken when he witnessed the power of Vandalieu and his companions as they forcibly evacuated him to safety.
He groveled at Elizabeth’s feet and begged for forgiveness, and Vandalieu mistook him for an ‘experienced degenerate,’ but his change in attitude was significant enough to draw some admiration.
Alex – Human, 13 years old, male
A fairly handsome boy who is an honors student at the Hero Preparatory School and possesses the Unique Skill known as the ‘Demon Eyes of Great Appraisal.’
Although he is from a farming village, he made use of his ‘Demon Eyes of Great Appraisal,’ which allow him to see a target’s Status and how much more progress is needed for them to acquire Skills and increase their Levels, to gain an understanding of his own qualities and become skilled enough to pass the entrance examination for the Hero Preparatory School.
Perhaps due to this, he has a strong tendency to judge people by their Statuses, which he can see with the ‘Demon Eyes of Great Appraisal,’ and whether or not they have any Unique Skills. The party he formed after entering the Hero Preparatory School was chosen based on this information. Annabelle, the half-Elf girl in his party, is a childhood friend of his that Alex saw a talent for magic in. He informed her of her latent talent, helped her make it bloom, and invited her to attend the Hero Preparatory School with him.
He recruited Robin, a dual-spear-wielder, and Towa, a rabbit-type Beast-kin scout, after seeing that they possessed Unique Skills.
However, he has no ill intentions and is not an evil person. He has simply decided on a standard of talent that people should meet if they are to become companions that he will likely end up forming deep bonds with, and he is just using the ‘Demon Eyes of Great Appraisal’ as a method to assess people on that standard.
He does not publicly display his discrimination of people based on ability, and generally conducts himself as an amicable person, so he is known to be of friendly character – though this is not to conceal his true character, but rather to conceal his Unique Skill, the ‘Demon Eyes of Great Appraisal,’ as he would become targeted if it were to become known that he possesses it.
As he made a name for himself at the Hero Preparatory School, Elizabeth and her companions attempted to recruit him into their own party, but he refused them because their talent did not meet his standards, because he knew of the troublesome circumstances that Elizabeth was in, and finally, because her lackeys had an attitude of looking down on commoners, causing him to judge them as people who are of no value to be companions with.
He was more interested in Pauvina, a new student at the school, than in Elizabeth and her party, but… Vandalieu became one of her lackeys, and he failed to take notice.
After that, he attempted to look at Vandalieu’s Status with the ‘Demon Eyes of Great Appraisal,’ but due to the overwhelming difference in strength between them, he wasn’t able to. In fact, it was Vandalieu who ended up seeing his Status with his ‘Root Source’ Skill. Vandalieu realized that someone had seen his Status, and Alex ended up nearly being killed by him, but his life was saved by Dandolip-sensei (Randolf) who rushed to the scene.
This made him realize that he still falls far short of the truly powerful beings in this world, and he has been working hard to improve himself along with his companions.
Vandalieu simply treats him as a standard for Elizabeth and the others to compare themselves against. Due to his terrible first impression of Alex and the incompatibility of their personalities, it seems that he has no intention of recruiting him as an ally.
If Alex had been attending an Adventurers’ School in another duchy rather than the one in Orbaume, it is highly likely that Alda or his subordinate gods would have attempted to get their hands on him as a potential hero. The reason things didn’t turn out this way is because they feared that he might be guided by Vandalieu when they came into contact with one another.
Heinz – Human, 30 years old (20 years old in appearance), male
The leader of the Five-Colored Blades and the hero of Alda who awakened the Heroic God Bellwood. He represents the most powerful combat asset possessed by Alda’s forces in the world of Lambda.
Because he is aware of this, he ignored Vandalieu’s repeated warnings to stay away from Orbaume and went to Orbaume with his companions to deal with Rikudou Hijiri, an enemy that Vandalieu did not outright say that he could defeat.
He believed that he would be able to fight alongside Vandalieu if there was a common enemy, but when he entered the battlefield, Vandalieu attacked both him and Rikudou, as they were both enemies to him.
And although Jennifer and Diana are members of the Five-colored Blades, they are not among the individuals that Vandalieu wishes to take revenge upon, so Rikudou ended up using them as shields. This forced Heinz to effectively cooperate with Rikudou in order to avoid being killed by Vandalieu, something he never intended to do.
After Guduranis’s resurrection, Vandalieu stopped targeting Heinz, but Heinz had already become unable to trust Vandalieu, so they did not cooperate with one another during the battle.
His well-trained swordsmanship had become powerful enough to cause Guduranis’s ‘Danger Sense: Death’ to react – in other words, it had become powerful enough to threaten Guduranis’s life – but it was insufficient to defeat Guduranis, and it was Vandalieu who delivered the final blow.
With his dying breath, Guduranis uttered a half-curse, half-declaration that he would one day be resurrected. Unable to rule out the possibility that this declaration would one day come true, and unable to believe that Vandalieu would be able to withstand Guduranis’s attempts to be resurrected, Heinz declared hostility towards Vandalieu once more and charged into battle, ready to die. But Nineroad forcibly teleported him away from the scene, and the people of Orbaume now consider his whereabouts to be unknown.
Edgar – Human (?), 33 years old (27 years old in appearance), male
The scout and archer of the Five-colored Blades who possessed the Title of ‘Ash Blade.’ He originally had an aloof personality and provided some balance to the party, and he often served as a frontline fighter with his dagger after the ‘Green Wind Spear’ Riley left the party.
He was left in an almost completely disabled state after his soul was heavily wounded by Vandalieu, and Rodcorte used the soul dust of the Demon King to repair his soul. This led to his thoughts and emotions being guided by Guduranis.
He was killed during the battle against Rikudou, triggering Guduranis’s resurrection, but the general public perceives his death as the tragic death of a hero.
This is because the battle took place in the sky, too far above the ground for conversations to be heard, and because Guduranis’s resurrection was caused by the compositions of the souls of those involved, something that cannot be seen.
However, Edgar’s death is rapidly becoming less significant because of what Vandalieu and his companions achieved, and because they still remain in Orbaume to rebuild and restore the city.
Rikudou Hijiri – Demigod, 0 years old, male
Rikudou Hijiri failed to achieve his ambition to become a god in the world of Origin in his previous life, but by whispering sweet-sounding words to Prime Minister Tercatanis, he succeeded in being reincarnated in the world of Lambda.
His objective was to erase Vandalieu from existence… and to rule as the sole god of the world of Lambda.
His final goal was to seal away or otherwise eliminate not only the gods of Vida’s faction, but the gods of Alda’s forces as well, and then make the entire world a single theocratic nation that worshiped him.
In order to reincarnate Rikudou as a demigod, Rodcorte implanted the Demon King’s memories and the Demon King’s instinct – fragments of the Guduranis’s soul – into Rikudou’s soul. This made it possible for him to control a physical body created from the fragments of the Demon King that were secretly gathered by Prime Minister Tercatanis.
However, his belief that he was in complete control over the Demon King’s memories and instinct was a false one planted in his mind by Guduranis’s soul, and Guduranis was in fact guiding him in order to ensure his own resurrection.
By killing Edgar, he absorbed the Demon King’s soul dust within Edgar’s soul, and he was completely taken over by Guduranis.
When he was still just a human, he had a patient, rational personality that allowed him to make his plans while concealing his ambitions and arrogance, but after he became Arch Avalon and then Dark Avalon, his true nature emerged and he was unable to return to his previous self.
He believed himself to be a being above all creation, and had no doubt that him being so was how the world should be. Although he did somewhat treasure Moriya and the others who were companions that were so loyal to him that they were willing to die for him, he decided everyone else’s worth by how he could use them.
Of course, he thought nothing of the suffering of innocent people that his ambitions had caused. The same goes for Tercatanis, whom he deceived and used.
He is willing to do anything for the sake of his ambitions, such as his use of the Five-colored Blades in order to try to kill Vandalieu. His cunning nature was used to its fullest; he did not suffer any damage to his ego from having to use beings beneath himself in order to avoid being killed.
He made much use of fragments such as the Demon King’s nose, the Demon King’s sebaceous glands, and the Demon King’s paw pads because Vandalieu had an overwhelming advantage in death-attribute magic, making it impossible to fight without the Demon King fragments. It was certainly not because he had some pathological obsession with noses.
The name ‘Dark Avalon’ was coined by Isla; he never referred to himself by that name a single time.
Guduranis – Demon King, ? years old, male (?)
The Demon King who came from a world whose name is unknown and is simply referred to as ‘the Demon King’s world,’ and invaded the world of Lambda a hundred thousand years ago.
He broke the souls of the great gods Ganpaplio, Marduke, Zerno, and Shizarion, sealed away Botin, heavily wounded Peria, Ricklent, and Zuruwarn, and killed and destroyed the souls of four champions including Zakkart.
His power was thought to be very similar to death-attribute magic, but it turned out that this was no mere resemblance; he was indeed a user of death-attribute magic. He never declared this fact because he disliked his own abilities being known, and because he felt no need to leave records that he uses a kind of magic that nobody else is able to use.
It is unclear as to why Guduranis did not possess an affinity for any other attribute, or what events took place in the Demon King’s world, a world that is undoubtedly completely different to Origin and Lambda. Gufadgarn and Fidirg know nothing of Guduranis’s early life or anything about him before he became the Demon King… To begin with, they did not see any point in learning these things.
Although Guduranis was able to break souls, there were conditions that had to be met for him to do so, unlike Vandalieu. For those with physical bodies, it was necessary for him to kill them, and for beings without physical bodies such as gods, it was necessary for him to inflict heavy enough damage to render them unable to act.
He sealed Botin away rather than destroying her because he did not have time to inflict the heavy damage necessary to her and her subordinate gods, so he was forced to create a seal, which he could do quickly and with less effort. As for Ricklent and the others, they were able to escape before the conditions for their souls to be destroyed were met, or their allies came to save them in time.
Guduranis possessed a tremendous amount of Vitality; he could not be killed even after his body was shredded to pieces, and the only way to stop him for good was to tear his soul into multiple pieces.
But after his soul dust was implanted in Edgar, he guided Edgar’s thoughts and emotions to bring about his own resurrection.
This is why Edgar carried out reckless attacks against Vandalieu and possessed a deep hatred for him. To Guduranis, Vandalieu was someone who was toying with and desecrating his body while he was sealed away.
On the other hand, he lost interest in Bellwood, the one who slew him, after seeing how feeble-willed he had become.
Initially, Guduranis had planned to have Edgar killed by Vandalieu in order to have Vandalieu absorb his soul dust, bringing it into contact with the Demon King fragments that Vandalieu had absorbed and allowing Guduranis to take control over his own body.
However, after Rodcorte implanted the Demon King’s instinct and memories in Rikudou, Guduranis’s plans changed. He manipulated Edgar to be killed by Rikudou and successfully took control over the body that Rikudou controlled, which was made entirely from fragments of the Demon King.
It could be said that Guduranis is the one who benefited the most from Rodcorte and Rikudou’s schemes.
However, because combining just the Demon King’s instinct, memories, and soul dust came far short of reconstructing the Demon King’s soul, he made up for the missing parts using Rikudou’s soul, making his resurrection imperfect.
As a result, when facing Vandalieu, he could not choose to retreat , and he over-prioritized his objective of taking back control over his own body, causing him to be defeated and devoured.
He is arrogant in nature, but he is flexible and can devise crafty schemes when necessary. However, he lacks understanding when it comes to humans, and that is why he was defeated by Bellwood in the past… He never expected that Bellwood, who had declared that he would protect the world and its people, would carry out such a reckless plan involving the mobilization of every available fighter that would shrink the world’s total population to a mere three thousand.
However, his defeat this time was not due to his shallow understanding of humans, but because he could never have expected that the parts of his body that had been absorbed by Vandalieu would change in nature and truly become a part of Vandalieu.
Even as he was devoured by Vandalieu, he screamed a curse, vowing that he would lurk in Vandalieu’s body and one day take over it, but there are no signs of this coming true for now.
Rodcorte – God of Reincarnation, ? years old, male
The God of Reincarnation who has finally been spiritually impaled with stakes. He kept his scheme with Rikudou Hijiri a secret from Alda… and carried out the scheme knowing that Rikudou’s eventual goal included eliminating Alda. Thus, one could say that he reaped what he sowed.
His plan was to cut the world of Lambda away from his circle of transmigration system after Rikudou killed Vandalieu and destroyed the Demon Empire of Vidal, the nation ruled by Vandalieu.
As long as he could at least cut the world of Lambda away from his system, he wouldn’t have cared what happened to it afterwards – even if it was destroyed, it wouldn’t harm him in the slightest. But with Guduranis’s unexpected resurrection, that plan came to a screeching halt.
Even so, Rodcorte thought that things would go according to his initial expectations and Guduranis would kill Vandalieu, and after that, he would annihilate all human races in Lambda or whatever he wanted to do, and Rodcorte would be able to continue with his plan. With that in mind, he was praying for Guduranis’s victory, but it was Vandalieu who was victorious. Thus, he reluctantly thought of fully cooperating with Alda from now on, but Alda’s patience had already reached its limits from the moment he visited Rodcorte’s divine realm.
It is possible that because Rodcorte’s own boundaries are vague, he was overly confident that gods and people would follow his expectations of how they would feel and what they would do.
Although Rodcorte is superior to Alda as a god, because he has been recognized as a god of Lambda, he could not resist the effects of Alda’s Stakes of Law.
If Alda were to try and impale other gods or Vandalieu with the Stakes of Law… they would be at no risk as long as they remained far enough away that he could not reach them with the Stakes.
In other words, unless he were to catch them very much off-guard or they are already weakened to the point that they cannot put up any resistance, it is impossible for Alda to apply his Stakes of Law to them. Rodcorte was not wary of an attack from Alda in the slightest; he was impaled because he was completely defenseless.
Following Rodcorte’s impaling, Alda has dispatched a familiar spirit to monitor him. Zuruwarn has been secretly entering the Divine Realm, plotting something with Aran and the other familiar spirits of Rodcorte, but this has gone unnoticed by Alda’s familiar spirit.

Impossible to measure, honorary consultants: Yamata and Tiamat
Pauvina, Oniwaka, and Juliana are climbing the rankings rapidly as they approach their growth periods. Miriam has shown a modest increase as well. The newcomers – Elizabeth, Amelia, Mahelia and Zona – put up a good fight, but they could not overcome the thick walls of the upper ranks. Gabriel has managed to grow enough to surpass the competition at the bottom ranks. Jane Doe had previously not competed in the rankings for the same reason as Yamata, but because her countless bodies all have the same appearance, she has made an appearance this time.

As much as I don’t like Rodiot I do love the fact he didn’t tell “Dark Avalon” that it would be impossible in Lambda to be the only god as multiple are require for each attribute.

Yes! Volume 14 has finally ended. It was a great volume, but it’s finally complete. And now we can move onto volume 15. So now it is official that Guduranis does use death attribute magic, because until now the character say Vandalieu’s magic attribute is similar to Guduranis’. And I thought Guduranis breaks souls like Vandalieu. All of Vandalieu’s attack can break souls but Guduranis needs to wear an opponent down and kill them to finally break their soul. If Guduranis realized this before he was destroyed and had the leeway, I wonder if the fact that Vandalieu can break souls better than him would’ve humiliated him further. And since the author didn’t let Rikudou die in Origin and brought him to Lambda, I’m also expecting Guduranis to return again and possibly more warped as before. Anyway thanks for the volume Yoshi and looking forward to the next volume 🙂

With Rikidou and Gudaranis devoured and Rodcorte indisposed atm, what Alda plans to do about Vandalieu’s increasing powerbase seems an impossible task. So many gods and demigods were lost defending Botin and the heroes they groomed are being guided towards joining Van, or least looking at him in a favourable light. Alda’s list of allies and pawns is dwindling to the point I doubt he could actually stop Van from crushing the Amid Empire. I guess that means it’s endgame time, Ragnarok only the good guys are clearly the side with the advantages. Good luck Alda, lol
Libio
From what ex- emperor said, Alda probably plans to use AE weapon against Van, so his priority isn’t defending it, but using it as effectively as possible to inflict as much damage as possible. There are possible other places in world, where his faith exists and even if not, he can be crazy enough, to try repeating Bellwood maneuver and sacrifice majority of population for defeat Demon King and leaving him with population 3 000. He probably doesn’t realize, it would be different situation from past, with devil nests grow from first war, so big lost of population would result in loss of control over their expansion. Even now, they can’t fully control it, so this would be basically death end for Alda’s plan.
FrogAku
I think @libio is mostly correct. Alda seems to feel that recent (just pre- and post Van especially) events have proven that letting humans (in all their flavors approved by HIM) run things isn’t the best option. It’s been mentioned repeatedly in the comments over the years that Alda as a being of Order probably wants to return everything within his control (careful note) to as close as possible as it was prior to the Demon Kings invasion. The Gods will provide Order and Direction, and Alda will make sure it’s a correct Order and Direction. The biggest outlier in my prior expectations was Bellwood, will all our arguments about Bellwood controlling (directly or indirectly) Alda, but even that has been brought down by Bellwood’s descent into a passive role. So yeah, I’d bet that Alda -thinks- he can raise a vast army given his control of the Pope (whom we’ve heard very little about for some time now) and go for a knock-down battle to eliminate Vida’s ever growing influence before the Gods on her side become even stronger, and he loses MORE of his faction. The consequences would be likely unrecoverable even if he won, and I think the scales have tipped too far in Van/Vida’s direction anyway. And I fully trust human self-interest in not being wiped out in an at-best devastating war will come as a very unpleasant surprise to Alda.

Remaining big outlier possibilities: Nineroad. I bet they have a MUCH better understanding of the costs and losses as well as the weakness of human nature outside of Zealots than Alda ever could. And she already mentioned some regret over the choices made after the last war, but didn’t see a better option and/or felt it was too late.

He’ll continue as is. I mean for the past 100,000 years he has stayed on the same tack and accomplished nothing yet he won’t change his goals because of the sunk cost fallacy. He believes he’s sacrificed too much to suddenly change what he’s doing so he bullheadedly pushes forward.
.
Alda will just continue gathering whatever gods remain on his side and ordering whatever hero candidates he still has to prepare for war.
