On the way back from meeting with Priestess Paula, who served Vida at the Communal Church, Darcia was called out to by a young man who called himself Edmond. After hearing what he had to say, she smiled.
“Edmond-san, I understand what you are saying, but I must refuse,” she said.
“Please wait! This is something that will be beneficial not only to me, but to you and to the Ghouls as well,” said Edmond, who had brought her to a restaurant to discuss business. “As you can see, I am a merchant, but I have investigated Ghouls a considerable amount. In the materials I came across, I read that Ghouls have difficulties in having children. But mating with a human has far higher chances of a pregnancy compared to mating with another Ghoul.”
“Yes, you are correct, but…”
“Then if you open a store for the sacred prostitution of Ghouls, it becomes a place to worship Vida, solves the problem that plagues the entire Ghoul race and brings in profit! All of these things are achieved, and everyone benefits!”
Darcia forced a smile onto her face.
“There are records that describe holy prostitutes who served in temples of Vida, the goddess of life and love, and granted love upon her believers, aren’t there!” Edmond continued.
“Umm, there are, but… that was practiced thousands of years ago,” said Darcia.
At the very least, this was the case for human societies, although circumstances may have been different for settlements of Vida’s races and the nations within the Boundary Mountain Range.
“That is why we should revive the practice in today’s age! We will build a Church of Vida, and have Ghoul prostitutes work there. I am sure that the Ghouls will be happy to do such work, and there will be plenty of customers desiring to engage with beautiful Ghoul prostitutes! And we will have them provide a ‘charitable donation’ as a fee for the service… Don’t you think this is a great idea?!”
That was the business idea that Edmond wanted to discuss. He wanted to build a Church of Vida with a number of private rooms, have Ghoul women work there under the guise of sacred prostitution, providing the male visitors with a night’s worth of love and taking a certain amount of money from them as a charitable donation.
In other words, he wanted to build a special brothel that used loopholes in a number of laws and conventions.
“I will provide the money for the construction of the building and various other expenses. You will only need to use your connection with the ‘Starving Wolf’ to make necessary arrangements in the entertainment district, and your son just needs to bring in Ghouls, with the story that he has tamed them,” said Edmond. “The question is, how many Ghouls can we gather… You interact with them, don’t you? The groups of Ghouls that have disappeared from around this region. Those two Ghouls you brought were from those groups, isn’t that right?”
It seemed that Edmond was under the impression that Darcia’s hidden village of Dark Elves interacted with groups of Ghouls. Vandalieu advertised the Gobu-gobu and baked Kobold meat being sold at his food carts as using Ghoul knowledge; this appeared to support Edmond’s hypothesis.
“… Who knows? I don’t know what you are talking about. As my son has reported to the Tamers’ Guild, he tamed those two Ghouls outside the Devil’s Nests, and I haven’t heard anything to suggest otherwise,” said Darcia, still wearing a forced smile.
Vandalieu’s report to the Tamers’ Guild had been almost meaningless – he had told them that he had met Zadiris and Basdia by coincidence while training Fang and the rats.
If one witnessed a monster that would be designated as a disaster, they would be obligated to provide an accurate report, but for reporting how they encountered monsters they tamed, this kind of report was enough. That was especially true as the Ghouls around this area were generally about as dangerous as Orcs of the same Rank.
Though Ghouls were slightly more proficient in combat, it was balanced out by the fact that Orcs were more aggressively harmful to humans, so they were considered to be roughly equally dangerous.
“I also heard that report from the Guild, but… if that is true, I think that you should be more informed about your son’s personal relationships, considering that you are his mother,” said Edmond.
“My son is very sociable,” said Darcia.
Her smile was now so forced that it looked like it had been pasted on over her mouth.
“Hmm… Considering that he made the effort to declare that Gobu-gobu and baked Kobold meat are Ghoul knowledge, don’t you think that he is trying to create some kind of business related to Ghouls?” said Edmond.
“I don’t know. The food cart business is my son’s project, and I have no input in it,” said Darcia, continuing to maintain her fake smile.
She thought that Edmond had a sharp intuition, but at the same time, she was irritated.
Edmond’s intuition was indeed sharp. However, he was observing Vandalieu and Darcia’s movements too systematically. This likely included the connection to the ‘Starving Wolf’ Michael, the support of the slum quarter’s inhabitants, the way Darcia had summoned a familiar spirit and acquired the Title of ‘Holy Woman,’ and the things that Vandalieu had done.
He was likely assuming that all of these things had been carefully planned as part of a larger plan.
… That’s not the case at all, though, Darcia thought to herself.
The connection with the ‘Starving Wolf’ Michael, Miles, was being used effectively because Joseph, former Deputy Guild Master of the Commerce Guild, had designated a back alley of the entertainment district as the location of Vandalieu’s food cart. Vandalieu’s relationship with the orphanage and the inhabitants of the slums would likely have been much different if Joseph had not harassed him.
And as for Vandalieu’s actions… overall, things had gone according to plan. But the truth was that none of the small details had gone according to plan, including the fact that he was now selling Gobu-gobu and baked Kobold meat.
It wasn’t as if Vandalieu had some plan related to the Ghouls that would develop from this point.
“Edmond-san, I understand very well what you are saying. But we cannot accept your request,” said Darcia.
She was smiling, but she made her refusal of Edmond’s proposal very clear.
“Will you not change your mind? I think it is a beneficial suggestion to everyone involved,” said Edmond.
“No, I won’t change my mind.”
Indeed, Edmond’s suggestion would be beneficial. If it were carried out, he would be able to earn money, and there would be a new environment in which it was easier for Ghoul women to have children.
But that only applied to ordinary Ghouls, the Ghouls that Edmond knew of.
Basdia, Zadiris and all of the other Ghouls who had been taken to Talosheim no longer suffered from a difficulty in having children; the problem had been resolved long ago by Magic Items that improved their bodies’ ability to have children.
There was no point in looking for human fathers for Ghoul children, abusing loopholes in human society’s laws in the process.
And it was questionable as to whether the facility would become a place of worship for Vida. Indeed, there were historical records of previously existing sacred prostitution systems in Churches, in which believers were given love. However, it was completely different… no, entirely the opposite, if a brothel was disguised as a Church and prostitutes were disguised as sacred prostitutes in order to operate a business and bring in customers.
This would potentially even give the authorities a negative impression of the Church of Vida, that the Church was a cover for prostitution. And there was no doubt that the anti-peaceful faction of Alda, which was losing influence due to the peaceful faction, would be delighted to use this as a weapon.
Not only that, but even other believers of Vida might distance themselves from the Churches.
To resolve the problem of human societies mistakenly thinking of Ghouls as monsters, having people actually interact with Ghouls would be a straightforward method, but it would be an effective one. Darcia knew this, but… that didn’t mean that they needed to build a brothel disguised as a Church.
Most importantly… Darcia felt that Edmond was the kind of person who couldn’t be trusted.
From his words, it was clear that he took everything too lightly except the earning of profits… Well, he was a merchant, so perhaps it couldn’t really be helped.
And it was questionable as to whether he had any intention of protecting the Ghouls if there were any serious problems… if the Ghouls were to be harmed by fanatical believers of Alda or human supremacists who wouldn’t accept a gathering of Ghouls inside the city.
“Edmond-san, I do believe that money is needed for religion. I do not feed myself with air, and Churches cannot be operated for free,” said Darcia. “But I think that it is mistaken to use religion for money.”
Until not long ago, Darcia had been a mere spirit who hadn’t needed to eat anything at all, but she put that aside for now.
Edmond sighed. “… Although you have received a god’s divine protection and a familiar spirit, you say the same things as everyone else. Then let me give you a warning. Rodriguez!”
An older man, whose name was apparently Rodriguez, stood up from another seat in the restaurant. He was lightly equipped, wearing leather armor, and a sword hung at his waist.
With movements that showed no sign of physical decline due to his age, he approached Darcia.
“This man’s name is Rodriguez. He is a former B-class adventurer, but by some fate, he is now serving as my bodyguard. He is a powerful man who was known in the past as the ‘Strong Sword,’ and he is of a completely different quality to the ‘Strong Arm’ who was ridiculed by your son and his friends yesterday,” said Edmond.
“I can kind of see that, but what’s the warning you wanted to give me?” Darcia asked.
She hadn’t seen Gordon herself, but she could tell that Rodriguez was a considerably strong individual… but that was all.
She showed no sign whatsoever of being surprised, overpowered or afraid.
Edmond was slightly irritated by Darcia’s response to Rodriguez despite his confident introduction, but he continued speaking. “No, it is just that… no matter what kind of idealistic thoughts you may have, they will sometimes be taken away by those with power. I wanted to warn you that there are numerous instances of this happening across the world.”
Edmond was trying to pressure Darcia, as if to say that he would have Rodriguez take Darcia’s idealistic thoughts away by force if she rejected his proposal.
But he had picked the wrong target for this. Darcia had engaged in physical combat against an evil god who had been physically incarnated in a Pure-breed Vampire’s body, and even cornered him. To her, Edmond’s threat was nothing more than a toddler saying, “I’m a scary bad guy, you know!”
“But I believe that there are also numerous instances of people trying to take things by force being defeated, having all of their possessions stripped from them and sold off as criminal slaves,” said Darcia, still smiling.
“… I see. Indeed, there are often bandit extermination commissions available at the Adventurers’ Guild,” said Edmond. “Rodriguez, what do you think?”
“I think that it is exactly as this lady says, Edmond-san,” said Rodriguez.
“Yes, the truth is that those doing the exterminating suffer greater losses than… Wait, what did you say?” said Edmond, thinking that he had misheard.
“Edmond-san, I think that Darcia-san here speaks the truth,” Rodriguez repeated.
Darcia smiled at Rodriguez, taking no notice of the petrified Edmond. “I am, aren’t I? Well then, I will excuse myself now.”
“We apologize for calling out to you and stopping you,” said Rodriguez, stepping out of Darcia’s way and bowing like a gentleman. “We will pay the bill, of course.”
“Oh my. Thank you very much. Thank you for the delicious tea,” said Darcia.
As Darcia casually walked towards the door, Edmond returned to his senses and tried to call out to her, but Rodriguez put a hand over his mouth to stop him.
Once Darcia had left, Rodriguez sighed in relief and let Edmond go. “Sorry, Edmond-san.”
“Seriously! What the hell was that? We agreed beforehand that you would pressure her, didn’t we? And we agreed that her son would likely refuse our proposal, so we would speak to the mother first,” Edmond complained. “So why in the world would you do that?”
“Edmond-san, we assumed that she would be like any other clergyman at the Church… that she had no experience in combat, even if she did have the ability to summon a familiar spirit. But we were wrong,” said Rodriguez, his face pale. “That woman who is not even an adventurer, who normally spends her time working at the skewer cart, is clearly far more powerful than I am. I could see it in her movements. The Levels of her combat-related Skills are definitely higher than mine.”
“No way…! You have a Level 8 ‘Swordsmanship’ Skill, and she is more powerful than you…?!” Edmond whispered, staring in shock at the door through which Darcia had left.
“Edmond-san, I owe you a debt of gratitude. My son is alive today because of the medicine that you bought with your money and connections. I’m willing to risk my life for you. If we were to be attacked by an Elder Dragon, I would gladly die if it could buy you even a single second more to escape,” said Rodriguez. “But I have no intention of going out of my way to step on an Elder Dragon’s tail, even if it’s to protect you.”
Vandalieu and his companions were working inside the Dungeon, the fake city in which human-shaped Golems made of stone and earth simply walked back and forth.
The buildings dirtied during the battle against Birkyne and Hihiryushukaka needed to be cleaned, and the broken Demon King Familiars needed to be replaced and repaired.
Birkyne and Hihiryushukaka had been unable to destroy the Dungeon itself, but the cannon-type and cannonball-type Demon King Familiars were disposable. Naturally, cannonball-types exploded when fired, but the cannon-types expended all of their Mana upon firing and were damaged by the recoil.
And the smoke and soot from the explosions had stained the Dungeon’s buildings black. The buildings being dirty didn’t affect the function of the Dungeon, but in case more enemies were lured into this Dungeon, having clean buildings would make it easier to fool them into thinking it was the real city of Morksi for longer.
The next time the Dungeon was used, it was possible that Vandalieu and his companions might be able to attack while they were still confused, then split them apart and crush them separately as they had done with Birkyne.
Thus, when removing the soot from the buildings, it was also important not to over-clean them and make them cleaner than the real city’s buildings.
“I understand that, but… can’t you do anything about the snow and the cold?” asked Tarea, who had activated her transformation staff and was now wearing a bodysuit.
“I cannot,” said Gufadgarn, shaking her head. “I have set this Dungeon to have the same weather and air temperature as the real Morksi. If it snows in Morksi, it snows in this Dungeon, and if it rains it Morksi, then it rains here.”
“I’ve already been told that, but can’t you change it while we don’t have any enemies in here?” Tarea complained.
“That is not impossible. But this Dungeon floor is more than twice the size of the average Dungeon floor,” said Gufadgarn. “If I were to change the temperature of the Dungeon to a more reasonable temperature, it would take over a day to turn the temperature and weather back to normal. Thus, I would like for you to manage your own warmth on your own.”
“I suppose it is troublesome to warm up or cool down an entire city. It cannot be helped; I shall receive my warmth from Van-sama,” said Tarea.
“I thought that your transformation equipment would be quite effective against this kind of temperature?” said Basdia.
Tarea’s clothes looked very cold indeed, consisting of a mini-skirt and a bodysuit, but they had been enchanted with cold-resistant properties.
In fact, if she were to stand under a snowy sky in the middle of winter with her transformation equipment activated, she would feel merely a little cold, taking no notice of the freezing-cold air.
“It’s a matter of warmth in the heart. Why don’t you go and train your juniors with your mother and the others?” Tarea suggested.
“I’ve already done my lessons for today. I’ll leave the training of Juliana and the others to Mother and Kanako,” said Basdia.
“… Alright, that should do it,” Vandalieu murmured, having finished creating more cannonball-type Demon King Familiars and loading the self-propelled-artillery-type Demon King Familiars. “Tarea, as you already know, my body temperature is quite low and wouldn’t provide you with any warmth.”
“Main Body, about these legs that you have attached to me… I think that they will be broken by the recoil if I were to fire,” said a self-propelled-artillery-type Demon King Familiar, wriggling the Demon King’s jointed legs that had been attached to it.
“That’s good enough, as long as you can move before firing your first shot,” said Vandalieu. “So, Mother, how was the talk with that Edmond person?”
“Umm, about that… Tarea-san and Basdia-san, you should listen too,” said Darcia. “He doesn’t seem to be a corrupt merchant, but…”
She explained the proposal that Edmond approached her with during the day.
“How do I say this… It might have sounded like a good proposal to the me from years ago, when I was getting desperate…” said Basdia, before Vandalieu could say anything.
“It is a questionable proposal, isn’t it? Though in the past, we might have listened to it. And I don’t think that everyone would have been as delighted as this Edmond person seems to think,” said Tarea.
Ghouls did not want the fathers of their children to be just anyone. Ghoul women had their own preferences as well.
They desired strength in their partners.
It was unclear as to what kind of clientele Edmond was targeting, but unless they were male adventurers or knights, Ghoul women wouldn’t be interested. It was possible that they wouldn’t even consider merchants with no ability in combat and pathetic drunkards to be men.
And Ghouls were liberal when it came to sex, but that didn’t make them professional prostitutes. If they were to take customers as partners, it was likely that there would have been all kinds of problems.
“Also, it would likely make Earl Morksi and Bachem-san become extremely worried. Bachem-san in particular seemed to be getting some idea of who Basdia and Zadiris actually are,” said Vandalieu.
Bachem of the Tamers’ Guild had provided Vandalieu with the familiar collars that he had applied for, having written that Basdia was a Ghoul Warrior and Zadiris was a Ghoul Mage.
But that was only because although he didn’t think that they could possibly be Rank 4 and 5, he didn’t know what their races truly were. Thus, he had been unable to deny the contents of Vandalieu’s application.
If Bachem didn’t trust Vandalieu, it was possible that he would have rejected Vandalieu’s application by force.
… But even with Bachem’s trust, it would be beyond his limits to accept the bringing in of large numbers of Ghouls to work as sacred prostitutes at a Church of Vida.
“You’re right. But don’t worry, I made sure to reject Edmond-san’s proposal. He was a little persistent, but it’s a good thing that his bodyguard Rodriguez had good eyes,” said Darcia. “So you can’t trap them in a labyrinth or turn them into meatballs or fertilizer.”
“… As you wish,” said Gufadgarn.
That was the moment that Edmond and Rodriguez managed to avoid their ends in the labyrinth, the fate that the corrupt guard Aggar had suffered.
“Incidentally, what happened to that alchemist, Jessie?” Basdia asked. “After she took venom from me and Mother, I thought she was pestering Van to teach her how to make artificial limbs like Simon and Natania.”
“I explained that there was nothing in terms of alchemy for me to teach her, but she is quite unwilling to give up,” said Vandalieu.
“The skill needed to make those artificial limbs isn’t alchemy, but blacksmithing, after all,” said Tarea.
Seeing Natania and Simon’s performance in the duel with Gordon, Jessie’s interest had shifted to the artificial limbs that moved like real ones and could be disassembled and reassembled at will.
But the artificial limbs themselves were nothing more than ordinary artificial limbs made of metal. It was the user’s spirit form that provided their movement.
“What a nice young lady, talking to everyone without paying attention to the pressure that the Mages’ Guild is trying to put on Van,” said Darcia. “Don’t you think that it would be best for her to give correct information regarding the Ghouls and the artificial limbs to the Mages’ Guild to remove any misunderstandings?”
“Mom, I think that will be quite difficult, but… it might be good to allow her to watch one of our training sessions in exchange for submitting a report about the Ghouls,” said Vandalieu. “She’s currently… with Simon, for some reason.”
From the response given by the Demon King Familiar embedded in Simon’s artificial arm, Jessie was with him right now. They had apparently bumped into each other while Simon was going around meeting landlords, looking to rent a room and move out of the slums.
And she was now following him around, having asked him to show her his artificial arm.
“… Well, we’ll be meeting Simon again at the store in the evening, so let’s talk to her then if she’s still with him,” said Vandalieu.
“It seems likely that she will be with him as long as he doesn’t actively get rid of her,” said Basdia.
“I don’t think he would try to do that. She’s the daughter of the Guild Master of the Adventurers’ Guild, after all,” said Darcia.
It was unclear as to whether this was a fated romance between Jessie and Simon, or a sign of some kind of trouble.
“By the way, Van, how are your Experience Points? They should be in the middle of building a statue of you in Talosheim,” said Basdia.
“… I am getting more day by day,” said Vandalieu.
Ever since he acquired the ‘Demiurge’ Job and become a demigod, he had frequently begun to gain Experience Points and gain Levels even when he wasn’t doing anything.
Considering that the reason for that was likely related to the ‘Demiurge’ Job… it had been concluded that the people’s worshipping of Vandalieu was likely becoming Experience Points for him.
This had been confirmed when Vandalieu had tried having Gufadgarn pray to him, and he had instantly Leveled up.
Thus, there was now a good reason for the long-standing request of the current head of Talosheim’s Church of Vida, Nuaza, to build an enormous statue of Vandalieu. The statue-building plans had finally started.
Even now, Talosheim’s citizens were building the statue of their own will, ignoring the placards reading “Don’t build the statue” and “Make the statue more compact!” held up by the Demon King Familiars.
The Sun Giant Talos was helping the project, putting himself to use as living construction machinery. The Pure-breed Vampires had come all the way from Vida’s Resting Grounds to help, and even each of the kings of the nations in the Boundary Mountain Range had visited the construction site in a gesture of goodwill.
It seemed that each nation’s kings and representatives had chosen stones of various sizes to be used for the statue, in a ceremony to symbolize their contribution to the statue’s construction.
“O great Vandalieu, please grant us your great mercy and forgive us for building this statue of you,” said Gufadgarn.
“This is the will of the nation’s citizens, Vandalieu,” said Darcia.
“You’re right,” said Vandalieu.
In order to not become a tyrant, he needed to respect the will of his citizens. He had no choice but to give up on trying to stop them from building an enormous statue of him.
“Ordinarily, it would be the opposite… nations’ rulers would be forcing their citizens to build statues of them,” said Tarea.
“Come to think of it, there’s apparently a plan proceeding on the Dark Continent to build an enormous stone statue of Van that won’t lose in size to the one in Talosheim. It’s being spearheaded by Tiamat,” said Basdia.
“Even on the Dark Continent? I’d like to stop that from happening,” said Vandalieu. “But there is no pseudo-main-body-type Demon King Familiar there, so I can’t tell them directly.”
“Knowing Tiamat-sama, perhaps she wants a statue of you about the same size as her,” said Darcia. “Oh my, what is that light?”
A dazzling light had suddenly appeared in the Dungeon’s equivalent to the city’s plaza. Singing voices could be heard as well.
Kanako and Zadiris, with their transformation staves activated, were giving singing and dancing lessons to Juliana and the other half-Minotaur girls who had been her subordinates in their previous lives.
“That’s it! That’s the way! Everyone, you have the qualities needed! You are the magical girls of the future!” said Kanako.
“Indeed, the future… I am looking forward to seeing you several months to a year from now,” said Zadiris.
“Yes! We will do our best to become magical girls like you! Isn’t that right, everyone!” said Juliana.
“Yes! We will become magical girls!” the other half-Minotaur girls shouted.
Before their reincarnation, most of them had been knights including Juliana, but they were now burning with a desire to become a knights’ order of magical girls.
“What a heartwarming sight. I wonder if they will become races like ‘Magical Princess Knight Half-Minotaur’ in the future?” Basdia wondered, casting a rather distant gaze towards the future magical girls’ lesson.
“Maybe so. They are still children, so there’s still some stabilization that will happen before next year when they will probably become adults… and it’s even possible that they will become a different race rather than half-Minotaurs,” said Vandalieu.
But Tarea was casting a suspicious gaze towards Zadiris. Zadiris was using her ‘Light Princess Magic’ to create spotlights and dancing light effects as if it were a real performance, raising the morale of the students.
“What I am more curious about is why that person is seriously trying to quit being a magical girl,” said Tarea. “It is very suspicious.”
Zadiris would train more magical girls, stop transforming once there were enough, and then aim to gain a race title and Jobs that were unrelated to princesses and magical girls.
That was supposed to be her plan, but… everyone except for her knew that she was getting deeper and deeper into it.
The back alley in the entertainment district. Up until a month ago, it had been nothing more than a gloomy place with a suspicious air about it, with nothing there except several food carts visited by people coming from the slums to work, looking to buy foul-tasting but cheap food.
But now, it had been reborn as a rather strange but lively street, filled with the energetic voices of the owners of food carts with pink hearts drawn on them as they called out to customers.
“Welcome, welcome! Today’s Gobu-gobu soup has a pretty good flavor, you know!”
“How about a Kobold sandwich? There are two varieties available – black bread that has some texture to it, or the slightly pricier soft white bread!”
There was one visitor who had been traveling, and hadn’t been in the city of Morksi for several months.
“Huh? There wasn’t a street like this when I came here in the fall, was there?” he said to himself, blinking in confusion.
And then there were others who heard rumors about it and had come here on dares and bets.
“So, this is the rumored Vida Street! Alright, I’ve got to conquer all of the Gobu-gobu dishes!” one man said.
“Alright, go! I’ll give you a hundred Baums if you can eat it all without throwing it up!” said another.
The man ate the Gobu-gobu, which was more delicious than he had expected, and was given a hundred Baums by his friend.
This back alley was becoming one of Morksi’s famous spots, with the food carts bearing Vida’s holy symbol selling the Gobu-gobu and baked Kobold meat that had saved the slum quarter’s food cart owners.
And the skewer cart about halfway down the alley, with its Dhampir owner and his beautiful Dark Elf mother operating it, had become a full-blown tourist attraction.
After Birkyne and Hihiryushukaka’s defeat, Eleanora, Bellmond and Melissa no longer had any reason to continue concealing their identities and being a part of the criminal organization, so they had come to help because they were free.
“Here you are, five regular sauce skewers and five walnut sauce skewers. Sorry to keep you waiting,” said Eleanora, handing a customer his order.
“We have meat and mushroom skewers with Walking Mushroom sauce today. How about trying one?” said Bellmond, calling out to another customer.
“Well, this is better than being thought of as the criminal organization boss’s mistress or illegitimate child,” said Melissa. “Apple sauce steak, here you are.”
Basdia, Zadiris and for some reason even Jessie had joined them as well.
“There’s quite some skill in controlling how you cook the meat, isn’t there, Van?” said Basdia.
“You’re so good at this, Basdia-san! When I try to make it, half of it becomes burnt before I know it!” said Jessie.
“… Jessie, from what I can see, it seems to me that this is because you are always distracted partway during the cooking,” said Zadiris.
“Jessie, I’m starting to feel more and more anxious about you helping me,” said Vandalieu.
Incidentally, Natania was at the house, taking care of Juliana and the other half-Minotaur girls, along with Rita and Saria.
Eleanora, Bellmond and Melissa weren’t dressed in disguise as the criminal organization boss’s bodyguards or secretary-lovers; they were dressed in ordinary warm clothing suitable for the winter weather. But even so, they were unmistakably beautiful.
Thus, male customers came forward to buy skewers, one after another… Vandalieu was continuing to hunt in the Devil’s Nests, so the meat and sauces were very good for the price, so there were also customers who came purely for the food.
Meanwhile, Jessie felt slightly out of place; she wasn’t astoundingly beautiful and actually had a rather unsophisticated air about her.
“Don’t say that, Master! I’ll do my best!” Jessie said persistently.
“I haven’t accepted you as my apprentice yet,” said Vandalieu.
“Master?!”
“… I’ve already explained that even if I did make you my apprentice, I would have almost nothing to teach you.”
Maybe it really is necessary to bring Jessie to Simon and Natania’s training and let her observe the artificial limbs closely, Vandalieu thought.
“Jessie-san, you can’t be causing trouble for Master. And your old man would worry if he were to find out that you’re wandering about the entertainment district,” said Simon.
“Don’t worry about my father, Simon-san. I’m an adult, not a child. I’m free to work where I like,” Jessie told him.
“But still, parents will worry about children no matter how old they get. I’ve made my parents worry about me a fair amount as well. You can’t be too inconsiderate to your parents.”
“Simon-san… Are you talking about your family that you haven’t met in over ten years?”
“Yes. But I’ve finally prepared myself to send them a letter, though the last time I wrote to them was about ten years ago, so it wouldn’t be a surprise if they thought I was dead.”
“I’m sorry for saying such inconsiderate things…”
“No, don’t worry about it. Everyone’s got their own circumstances. I was being too nosy myself.”
Simon and Jessie had apparently had deep conversations after meeting by coincidence while Simon was going around meeting landlords, and they were beginning to get into another deep conversation now.
“It seems like there’s been some drama,” said Darcia.
“It seems so,” Vandalieu agreed, feeling like they were listening in on something private.
“So, this is what it looks like when two people go off into their own world. They’re so focused on each other that they can’t hear our voices,” said Basdia, looking impressed.
Incidentally, Simon was working as a sort of bodyguard to stop drunkards from harassing Darcia and the others rather than helping with the food cart, but he wasn’t really being of much use.
But Fang was working hard in his place. A small growl from the gray dog the size of a cow was enough to startle a nearby drunkard, who sobered up immediately and ran away.
“The reincarnated individuals haven’t approached us yet, and there isn’t any sign of them doing reconnaissance, either? The air seems normal, and Fang isn’t reacting either, so it seems that ‘Sylphid’ isn’t around… Maybe it’s a good time for me to be more proactive rather than just waiting?” Vandalieu wondered to himself as he watched the drunkard flee.
Just then, he heard an announcement in his head.

Skill explanation (Written by Luciliano):
Infinitely Changing Fighting Technique
A superior version of the ‘Unarmed Fighting Technique’ Skill, allowing the user to make full use of the ability to transform their body with the ‘Chaos’ Skill.
It is unlikely for it to be possible to awaken this Skill merely by mastering unarmed combat and being able to transform parts of one’s body into monster or beast body parts.
It is likely that one must not only wield their transformed body parts, but be able to use them masterfully in their unarmed combat as a condition for awakening this Skill.
It is possible that Mimic Slimes and such could also acquire this Skill, rather than it being limited only to Chaos Elves, but they would need a master to teach them in the use of tails, talons and wings.
Skill explanation (Written by Luciliano):
Life Perversion, Demonic Element Encroachment, Imitation Reincarnation, Servant Creation
Skills that Master acquired when acquiring the ‘Demon King’ Job. From their names, these are possibly things that the Demon King Guduranis carried out immediately after making his appearance in this world, turned into Skills.
He perverted life from its natural form, encroached upon the world by corrupting its Mana, created an imitation of the circle of reincarnation, and created monsters that served as his servants.
Ordinarily, these Skills would have allowed the recreation of these feats. However, they have all combined with the Skills that Master already possessed.
… In other words, Master is either capable of or has already accomplished the things that the Demon King Guduranis has accomplished.
As to be expected of the Demon King, I suppose.

Just curious. Are Alda and pals aware, that there arent 3 factions anymore, where it was Alda + Vida vs Demon King, but now its Alda vs Vida + Demon King? It is totally impossible that the Demon King subordinates will join Alda, there is literally 0 chance.
I mean if he would do some math, he will reconsider his plans? ^^
Hobbes
Van you can’t be opposed to statues of yourself being built. You’re literally helping to introduce Idols to Lambda!!!
Vitor
Zadiris would train more magical girls, stop transforming once there were enough, and then aim to gain a race title and Jobs that were unrelated to princesses and magical girls.
That was supposed to be her plan, but… everyone except for her knew that she was getting deeper and deeper into it.
Poor Zadiris-chan doesn’t know when to give up XD

Well, Rodiot did say that Van made a primitive Reincarnation Cycle in his Dungeon [The Demon King’s Orchard], he made new Races like the Black Goblins, Orcs and the Anubises, as well as Pauvina the Half-Noble Orc and Juliana the Half-Minotaur, Demonic Element Encroachment is either bcz of the Demon King’s Eyes or using his Mana to make the Immortal Ents Forest, and Servant Creation is obvious where that came from, so yeah, Van did what the Demon King did long ago, and he’s probably a lot better than Guduranis now.

“Even now, Talosheim’s citizens were building the statue of their own will, ignoring the placards reading “Don’t build the statue” and “Make the statue more compact!” held up by the Demon King Familiars.”
Did anyone else picture a massive picket line of Van clones just outside the construction site holding these signs?
SpinelesS
I just pictured 1. First with the don’t built the statue, and then later with the make it more compact. I also picture him with a sign that now says “I give up, build the statue however you want”
Chiu ChunLing
It might have worked to have a sign, “At least wait till I grow up enough to have muscles!”
Hmmm…on second thought, that would probably just result in a weird statue.

Demigod skill… Am i only one who has feeling Alda’s faction giving him EXP through their fear for him?
And he has fanatical worshipers as well so if he does something can be considered miracle he will most likely to become full fledged God. Dark God or something seems feasible since his death atrribute magic has become Dark King Magic.
Also Orbaume Kingdom part of this novel gave us precious chance to gather information about human society and i smell academy ark in kingdom since he will have to attend Adventurers’ school or something.
Zadiris seems like teacher who always talk about retiring but just doesn’t for some reason. She is destined to become Magical Girl Guider.
Jonathan Hurd
I think you might be right on fear from Aldas group helping Van level. That definitely makes some sense.
I would argue resurrecting the dead should be considered a miracle, lol. Add in making clones of himself, killing God’s, and punching holes in dungeons. All things that are normally impossible even for God’s, I feel like Van has a sizeable list of miracles to his name already.
While I would also enjoy an academy ark for Van I feel like we’re probably not going to have one. The point of Adventurer school was Van was to young to become a full fledged Adventurer right off the bat. It would allow him to register at a younger age. Van I believe is already closing in on the minimum age limit and I feel like the Guild master in Morksi would just register him now if he asks.
I think the biggest reason we’ll probably not get a school ark is sadly Vans to busy. He needs to deal with the reincarnators, prepare to fight Alda, train himself, and spread the good word of Vida. Sadly I don’t think he has the time for school especially is there is no gains from going.
no1
You might be right on the fear from Alda’s faction. Generally, worshiping a god can be in multiple forms, like prayers, offerings, having faith or fear in or of them. So in terms of fear, the gods of Alda’s faction might be unintentionally providing Van with strength
Krixous
True I mean gufadgon gets power just from people using his dungeon and feeling emotions in them no one really prays to him.
TypicalReader
God of the Abyss.
Chiu ChunLing
It’s particularly hard to deny since Gufadgarn was able to level him by praying, meaning that even a relatively high-ranking god can give him XP (as long as she has a physical body, anyway). On the other hand, she’s so devoted that the Hounds look faithless in comparison, so her prayers likely have an much stronger effect.
But the effect might be contained by whatever principles allow Divine Realms to support the existence of bodiless gods.
Gohankuten
Thanks for the chapter. Just want to point out that for whatever reason this chapter still hasn’t been linked on Novel Updates so some readers may not realize a new chapter is out yet.

Thanks for the chapter.
Will Van acquire some kind of skill/job that will let him mimic/copy things that exist if he is going to copy entire cities including golem disguised as humans? If yes, how far would it go?
If Van is getting exp because of his special position are other gods also getting them if they’re part of the system and are getting worshiped?
Tejing
I’m pretty sure it’s only working that way because the job he’s trying to level at the moment is about being a demigod. Remember that different kinds of jobs get XP from doing different actions.
Jonathan Hurd
Remember the job system was put together by the God’s to help humans. It was explained a while back that God’s can’t actually get jobs. They’re just naturally getting stronger through religious belief.
Another part is Van already has a skill that helps him with Copying details. He’s using the Perfect Record skill he absorbed from Curatos to memorize the details of the city and reconstruct them.
VEreality
What I want to know about Perfect Record and his dungeon making skills is if we are going to see Van creating a copy of his enemy and make them fight or not. Because if he does, he would be even more of a boss than he already is.
KingJake122
maybe depending on the mana consumption

I kinda want to know Ricklet reaction to Van getting exp from preyers. Van has literally broke the status system and is pretty much cheating at this point.
Also if Van can get exp thanks to the Demigod skill could other god get exp from preyers we know they get power throught them but we haven’t seen or heard that for example Gufadgarn elf body get stronger this way,
Tejing
You’re thinking the XP from prayer thing is a permanent property of Vandalieu, but we already know that what gives XP toward leveling a job changes with the job itself. Farming jobs get XP by farming, combat jobs by killing monsters, and apparently jobs that are about being a (demi)god get XP from prayer/worship.
Dr. Steel
He’s wondering if it is because of the job alone or if because of the “Demigod” skill he will gain xp from prayers even when he switches job
Jonathan Hurd
To be fair the Job system has been broken long before Van was born. Rinklet himself told Van the introduction of Vidas races and humans ruling each other has thrown the thing completely out of whack long ago.
As tejing pointed out, jobs have always gained exp based on doing tasks related to the job. That was how Van insta maxed the Demon King job. It makes sense if you’re a Demigod to gain Exp like how God’s would amass power.
For God’s they don’t have jobs or exp. Jobs and exp was something Rinklet setup to help humans contend and fight the DKs forces. God’s gain power from prayer. Gudaranis is considered one of the most important and strongest God’s currently because of what she represents. She is feared by the human adventurers because she’s the God connected most closely to Dungeons. She is also worshipped by Vidas group because she protected them and continues to do so.
Tejing
I assume by ‘Guduranis’, you meant ‘Gufadgarn’ 🙂
Kidd
Thanks for the chapter!! Cracked up when Van instantly leveled up for having Gufadgarn pray to him pfft imagine that god doing what she likes most, praising Van
Dang, it just hit me how far this novel has come yet it’s still funny and keeps me hooked. Massive thanks to Yoshi and to the sponsors!
Lightnovelfan
First: Thx for the chapter, always a pleasure to read.
Second: Van can now gain exp by doing nothing? Rodcortes curses are now officially useless and his enemies are f…ed. Van can now grow more powerful by sitting around and waiting.
But there is still one thing I´m curious about. Is his ability to gain exp by being worshipped permament or only during his demiurge job? Same with Bestower or Demon King. Can he still gain exp by mutating people or collecting Demon King Fragments? If so, his speed of leveling up would increase insanely by gaining more of this unique leveling ways. Plus it seems his exp gain is proportional to the believers power. When Gufadgarn prayed, he immediatly leveled up.
Tejing
As I understand it, it should be only during the Demiurge job.
Darkshroud
Actually, no. He’s getting exp through prayers because he got the demi-god skill. So it’s permanent
Tejing
… How do you know?
Irazori
He probably read the half-ass translation version. Apparently it’s around like 300 chapters for the last 2-ish years or something. I tried to read it before the birkyne fight really started in the dungeon, but it was too badly translated to even bother finish reading. But it could just be speculation on Van getting permanent exp gain through prayer.
Jonathan Hurd
If it’s true that he read ahead then he needs to stop spoiling. If it’s just his guess he should probably word it more like that instead of a statement of fact, imo.
Jonathan Hurd
Honestly I highly doubt it’s a permanent effect. If it is then we could assume the Demon King jobs effect should also of been permanent. If that’s the case why didn’t Van instantly max Demiurge. It’s not like he’s ever stopped doing Demon King things. He’s even created new monsters and perverted life with the minataur girls.
I would also argue that if you keep the exp gathering parts of jobs then why is it harder to level up as you get more jobs not easier? You’d think the stacking exp gains would make you level faster not slow down.
Alter
It should be permanent. Just like the Insect binding, Undead binding, etc which remained even after leveling up, the benefits of ‘Demiurge’ job should remain. At least that’s my guess. Because what use is a job if it loses it’s effect after changing it
Dr. Steel
(Alter) Right answer wrong reason (or logic). The skills stay when you switch jobs, but the way you get exp can change. He obtained the “Demigod” skill, which makes him have the perks of a god. One of those is that when they have believers and receive prayer/worship, they become more powerful. Like how Alda is more powerful than Vida because he had more believers, and how by making more Vida believers she becomes more powerful, and thus can recover faster. In Van’s case, because he gains the benefits of the Status system, it is shown as experience points and levels.

Idle Thoughts:
I just realised (again) how skilled the author is. Despite Vandalieu’s intentions, he’s pretty much doing the same thing as Guduranis but better and positively. Yet he’s still committed some pretty heinous crimes. I mean, Van IS worse than any eldritch horror yet the author portrays him in a way that makes him look like a severely misunderstood semi-villain.
Also, Darcia is a severe son-con. I never really noticed but since she’s the first to get “Super Self-Enhancement: Vandalieu” and there were already other people that had “Self-Enhancement: Vandalieu” waaaayy before she did, it kinda seems obvious.
Vandalieu should just go meet the reincarnated individuals already. They’re too scared to act without knowing everything about him and his followers, but they can’t even find out even 1/10th and they know it.
Perhaps they should build a Ghoul village relatively close to Morksi and conduct trading between the towns to improve people’s opinions? Definately bring humans and some titans to live in the ghoul village so that people realise they aren’t monsters.
Flay
.
Kiryl
Which actions of Van and Gudu do you find similar?
When you refer to crimes do you refer to things which were crimes where he was (e.g. using demon king fragments), or things we would consider a crime but that they actually do a lot in lambda (e.g. experiments on humans)?
To many things can go horribly wrong with a ghoul village.
Irazori
I think the human experiments thing would be a crime, but they only do it to bandits and/or shitty individuals. Especially since it is recognized as an actual law that bandits lose their civil rights and are okay to be killed. That bitch-hole asagi might object you that, but that’s still because he doesn’t know shit on how things work on Lambda.
Jonathan Hurd
The definition of crime honestly depends on the society. You could say what Van is doing is breaking the laws of the Orbaume Kingdom and Amid Empire, but just remember what those system also made legal. In those societies it was okay to burn his mother to death after torturing her. It was okay to hunt down a 5 month old baby and kill it. It is acceptable to betray your ally, burn her at the stake, and then enslave her people for over 200 years. It is okay to hunt down and kill people and be paid for it. It is alright to use those killed people’s body parts for experiments such as ghouls and Majin. It is okay to kidnap those same people and sell them as sex slaves.
Van does do human experimentation, but he does it on people these two societies would of accepted him killing anyways, bandits and opponents of war. Honestly considering how corrupt some of the Mages guilds we’ve read about, Vans human experimentation seems nice in comparison.
Dr. Steel
He doesn’t necessarily mean actions but powers. They both have created monsters and dungeons, broken souls, imitated reincarnation, etc, but Van hasn’t used these in a negative way.
Kazza
In the immortal words of John Graham Mellor:
“But I believe in this method, tested by research,
He who fucks nuns, will later join the church.”
Hmm. Powerful words, but I think Edmond missed the message. Mr. Mellor meant it metaphorically, not literally. As in, the sentiment of playing with fire will get you burnt. Flirting with disaster will only invite it upon you. A lesson you need learn quickly…
Now, does this actually have much to do with the chapter? Not really, just reminded me of the phrase, but I sincerely hope I got someone to look this up into Google. Tell me if you found the source!
Anyways, a bit of a worldbuilding chapter. I’m pleasantly surprised Jessie didn’t become a harem member (at least it appears she hasn’t), because honestly, it’s getting too… predictable, I guess? Formulaic? And I know it’s not the first time, ’cause there’s Melissa with Doug and Lina with Fester, but…
I dunno. Is the harem a big part of why anyone likes the novel? I mean, we all kinda go “Yeah, harem increased!” and get the ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)’s ready, but is that really anyone’s favorite plot thread? Or do we all just do it for the jokes?
‘Cause, despite the fact that it’s a big part of the novel, a lot of it is kind of… half-baked, I guess? Like, a lot of it seems to just be them winging it. I’d be interested in some of the politics of it, like the big question if there be one Queen and consorts or multiple Queens. What about the dirty side of it, like a darker version of those Drakonid guys trying to groom that warrior Rowen for favor. What about possible children? I remember it was mentioned for Kurnelia and Budarion that the ruling god of the location they were under decided the species of the child. But if Van becomes a literal god and is also able to manipulate the genetic code of the child?
But instead it’s just kind of… there? And I get it, he’s 10-ish, so there’s not going to be any sex scenes, and it’s not like I’m saying that’s a bad thing. But at the same time, there’s not really any romance there either. Van doesn’t really treat his wives any differently than anyone else in his nation, and they don’t really act like his wives. They mostly act like his other friends do, only they’re the female ones.
And to be honest, thinking about it, maybe that’s a big reason I like Mei so much. Because it shows Van’s paternal side, trying to care for a baby/toddler since Pauvina (and now Juliana) grew up pretty quickly and became intelligent enough to not need his guidance. And even beyond that, there’s the possible drama from her being able to learn what is possibly her father’s dirtiest secret from the victim himself.
Even if she becomes a harem member in the future (which I honestly hope not), that’s a paragraph I could write without thinking about romantic implications. But unfortunately, being his wife is kind of defined… by just being his wife.
Now, I promise that’s not me trying to call Densuke sexist. All the girls do have lives and traits outside of having a vagina and wanting his child. I can even write equivalent paragraphs about Kanako’s ideas of ethics or Zadiris’s eternal doomed fight against the magical girl moniker. I can even recall some scenes that made me feel a little bit “D’aw”-ey, like when he offered to brush Gizania’s fur and Myute got a little jealous.
But still, I just think adding wives at this point is just that, adding names to a list. And like a lot of lists, it just becomes white noise to me after a while. Honestly, without looking, can anyone recall Van’s intelligence stat at this point? I would think not, because it’s not relevant to anything going on right now. Similarly, that’s what being a wife of his is. To me, it just becomes an irrelevant character trait because without knowing that status nothing would be different.
Shit, that got longer than I wanted. If anyone’s curious, yeah, that is stream-of-consciousness with a quick read through for any mistakes.
So, all that rambling aside, can anyone make a case for it if they really like the harem aspect? I’m honestly curious to see if it’s just me. Maybe the harem genre just isn’t for me. And I’d like to specify that I don’t think it makes the story worse, per se, it’s just that it’s ultimately pointless in the end and is kind of a waste of time.
Flay
Actually the Harem here it’s totally half-baked, and somehow I think is just the author puting his sexual life/romance life frustration on the novel.
I already readed some good romance on novels that ended in harem, but I never readed a “good harem” where the wifes really do something.
In the end, I will resume like that:
The author lost the “way” of the history with the harem b’cause it’s totally useless.
About the status, it’s another thing that is useless, they tried to put a “RPG” setting but is not working so well, to the point that those numbers could be pratically erased.
Kiryl
I still think the statuses are kinda useful, they give something to compare characters and they give a rough overview of a character’s skillset. The titles can also be really funny.
It would be better if we knew what significance the difference stats actually had. (What does it mean took have 1,10,100,1000,… int/str/agi who have that. ) also how does certain skills affect them (monstrous strength), and if they actually was shown for more characters. (Again because any stay is only useful if you can compare it to something)
Flay
Yeah, if you think them as way to compare the characters, sure it’s usefull. However if we remove that it wouldn’t make so much difference.
a_really_original_name
A sorta good harem is in mushoku tensei. I didn’t really like how the second was handled but otherwise it’s pretty solid and not absurdly big.
VEreality
Just as you said, a story that has a harem for the sake of having a harem is not something that I enjoy, but this is not the case here. Again, as you said already the girls do have personalities and a reason why they are where they are right now. Van is the prince charming of the Vida races. He has the charm, the power, a good heart and the favor of the gods. It would be strange for him to not be popular with the girls.
However, in order to fully understand their role, we have to keep in mind something that I don’t think many of us took notice of. Van never said that he loves something. The closest he has come to this is with his mother. He declared himself a mothercon and proved this by doing everything to keep her happy. This is because he knows that he loves her as a part of his family. The girls that want to be his lovers are something else. He doesn’t know how to love a lover. Nor does he knows the difference between loving a friend, a lover or the people around him. Therefore he just gives everyone all the love that he has. All the love he knows how to give.
He is emotionally marked by his past and we shouldn’t forget that. Even if we see him going above and beyond for the sake of everyone like some kind of hero, he thinks that this is something normal. Because he does this for those that are close to him. The girls are there to teach him how to love as well as to give him the big and loving family that he wishes for. So I think that rather than saying that he doesn’t act different toward his future wives, we should think that he treats everyone close to him as family.
Kazza
I don’t disagree with your main point, but you seem to have a big contradiction.
You seem to agree that a harem for the sake of a harem is meaningless in the grand scheme of things. And then you affirm what I said, that being his wife is a meaningless status because it’s no different than being a friend of his. Granted, you have it in a more positive light being that he loves everyone equally, but that doesn’t change the fact that his wives are treated the same as his friends.
But if that’s because of his emotional stunting from his assorted trauma, wouldn’t you say that’s a missed opportunity for a wife to help Van try to heal? To teach him that it’s OK to let others try and help? That sometimes you can rely on those weaker than yourself to protect you? That you can show weakness to certain people and not be taken advantage of?
Yet the wives don’t do any of this. They don’t know more about Van than anyone else, and don’t seem to want to improve that. That’s why I think the harem is meaningless, because in the end his wives don’t teach him anything, or contribute to his character development. So it’s just a meaningless fact to put at the end of their summary. That’s my point with the status comparison, it’s like “is romantically interested in Van” has the same importance as “has sword technique Level 5.” But whereas sword skills are just a means to an end in how a character would fight, romantic interest should be integral in how and why they act as characters.
That’s my issue. It’s not that Van treats them like friends, it’s that they act like friends and are content with that. I guess I’m trying to say that I want being a harem member to mean something that sets a character apart from everyone else, something Densuke honestly has trouble with.
Tejing
First of all, you’re jumping the gun. They aren’t his wives. Most of them aren’t even his fiances either. Secondly, the “friend” state is a necessary holding pattern because of his age. There’s no romance because Van doesn’t have the right psychological building blocks for that yet. Even if he’s no innocent due to his previous lives, he still has the instincts and emotional responses of a child, and even in his previous lives, he never learned to love anyone… in any sense, romantic or otherwise. That said, I also think the harem aspect of this novel is there mostly for humor, and to increase the sense of Van building the “warm family” environment he’s always wanted, and I’m fine with that even if it stays that way for the rest of the story.
As for the status, I actually find it quite helpful. It gives me an objective grounding for imagining what’s plausible and what isn’t and helps my imagination engage with the mechanics of the world. Van’s intelligence is 41k or so as of last status (no, I didn’t look that up. I DO know off the top of my head)
Kazza
For your first point that’s fair enough, I should have used a more broad term like “love interest”. But I’ve written wife to many times to go back and fix it so I’ll just try using love interest now.
But for your second point, I think you’re kind of narrowing down the possibilities. I agree that due to his trauma, Van doesn’t have the mental state to be romantically close to anyone, because I would argue that involves placing yourself in a position of weakness, which Van can’t do because he feels he must protect all he loves and weakness will only be taken advantage of.
But even then, that’s his problem, not any of the girls. I think that if they are romantically interested, they should be trying to help him get over that trauma. They should because despite being a boon for Talosheim, it is still a source of stress for Van, a cause of nightmares and paranoia.
But that’s my problem, and you do seem to agree, in that being a love interest doesn’t cause them to act any differently than his other friends. Instead, it’s tested more as a source of humor, which I honestly hadn’t considered but have to agree with. But even if it is a running joke, even the funniest of jokes get old after being told the same way enough times.
Kidd
this is just me, I honestly prefer no romance in this novel and keeping the harem thing for humor. Although I agree, the harem humor is quite repetitive. But if anything, a lot of interesting stuff keeps happening around Van that the harem thing gets pushed aside.
Pretty much room to grow for Van in terms of romance and overall character development (not just simply getting stronger) if you ask me, but it seems like the author focuses more on world building than those. It’ll also be nice if we get to see that in Banda though, being surrounded by a family and all. For the girls around him, I feel like they’re just waiting on Van to grow (both physically and emotionally) before they’ll actively try to make a move.
Supreme king
I agree I honestly would prefer if this whole harem thing just stays as a gag or maybe introduce some third party world that wants to invade lambda and have van meet an actual love interest that around his age and is actually as abnormal as him in strength etc (though that is likely impossible) all in all I just find the Bastia zadiris and the ghoul thing weird first of all Bastia brother is her father ffs I understand it’s a different culture and all and is fantasy but come on oyakodon stuff should stay in hentai where it belongs
Tejing
“first of all Bastia brother is her father ffs” umm, what? Where did you get the idea that Vigaro was Zadiris’ son? We’ve never been told who Zadiris’ sons were.
Supreme king
I can’t remember if it was said in the beginning of the novel it’s been too long but it said that in the manga for the most part the manga has had everything the novel has though some parts trimmed
Tejing
The manga translation isn’t exactly top shelf. If it actually says that I’d bet it’s a mistake.
Garotinho321
I believe that Van’s real romantic couple will be Selena … I think that’s her name … The damphir with the five-colored sword. And I think it will be she who may prevent Van from exterminating the soul of Heinz and his group, as they did not realize that they are being manipulated but are essentially good.
They have been in that dungeon for so long that Selena may have suffered some kind of attack from Alda’s assholes. And if van comes to save her and she doesn’t immediately suffer from religious dementia, which is what almost everyone around him has, she can see Van’s suffering in relation to everything and everyone … until the question of him having a expressionless face …
Or Mei … who is the daughter of the one who had everything that was his and who also has the same power that can be exploited by the same guys who explored Van and tried to do the same with orientation. Although I also wish they would not do this … but this is the author’s prerogative … we know that in this type of writing, only what will happen in a few chapters is really decided, the rest comes from the readers’ response. .. I believe that we, not exactly us, because the author is Japanese and therefore, these opinions may not reach him, but we readers wrote the novel conducting ideas and concepts, sometimes recalling a characteristic that the author himself may have forgotten .
But there is something that we all forget, including me when I started writing this comment, Van has no traumas with romance, but with family love, as for romance he has no experience with girls, and as in this life he still has no hormones, he basically, although he has an adult mind, has not yet sparked this kind of romantic interest.
give me.
Lord Rin
This Edmond guy better not try anything stupid. Surely he has heard what happened to Joseph and probably everyone knows that it had something to do with Van. I mean, Joseph kept harassing Van and trying to make things difficult for him only for him to suddenly get arrested and Van later meets with Earl Morksi for a private dinner? It wouldn’t be hard to put that together and conclude that Van had a hand in Joseph’s arrest. So yeah I hope Edmond rethinks things before he does anything stupid. At least his bodyguard isn’t dumb and it does look like Edmond at least trusts his judgement so maybe nothing will happen.
Oh Zadiris. You will never escape being a Magical Girl or Princess. At some point I’m expecting the system to keep making fun of her and keep giving her magical girl and princess-related jobs and titles. Like Neo Magical Girl or Elder Princess Omega. Or maybe a Magical Girl Guider or Princess Guider. I can only imagine how much fun the gods of the status system are having.
Meanwhile though Edmond’s plan wasn’t good, I think Van’s work has been having an effect on people’s views of ghouls. Sure Edmond’s plan sounds like it was really all about making a profit but the fact he even came up with this plan where ghouls are more or less being thought of as people instead of zombies says something. If there was still a perception of ghouls as a type of mutant zombie then I don’t think Edmond would ever even suggest such a plan because of all the problems they’d face.
So Simon and Jessie as a couple eh? Good for them. It doesn’t seem like Jessie is only with him because she’s interested in Simon’s artificial arm. I mean they are talking about deeply personal things like Simon not having contacted his family in 10 years. I don’t think Jessie would talk to him about that if she was only interested in Simon’s arm. Anyways Jessie wants to be Van’s newest apprentice. She wouldn’t be able to learn how to make artificial limbs since it isn’t actually alchemy but she could still learn a lot. Zadiris, Van and I think Luciliano and Tarea all have the alchemy skills so Jessie can observe them. Talosheim also has unique magic items made with alchemy like the transforming equipment and the fertility items used by the ghouls. Alchemy is a different disciple from magic so you can imbue items with attributes that you don’t posses so Jessie might be able to replicate some items that use the death attribute even though she doesn’t have that attribute. Even if she can’t, just studying the magic items would probably still be super helpful.
Give up Van, you will never be able to stop them from building statues of you. Anyways do I want to know why Tiamat wants to build a statue of Van that’s her size? I don’t think she’s given up on having Van’s child. I mean she did give Pauvina -who is like Van’s little sister- her divine protection and the Elder Dragon Princess title because in her own words it’d “get rid of the obstacles”. Anyways Van is now getting XP from people worshiping him and praying to his statues. It’s gonna be harder for him to claim he’s not a god now.
I think Eleanora, Isla and Bellmond will be very happy that Van got the True Ruler of the Red-light District title. With that title it makes it more obvious who the leader in their Leader’s Mistress titles are referring too.
I guess Van got tired of waiting for the reincarnated individuals so he’s going to get more proactive. They’re fucked.
Chiu ChunLing
Frankly, what he tried was already pretty stupid.
While it may have been less obnoxiously evil than if he’d been directly targeting Darcia herself, that’s because there was simply zero chance of his plan working out. The thing that makes trying to pressure a woman into sex by threats of violence so bad is that it actually has a chance of working if she doesn’t have immediate recourse to categorically superior force.
It might be possible to intimidate Darcia into saying that she’d ask Van (and Bachem, and Earl Morksi, and the Communal Church) whether they all thought this was a good idea…before Van even went out and asked any Ghouls whether they thought this was a great opportunity. There’s zero chance nobody along the way would have noticed that Darcia was being pressured by a greedy merchant and decided to use the combined authority of basically every important institution in the city to drive him away…or make him disappear.
His plan was so hopeless that it’s almost excusable because he’s clearly so blinded by greed he couldn’t see how pointless it would be to get Darcia to sign off on it. Like she told him, there were too many other people who would have objections even if she didn’t. Was he going to have his muscle lean on Van and every single major authority in the city in sequence?
If he already had everyone but Darcia on-board, then he doesn’t need her approval anyway.
The thing is, he doesn’t need Van either, if his former B-rank can capture ghouls…which he can’t because there aren’t any left in the region. But if he’d known that much, wouldn’t that be a clue that maybe Van’s ability to find and tame ghouls meant there was way more to him than anybody knew?
ravelphenex
i get the feelings that the hierarchy in vida’s faction is vida>vandalieu>darcia> the rest of the gods>and so on. practically all the gods in vida’s faction is respectful to vandalieu. as for darcia, she’s vida’s incarnation, so no need to say more about that.
Dyneamaeus
As I’m thinking about it, Vida very deliberately turned Darcia into her Incarnation, possibly in order to also be Van’s mom. Darcia is very much Van’s subordinate though, despite being his mom. Since Darcia kind of IS Vida, doesn’t that make Vida his subordinate by extension?
gomezseba37
yes because vida already said that she doesent care about vans methods and he lifted the curse that alda placed on her so she probably would do anything for van.
Kiryl
I don’t know if there’s is any point in this since they have a very loose hierarchy in Vida’s faction.
Tejing
Vida’s faction doesn’t truly have a hierarchy, though what you said is mostly the right feeling except Van isn’t Vida’s subordinate. Neither of them follows the other really, so I’d call them more like equal allies.
Lord Rin
There is no hierarchy. Everyone’s opinion is more or less equal. Luvesfol even explained it once that the gods keep positions vague deliberately because if certain gods get classified as more powerful then people will just pray to those gods because they think they’ll get better benefits or whatever and it’ll defeat the whole purpose of worshiping gods. That’s exactly why Vida’s faction think Alda is insane for actively spreading the idea that he’s the chief god.

Considering how Ghoul men look in the manga, I expect standards for being strong enough to interest them are pretty high. It’s a funny disconnect between the races to have them be like: “yeah, we were desperate but not THAT desperate.”
I like that they come back to the idea of powerful adventurers having a sort of sense of who is stronger than them, experience based or from a skill. I kinda want a description of Darcia going all out with the changing technique. Temporarily sprouting wings during a jump, or talons with a kick?
Tejing
Well we did already see a taste of Darcia’s changing technique during the Hihi fight.

I feel sad for Van because now he HAS to let his people waste material on statues or he won’t get more powerful and his people might begin to see him as a tyrant.
Ltshrek
Hmmm Yeah I doubt that his people will see him as a tyrant
Superboy8338
But at the same time all that material that can be used for roads and various buildings are being wasted on statues…
SilverEagleLive
Van’s got 24/7 golem workers at his disposal and can create almost anything but orichalcum. The only real downside to creating the statues is the cringe he’ll feel when he’s older and has to look at statues of his childhood self everywhere.
ExplodingPenguinDood
This is exactly it. He doesn’t care about the materials, he sees himself as a, peculiar and strange albeit, a regular person. Even with all the crazy jobs, titles, and skills he doesn’t see himself as a god and good riddance I suspect otherwise a distance may grow in him and his subjects
WholesomeAF
The only thing wasted is time and labor which they actually enjoyed so I don’t see what’s lost….

I think that they were mentioned in the Gilgamesh mythos, not sure. I know in one myth that I remember vaguely it mentions a priestess of a fertility goddess finding a wild man living among animals and seducing him into civilization. Similar to Adam and Eve, but instead of a fall from grace, a rise from wilderness. In the myths the sacred prostitutes were pretty high up in power since fertility goddesses usually also had to do with farming and land.
WholesomeAF
Wait what?
Lord Rin
It was mentioned before that Vida’s priestesses would work as sacred prostitutes as one of their duties. Also sacred prostitutes are a real thing.
Supreme king
Dare lord please no let’s not go in that direction this novel has already taken me to my breaking point with its um ‘Uniqueness’ I don’t need any more of this in the form of ‘holy prostitution’ two words I could’ve gone my whole life without seeing in the same sentence
Irazori
Pretty sure that “holy prostitution” thing was only a desperate measure because of the gurudanis war. Then the aldiots used that as slander on how Vida does things.
Chiu ChunLing
Not so much a desperate measure during the war (the Vida races didn’t even exist then).
But sacred prostitution is only sacred when everyone involved (both the men, the women, and whoever is handling the money) all sincerely hold it sacred.
Like Darcia says, money is necessary for religion, but religion shouldn’t be used as a tool for making money.
Sacredness is fragile, involving anyone who doesn’t respect the sacredness results in desecration.
WholesomeAF
Ah it’s mentioned before but I’m happy they talked about it albeit briefly in this chapter, I hope they explore it more though….
Chiu ChunLing
It’s a real thing. As are people who don’t understand a religion very well learning something about that religion, then taking it completely out of context and trying to make money (or trouble, or both) based on their misunderstanding.
Chiu ChunLing
Keep in mind, this is already contemporary practice in the Alda Church of the Amid Empire, that’s what Duke Marme was talking about when he said that the church could furnish women as an incentive for Schneider to move.
Superboy8338

Rodcortes curses were flawed from the beggining
Irazori
That’s been established already when Van discovered that he could get exp by being in a party.
Dr. Steel
I don’t think it’s by being in a party, but that he gains xp from those tamed by him, and basically everyone he fights alongside have been “tamed” by him
Entropy
Thank you for the chapter. Sounds like Luciliano will be getting a fellow student wanting to learn from Vand. Edmund’s plan sounds good in paper, but would have probably failed in practice due to a ton of problems. He was lucky not to be an annoyance to Vand. So Vand is gaining exp from Demurge, I wonder if his jobs are as well, such as demigod or whatever it is called as well as any that affect his followers passively. Who wants to bet that Zandris’ next job will be something like Magical Girl Princess Teacher or Master. Five jobs later and she will still be a magical girl princess. Seems like Vand is getting ready to take on some of his former classmates soon.
Renrobt
So now Van gets Xp without doing anything. He broke the system. Not only he can do everything Guduranis could but now casually gets stronger every time someone prays to him. People can summon him like familiar descent and he can give divine protections and guide people in their dreams. The only reason he isn’t a god cause he insists that he isn’t one.
Also gotta love Luciano’s “As to be expected of the Demon King, I suppose.” Just casually disregard the near world ending Invader from another universe as complete inferior to Van.
Tejing
I think the XP from prayer thing will only apply for leveling the demiurge job. When he gets a new job, things should go back to normal. Different jobs get XP for different things. It makes sense that a job centered on being a demigod would get XP from being prayed to and worshiped.
Black Gorgon
I think not because demiurge gave Van a title, Demigod i think?, well what i want to say is that Van is getting XP because he is being workshiped as a demigod and not only because the demiurge job.
i think i failed conveying my point here.
lawson
BR, Vam ganhou uma habilidade chamada semideus, acredito que continuara ganhando xp por adoração mesmo se trocar de emprego por causa dessa habilidade
ExplodingPenguinDood
I think that similarly tiered jobs won’t certainly be as easy to level up but it remains to be seen. I suspect that maybe if there are jobs like sword god or axe god then those would be harder to level up
Lord Rin
Van should still get XP even after he changes jobs. It’s been mentioned before that the effects of previous jobs still remain even if you get another job. Van probably won’t get as much XP since whatever job he gets next probably won’t relate to godhood like Demiurge though.
Tejing
The effects of jobs remain after you get a new one, but the methods of gaining experience aren’t effects exactly. It would be awfully strange if a former adventurer who became a baker could level up his baker job efficiently by killing monsters simply because his previous jobs were combat-oriented. Same principle applies here. The thing about different jobs is that the kinds of things that constitute experience depend on what goal you’re working toward. Once you level a job fully and move on to the next one, your experience is now counting toward a different goal, and thus different actions affect it.
Dyneamaeus
To be honest, even if they bring back Gurandis in his ancient war full power state, I can only see him being a threat in one of 2 very specific instances. Vandalieu is just so much more busted than him it’s ridiculous.
Tejing
You’re underestimating Guduranis.
Valeth
If I recall it has been stated Van is better at using his Magic and Skills, than Guduranis. He is better at leading and bringing people together as he does not use fear as his main source of obedience.
However, he was still considered to be far inferior to Guduranis in terms of Power. Guduranis took on multiple great gods and their champions who were far superior to the current ones (at least this is implied), where Van still struggles with the weaker champion group.
Triduo
That Rodriguez really saved Edmond’s skin ! O_O’ <I don't want to imagine what would have happened if he insisted too much… )
Paradoxe : Meanwhile, Van's forced to accept the construction of two giant statues of himself in order for his followers to make him level up by worshiping him… Wait, what ?
no1
Another interesting chapter, thanks Yoshi. I thought Edmond in the beginning was a little annoying and slightly pathetic in his intimidation technique and Rodriguez seems like a rational guy. So Talosheim is building a giant statue of Vandaliue and so is Tiamat on the dark continent. It should be good that his nation’s citizen’s and tiamat’s opinion of him is increasing, except the statues might be about the same level as cringey for him when he was acting as a demon king in the previous chapter. Lastly, I find the title he got in the end to be somewhat funny. It makes it sound like he is some crime lord/boss or something of the red light district. It was really funny when he was like “why”. Also I did not know there were other half minotaur girls, I assumed Juliana was the only one. Overall, it was a fun and easygoing chapter to let us know how the main character is doing, I like chapters like these, but I hope we see some action soon in the future chapters.

In a way, I suppose Edmond’s idea can be taken as a good sign. He presented it in a way that seems to acknowledge ghouls as essentially people, even if he was just being greedy for money. That means the concept Van is aiming to spread is starting to take root to some degree.
I hope Edmond reconsiders some things… I’d feel sorry for Rodriguez if he ended up being pulled into antagonizing Van through his loyalty to Edmond.
I like the detail that Talos is helping build the statue. He’s such a pleasantly humble god. A stark contrast to Alda’s cronies, especially Fitun, who thinks of mortals like ants.
Jessie and Simon, huh? Didn’t see that coming, but I guess it could work out nicely. She’ll probably only become even more interested when she finally finds out how the artificial limbs work, even though it’s not alchemy. I can only see her ending up just as devoted an apprentice as Luciliano, but focused on the non-undead stuff. Van’s ability to just make golems with a word would probably knock her socks off.
I’m guessing he got that title partly because ‘Michael’ indirectly told people that Van was his boss? Plus he was so visibly terrified at the prospect of fighting him in a duel.
I love Darcia’s new superior skill. It’s totally perfect for her, given the OP synergy between Chaos and Orichalcum Skeleton that we saw. Though now that I think about it, it’s strange that she doesn’t have Armor Technique. Even if she doesn’t really need the defense, it would still be useful for stuff like Instant Response.
Garotinho321
Well … the guy is a trader … Slavery in the world ended in parts because the idealists convinced traders and governments that free and paid people are more profitable than slaves who cannot have possessions, and not because it was right to do.
His perception is of the commercial type, albeit with a truculent approach.
Another commendable thing about him is that his research, although incomplete and outdated, was not incorrect. He saw the opportunity and the waves of change and idealized a legal business for the world portrayed, prostitution is not criminalized, only the information was incomplete, but perfectly adjustable, because in many religions where women have ritual sex it is she who chooses, and the most serious, outdated, since the reason for ghouls to participate no longer exists.
English forgiveness. It is from google translator.
Chiu ChunLing
Unfortunately, it’s already established that keeping Ghouls in sex slavery is already an established practice. Edmond is just trying to cut costs associated with capturing and containing uncooperative Ghouls, not change the essential nature of existing Ghoul sex slavery.
Fortunately, Edmond seems to have a relationship with Rodriguez in the first place cause he understands that losing your life is even worse than losing some money.

Also, it seems that Van’s actions have cut down the number of idiots after all. I mean, yeah Edmonds’ plan was disgusting, but no one can say that he and Rodriguez are stupid.
And lastly…… Basdia’s observation about THE statue of THE MIGHTY LORD OF DEATH was spot on. It cracked me up. It stands to show just how weird Van is when you compare him with the rest of the world.
