The bases of the Pure-breed Vampire Birkyne were in the center of Devil’s Nests far from where humans lived, and they were… not old.
As Eleanora had betrayed Birkyne to join Vandalieu, Birkyne had prepared some places several years ago as he had needed bases whose locations were not known to her.
It would have been difficult to build bases from scratch, so he had used bases that he had used before acquiring Eleanora and repurposed ruined buildings in the cities of countries that had been destroyed in the past.
This tower was one such base.
The ones who lived here were several Noble-born Vampires entrusted with managing the place and the several dozen Subordinate Vampires who served them. There were also around a hundred humans.
But most of the humans were children, and they were kept in cells like livestock. Their blood moistened the throats of the Vampires, and they also served as stock for sacrifices for magical rituals of some sort and the rituals used to request the evil god of joyful life for his divine protection.
There were facilities such as the orphanages, but it would be problematic to have to go directly to an orphanage every time a sacrifice was needed. This tower was one of the intermediate facilities that solved this problem.
“… I heard that one of the guys in the cell next to us had his blood taken,” one cynical boy whispered to the others in his cell.
“Is he dead?” another child asked.
“No, apparently they only took a little.”
“But they’ll drain him of his blood until he’s dead soon enough… and us, too,” said a girl.
“Tch, of course they will. We’re being kept here to become food for the Vampires. One day, we’ll have our blood sucked from us until we’re dead or be turned into Undead,” the cynical boy muttered.
The children knew the truth about their situation.
It didn’t need to be explained that Vampires drank blood. But they drank less frequently and took less each time than humans would think. And Vampires were capable of taking nourishment from eating normally rather than drinking blood.
Not drinking for years would harm their health and negatively affect their regenerative abilities, but there was no effect on their bodies even if they didn’t drink blood for several months at a time.
But more powerful Vampires… such as those whose ‘Bloodsucking’ Skill had awakened into ‘Bloodwork’ had stronger impulses to drink blood.
Most importantly, drinking blood was one of Birkyne’s hobbies. The children did not know this, but there were some who were sacrificed simply to be tortured by him as a method of stress relief… though he had recently restrained himself from killing victims lately so that he would not have too many spirits around him.
“Th-that’s not necessarily true, is it?” piped up another boy. “They told us that if we serve them and show them our value, they’ll let us become Vampires as well…”
“They did say that, but were they telling the truth? Even if we work for them, we might still end up being turned into Undead, right?” said the girl.
Another purpose of this place was to let the more obedient of the children live as Subordinate Vampires, and use the rest as materials to create Undead.
“But don’t you dare think about trying to break out. Depending on what kind of monsters you run into, you might die a worse death than being toyed with by the Vampires,” the cynical boy warned.
“… I know,” the other boy muttered.
The children being kept at this tower had not been brainwashed by Birkyne. This tower was isolated from human society, and one step outside would expose the children to the dangerous monsters prowling around. Brainwashing them wasn’t necessary.
“Either way, we don’t know anything until we become adults. If that’s the case, we don’t know whether we’ll be dead months from now or even tomorrow. Let’s just enjoy ourselves until the time comes,” said the cynical boy.
“Enjoy ourselves? We have nothing to enjoy except the food. They make us work in the afternoons,” the girl said discontentedly.
The children were kept in cells and forced to live like livestock, but they ate better than when they had been in the orphanages. They weren’t given anything extravagant, but they had dishes with meat, fish and vegetables, and they occasionally had fruit for dessert. During the day, they worked in the fields or tended to the fruit trees to produce that food.
It was likely that the Vampires wanted to improve the quality of their blood by making them eat balanced diets and get exercise.
“Eating until we’re full is enough, right?” the cynical boy said.
“That’s… Hey, it’s kind of noisy,” said the girl, suddenly noticing that there was a lot of noise around their cell.
“Has someone been taken from one of the other cells again?” the other boy wondered.
“No, this is… the Vampires?” said the first boy, trying to listen carefully. “Yeah, the Vampires are screaming!”
Indeed, there were loud, echoing screams that could not possibly have been made by the children being kept inside the tower.
There was the dying scream of a beast, and one voice was shrieking in terror.
“It’s hopeless! It’s over, it’s over!” screamed another voice.
Realizing that these voices belonged to Vampires, the children looked at each other. They could not understand why the Vampires were screaming.
“I-is someone going around killing the Vampires?!” one of the boys whispered.
“Then we’re going to be saved?!” the girl said excitedly.
Had someone come to the tower to exterminate the Vampires? Realizing that this was possible, the children’s despair-filled eyes ignited with hope.
“You!” a Vampire shouted, appearing suddenly in front of the cell as if to extinguish that hope.
The children flinched and fell backwards.
They recognized this Subordinate Vampire. They didn’t know his name, but he was one of the Vampires that looked after and supervised the children. He did his best to curry the favor of the Noble-born Vampire that commanded him, but would lash out horribly at the children.
But they didn’t know his name.
“I-is there something you need, Vampire-sama?!” one of the children said in a high-pitched voice.
The Subordinate Vampire’s face stiffened. “MY NAME IS ANDREW!” he screamed.
He had shouted his own name.
The children now knew his name, but they were totally bewildered as to why he had chosen this moment to introduce himself, and were frozen with fear.
“Did you hear me?! I’ll say it once more, so listen closely. My name is Andrew!” the Vampire shouted once more, without waiting for a response from the children. “You got that?! Hmph!”
With that, he broke the cell’s lock with his claws.
“Hurry up and get out! From now on, you… no, everyone, is free! You hear me? Do not forget that I, Andrew, saved everyone!” he said with a stiff, twitching, awkward smile as he freed the children.
The children’s fear and bewilderment only deepened, but they were even more scared to disobey Andrew, so they left the cell to see that the same thing was happening at the other cells.
“Children, I, Barnio, will save you!”
“I, Citrin-oneesan, will set you free! Citrin-oneesan! Set you free!”
“Out of the way! The one to save these children will be me, Raikert! I will kill you if you try to stop me!”
“Don’t get in my way! I, Felpo, will save you!”
Until minutes ago, the Vampires had been the children’s fearsome captors, but now they were all frantically trying to be the ones to free the children from their cells and appeal their kindness to them.
The children were dumbfounded by this sight, but they understood that something big had happened.
The destruction of Hihiryushukaka, the evil god of joyful life, was known to all of Birkyne’s subordinates in an instant. This included those who were scattered and working all over the continent and those who had originally been subordinates of Ternecia and Gubamon.
Ordinarily, such a thing would be impossible even for Vampires. Hihiryushukaka had been destroyed by Vandalieu in a Dungeon created by Gufadgarn, and all of Birkyne’s confidants had been defeated as well. There was no way for that information to leak to the outside.
But although Hihiryushukaka was an evil god, he was still a god that had been worshiped by the Vampires.
Vandalieu had once destroyed the spirit clone of Yupeon, the god of ice. He had also devoured a subordinate god of Alda, the god of law and fate, and destroyed the Dungeon that he had created. Both events had affected the minds of Alda’s clergymen greatly, immediately telling them that their god had been harmed. The priest of Alda in Morksi had even screamed out loud and lost consciousness.
The same thing had occurred in the Vampires who worshiped Hihiryushukaka.
Though their devotion was of a different quality from that of humans who worshiped gods, they had worshiped Hihiryushukaka, the evil god of joyful life, and the Pure-breed Vampires who served him.
The core of their devotion was fear. Though they worshiped the power of evil gods, they had prayed and worshiped so that such power would not be directed at them. Still, there were almost none who could interpret the Divine Messages of evil gods, the structures of whose minds were simply too different from those of humans. However, it was easy to hear his dying scream.
As a result, the majority of the Noble-born Vampires who had served Hihiryushukaka for many years understood his destruction and lost their minds. They felt a sense of liberation at being freed from a fearsome being. But at the same time, they felt a sense of loss as the bonds that held the Vampires together vanished, and a sense of fear at having lost the powerful evil god that protected them.
And the Vampires who had worshiped Hihiryushukaka now knew that there existed a being capable of destroying him.
“It’s Vandalieu! There’s no doubt that Vandalieu destroyed the evil god of joyful life!” one Noble-born Vampire shouted in panic.
“He possesses the power to break souls! He has used this to destroy the evil god!” shrieked another.
To be more accurate there were others capable of facing Hihiryushukaka. The Five-colored Blades and the Storm of Tyranny, the S-class adventurer parties of this continent. If they were to fight with all of their strength, their power would likely reach even the gods.
But even if they had been able to seal Hihiryushukaka away, they would not have been capable of destroying him. That was only possible for those who possessed the ability to break and extinguish souls – the Demon King Guduranis… and Vandalieu.
Thus, the Vampires knew that Vandalieu had destroyed their evil god. And they were certain that they would be next.
Another Vampire screamed in terror. “We can’t be in Birkyne’s base! He’ll hear the voices of the dead and come to kill us!”
Many of the Noble-born Vampires were aware that their hands were stained with countless evil deeds, and that they had been rewarded for them. On top of that, many of the Noble-born Vampires were among the higher-ranking members of the organization, so they couldn’t use the excuse of having no choice because they had only done as they had been ordered.
Thus, many of the Noble-born Vampires capable of flying had done so to escape. As they were Rank 6 at minimum, it was possible for them to escape from the centers of Devils’ Nests on their own.
But the same was not true for the Subordinate Vampires. Those who had been able to hear the evil god’s dying scream had told the others about the situation in shock. They were aware of the situation, but they were unable to fly. On top of that, the weaker Subordinate Vampires were only Rank 3.
This base of Birkyne’s was in the center of a Devil’s Nest that was large and inhabited by powerful monsters so that adventurers could not easily reach it. In order for the Subordinate Vampires to escape from this base, they would have to run as fast as they could while constantly fighting monsters for several days straight.
Having decided that this task was impossible, the Subordinate Vampires had chosen a different option.
“So, that is why they released the captive children themselves… and the sight before our eyes is the result,” murmured Eleanora.
Having used Gufadgarn’s teleportation to visit this base, Vandalieu and his companions had expected that they would need to fight Birkyne’s subordinates.
But what they found instead was several dozen Subordinate Vampires begging for their lives.
“Yes! I, Andrew, have had a change of heart! I am ready to offer my life to you in order to atone for my past!”
“I am known as Barnio. It has been several decades since I became a Subordinate Vampire, and I have been doing nothing but miscellaneous chores such as the cleaning and the laundry for this place. This is the truth! Please, spare me!”
“I, Citrin, am the one who made the food that the children are eating right now. So please, find it in your heart!”
Eleanora sighed. She was actually impressed by how spectacularly they had changed sides.
“Well, I don’t think I can say anything, since I was also an assassin who changed sides… So, what shall we do?” she asked.
“I don’t think that their words are sincere. But… it seems that some of them have already been guided by Danna-sama,” said Bellmond.
In essence, the guidance of a guider manifested in one’s thoughts. Thus, it would normally be impossible to determine whether one had been guided from their outward appearance. But Bellmond was able to tell that several of the Subordinate Vampires had been guided by Vandalieu. Some of them had a fanatical gleam in their eyes.
“If you insist on not leaving me alive, then please kill me right now! I, Raikert, shall swear loyalty to you as a spirit!” one of the Vampires shouted.
This was one such example.
“You’re right. Those eyes are the eyes of people who swear a fanatical loyalty to Vandalieu-sama and would not even hesitate to become Undead,” said Isla.
“Bellmond, Isla, I think you’re right, but…” Vandalieu muttered. “Everyone, you freed the captive children in order to beg for your lives, right? Your goal seems to have changed,” he remarked to the subordinate Vampires.
He had no recollection of creating fanatical worshipers but unfortunately, speaking to them seemed to only make them more fanatical. All of the Subordinate Vampires were a part of the organization who had worshiped Hihiryushukaka, the evil god of joyful life, and they had been at the bottom of that society. It was difficult to say that their minds were in a sound state.
There was no contact with human society here, so they had spent the majority of their Vampire lives obeying Birkyne and the Noble-born Vampires.
In summary, they had already been trained, in a way.
“Seeing myself reflected in your eyes is enough to make my hands tremble… Such overwhelming power…!” one of the Subordinate Vampires whispered.
Another was gasping for air. “So fearsome…!”
The Subordinate Vampires felt fear towards Vandalieu just from him speaking to them, and the fanatical gleam appeared in the eyes of more and more of them.
Vandalieu looked away in disbelief.
“Are all of these people related to you or something?” Isla muttered to Eleanora.
“Hey! Are you trying to say that you’re any different?!” Eleanora retorted.
“… At heart, us three are likely the same as them,” said Bellmond.
Just then, Seris and Vestra returned.
“We’ve heard the children’s stories,” Seris said.
Director Holly had been reunited with the children that had been sent here from her orphanage, apologized for not being able to save them and was now engaged in conversation with them.
“They’re confused because they were freed by the same Vampires that held them captive and watched over them. Many of the children do not hold anything against the Vampires as long as their own lives are spared and they are free,” said Seris.
“But there were also many children that said they wouldn’t go near the Vampires, as they are scary and creepy. Also, as the children have told us, it seems that the Vampires have not killed anyone here for a while,” said Vestra.
Birkyne had been wary of information reaching Vandalieu through spirits, so he had done his utmost to avoid killing the captive children. He had even found and abducted a human with the ‘Spiritualist’ Job that allowed them to see spirits, forcing him to work with him.
“Of course, it seems that the spiritualist lied to the Vampires. Birkyne and his subordinates had been taught that they could purify any spirits haunting them if they poured holy water on themselves, but in reality, there were so many spirits around them that they could not purify all of them with just that,” Vestra added.
“It’s because of that I was able to know that something had happened before I entered the orphanage, so I need to thank that spiritualist,” said Vandalieu. “So, you people are slightly unpopular amongst the children, but… I’ve decided to take you with me,” he told the Subordinate Vampires.
About a third of the Subordinate Vampires sighed in relief at this decision, while the other two thirds gave small cries of joy… Incidentally, the latter was the fanatical ones.
“I will have all of you convert to Vida’s faction and live under supervision for a while. As for the supervision… I guess I’ll ask the Black Night Knights’ Order to watch over you,” Vandalieu said.
“Please leave it to us, Vandalieu-sama. My subordinates will be able to train these fools well,” said Isla.
The Black Night Knights’ Order was the order of knights consisting of Vampire Zombies, with Isla as its leader. They upheld the rules of Talosheim, interacted with the people in a friendly manner and strived to improve their image through volunteer activities such as keeping the city clean. Thus, Vandalieu felt comfortable leaving the Subordinate Vampires’ supervision to them.
“There will be some more from the other facilities we are about to visit… probably dozens more,” said Vandalieu.
“… I just want to be sure, but will all of the Vampires be like that? Seris and I only just realized that we are Vampires today, so we don’t really feel it, but will Seris and I become like that one day?” Vestra asked.
“No… or you shouldn’t, but that doesn’t sound very convincing coming from us,” said Eleanora.
Vestra looked concerned; this answer was indeed very unconvincing coming from someone wearing a collar that they had received from Vandalieu.
The original reason for Vandalieu and his companions coming to this tower, Birkyne’s main base, was because there were many children captive here. If the Vampires here guessed that they had been defeated from the fact that Birkyne had not returned, it was possible that they may kill the children in despair or simply leave, leaving the children behind.
Now that Vandalieu knew that this wasn’t the case, he and his companions decided to use the Job-changing room in the base in order to change Jobs before going around to the other facilities. However, this didn’t go very smoothly.
Eleanora only had Jobs containing ‘Princess’ available to her, and reluctantly chose ‘Transforming Sword Princess.’ Likewise, Bellmond chose ‘Transforming Kunoichi’ for similar reasons.
“This is clearly because of the transformation equipment that you made for us, but… it’s too convenient to give up! Van-sama, what are you trying to do to us?!” Eleanora demanded.
“She’s absolutely correct, Danna-sama. Please make your intentions clear, so that we may gather our resolve,” said Bellmond, joining Eleanora in pressing Vandalieu for answers.
“You two still don’t understand, do you? It is only natural for us servants to understand his intentions without him speaking them out loud,” said Isla.
“My main objective is to have you use superior equipment and become powerful,” said Vandalieu, realizing that Isla was trying to create a flag for trouble and trying to calm the other two down by repeating his true intentions. “Well, I can’t deny that I am enjoying myself at times,” he added.
Of course, Jobs such as ‘Magical Girl’ were useful Jobs with high Attribute Value growth rates according to Kanako and Darcia, so ‘Transforming Sword Princess’ and ‘Transforming Kunoichi’ were likely useful Jobs as well. Eleanora and Bellmond would likely grow even stronger.
“My ‘Dream Guider’ Job reached Level 100 too, from the Experience Points I gained from Hihiryushukaka’s defeat… And there probably aren’t any more facilities that we need to get to as soon as possible,” said Vandalieu.
Places with Vampires that could hear Hihiryushukaka’s dying scream would likely already be aware of the situation, just like this place. Places without such Vampires would not even have realized that Birkyne and his confidants had been defeated.
Either way, there was no enormous need to hastily rush to the other facilities.
“And it would be troublesome in the… very unlikely chance that I were to be asked about my Job-change if I did it in Morksi.”
And so, Vandalieu entered the Job-changing room in this base and put his hand on the crystal ball inside.

Vandalieu had avoided the ‘Demon King’ Job up until now, but when he destroyed Hihiryushukaka and absorbed the Demon King’s shadow, which was a fragment of the Demon King’s soul, he had felt a different sensation from when he absorbed the Demon King’s physical fragments.
In the end, nothing had actually happened, but it was possible that Vandalieu would absorb more fragments of the Demon King’s soul in the future. He thought that it would be best to take the ‘Demon King’ Job, which could possibly prevent any potential problems that could arise.
This was just a thought, and there was no proof that this was the case, and he was naturally aware of the possibility that it could just make things worse. However…
It has been some time since the fragments began referring to me as the ‘main body,’ so it’s about time.
With this train of thought, he believed that the risk was low. However, he had decided to use the Job-changing room in this tower, as it would be bad if his voice were to be heard by people in the city while he was choosing this Job there.

Just as he had gained Experience Points for ‘Bestower’ by causing mutations in people and creatures, perhaps the ‘Demon King’ Job could gain Experience Points by gathering fragments of the Demon King.

‘False Shadow User’ had appeared as a new option; this was likely related to the Demon King’s shadow. Taking this into account as well, Vandalieu chose a Job that was even more mysterious than the ‘Demon King’ Job.

My Mana is finally over 10,000,000,000 and my Vitality has increased as well… and my Strength and Stamina almost doubled. But I don’t have muscular pain like I did during my growth period.
Vandalieu walked around the Job-changing room a little, but there was no pain of creaking muscles and joints.
Perhaps it was because the Demon King’s fragments had merged into the Demon King’s body, or because of the clearly abnormal ‘Demigod’ Skill that he had acquired after selecting the ‘Demiurge’ Job.
“Well, it’s entirely possible that crippling pain throughout my whole body will prevent me from getting out of bed tomorrow,” Vandalieu mused to himself.
As he left the room, there was something of a fuss going on outside.
“Van-sama! We suddenly acquired the ‘Familiar Spirit Demonfall’ Skill, which is different from ‘Familiar Spirit Descent!’ What happened?!” asked Eleanora.
“Eleanora, you should be asking, ‘What did you do?’ not ‘What happened?’” said Bellmond.
Before he replied, Vandalieu focused his mind towards Talosheim through his pseudo-main-body-type Demon King Familiars.
… The same thing had occurred there, too. It seemed that everyone who had acquired Vandalieu’s divine protection had acquired the ‘Familiar Spirit Demonfall’ Skill.
The overexcited Luciliano was quite frightening. He was approaching the nearest pseudo-main-body-type Demon King Familiar, shouting, “You have finally become a god?! If that is the case, please let me examine you, Master!”
“… I guess it was careless of me to take ‘Demiurge’ after ‘Demon King’ after all. I should have discussed things with everyone before deciding,” Vandalieu sighed, regretting his hasty choice.
Incidentally, Isla had apparently set about testing the ‘Familiar Spirit Demonfall’ Skill right away.
In his office, Earl Isaac Morksi signed and stamped a document with the sense of accomplishment that came with finishing a large project.
He had succeeded in creating a friendly connection with that Dhampir boy who was very extraordinary in various ways. This was a great accomplishment for him, equivalent to signing an important peace treaty with another nation.
An individual who possessed a tremendous power that could decide the fate of nations… This was what Isaac thought Vandalieu was. He wasn’t entirely sure why he thought this, but he felt very strongly about it.
Just then, Isaac’s retainer entered with a report from his spies.
“Danna-sama, there has been a report,” he said.
“Let me hear it,” said Isaac.
“It seems that the boy headed for the orphanage in the slums today. His mother is making preparations for the food cart, and the Beast-kin girl who attended the tea party and a man named Simon who lives in the slums are helping her.”
“Hmm? What about the boy himself and his beasts?”
“The beasts are guarding his house, and the boy still seems to be at the orphanage. Apparently, he is helping with preparations for a festival tomorrow.”
Isaac was puzzled by his retainer’s report.
The Commerce Guild did not have any problems with the food cart’s owner not being present during business; the requirement for turning a temporary registration into a full membership was the business owner being able to run a sustainable business. Even if the registered owner was not there, it was fine as long as the business kept operating.
But Isaac felt a sense of discomfort towards the fact that the boy, with whom he had discussed things just earlier today, was acting in a way that he had never done before.
“Is there a festival for Vida tomorrow? I don’t recall there being one,” said Isaac.
“My apologies, my lord. I do remember the ones that are held at the Communal Church, but I am not aware of any…” said the retainer, unable to answer his question.
This was just a sign of how little interest they had taken in the orphanage in the slums.
Isaac did donate some things to the orphanage as a part of his slum welfare policy, but this was all in most times. If not for Vandalieu, there was no reason to take notice of it.
“Shall we try asking the inhabitants of the nearby areas?” the retainer suggested.
“… If we did that, he would take notice,” said Isaac. “It’s a good opportunity. Tell the spies that from now on, they are to stop monitoring and investigating Vandalieu Zakkart and instead start to monitor and investigate whether there is anyone attempting to approach him, especially anyone who intends to cause him harm.”
“Are you content to stop investigating his identity and intentions?”
“Yes,” Isaac said with a nod.
He had managed to create a connection with Vandalieu during the afternoon’s tea party. If he had his spies investigate any further and they were later discovered, the connection would go to waste.
And I do not believe that my family’s spies will be able to discern his identity and motives, even if they were to investigate further, Isaac thought, but he did not voice this out loud.
“More importantly, his existence should now be known not only to the main cities of the Alcrem Duchy, but to the other Duchies as well. It would be troublesome if the fundamentalists were to make a move. Caution is needed,” said Isaac.
Vandalieu’s identity was unknown, but he had no ill intentions and followed the law. It was likely that he would bring about development in this city and the Alcrem Duchy. Isaac believed that the fanatics who sought to take the lives of Dhampirs were far more deserving of caution. Being fervently religious was all well and good, but it would be troublesome if they were to cause some incident.
That was how Isaac thought after today’s tea party.
“I do not believe that he requires the protection of my house, but… it would be a mess if the fundamentalists were to try and set his house on fire or something. We must take preemptive action,” Isaac said.
“As you wish,” the retainer said with a bow, and then he left to relay Isaac’s orders to the spies.
Alone in his office once more, Isaac put his seal on the final document on his desk and then stretched his body.
“Now then… I suppose I should get an early night’s sleep tonight,” he murmured to himself.
To many people including Isaac, today was yet another uneventful day in the city of Morksi.

A Job that does not represent a guider with dreams, but one who appears in dreams to guide his followers… Guidance manifests as thoughts, but can dreams be considered thoughts?
In that sense, it is the most unusual among all of the currently-known guider-type Jobs.
It does not seem to provide much growth to physical Attribute Values such as Strength, Stamina and Agility, but it did provide much growth to Intelligence and Mana.

People, a god of this world doesn’t mean he needs to be born here to be tied by the world! A God of the world means a god known or worshipped in this world, and it does apply to Vandalieu. But he has the skill “demigod”, so he’s not a God yet

If you were to consider the gods of Lambda to be native gods, then Van would be an alien god due to his soul not being reset before being born in Lambda and because of how much he has merged with the previous Demon King’s fragments, which came from a god who was also alien to Lambda. Considering how law usually only governs those within a certain boundary, I wouldn’t think that Alds’s law would be effective on Van until he is actively a part of the world (E.g. Governing an attribute or something of similar importance) because he is currently free from this world’s constraints. Van could wreak havoc on both Earth and Origin with the power he has gained with no consequence because he isn’t tied to Lambda.

Many people still seem confused about what is a demigod. Demigod is god with physical body, not half god. The Sun Giant Talos for example is born from Vida and Zerno, both are gods but Talos is still a demigod. And being a demigod doesn’t mean that you are weaker than true gods, the demon king for example is a demigod because he has a physical body but he still wrecked 10 gods of this world, killed 4 of the champions and reduce the number of human down to 3000 people

I think it is a little late to have acquired the demigod skill. Because demigod implies half god and ever since Darcia was ressurrected as a chaos elf source, Van’s race had use to be dhampir(vampire/dark elf) but now it is dhampir(vampire/goddess). So essentially, he was already a demigod ever since his mother’s ressurrection

I was very interested when Van got the possibility of the Demiurge job. For those that don’t know “demiurge” is a greek word [δημιουργός, dimiourgos], which means “the creator”. In ancient greek philosophy it was the title given to a theoretical being which created the universe and had the status of God or subordinate to a supreme God.
I think its very fitting for Van as he is, from my point of view, nearing the power of creation and he is an amalgam of all the creation oriented champions, has multiple creation type skills and if I’m not mistaken Guidance as well and he has also given form to things immaterial and material alike. It also helps stabilize him as an existence that is near godlike, which has been an ongoing theme for quite some time.
In my opinion it is wise for the author to keep him in this status for a while to slowly introduce the changes he goes through until he becomes a true death god.

While that is the origin of the term, probably the Gnostic meaning is more apt, given the heavy references to various occult religions. In Gnosticism, the Demiurge is a being that pretends to be the Creator but is actually in opposition to the ‘true’ god, which does not have a physical body and has completely different objectives than physical creation and development as suggested by the original Greek (which meant the creation of technology, basically).

It is also fitting to choose the context in which the Demiurge is ‘evil’ rather than ‘good’ because of how the series frequently confounds doctrinaire categorization of ‘good and evil’ in favor of pragmatic sympathies.

I believe the way demon king is written in Japanese can also mean “magic king” or “king of magic” I might be wrong since I don’t know japanese but believe that “maou” can mean both.
So they got a skill similar to spirit descend but with demons, hmm shouldn’t it be called “Demon Spirit Raising”? Haha hmm so they will get buffed by being possessed by one of Vandal’s spirit clones? Or will they be possessed by one of the spirits that are at Van’s service? I mean the spirit descend skill have many tiers, spirit descend, heroic spirit descend and so on… I think the only person that has the God Spirit Descend currently in the whole world is Darcia, the five colored blades only have Heroic Spirit Descend and their heroic spirits got killed.

No, no, he has a point here. I love Vida as much as everyone else here but, both Vida and Alda commit mistakes. Vida trying to resurrect Zakkart knowing that his soul had been destroyed and then creating a bunch of new races with Evil Gods. And Alda, that guy just overreact to that situation, he just wanted all to become like it was before Guduranis came but that is impossible. In the end, although it was necessary increase the population, Vida seek it too soon; and while the past it was a beatiful thing, Alda still not realize that you need to look forward and adapt to the new times (It was because of this that altough had been 100,000 years the civilization had not progressed at all

I think this new skill has to do with the new abilities he got from the Demon King Job namely create servant and demon encroachment.
A way I’m kind of reading the skill is that usually Familiar Spirit Descent is a Familiar Spirit descends from on high down to you. Demonfall however seems more like you yourself fall towards being a demon. I might be thinking to far into this and it could just be Demon Falling onto you. Maybe evoking something similar to Lucifer. I could also read it meaning a part of the Demon King fell to you. So the fall has to do with a piece falling off Van. I am really looking forward to the next chapter, hehe.

What a cheat to change into a job and then be lvl 100 right away. Van-sama is now officially going to become a god after all this time. But it is funny as he is already able to fight/kill/eat gods while still being mortal (?). From all the hints we now have about Dark King Magic skill it is an ultra OP skill. Wonder about the full abilities of that skill.

The biggest thing to keep in mind is the ability is a passive skill. From the conversation Vida and Rinklent had a while ago Van hasn’t really been consciously controlling it yet. I think Dark King Magic was probably already able to do all the skills it just absorbed, but it does definitively show that Dark King magic has way more uses than just disinfectant, bug killing, anti aging, and defense shields.
I think Vans Dark King Magic has been so tame thus far because the researchers in Origin never really tested it as a weapon. They were more interested in money making products and afraid of Van gaining power to use against them. After being reborn in Lambda Van tried to come up with offensive Death Attribute spells but I think because of the past trauma he wasn’t able to truly explore Death Magics options. I hope these skills joining Dark King Magic will allow Van to break out of the limited box he had for Death Magic and start to explore alternative uses for it. It really is such a waste to have 10 billion mana but only have physical attacks to use.

I think its more like Van hasn’t really been delicate with his magic when it comes to offense, of course it is easier to literally blast things so hard they drop dead in an other dimension, but using more complex techniques that he would have to come up with on his own takes a lot of time. I’m sure we’re going to see that thought sooner or later.

That’s very ture, but remember that he’s always had trouble controlling him Mana due to the sheer size of his Mana Pool. A piece of a fingernail sized chunk of his Mana at this point would be equal to the entire Mana Pool of multiple First-class Mages. Trying to be delicate with something so “small” yet still large enough to blow holes in yourself, is not easy.

I’m trying to explain that I’m a Dhampir who wishes to live a quiet, happy life. I take care not to trouble myself with any enemies, like Alda and Guduranis, that would cause me to lose sanity. That is how I deal with godhood, and I know that is what brings me happiness. Although, if I were to fight I wouldn’t lose to anyone.

It would be good if he gets some higher tier skills that swallow his old ones. Honestly I feel like demon king body should have swallowed his original body enhancement and manipulation skills that didn’t have anything to do with the demon king, to reflect it becoming in a true sense his own body.
I’m hoping mastering a divine path job will either cause a rejection and removal of his divine blessings or merge them into something like Enhanced Attribute Values: Pantheon. Other than that, a soul mastery, Mana mastery, and maybe emperor skill that merges his leadership buff type skills seem like a good start. Although if it goes that route it kinda feels like there should be a body mastery for symmetry.

I think part of the problem for God’s getting Blessings from others has to do with how God’s gather strength. A God gets more powerful the more they’re worshipped. If you are under someone else then I feel like people would channel their prayers to the higher God more.
It could also be there is no real reason for God’s to bless each other. Blessing people makes those people your signboard to drum up faith. All the deeds they do are associated with you and in return you give them power to accomplish those deeds. Basically heroes are like sponsored athletes. The athlete gets the training and equipment he needs to win tournaments and in returns puts the logo or brand of the sponsor on his jersey.
God’s for the most part don’t directly fight because it’s tantamount to suicide to do so. So even if one God gives another their power that second God can’t really go out and use it.

Thanks for the chapter. Kind of think getting the skill demigod is a little underwhelming for Vand, he is already a god so seems to be a little low for him. Maybe he needed demigod before getting the skill god. Glad to see he chose a proper name for a job, but that makes me more curious about the other proper named ones. The next ones I would like to see would be Dead Spirit Mage, Dark King Mage, Divine Enemy, Fallen Warrior, Destruction Guider, Chaos Guider, Hollow King Mage, Demon Ruler, Creator, Pale Rider, Tartarus, God Destroyer, or Qliphoth. Also it mentioned false shadow user, but I didn’t see that with the other jobs or did I miss it. That was kind of funny, with Vand gaining a level 100 job, I suspect the same things would happen with mage jobs, possibly the guider jobs, the demon ruler, creator, god destroyer, and divine enemy or Vand could level those up quickly. I suspect Vand will choose those last two when he fights more gods of alda’s fraction.

4) I don’t think that insta-levelling thing is likely to happen again, it was only possible here because this job allowed him to essentially retroactively gain experience for things he’d already done (acquiring DK frags) and I doubt very many jobs allow that.

A thing to remember with becoming a Demigod is its not as simple as it sounds. There have been a lot of people who reached the level of power required to be elevated into one, but all those people needed someone to lift them up there. That’s even true for Heroic God’s. Now it’s simpler for monsters because rank increases change the body and soul more drastically than job changes do. For all the humanoids without ranks though? They needed help. Part of the reason the majority of Vidas races are monsters is because Vida couldn’t raise the human ones up.
Van by himself has officially become a Demigod. Not just strong enough to be one like Schneider or Heinz. It means even if someone killed Van now he would most likely just ascend. There’s no real chance of his soul returning to Vidas circle of reincarnation. Van is the first being on Lambda we’ve seen attain Godhood on their own. The Evil God’s pulled it off as well, but their journey took hundreds of years. Van accomplished this first step into the divine at 11.
Another interesting part about this is now that Van is officially part God he might be able to start collecting power from faith just like other God’s. Just about everyone in the boundary mountain range worships him already and a good deal of influential people fear him on the other side. This could honestly boost his level in the job but also bring lasting status boosts.
For job choices I will say Van probably has a zero chance of taking Dead Spirit Mage, Dark King Mage, or Hollow King Mage. Dead Spirit Mage is to low of a job as an entry level caster job while the other two while they would specifically help his spells he seems to be leveling that fine. Their other benefits would be mana and int growth both of which Van doesn’t need more, lol.
I do hope he takes another out there one like Tartarous or Pale Rider. I am really curious of the stats those would give, lol. Maybe he’ll also be convinced to choose Insect Nin and finally fulfill the Empusa dream of seeing a real live ninja.
For instant maxing I think you might be right on Demon Ruler since he has an entire entourage of them tamed already. It probably wouldn’t work for the mage jobs or creator though sadly. The reason Demon King insta maxed was because Van is constantly already doing Demon King things.
He has an entire force of Demons under him, his body contains multiple fragments of the Demon King. He rules over multiple types of monsters. Owns and creates dungeons. He is also widely regarded and feared as the Demon King by those of the light. (Alda and his crew). His mind, body, mana, and soul are completely monstrous. It’s honestly harder to list how he’s not like a demon king, lol.

As for the skill itself, that brings up a question that the series hasn’t answered (at least not to my knowledge). Demigods were usually a part of Greek/Roman myths, where heroes like Hercules and Aeneas were literally part god due to having one as a parent.
Is that possible in the Death Mage ‘Verse besides Vida?
‘Cause the evidence seems to say no. Vida is explicitly a life goddess, so creating races seems like a divine power (like Alda’s Authority/Judgement thing) and it’s unclear whether she directly birthed one who converted others (like the True Ancestor and Darcia) or birthed in a metaphorical sense (as in allowing the race to exist). It could also be a mix of both.
There’s also the Elves/Dwarves, who were apparently created (I don’t think it’s ever directly said as “birthed”) by… Botin and Shizarion, I think? And even then, it’s unclear whether Vida’s help was required to do so.
So that leaves Bellwood as the only other god who has descendants in Marshukzarl (I forget if he thinks it’s fake or not), but even then that’s unclear as whether he had children before or after ascension.
But then that leaves the next issue: If it was Vida’s authority, shouldn’t Alda have gotten it when he stole her authority over life?
‘Cause if he had the ability to create direct descendants this whole time… that opens up a huge can of worms!
He’s apparently had trouble with getting Divine Messages that can be understood. If it was a direct descendant, they would be part divine, and would have a higher probability of comprehending them, wouldn’t they?
Corruption in the church? Twisting of his doctrine? If he put his actual children in charge, that’d be much less likely as they’d have a personal connection and desire to please him.
He needs heroes? A god’s children would probably be both powerful and loyal (granted the great “need” for heroes happened relatively recently, so this isn’t as egregious).
So if it is possible, that leaves the question of why not?
If it’s a moral thing, I think that’s a stretch because it’s not like he would be raping his followers, and his religion doesn’t outright forbid sex or child-making. Even moreso because he’s been shown to act hypocritical if it’s for a purpose.
It’s not logistics, because as long as he keeps the number small and manageable they’re not going to overpopulate Lambda. And as Vida has shown, it’s not like creating a child (or races) saps god power from you.
The only other possibility is that he’d be afraid that siring a child wouldn’t produce a human/Elf/Dwarf but a new species, much like Vida mating with an Elf produced a Dark Elf.
But if that’s the case, why should that matter? If it does result in a new race, just don’t have that child convert more. And if it does, destroy it and start again. It’s not like Alda wouldn’t kill the child the moment it stepped out of line…
And even if it is a new race, it has no blood from evil gods, so as long as he can move them to Rodcorte’s circle they should be acceptable to integrate.
And finally, we don’t know whether or not Bellwood forbid it. I think as long as the races were “natural” and “native” to Lambda, he shouldn’t have a problem because they’re not going to suddenly develop the oh-so-terrifying soy sauce.
So that leaves Alda having ignored this potentially devastating ability for thousands of years… because Vida did it? He’s trying to slut-shame her so hard, he’s consigned himself and his followers to be eternal virgins?
Wow. I didn’t think Alda could get worse, but that’s a level of petty worthy of a god of the law…
P.S. Do we also make jokes now that our editor Sebas Tian has a problem with Van’s title because it reminds him of an asshole he once worked with?

Short answer: Godhood is not inherited in Death Mage. As a corollary, ‘Demigod’ does not mean the child of a god and a mortal. Instead, it means a god who has a physical body. You could consider it synonymous with ‘Incarnated God’.
Also, the elves were created by Peria and Shizarion, and the dwarves were created by Botin and Zantark.

But I’ve got to ask, how do you know godhood isn’t inherited? Over generations of the entire race? Absolutely agree, as Vida’s races aren’t any more divine than humanity. But the direct progeny? We don’t know. The best test subject we have, the True Ancestor, is dead/sealed. But from what we know, he was the strongest Vampire that ever existed, and all vampires are in some way descended from him. So, it seems more likely that the farther you are genetically from your god, the less power you have (presumably as more mortal-ness genes override the divine genes). We don’t have enough information to draw a conclusion on the direct progeny.

I’m not even trying to say you’re wrong; you could be 100% right, but if you don’t give me a hint on where to look for your claim I can’t take your word at face value.
So please, tell me where you got these facts:
A) Demi/Sub gods breeding very slowly. Where is this implied? Rereading the chapter explaining the mythology of Lambda, it is not stated how long it took Vida to create her races, only the order. There isn’t an indication this took place over centuries or millennia. The only thing I can think of that implies this is the relatively low reproduction of her current races, but even that is suspect because each race has different methods and requirements. Where is your evidence?
B) Requiring parents to be planetside. Disregarding the fact that the human half would need to be powerful enough (I do agree with you on that, but the same problem arises in that there isn’t clear evidence, just guesswork), where is it stated Vida needed to descend to Earth in order to mate with the parents? Apparently, descending takes a lot of power, when there is the alternate option of the champion entering her divine realm. It’s not impossible for mortals to enter those, as shown when the Evil Gods under Vida invited Van to a meeting along with his mortal companions. Could it be possible some races were born that way, especially since we don’t know exactly when the gods couldn’t freely descend? It could have been during the Demon King War or directly afterwards. I don’t know, but if you have a clearer picture then please let me know.
C) The existing Demi/Sub gods are all busy. Are they? Every time we cut back to Alda fretting over something Van did, there’s always a bunch of gods and heroic spirits surrounding him. Are we supposed to believe he has apparently never granted a woman the honor of ascending, when we have evidence of the female heroic elf spirit tied to Diana of the Blades? And he can’t take just one of those gods/spirits and produce an offspring like the Majin, who in turn can convert other races? Vida could apparently do so with Zantark, so what evidence is there that Alda cannot?
Again, I’m not trying to be rude or insulting. I’m willing to believe you do have evidence for your claims, but you don’t list them, so I can’t prove or disprove them. I don’t even need super-specific citations, like “Chapter X, Paragraph Y.” Just tell me the general event where these facts are given to you so I can look them up myself without having to scan through the entire story.

I think, and I may be wrong, the demon element encroachment now let’s him encroach upon and control/guide demons in a similar way to mental encroachment. The reason I think this is because if remember correctly, which I might not, when they went through the dungeons in the majin territory the demons were scared of van but didnt obey him like undead do. With life perversion he may be able to make demons too since I’m fairly sure the demon king originally made the demons and since they werent unique skills in their own right chances are guduranis had them at some point and possibly some evil gods. Not quite sure if that’s how it works though since I’ve seen it mentioned that the mark of a god is not having a status. So I dont know whether they get actual skills or it’s just divinity let’s them act like they have skills.

HIs status changed but he didn’t have any god like traits and needed to job change to make those changes take proper effect.

I love that Van created his own familiar spirit descent lol. I am curious though if it was the Demon King or Demiurge job that made this happen though.
I also find all the skills that got wrapped up into Dark King Magic and Mutation Induction interesting. That seems to show for me at least these two skills have the potential to do a lot more than what we have currently seen.
I kind of wonder now if the fact that Vans a Demigod has increased his level of immortality. For instance I think to injure God’s you needed Orichalcum or Demon King Fragments. Normal or even slightly above average magical weapons wouldn’t cut it. I wonder if this new change might throw a complete wrenching into whatever Murakamis groups plan is.

As for Murakamis they are 100% F’d now. Before they had a SLIGHT chance of at least causing problems with their cheat skills. But a fully realized Demigod capable of creating their own decent skill should have either psuedo immortality or just a body especially resistant to attack.
Meaning only gods or heros able to rival the gods can challange him now. But while their cheat skills are strong they never fought anything beyond human in Origin and in Lamda they are rookies. They aren’t even slightly ready to rival gods

If only he knew how right and appropriate that comparison is given that Van is the emperor of multiple nations. Anyways Earl Morksi is probably the most competent noble of a foreign power we’ve met. The Legstons and Ragdews don’t count since they defected to Van’s side rather quickly. Earl Morksi is no longer going to spy on Van since he thinks that it would sour their relationship if Van discovers him still spying on him after they established a friendly connection. Instead the Earl is gonna have his people look out for Van and his people against dangerous or troublesome beings like Alda fundamentalists.

I don’t think it’s necessary to migrate to Talosheim. Van can’t keep bringing every ally he makes back to Talosheim. Sure the place is big but it’s not that big and there would also be problems transporting people to the other nations in the Southern Boundary Range. It’s better to just keep his allies where they are since they can spread the teachings of Vida easier to their neighbors.
Also even when war does eventually break out, the Orbaum Kingdom will be mostly safe. Alda already said that most of their heroes are on the Amid Empire side of the Southern Boundary Range. It would be logistically impossible to gather an army with the heroes leading it and send them over the mountains. Meanwhile the heroes that they DO have in the Orbaum Kingdom would not just work with the ones from the Amid Empire that have been their mortal enemies all this time.

Van has shown he has no intention of hurting anyone. In fact selling the Gobugobu and Kobold meat is a God send to deal with the poor district. It gives weak adventurers work and also makes sure no one starves. This will considerably cut down on crime in the city. If he can help Van to export the method elsewhere they could get major good will and clout in other cities.

Woah, the ‘Demiurge’ job is amazing in a different way than I thought. I expected it to boost his ability to make materials from pure mana, but it gave him the ‘Demigod’ skill…
His stats other than mana have roughly doubled, which is pretty dang surprising, but it’s not too clear how much of that came from devouring Hihiryushukaka, how much came from the instantly-levelled ‘Demon King’ job, and how much came from gaining the ‘Demiurge’ job.
He can finally give his followers a ‘Familiar Spirit Descent’-like skill, I’ve been waiting for that.
So many skill changes… where do I even begin?
The new skills he got from the ‘Demon King’ job seem straightforward, except for ‘Demon Element Encroachment’. What does that mean? I don’t really even have any guesses.
‘Enhanced Body Part (Hair, Claws, Tongue, Fangs)’, ‘Coordination’, and ‘Commanding’ have hit level 10. It’s time to start wondering what they’ll awaken into.
I don’t know if ‘Strengthened Attack Power while Unarmed’ can awaken, but I think ‘Very Large’ is the maximum level for skills that are listed that way, so it might.
‘Rapid Regeneration’, ‘Chant Revocation’, ‘Body Expansion (Tongue)’, ‘Increased Mana Recovery Rate’, ‘Throwing’, ‘Dead Spirit Magic’, and ‘Mental Encroachment’ are all quite close to awakening as well, though I did kind of think that ‘Increased Mana Recovery Rate’ would fuse into ‘Automatic Mana Recovery’ when it awakened. Guess I was wrong on that. I do wonder how ‘Dead Spirit Magic’ would awaken, but most of the rest seem fairly straightforward.
It’s still not really clear if ‘Demon King’s Body’ means anything besides that Van’s status won’t include that huge list of physical fragments anymore.
Now the ‘Demigod’ skill… it seems clear at least that it’s the reason his followers have gained Demonfall skills, but what else would it even mean? Does it mean he’s technically an incarnated god now? Or just that he has similar properties? Is it a normal way for one to attain godhood, or is Van following a completely unknown path here?
Also, as a side note, it seems Dalton’s worries about using his ‘Familiar Spirit Descent’ skill after gaining Van’s divine protection were unfounded. Van will be giving him a separate skill for that. 🙂

If i remember correctly, The Demiurge was a false creator, basically what happened was that God, more or less the biblical one, came and made the universe, them the Demiurge came made a few things from what god created and named himself the creator, though in a sense he did have power that was considered godly in a way. That would be why it god him the Demigod skill

Well there are different interpretations on the Demiurge. The one I know is that it is a divine being that can create things but has no agency and only does what God tells it to do. Basically it’s a divine tool that God used to make the universe.

Mmmm, I think the Demigod skill is an unknown method of reaching divinity. After all, his current prevents him from taking normal jobs. We should take his job name of [Demiurge] for reference.
If done, I think he probably has enhanced creation ability, but he is still only half-god. He is approaching divinity now and may have strengthen the Divine Bloodline in his veins…….He might gain stronger physical abilities as a result, but other than that, we can only see.
…….Still, I am not going to lie. I sure as hell didn’t see the effects of the [Demon King] job coming. Who have thought the job was a special type that gathered experience from collecting Demon King Fragments?
Adding even more to shock, I didn’t think all the Fragments really fused into a [Demon King’s Body], since I thought the System Voice was just expressing how the Fragments were assisting one another or something in the earlier announcement.i never thought I was so inattentive. At this rate, we probably shouldn’t be surprised when the [Demon King] absorbed the other DK skills during a new fusion evolution.
My last shock was the absorbed skills from the Demon King job. After all, [Mutation Induction] can now bypass and sustain others’ vitality as their race is forcibly changed, and Vandalieu-sama has now skipped the hard work needed to slowly develop a proper spell for reincarnation. With both Soul Binding and Reincarnation Imitation spells, he can set about to establishing or fixing up Transmigration Systems which is ironically what Rodcorte feared.
The only thing troubling is how his Guidance now has Demon Elements in them. Now, I can guess that he might be able to guide and control Demons much more easily, but I worry whether everyone might get suffer demon related racial changes…..If they do, I guess that is another way to create indestructible subjects.

Given that it came from the Demon King job I assume ‘Demon Element Encroachment’ is related to the corrupting effect of the Demon King’s mana.
Remember one of the reasons they feared Gundaris besides his soul breaking power was his mana slowly infected the world turning it and the creatures into something under his control.
So I’m guessing his will strengthen his ability to infuse mana into the world around him and change it’s nature to suit his needs

Isaac remains one of the only competent nobles not already under van. VAN has officially acquired at least partial godhood his believes can summon his familiar spirits into themselves. So here’s a prediction ITS JUST A PREDICTION I HAVEN’T TEAD AHEAD. I Know from the discord the next chapter is a side story so maybe mei has just revived the ability to have banda “descend” into her (even though she’s kinda already treated as banda’s main body) can’t wait to find out

I would guess that Qhiloth might be able to fully max on pick up. It is apparently cast off husk or shell of soul and considering how much stuff Van has added to his own soul through Devouring I think he could qualify for level 100 of it.

Thank you for this chapter Yoshi and so soon. Finally Van choose the demon king job and for some reason he immediately jumped to level 100 after choosing that job. Was not expecting the level jump to happen. I think that Van choosing the Demiurge job afterwards was a bit hasty, but now Van has the demigod skill. At this point with his power, skills and strength he might as well be a little too late for him to acquired that skill. Also now that Van is getting stronger with leaps and bounds, Heinz, Murakami and Asagi, eat your heart out.

I feel like Isaac has too much in the city of Morksi to pick up and move to Taloshiem. What could be nice though is if he manages to make a trade agreement with Van. Morksi is a trade city, so it could be nice to sell and export some of the boundary mountain stuff (of course with a stamp saying it’s connected to worship of Vida) across the Duchy.
