Matthew was in the back garden of the orphanage. Marsha, one of his many siblings with whom he shared no blood relation, had caught a mouse and taught it tricks.
“Oswald, sit! Lie down!” Marsha said to the very ordinary mouse in her palm.
It simply stared up at her, not listening.
“Good boy. Here’s your reward,” she said, giving it some breadcrumbs.
The mouse immediately stood on its hind legs, took the crumbs with its front paws and began eating hungrily.
“Marsha, this mouse just wants to eat. You definitely haven’t tamed it,” said Matthew in an exasperated tone.
Marsha puffed up her cheeks. “That’s not true! Oswald likes me more than your bat likes you, Matthew-niichan!”
“M-my Nightwing likes me too! He never flies away from me even when I lift it up!”
“He’s still a baby, so he can’t, can he! He’ll definitely fly away once he grows up!”
“That’s not true! He ate food out of my hand earlier today!”
Marsha’s mouse was named Oswald, and Matthew had a young bat named Nightwing.
The reason that Matthew and Marsha were trying to tame animals was because Tamers were currently very popular among the children in the orphanage.
The reason for this popularity was Vandalieu’s visits to the orphanage to make donations, during which he had been accompanied by Fang, Maroru, Urumi and Suruga.
Despite the fact that it was winter and not many animals were around, the children had found small animals that might be good pets and were trying to tame them.
Some, like Marsha, caught mice while others, like Matthew, caught baby bats that had been abandoned in the attic… Once spring came, it was likely that the children would be trying to take the frogs and snakes that came out of hibernation.
This was because the orphanage’s food situation had improved to the point that there was not only enough food for the orphans, but enough to feed the small animals as well.
Vandalieu, the cause of this taming trend, was dealing with it appropriately. He had told the children to show him any animals they had caught. This was so that he could cast the ‘Sterilization,’ ‘Disinfect’ and ‘Bug Killer’ spells to prevent the children from catching any diseases from the mice and bats.
“Hey, don’t fight,” said the nun Seris as she entered the back garden, having noticed their argument.
“But Seris-oneechan, Matthew-niichan’s…!” Marsha whined.
“Marsha told me I haven’t tamed Nightwing!” Matthew complained.
“Marsha, Oswald will be bothered if you talk so loudly,” said Seris. “Matthew, that bat is still just a child, so don’t rush things and raise it patiently until it grows up… and I think you could give it a more normal name,” she added. “Go inside, now. You’ll catch a cold – Huh?”
Right before Seris’s very eyes, a group of masked men leapt nimbly over the walls and dropped into the courtyard.
“Come quietly – Wait, what?” said one of the masked men – the earl’s spies.
Seris, Marsha and Matthew stood completely still, staring at them. The spies froze as they realized that they were the only ones there.
They were supposed to be capturing Aggar and his companions, but where in the world had they gone?
Seris let out a scream. “What are you, kidnappers?! Thieves?!” she shouted at the spies.
The spies came to their senses and realized that they were holding their weapons and the ropes for tying up Aggar and his companions; they looked like kidnappers or thieves themselves.
“P-please don’t harm the children!” Seris begged the spies.
“Fall back! Retreat!” one of the spies shouted.
Marsha let out a terrified scream as well.
“Damn you! Take this!” shouted Matthew, throwing stones at the spies.
Vestra, having heard the screams, came running. “What’s the matter?! What happened?!”
The spies fled the scene with great haste. They succeeded in leaping over the walls once more, but their minds were greatly shaken.
Just where had Aggar and his friends disappeared to?
There was snow in the courtyard. But Aggar and his friends’ footprints weren’t in the snow… Where the hell did they go?! Did they fly away or vanish like mist?! the captain of the spies wondered, bewildered. But… how do we report this blunder to the earl?
Having entered the courtyard of the orphanage through the back door, Aggar and his companions crept behind the boy and the girl, the first two children that they would be kidnapping. They intended to put cloth bags over their heads from behind, cover their mouths through the cloth and carry them out.
But the Elf girl with long, silver hair quietly stood up.
“… You have crossed the line,” she said in a flat tone as she turned around to face the would-be kidnappers.
“It really is an Elf. Since when was there an Elf orphan here… Wait, Elves develop more slowly after they reach the age of ten. Are you one of the nuns?” one of Aggar’s companions asked, confused by the appearance of an Elf girl that had not been a part of their plans.
This orphanage was privately managed, and it was located in the slums. Aggar and his companions were city guards, and it was difficult to say that they were dedicated to their jobs. They were not particularly thorough when patrolling the slums, and there was no way that they would know the races and names of the orphans and nuns at the orphanage.
“Don’t bother talking to her, you fool! Who cares if she’s an orphan or one of the nuns, hurry up and kidnap her!” Aggar shouted quietly, displaying a surprising amount of caution.
His companions began moving forward again.
Since they had already been noticed, they took knives from their pockets, intending to threaten the children to capture them.
“If you scream or make any noise, I’m going to stick this knife in your belly. Hey, stand up already, you brat!” one of Aggar’s companions shouted as he forcefully reached out at the shoulder of the boy, who was still crouching and facing the other way.
But as his fingers touched the boy’s old, patch-covered jacket, they silently slipped right into it.
“Huh…?” he uttered, bewildered.
With a bubbling noise, what the man had thought was a boy of about ten years of age turned into a red-black fluid that began to suck the man in.
The man let out a scream. “W-what the hell is this?! H-help me!”
“I-it’s a Slime, a Mimic Slime that disguised itself as a brat! If we don’t help him quickly, it’s gonna dissolve and eat him!” one of Aggar’s other companions shouted.
The bubbling noise grew louder.
Kühl, the Satan Blood Mimic Slime that had disguised itself as a boy, let out a groan that made no attempt to conceal his discontent.
He had a refined taste; he didn’t want these people’s disgusting meat.
He was not trying to pull the man in to eat him, but to capture him.
“Shit, I should have brought my spear!” Aggar cursed.
The man being pulled in began gurgling as his face went under Kühl’s surface.
“Hurry up and find the core! He’s going to suffocate before he gets eaten!” one of the other men shouted.
All of them were repeatedly trying to stab Kühl with their knives, and this may have worked against an ordinary Rank 2 Slime, but Kühl was a Rank 11 Satan Blood Mimic Slime. Stabs with small knives by Aggar and his companions, who were just ordinary guards in terms of strength, wouldn’t harm him even if they aimed at his core.
“Shit! Oi, you’re the one who tamed this Slime, right?! Make it stop!” Aggar shouted, giving up on freeing his companion and pointing his knife towards the girl instead. “If you don’t –”
“I see. You intend to challenge me… Very well. It is too late to say that you are reckless and foolhardy,” said Gufadgarn, the evil god who resided in a vessel that had the form of an Elf girl, as she directed a cold gaze at Aggar.
“What are you…”
A line appeared on Gufadgarn’s nose. It stretched from her forehead to between her legs.
And with a creaking noise, Gufadgarn opened.
Aggar screamed.
Gufadgarn’s body was opening vertically as if it were a gate. From the darkness within, a countless number of enormous insect legs reached out to pull Aggar in.
“You are a fool. But I am sure that such words are impossible to understand for a creature that does not even notice that it was spared by the mercy of a great being,” Gufadgarn murmured.
“S-stop! Help, no, PLEASE!” Aggar begged desperately as the mysterious insect legs took hold of him and drew him in.
“You should have made your choice before you came through that door… before you crossed the line that you should not have crossed,” Gufadgarn said coldly.
Aggar was completely absorbed within Gufadgarn’s body, which closed again and returned to normal. His muffled screams vanished as the space within was cut off.
“A-Aggar?! Aggar’s been eaten!” one of the two remaining guards shouted.
“Run, we need to run!” shouted the other.
The two of them gave up on rescuing the one that had been captured by Kühl to escape from the orphanage.
But as they turned around, they saw that the door that they had come through had vanished.
“What?! Why…?!”
Aggar and his companions had not noticed that the door had been connected to a labyrinth ruled by Gufadgarn, the evil god of labyrinths.
The men had walked into the place of their execution.
“Do you want women, boys? Then come and eat me,” a voice said.
One of the men let out a dull scream as he was struck from behind with a fruit that was as hard as steel, and now there was only one left.
“Do you want children? Then come and play house with my daughters,” said another voice.
The last man was surrounded by monsters that were a combination of women and bees. He was eaten alive, and then there were no more.
Kühl made a questioning noise.
“… Luciliano’s order was for three more ‘new test subjects.’ You captured two, Kühl… I wonder if there’s going to be a problem with that broken jaw?” asked Quinn, looking at the third man.
“That can be fixed,” said Eisen.
And with that, this place that resembled the back garden of the orphanage fell silent.
Meanwhile, Bachem, the Guild Master of the Morksi branch of the Tamers’ Guild, was in the reception room of Duke Alcrem’s mansion.
Tackard, the current Duke Alcrem, had summoned Bachem here saying that he wanted to hear what he had to say. Bachem had flown here on his tamed Huge Wyvern.
“It seems that this boy named Vandalieu and the Dark Elf that calls herself his mother are quite strange, and more importantly, quite exceptional. But it seems that they are acting under some special circumstances or for their own purposes,” said Tackard, a man with a drooping face who was approaching middle-age.
Naturally, what he had wanted to hear about was Vandalieu, who had appeared in the city of Morksi, the second Dhampir to appear in the kingdom.
Bachem had answered all of Tackard’s questions. Of course, Vandalieu was protected by the rules of the Tamers’ Guild, and there was almost no information available, so he had simply ended up telling Tackard everything he knew.
But Bachem wasn’t a spy, and he hadn’t been investigating Vandalieu.
“Duke, what I have just told you is information that almost everyone in the city already knows. Even the information regarding his tamed monsters could have been told to you by any of the city’s Tamers or Adventurers’ Guild members,” said Bachem.
Indeed, what Bachem had told Tackard was just information that would not be strange for anyone in the city to know, and information regarding his tamed monsters, which had been a Black Dog and Murder Rats at the time Bachem left the city.
This information could have been learned by a spy after a single day’s investigation, and it was not enough to deduce Vandalieu’s circumstances and intentions.
This wasn’t worth going to the effort of summoning Bachem, who wasn’t employed by the duke, to report.
“Hmm, I apologize for calling you out here so forcibly. But I did not have unreasonable expectations that you or I would be able to know or find out the inner thoughts of this Dhampir boy… Vandalieu Zakkart,” said Tackard.
Bachem had no obligation to report information about Vandalieu to the duke’s family, as he hadn’t committed any crimes.
Despite being harassed by the Commerce Guild, Vandalieu was continuing the operation of his food cart as if nothing had happened. He already had skills worthy of being called a capable tamer. He had associated the food carts in the back alleys with himself using Goblin and Kobold meat. His mother had summoned a familiar spirit of Vida.
All of this information was not something for Bachem to have to report to Tackard Alcrem. That was the job of the earl of the city of Morksi, and the intelligence agency that served the duke’s family.
“But you are likely the only one who could tell me about that boy’s nature. For some reason, he makes no attempt at registering at the Adventurers’ Guild, and Earl Morksi has only sent messengers to him once. As for the Commerce Guild…” Tackard trailed off. “I could not possibly summon the nuns at the orphanage or the rookie guard at the city’s gate. So, Bachem, what do you think of the boy’s character?”
“So that is why… However, I do think he is promising, but I do not know what he thinks of me. Thus, I cannot say anything with certainty. From my conversations with him, I thought that he is a very adult-like boy. He is calmer than and more rational than one would expect from how old he physically appears to be,” said Bachem.
“I see. Is there anything else that you have noticed?” Tackard asked.
Bachem searched through his memory, but he couldn’t think of anything in particular. “He is expressionless and he speaks with a flat tone, but I do not think he does not have emotions or is suppressing them; he is likely simply the kind of person whose emotions are not expressed on his face or in his voice. And I think he has a kind personality. At the very least, he is not short-tempered.”
If Vandalieu wasn’t kind, he wouldn’t tame a stray dog or donate to an orphanage… And he had visited the orphanage personally to interact with the children, rather than as a publicity stunt.
On top of that, short-tempered people could not become Tamers. For tamed monsters to become as attached to their owners as Vandalieu’s, patience was required in addition to compatibility. That was what Bachem thought.
“I see. The views of someone who has directly met and spoken with him are precious, as I expected. I am grateful for your valuable opinion, Bachem,” said Tackard, nodding.
He knew a lot about Bachem, and considered his insight to be trustworthy… though this was also partially because Earl Morksi’s report had been rather strange.
According to his written report, he is always expressionless and his eyes are always empty, as if he is wearing a mask, making it seem that he has no human-like will. The earl suspected that he might be a puppet of the mother, but it does not seem that way, Tackard thought. The other problem is his mother, who was able to summon a familiar spirit…
“What about the mother?” Tackard asked.
“I have not spoken to the mother personally, as she is not a Tamer… I have only heard her sermon at the Communal Church. However, I have not heard anything bad about her,” said Bachem.
“Hmm… but I have heard that she associates herself with a man who cannot be described as having dignity and nobility.”
Darcia was treated like a saint after summoning a familiar spirit, but there were also rumors that she was the ‘Starving Wolf’ Michael’s woman.
Thinking that Tackard was referring to this, Bachem shook his head. “I know about the ‘Starving Wolf’ Michael, but it is just a one-sided affair in which he is attempting to court her. Their food cart is located in the entertainment district, so she could not help but catch his eye,” he said. “And I do not believe that the man named Michael is as evil as the rumors make him out to be… He is the most pleasant of the entertainment district bosses since I was first entrusted with the management of the Morksi branch of the Guild.”
That was Bachem’s honest opinion.
“I see,” Tackard said with a nod, seeming to have no intention of denying this view. “To begin with, the fact that she has summoned a familiar spirit means that there is no doubt in her character. Alda’s extremists and fanatic worshipers of Bellwood do not hesitate in denouncing Vida as evil, but… if that were the case, Alda would not have allowed her to be resurrected.”
He was under the impression that Vida had been resurrected because Alda had forgiven her sins.
This was very far from the truth, but those who believed that Alda was the chief of the gods would not imagine that Alda’s authority could be undone by any other than Alda himself.
If Juliana were unharmed, she may have been a good mediator, but… No, there is no use in thinking about that, thought Tackard, remembering his younger sister that was supposed to have been ‘saved’ by Randolf at his own request.
Juliana had apparently always worshiped a variety of goddesses, and worshiped Vida particularly fervently. Tackard had only learned this information from others; he did not know her personally very well.
Tackard’s father, the previous Duke Alcrem, had suddenly introduced Juliana to him as his half-sister ten years ago. Going against the objections of Tackard and all of his own vassals, Tackard’s father had recognized her as his daughter, given her the surname ‘Alcrem’ and made her a member of the duke’s family.
He had at least made Juliana give up her rights to succeed as head of the family, but even so, his decision had caused much uproar. He had then died bringing her into the family, and Juliana had lived in the city, so she had not been educated as a noblewoman. Tackard had gone through much trouble – those attempting to use her to form connections with the duke’s family had been among the less serious problems; others had tried to trap her and chip away at the family’s influence.
The family had at least managed to make her appear to be a proper noble lady, but because of the circumstances around her birth, it wasn’t simple to offer her to another family as a bride. Juliana had become employed as a knight of her own will, but she had unfortunately been so successful that she was praised as a ‘princess knight.’ And the main goddess she worshipped was Vida, the goddess of life and love.
Because of that, there were more people who had attempted to use her to cause political problems and harm the Alcrem family’s influence.
That was why Tackard had not made great attempts to save her after she was captured by the Minotaur King’s horde. Randolf had likely wondered why he would not use the family’s influence and assets to save her, but this country had eleven other dukes, and in the capital, there were more troublesome individuals than dukes.
It was highly likely that such individuals would accuse Tackard of intentionally setting her up to be captured, making her a tragic princess who was captured by a Minotaur King and then utilizing her… then tossing her away.
Tackard was particularly wary of Marshal Dolmad, as such conspiracies were his specialty.
I heard that he was trying to make the young Duke Sauron his puppet until recently, but it seems that Duke Sauron’s rule is not going very well. As someone who is aiming to become the next prime minister, he should be wanting to have something to use against the Alcrem family, Tackard thought.
Dolmad would make Juliana, who was oblivious to all of these things, his puppet. After dealing damage to the Alcrem family’s influence, he would put on a kind outward appearance, dispose of his puppet Juliana in some way and take control over the situation. It was a terrible thing to do, creating trouble and then profiting from it, but Tackard was certain that he was capable of doing something like that.
And the conservative Prime Minister Tercatanis seemed to be concerned that Vida’s resurrection had caused the people’s support to lean more towards Vida rather than Alda.
Politics and religion were separate things on the surface, but there had been plenty of organizations in the past waving the flag of Vida’s religion while they were actually nothing more than groups of insurgents.
Even just a few years ago, the Five-colored Blades had destroyed an organization formed by Lamias. The prime minister couldn’t be blamed for feeling apprehensive about the commoners’ abrupt change in religious beliefs.
It wasn’t as if Juliana only worshiped Vida, but… that didn’t mean that she couldn’t be used as a symbol by such organizations.
Rather than being humiliated and used by nobles in their conspiracies or by groups of insurgents, it would be better for her to be put to rest… No, it is for the honor and rule of my family. This is also one of the duties of someone who was born… was placed in, a noble family, thought Tackard. Forgive me, Juliana… Hmm?
Suddenly sensing someone’s gaze, Tackard looked behind Bachem.
“Is there something wrong, Duke?” Bachem asked, looking puzzled.
There was nobody behind him. There was nowhere for any creature to be hiding, let alone a human. It was just a wall with a tapestry hanging on it.
“No, I thought I sensed someone’s gaze from behind you… I was just imagining things,” said Tackard.
“Come to think of it, I heard a rumor that when you were a child, people told you that you had the qualities to become a spiritualist for the duke’s family. Perhaps you saw a spirit?” Bachem suggested in a joking tone.
Tackard laughed. “You jest. It is true that I saw them in the past, but I do not even sense their presence now.”
Could it be Juliana? Tackard thought to himself, even though he was smiling.
He filled his mouth with the now slightly-cold black tea, trying to drive this thought out of his mind.
But he could not forget it; he would find out later that day that he was wrong.
He received a report from Earl Isaac Morksi that there was a woman who appeared to be Juliana in Vandalieu’s care.
Of course, it was hard to say that this was good news for Tackard.
“I’m sorry, the Guild Master isn’t here today,” the receptionist said to Vandalieu, who had come to the Tamers’ Guild.
She was Bachem’s wife, and she had been at the Communal Church during Darcia’s sermon.
“Yes, I heard when I left through the city’s gate,” Vandalieu told her. “But it’s not that I want him to look at my tamed monsters today; I’m here today to buy new collars and change Jobs…”
“New collars? Have your monsters’ Ranks increased? Wow, no wonder my husband says you’re the kind of genius that only comes once every hundred years,” the receptionist said in admiration. “What kinds of collars do you want?”
Vandalieu explained the special characteristics of Fang and the rats. As the rats were indeed new races, the receptionist was very surprised, and the Guild would pay Vandalieu a cash reward.
It seemed that the Adventurers’ Guild was not the only Guild that offered rewards for discovering new races of monsters and capturing them alive or bringing back a body part that proved their existence.
“Reward money is paid as a collaboration between the Tamers’ Guild, the Adventurers’ Guild and the Mages’ Guild, so be aware that you won’t get more reward money even if you go and report them to the Adventurers’ Guild after this,” the receptionist told Vandalieu.
The existence of new races of monsters was of course necessary to the Tamers’ Guild and Adventurers’ Guild, but also to the Mages’ Guild as they could become the subjects of new research.
“And you’ve even discovered three at once… You might be even more amazing than my husband thinks you are. Aren’t you interested in working at the Tamers’ Guild?” the receptionist asked.
“Sorry, I have other things that I want to do for now,” said Vandalieu.
“I see. As you can see, the Tamers’ Guild is always short on help. If you ever feel like it, please come and work for us, even for short periods of time. We’ll treat you much better than the Commerce Guild.”
There were many associate members that just handled ordinary livestock, but there were few full members that handled monsters compared to Adventurers’ Guild members.
That was why the Tamers’ Guild was always in need of promising Tamers.
“My husband raised his Wyvern from before it hatched, and he was a famous guy known as the ‘Flying Dragon User’ when he was still young. Not a Lesser Wyvern like the ones that have started to be selectively bred a few years ago, but a real, wild Wyvern. And he even increased its Rank,” said the receptionist boastfully. “Even now, he’s been summoned by the duke’s family, you see.”
“… Is it alright for you to be telling me that?” Vandalieu asked.
“It’s fine. He’s probably just been asked to train young dragon knights who can’t make their Lesser Wyverns listen to them. He was summoned for the same reason last year, the year before and the year before that, you know?”
Lesser Wyverns were small, Rank 4 variants of Rank 5 Wyverns, which were considered to be the most inferior among dragons. They grew attached to people more easily than Wyverns, which was why dragon knights currently trained to discipline and ride on Lesser Wyverns first.
Once their Rank increased, they became ordinary Wyverns, so while it did take more time than taming a Wyvern, this method had a higher success rate.
… Incidentally, Fang and the rats were also Rank 4.
“Ah, I’m sorry for getting carried away. I’ll prepare your reward money and collars, so go and change Jobs while you wait,” said the receptionist.
Vandalieu headed for the Job-changing room.
“… Maybe it’s best to have a Golem or spirit follow Bachem’s wife as well, like I did with Bachem,” Vandalieu said to himself.
It was possible that Birkyne or Murakami’s group would target Vandalieu’s associates and friends. Considering that danger, Vandalieu was turning their small possessions into Golems or making spirits follow them.
He wasn’t constantly watching over them, but he would notice if they were ever in danger… Well, it was little more than for his own peace of mind, but he felt far better having done this than if he hadn’t done it.
“Anyway, my Job change…”
Vandalieu turned his attention to the task at hand and touched the crystal ball inside the slightly small Job-changing room of the Tamers’ Guild.
《Jobs that can be selected: Whip Tongue Calamity, Vengeful Berserker, Dead Spirit Mage, Dark King Mage, Divine Enemy, Fallen Warrior, Insect Nin, Destruction Guider, Dungeon Master, Demon King, Chaos Guider, Hollow King Mage, Eclipse Cursecaster, String User, Demon Ruler, Creator, Demiurge, Pale Rider, Tartarus, Wild Spirit, Dark Battery Cannoneer, Magic Staff Creator, Soul Fighter, God Destroyer, Dream Guider, Qliphoth, Dark Beast User (NEW!), Spirit Therapist (NEW!), Artisan: Transformation Equipment (NEW!)》
As always, there were new Jobs available.
“I suppose ‘Dark Beast User’ is there because of Fang and the others? And ‘Artisan: Transformation Equipment’ is because I’ve made so many transformation staves. ‘Spirit Therapist’… If it’s a spirit version of ‘Body Therapist,’ then it might be because Simon and Natania’s training is making progress,” Vandalieu murmured to himself.
Considering these options, Vandalieu wavered, but considering that he often guided people and gave them divine protections in his dreams, he thought it would be best if he could do so a little more consciously, so he went with the choice that he had originally planned.
“I select ‘Dream Guider,’” he said out loud.

“I thought that the ‘Bloodwork’ Skill that Leveled up from drinking Mom’s blood every day and my ‘Enhanced Vitality’ Skill would finally awaken into new Skills, but I guess things aren’t going that well. And my Attribute Values are now all over 10,000,” Vandalieu murmured as he examined his Status and left the Job-changing room.

The vessel of Gufadgarn, the evil god of labyrinths. Her consciousness and a portion of her power resides in it. Her experiences as a god have become Skills, so they are extremely polarized.
The vessel perfectly resembles an Elf girl, and it would be almost impossible to discern her true identity from her appearance, the scent of her body and her presence, but… the inside of her body is a Dungeon, and Gufadgarn’s true vessel, which has the form that she had before she became a god, lies within.

But he is apparently particularly proficient at disguising himself as Vandalieu.
Job explanation: Bestower
A Job that allows one to induce mutations in those they have guided by bestowing a part of themselves (whether it be a part of their physical body or their spirit form). It is unclear as to whether it can be called a ‘job’ as in an occupation, but it is displayed as a Job on the Status.
The mutations induced by this Job are not like transformations from human races into Vida’s races; they are mutations that are not influenced by any gods of this world, including Vida, who may be a parent of their original race.
This power is similar to that of the Demon King and evil gods.
Thus, it is likely that Vandalieu is the only one capable of acquiring this Job.

Van guided the Monster Nations to Vida’s transmigration system. Does that mean there won’t any children born to these taces anymore? Or will they all become black and continue as new races like the anubis and orcuses?
I wonder if Van introduced rollerskates and bikes in Talosheim.
ObserverBias
Neither of those first options. Why would it prevent further births of those races? There are three circles of transmigration/reincarnation in Lambda, between Rodcorte’s, Demon King Guduranis’, and Vida’s. Shifting from Demon King’s to Vida’s doesn’t change the race itself, it just makes them part of her responsibility (same with shifting from Rodcorte’s to Vida’s, or any other interchange, really).
.
The only current known reasons for race shifts like the orcuses/anubises/black goblins would be for those races to reproduce with others, or for Van’s Death-mana-infusion to become a more regular treatment among those that are expecting to give birth, for whatever reason.

Dream guider will probably be the best choise in the long run, but Dungeon Master really tickled my interest and Dark Beast User made me think if it would be possible to equip Fang and the 3 sisters like he is doing with the insects and plants through his other user-jobs.
He probably picked the right one, but i sure hope he gets the Dungeon Master in the near future…
Thank you for the chapter and the treat! (^_^)/

Tejing
MTL of the above:
Man… apparently this series is not successful in Japan because its characters don’t care about things like morality and virginity.
The main character is a virgin only because of age but nobody cares about it, they are even promiscuous according to the definition of almost all cultures …
Ghouls, due to low fertility, were like bulbous primates who are having sex all the time.
The empuses and arachnas that a house has as a lot of families with which the husbands share.
The lamias that have the same way of sharing wives …
In fact it is characteristic, where, it is not the man who has a harem but the woman and almost novelty … I had never seen this …
But this series gets on my nerves…. I’m anxious but the chapters take a long time.

Well, there is really morally wrong things and doesn’t really sit well with some readers. But if reader read first few chapters then this novel is really enjoyable and interesting, specially myths are epic. And this novel leaves unique and deep imperession that makes you wanna read it over and over again. Just other novel readers don’t understand this or just ignores series because bad summary
TruePath111
Really? I’ve seen worst JPs very similar but more popular. I think the problem here is that the story went astray. I don’t mind the evil experiments but they go to nonsensical lengths where it holds no relevance to the storyline.
Humble Bumblebee
Why do you even comment when you are wrong every time you speak.
DarthGrim
Really? I don’t get what the Japanese had been thinking. Virginity? TF! Come on dude, as a man don’t you want to see a real Harem king? Unlike the other sissy bast*rd that only had a plentiful of women that loved him which turned out he only chose one. We need a character that more like Issei from H DxD, because he fucked all of his harem. I mean… Vandalieu has power, own an empire. So… Why not!? And don’t you get tired of isekai MC that always used the same logic as our world, it’s isekai for god’s sake. It’s another world and yet people still hoping some earth logic sh*t. If that’s the case then all of the isekai story is nothing but an ordinary slice of life with the addition of magic. Sorry for the grammar, English isn’t my first language.
jacktronsit13
I was impressed that English isn’t your first language. I had no trouble interpreting exactly what you were striving for, and I completely agree.
Tejing
I think we’d all appreciate it if you posted in english. Use google translate if you need to, but if you just post in portugese most people will probably just ignore you.
MBA
I wonder where you got this info, because, from what I have personally noticed on the reader’s impressions, compliments and complains, that can be freely seen in the source’s impression section, your guess seems very wrong, the reason people have little interest in the story is mostly for the bad summary, that makes it look like a cliché Revenge story, which many are already tired of.
And then there are those that like it, but complain to the author himself that there is too little revenge in the story. For that, the manga has served as advertising and an introduction to the series, and although the story is slow, it’s increasing interest in the story in the east.
But then, there is another problem, the light novel is being published by a relatively smaller publisher (Saga Forest) compared to all the known ones, with most people not being interested in it in the first place, the manga is somewhat low budget, but is doing its job.
However, if anything: https://www.novelupdates.com/series-ranking/?rank=popular
Oh look, it’s the 2nd most popular story, and the difference towards the 1st place is decreasing.
So no need to try to explain the story for people who already read 250 chapter in a language that the vast majority can’t read.
TruePath111
It is because of the amazing world building. Terrible characters utilization tho
Eddy
I do not consider it terrible, I think the problem would be that there is a very extensive cast when the whole story basically follows the perspective of a single character, but believe me there are much worse ways to use personal ones, that of the magician of death is regular at best and with things to improve, and even so it does not commit very typical mistakes in others, such as change in the personality or principles of the characters, or not allowing to see the perspective of the villains
Vitor
I will ask just to make sure, even thought I sadly already know the answer… for you, being “terrible characters” just mean not being virgins, right?
Vitor
Really? you just made my day, I hope this someday gets adapted, each time I see a notice of a novel getting an anime I get dissapointed because it isn’t this one

“A line appeared on Gufadgarn’s nose. It stretched from her forehead to between her legs.
And with a creaking noise, Gufadgarn opened.
Aggar screamed.
Gufadgarn’s body was opening vertically as if it were a gate. From the darkness within, a countless number of enormous insect legs reached out to pull Aggar in.”

A small, quick and fun curiosity about Death Mage:
‘Vida’ means ‘Life’ in Brazilian Portuguese; then, The Google Translate translates ‘Vida, Goddess of Life and Love’ to ‘Vida, Deusa da Vida e do Amor’, which means ‘Life, Goddess of Life and Love’ in English.
P.S.: When I realized this, this was my brain’s reaction: ‘… Okay, keep reading.’
Mr.Darkness
MBA
Seriously? You think that Japanese having an enemy called “死” or English people seeing an enemy “death” is different for Brazilians having an enemy called “morte”? For them, it’s the same usual word that they use to talk about death just like we do for “morte”.
However, you seem to forget that the story is originally Japanese, so, shouldn’t it be “命, deusa da vida e do amor”, that’s right, call her Inochi at least.
Mr.Darkness
I think you misinterpreted…
In my example, english speaking people are not seeing an enemy called “death”, they are seeing an enemy called “morte”, which for some that don’t know the translation, would not know it mean “death”.
But for a brazilian, “morte” is just a generic word, but if it were “death”, it would sound cool (and they would not know what it mean too).
My nickname (Mr.Darkness) sounds very cool for brazilian portuguese speakers, but i’m sure it’s just generic for english speaking ones…
MBA
Then I shall teach you another word called “edgy”
Garotinho321

Marshall Dolmad from SC 24 could prove to be some interesting canon fodder …er, XP for Van.
That new duke Sauron’s reign appears like it won’t last long; wonder how he managed to screw that one up 😒
Lord Rin
Well the new Duke Sauron basically lost a good chunk of his land when it became a Devil Nest and many monsters that used to live on that land fled from Van’s zombies and spilled out to the surroundings where they are beginning to attack more of the duchy’s villages and towns which is also causing the Devil Nest to expand which means that the lands that the Duke promised to his supporters are now either plagued by monsters or have become part of the Devil Nest and unusable to them. So now his supporters like Dolmad are not gonna be happy that they won’t be able to get their promised rewards.
Jonathan Hurd
To make matters worse is the fact that the Undead summoning spell circles are in Vans territory and anyone who tries to pass the line winds up dead. So he has the constant waves of enemies and there is absolutely no way to stop the flow of monsters, lol. Add in they also have to worry about the Amid Empire and sort out the newly liberated lands… I’d feel bad for the idiotic Duke Sauron but he brought this all on himself.
Absolute Zer0
That guy was just self centered idiot imo. He just gone and fabricated death of people who was fighting for his goddamn land. And even went as far as silencing villagers too. If i was Van i would have gone and destroyed him with his castle.
Really great power needs great people to handle it (self reflection)
Wannabe
I wonder what the lamias were doing to be labeled insurgents. Would being a Vida fundamentalist and rejecting Alda be enough? They were characterized as a race with yandere tendencies so I could see them causing legitimate trouble.
I kinda want to make a list of the different Vida tribes Heinz has gone after post-Darcia.
Tejing
Well, according to what we’ve read, those yandere tendencies are pretty much made up. Still, there are often significant differences between the cultures of vida’s races inside and outside the boundary mountain range, so who knows.
Lord Rin
Their yandere tendencies were said to be that they were the clingy type not the Mirai Nikki type. Basically they’d get close to the other women that their love interest is with and they’d suggest to share the guy.
Anyways they were probably falsely accused so that Heinz’ group would wipe them out because some people wanted them dead for one reason or another. Actually do Alda’s worshipers even know or classify lamias as one of Vida’s races? I seem to recall that Schneider began to question his faith when he learned that lamias were people so it sounds like Alda’s religion classifies them as monsters like they do with ghouls and majin.
Jonathan Hurd
I believe the ‘peaceful’ faction of Aldas group draws the line at Vidas races with no monster blood. So titan, beastmen, and dark elves. Other than those if Heinz’s attitude is anything to go by I think they label all Lamia’s monsters along with the Majin.
I will say there is a chance the Lamias were actually worshipping an evil god, but considering how Heinzs group kills first and asks questions never, I don’t think it much mattered to them either way.
Lord Rin
Now that I think about it Alda’s Peaceful Faction are hypocrites even at where they draw the line. They approve of beastmen, dark elves and titans because they don’t have monster blood in them but they don’t approve of mer-people even though they also don’t have monster blood since they are the children of Vida and Tristan the water god who hasn’t fused with any Evil Gods. Alda’s Peaceful Faction really only approve of races that look closer to human and mer-people don’t fall under that category since they got fish lower bodies. The only reason they don’t subjugate them too much is because they live in the ocean away from most people.
Absolute Zer0
Imo they are just trying to destroy force that can threaten them in context of following will of god tho’
Chiu ChunLing
It’s a reasonable point but they’re already hypocrites for worshipping Alda while rejecting his actual doctrine, which is that all the Vida races have to be exterminated.
So they messed up on sorting out which ones do or don’t have Ranks as well as Jobs…it’s not like Vida or Alda actually care about that distinction.
Garotinho321
MBA
Why do you answer english posts with portuguese? I’m curious.
Vitor
They surely were doing horrible things such as existing and having monster blood, and then the FibeColoureVlabbers went to impart justice in the name of Alda, because that’s what good leaders of the peaceful faction should do
Kuro-san
In Death Mage, does the earth attribute have gravity as a sub-attribute? I don’t remember Densuke-sama having confirmed or denied it, so I don’t know…
Anyway, I believe so, because that makes the attribute of the land more interesting. In addition, I have seen a fair amount of work in which gravity is associated with the earth attribute, such as: ‘the beginning after the end’ or ‘I Was a Sword When I Reincarnated’.
I know it doesn’t make a lot of sense, according to science; however, we are not dealing with science, we are dealing with magic. And I don’t remember seeing anyone complaining about the attribute of the wind being able to control the lightning, even though the lightning are closer to the fire than the wind.
Anyway, what’s your opinion?
P.S.: In ‘the beginning after the end’, the attribute of gravity is the upper version of the attribute of the earth, while in ‘I Was a Sword When I Reincarnated’, it was confirmed, in chapter 338, that the earth magic has some spells that manipulate gravity.
Tejing
I think gravity would more likely fall under space attribute magic in death mage, but as far as I know, there’s been nothing stating it either way. Also, I have no idea what ‘rays’ means here. Lightning?
Kuro-san
Yes, ‘rays’ means ‘lightning’, thanks for pointing out this error; I already fixed it.
And thanks for your point of view. You based on the theory that gravity is a space-time distortion caused by the accumulation of mass in a single point, didn’t you?
Kazza
It’s not as far off from real science as you may think. Gravity is inherent to the mass of an object, so the higher density you have the stronger it’s gravitational pull is.
For reference, you yourself actually create a gravitational pull on the earth, but due to your relatively small mass and the input of other humans, the Earth doesn’t move.
So, if you have precise control over Earth (Dirt/Rocks), you could theoretically pack it into such a dense particle that it creates a strong gravitational pull on its surroundings. If you had further control, you could create a “sheet” of these densely packed particles to direct the gravity in a specific direction.
Granted, that’s still a heavy dose of anime-logic, but just pointing out that your idea isn’t entirely dumb.
But yeah, most people would place gravity into space attribute due to the existence of black holes, where gravity is so strong light – which unless I’m misremembering something had no mass but energy – cannot escape.
Kuro-san
Got it, thanks for your point of view.
By the way, I know that ‘gravity = attribute of earth’ is not an absurd idea, since I know, at least, the basis of Einstein’s theory of general relativity and Newton’s law of universal gravitation.
VEreality
Hope that I don’t put my footh in my mouth by entering this conversation, but I think that it would be more likely related to telekinesis, a non-attribut ability. I am saying this because it would be easier to create a force that would push everything toward one place than to compress earth to the point were it gains it’s own strong gravitional pull. Also, the space attribute was described as being oriented toward transportation. The best at using this attribute are Gufadgarn and Zuruwarn and they could create dungeons or travel to other worlds but none of those are even close controling gravity. The reason why nobody was able to use it until now, I suppose, could be because it still costs to much mana to be practical. Mana that Van has now. And we know that he is already capable of using telekinesis. Hmmmmm……. Chibaku Tensei, if you know what I mean 🙂
Jonathan Hurd
I agree with VEreality in that gravity manipulation for the story is probably closer to neutral magic. We have seen a bit of magic and usually it seems to involve summoning substances of the type and throwing them. Of course Death Attribute is the weird one here, but then again we haven’t met a normal caster of it either.
Vans been using Death Attribute passively all the time. While the Ninth Guidance were bestowed Death Attribute mana more as an ability than an actual magic by him.
To me if you ask could people maybe control gravity with Earth magic I would say yes. It seems like it could work. The problem I kind of see with this and the reason no one bothers with throwing Telekinesis is that it is a huge waste of time and effort. To throw telekinesis strong enough to equal a grown man’s punch takes thousands of mana. You’d be better off just training some strength and punching someone with your fist, or just throwing some rocks for a fraction of the cost.
I feel like the problem with manipulating gravity also comes from just how high most likely high ranking creatures and humans are. For the gravity to hurt/stop them you have to outclass them so severely that you can take them out with one big spell.
Jonathan Hurd
I’m not sure Titans ability has a classification of an element. Most of thr Bravers abilities don’t really match up with elements or spells, but more special skills. They then named themselves things that fit into those names to try and mimic super heros to be less scary. I think part of what made Titans ability strong was the fact that he could do things outside the range of normal earth mages.
For the dungeons gravity problem there is a reason it has normal gravity. It’s a trap to lure humans in. If humans poke their heads in and realized they can’t walk forward they’d just turn right around and exit. This was mentioned in another chapter that dungeons are set for humans so there aren’t a lot of traps for those who can wall climb or fly.
Nixpheo
I believe that it might actually be a subset of wind magic as you can pack air together in order to increase atmospheric pressure in order to mimic an increase in gravity. As the weight of the air would push you down like gravity would.
Valeth
Thinking about it there are effects that are available in several aspects of Magic. For example Healing is Life, but also appears to be in Water, and Spirit.
So perhaps Earth, Space, and arguably even Wind can manipulate gravity if the user was good enough, and understood the concept.
As when Van purified the metals removing all impurities, the reason most Earth Mages could not is they lacked proper understanding of the metals properties.
Garotinho321
Cara…

I think ultimately Van will eat Alda’s Soul and become God of Death and Retribution. Then after eating Rodcore then God of Reincarnation and Retribution. Judge of Gods and Mortals. Views all lives as equal no bias, no right, no wrong. What metters is your sin is great or not.
nightRox
If he does I hope he makes all the people close to him into gods
Jonathan Hurd
I’m kind of curious how you can have a system where there is no right or wrong, but also sin to judge, lol. To sin you had to do something wrong.
I will say I can completely picture Van taking over as God of the souls system. I think though he might be more inclined to reward and help those who suffered through life rather than to punish. Basically Van will become a God who would reward and help those who had terrible lifelike he and the Ninth Guidance did. Not like Rodidiot who just dropped those victims into a new shittier situation.
Absolute Zer0
In my opinion sin can be defined as act that causes harm to Van since he can see bigger picture and benefit of action but doesn’t really changes the fact he refuses to accept. For example Darcia’s death he knows in law of country what she did was crime but just can’t accept or how people are isolating Scyllas.

Jeez, after this whole Alcrem Duchy arc. I feel ashamed to be associated by race with these Lambda Alda-worshipping humans. 100,000 years and not even a speck of change or progress in these nations, Amid Empire and Orbaume Kingdom. Besides technology, even social ethics and culture are still in the dark ages.
I don’t wish to point fingers as much to who were the primary culprits for these problems without feelings of resentment brewing, but it really doesn’t matter at this point. Van somehow makes his exploits where everyone wins, except for the really dumb fellows who can’t even take a hint. i.e. Heinz.
Anyway with this dream guider job, I bet he would passively give his foes nightmares all night long and be like the sandman to his friends.
Makaayplays
This is mainly due to Alda being a bitch and not wanting the people to evolve. Remember how Alda banned any technology related to the summones heroes? Well now everyone assumes any new technology is the forbidden by God one, and the people are killed for being a heretic and their devices destroyed. Also I’m pretty sure Alda doesn’t want the people to get stronger, he wants to return to the time where the Gids were constantly present in people’s lives, and he was the top bitch. So in conclusion, Alda is an old asshole who hates change.
Jonathan Hurd
Alda really is mainly to blame for the loss of tech. I will say back in the original Age of God’s Alda wasn’t really in charge. It was more of a republic between all the Gods. From what Vida described in her sleep it seems like she and Alda spent most of their time bickering. Ricklent and Botin moderated and helped the group come to a consensus.
What Alda really wishes for now is a world dictated and ruled by him. The problem is he has no idea where he is leading them or what he is trying to accomplish. He blindly picked up Bellwoods original ideas and has refused to ever rethink the position. His own doctrine is filled with hypocrisy but he just keeps forging on anyways killing anyone who dissents to shut them up. Then he uses their deaths as an excuse as to why he can’t change paths. I find it funny that Alda and his group call Van insane because to me they are way more out of their minds. At least Van is willing and able to reflect and admit to his mistakes.
Garotinho321
Absolute Zer0
When i see how humans handle things in this novel it makes me hate the fact that i’m human too and i might make same decition.
Jonathan Hurd
I think an important part to keep in mind with Aldas side of the mountain is as far as they know they are basically the dominant species. They don’t get that there’s an entire empire of Vidas races on the other side of the mountain. They have no pressing outside threat. There’s nothing to unify them like the Demon King or Alda so they started trying to grab power as best they could.
It’s sad to say but I think Marshakul is probably the best ruler on the humans side we have seen thus far. He is cold blooded and ruthless, but I mean he kind of had to be to keep his seat. At least all of his decisions were always done for the good of his nation and its continuation. I will say he is still not a good person. Just that I feel like he overall had the best control on his country.

It’s particularly disappointing when you put it into the context that on earth it’s only been about 12k years since people started farming instead of hunter-gathering. 100k years at a total standstill compared to that is just… wow. Though some other things are rather unrealistic in that light, such as that the ‘Japanese’ everyone speaks is still even remotely recognizable as the same language it was back then. Real languages change waaaaaay faster than that.
Tejing
You’re missing the point there. Languages naturally evolve over time, without anyone “developing a new language”. In cultures without much literacy, it can evolve so fast that a grandparent can have significant difficulty understanding their grandchildren, but even in a higher literacy rate culture, it still becomes difficult to understand within a few centuries. After 100k years, even with long lived races like elves presumably slowing it down, it should be utterly unrecognizable.
Lord Rin
It’s all Alda’s doing probably. I mean this is the guy who has caused the world to stagnate for 100,000 years because he basically gave a divine command that no technological advances will be permitted. In that same vein he probably declared that the language spoken by Bellwood and the other heroes would remain as it’s always been.
Garotinho321
Bom.
Joseph Nguyen
Van drinks his mom’s blood too, eh? What a mother con Van is, Some girls may feel jealous of it.
The way Gufadgarn splits her body is creepy.
The guy eaten by Quinn is lucky when he’s dead, hell is waiting for the rest though.
Jonathan Hurd
Well considering who killed him i don’t think his soul will be allowed to rest just yet. Probably be repurposed for some meanial task until his soul wears itself out.
Yoki
Guys, quik question… isn’t dream demon what is usually used to name succubi/incubi in japanese fantasy works… i know its not what is used for this novel though…
Jonathan Hurd
I think you might be right. I believe other stories have described Sucubi as creatures that on prey on people in their dreams.
Obviously Death Mage has ones that do the absorption directly but it is just funny to think the Demon Dream path leads people to becoming Sucubi, lol.
VEreality
Succubi and Incubi do prey on people in their sleep, however they represent desire. This desire is related most of the time with lust but there are some manga and animes that say they are okay with greed and envy and any other kind of sin just as well. They are masters of temptation in general. Van would need some kind of job that would allow him to bring the worst out of his enemy before he could be considered an incubus. Maybe a better control over their dreams so he could twist them freely.
Lord Rin
Well succubus and incubus already exist as specific types of majin.
Tejing
Just a note, Yoshi changed the order of the components of the guidance skill (probably to make it flow better in english). In the raw, the new kanji 夢 (dream) comes after 創 (creation) instead of between 冥 (dark) and 魔 (demon), so the connection you’re pointing out is almost certainly not meaningful.
Vitor
…Oh god, Van’s hitting puberty or what?? XD
Diggydawg
Van’s stats will eventually be a chapter on its own.
Tenderizer
I wish the author would simplify the stats somewhat, like combining “Automatic Mana Recovery” and “Increased Mana Recovery Rate” into a single skill. Kumo Desu, Nani ka did this.
Luiz300
there are really big differences between these two as was explained in earlier chapters automatic mana recovery makes van recover a % of his mana at all times while increased mana recovery rate decreases the time needed to recover mana while resting(sleeping)
Chiu ChunLing
We’ve seen that happen for a lot of items already, I’m sure Van will eventually gain a skill of “Unlimited Mana” or whatever that will subsume both those skills and maybe some others like Mana Enlargement.
Shiro ended up [spoiler title=””] losing all her system-based skills and ascending to administrator status [/spoiler] , after all. I’m sure Van will eventually achieve basically the same thing, since the other gods seem to be above the skill system.
Chiu ChunLing
It would have been nice if those curses would have at least weakened a little even if they weren’t removed entirely.
Like:
existingcommonplace jobsI mean, it wouldn’t change much, it would just mean that he got a little bit of bonus XP and maybe had a few more rare but not unprecedented jobs available. But just because Rotcortex said it was futile for Van to have removed part of the curse, I want him to be wrong.
Nox
Thanks for the chapter.
After Van is getting so strong it’s now time for the others to receive a level up and probably soon gods will follow as Van becomes the ultimate guider.
Jonathan Hurd
Divine Guider. Greatest job ever!
Valeth
Isn’t that sorta what Heinz is… well he is the Holy Guider. Which I believe is similar to Belwood, who did guide gods even, so….
Jonathan Hurd
Divine Guider as I see it is more someone who leads the Divine. You could also look at it literally and it could be someone who is Divine and guides others. Holy guider is more along the lines of someone who leads others down the righteous path.
It was stated a while ago Vans Demon Guider is basically an outlier that leads people to neither good nor bad. Dark Guider is more leading those close to death or already dead. So Vans guidance has been outside of Evil and Good.
I think there probably exists a Evil Guider job somewhere. Someone who leads others towards Evil, but I think Van probably won’t be able to get it. His path is to weird and his path has never been accepted or embraced as Evil himself. He has been labeled Evil by Alda, but Van is not doing the things he is doing to be evil so I think there’s no chance for him to get that job.
Absolute Zer0
To Van there is no Good or Evil. What matters to him is result. If he/she is happy with result that’s all there to it.
ExplodingPenguinDood
Awesome. I wonder how would Van’s new job will work, plus that with the bestower job he can probably hand out familiar spirits left and right. You get a tiny Van, you get a tiny Van everyone gets a tiny Van.
Thank you Yoshi as always. I hope everybody is safe. Always wash your hands folks
Jonathan Hurd
“Everyone look underneath your seats… There’s your very own mini Van there!”
TheTrueDeathGod
He will likely be able to connect to origin now. He will start guiding those whos dreams he appeared in before.

Nightwing’s not a cool name?
*Dick Grayson will remember that.*

Thanks for the chapter, man Van stats are always long……
MintyMints
You say that now but imagine what Van’s stats at the end of his life would be like……

Vilebird
Thanks for the chapter.
no1
Thanks for the chapter Yoshi and so quick. Well Aggar is finally dealt with and Vandalieu has done another job change. Can’t wait to see what happens next in the following chapters next month
Phantom Knight
Same for me!!!!! I also can’t wait to see how his new [Dream Guider] job will synergize with and affect his [Abyss] skill. After all, he already causes a massive guidance through his dream after each time he takes a guidance job.
With his new job, the power of his dreams may take on a whole new level or gain some interesting capabilities. I can’t say that Vandalieu-sama will be able to consciously control them or initiate them now. However, along with the effects from [Mutation Induction] skill, he might really cause a lot more evolutions or mutations than ever before.
Lol. Even the Goddess of Slumber, Mil, might notice the power of Van-sama’s guidance if it it too power. This is going to be interesting to say the least. Lol
Mossy Stone
Eagerly awaiting the results of the new job on Origin …especially poor Mari.
Aggar who 🤔???
Entropy
Thanks for the chapter. Aggar and his surviving friends are going to wish that they had been killed. I find it funny that Aggar started begging after ignoring everyone’s warning, everybody told him not to kick a hornet’s nest, but he still had to. I wonder if the duke is going to try to control Vand. I doubt it, he seems smarter than the other dukes that have been shown off thus far, but I do wonder how he will react to his sister being alive and probably becoming a minotaur beast man. Another guide job, I think the next job Vand selects will be dark king mage or hollow king mage. I would like to see him select Destruction Guider, Demon King, Chaos Guider, Demon Ruler, Creator, Demiurge, Pale Rider, Tartarus, God Destroyer, Qliphoth, and Dark Beast User down the road. The proper named jobs really interest me and I want to see how the guides will be added to his growing enticement.
Haraken
Aggar is the embodiment of the “too stupid to live” trope.
In this case he might not be dead (yet), but won’t be living either.
Valeth
I get the feeling being pulled into a realm with Gufadgarn true form may be a fate worse than death for most mortals. Looking upon Dark Gods is not suppose to be healthy for most mortals.
Garotinho321
Agar está vivo… para a infelicidade dele.
Libio
I don’t think that he will take mage job. I can’t see reason why to take it. I think he SHOULD take guide job simply because guide is most effective in long-term way. I want him to take pale rider, not only because it is basically Death (there are many Death job: Shinigami, Grim reaper, Thanatos, Anubis or Osiris…), but because it is manifestation of Death at APOCALYPSE. Tartarus is interesting too, it isn’t just place, it is god-like existence like Gaia, Nix and Uranos. God of eternal darkens and endless pit. Father of Gigants, race created to kill gods. Well, Creator, Demiurge and Qliphoth smell like new skills (or interesting evolution, like Alchemy). I just like Wild spirit, Fallen warrior, vengeful berserk and eclipse cursecaster…
Entropy
I don’t think he will select a guider or the creator jobs next since he has chosen two enhancer jobs the last two times in the forms of bestower and dream guide. I don’t know what job he picked before them, but I do suspect his next job will be geared towards personal combat so either the mage jobs, fighter jobs, or the demon king job. I have noticed that when times are relatively peaceful, Vand picks support or enhancer jobs while a fight is coming up or has gone by he goes with personal fighting jobs. This is not always true, so looking forward to the next job. I am most interested in Demiurge, Pale Rider, Tartarus, and Qliphoth. I know it is silly but I suspect that Vand might get a mount ability if he chooses pale rider. I know it is another name for death, but it would go with the rider part of the job and at the time of the apocalypse, death is said to being riding on a pale horse. I am betting Tartarus is dungeon based while Demiurge is demon taming related or perhaps using demon magic. Qliphoth I suspect has to do with spirit fighting or Vand’s use of his soul. Creator might just be a boost in Vand’s ability to create new races. I do think that the three new jobs are pretty forgettable, although Vand has been getting amazing new jobs every few chapters, so I suppose that makes sense.
Sebas Tian
Creator is most likely just an evolution of his golem creation ability, rather than anything to do with creating new races as that’s the point of the bestower job already.
Valeth
As for jobs in the future Pale Rider seams likely. Not sure what Tartarus will be or how it will effect his growth or skills.
In lore Demiurge has to do with the temptations of the flesh, as he gave people flesh so he could temp them. Not sure how that would play out, but it could be cool. Qliphoth has to do with the Tree of Death, which grows in reverse from the Tree of Life as their roots are interconnected. At least in its simplistic interpretation, so rather fitting as Van works with the Goddess of Life while becoming eventually a God of Death.
Libio
I think that more than world, he will get his own divine realm. He already has something like it in dreams, so it would be just evolution of it. He could get this power from more jobs… BUT I don’t think that creating his own after life is bad idea. Place where souls will be punished, rewarded, cleaned, destroyed and make new before reincarnation is good thing. This way circle of reincarnation will be easier to manage.
Jonathan Hurd
I feel like it’s fine if he keeps helping Vidas system. No need to recreate the wheel when you have a perfectly good one run by a friend. What I do feel he could add is basically his own purgatory. A place to punish those as was mentioned. After paying for their crimes they could then be released back into the system. If their crimes are to heavy then they could be destroyed.
TheTrueDeathGod
Tartarus may level his abyss skill to max or even evolve it. From what I have noted any skill with a level can be made superior. There are some skills like night vision and dark vision that have superior ranks without levels but those are rare.
Jonathan Hurd
I think chances of Pale Rider being chosen have gone up with the introduction of Fang and how big he is. I think Van still reads it as rider so he will take it to get the riding skill. I think it might honestly give Van riding skill… and so much more, lol.
I agree the next job after this will probably be combat related as Hajime and Murakami get closer. I don’t think Vans going to bother with the simple upgraded magic jobs. He has more mana and intelligence than he knows what to do with, which would be one of the big reasons to take it.
I think he takes one of the Dangerous sounding jobs not including Demon King. I feel he takes Demon King after Alda completely pisses him off. Basically a situation where Van is fed up with being labeled the Demon King so he embraces it.
The job I guess he might take for offense would be Eclipse Cursecaster. That one sounds like it could give him new things to throw at Alda and his bunch. Considering he displayed most of his combat abilities in the fight against Heinz I think he needs a new variety of spells. He’s not likely to catch up to Heinzs group in Martial arts anytime soon, since they’ve been at that way longer than Van. So might as well stick to his strengths and give himself something else to throw mana into.
I will say though I feel like Van is definitely going to take one of the two Magic Stave craftsmen jobs soon. Partly because at the rate Kananko is going converting people he’s going to have to crank those staves out. Another reason he would take one of the jobs is so that Van can put even more power and defense into them. To help protect Mom and the others.
Absolute Zer0
Well, i think Eclipse Cursemancer will grant skill that allows ‘CURSE THE SOUL’. Something similar how Idiodcore cursed Van.
Zurric
I think from the text aggar is basically dead.
“… Luciliano’s order was for three more ‘new test subjects.’ You captured two, Kühl… I wonder if there’s going to be a problem with that broken jaw?” asked Quinn, looking at the third man.
2 captured by kuhl, and one knocked out by eisen.
and if he’s not dead yet, he’s almost certainly completely insane since he probably saw Gufadgarn’s true form
Jonathan Hurd
You’re probably right that Aggars dead. Though knowing Gufadgarn I think she’ll have saved his soul for Vans future use/punishment.
V4NQU1SH

Even zombies have standards.

I wonder how long can his guider skills can be
Sebas Tian
As long as is needed
Tejing
That will probably happen as a side effect of awakening into a superior skill once it hits level 10.
Jonathan Hurd
The problem with merging the Guidance is that each covers a unique aspect and it’s own path. It’s kind of hard to trim them down when they’re all so unique.
TheTrueDeathGod
Vandalieu Guidance DONE! As short as possible and still unique and descriptive.
Lord Rin
Let’s wait until the name of the guider job gets as long as a paragraph beforehand.
reisben55
Wow, so fast.
Thanks for the translations.
But, there is so many jobs to choose and too little time.
Damn Rodcorte. You always do things half-assed.
Renrobt
Let’s be fair here, with Van being a Dhampir with mother: Goddess, he probably is immortal at least concerning lifespan.
So while he can’t exactly take all three jobs when they would be convenient he has all the time in the world (unless he somehow even outlives the gods somehow and have to start managing the world itself)
Entropy
Valid point. A better question is how will Vand die if he even can die. I suspect nothing short of a world destroying event would be sufficient to possibly kill him and i still give Vand an 80 percent chance of surviving. Can Vand use that youth restoring ability on himself or teach it to someone and have them use it on him? I know it uses a lot of mana but I don’t think his ghouls have much to worry about with dying of old age.
Sebas Tian
When he became a Dhampir (Mother: Goddess) he didn’t lose his lifespan, his lifespan just stayed the same as it always was. Which is 3 to 5 times what the non vampire parent’s lifespan is. His mother as a goddess is in possession of an infinite lifespan so multiple that 3 to 5 times and you get, still infinite.
Renrobt
He likely never would need to use youth transformation on himself but the question still implies a greater question: can he use abilities he developed to help others be used on himself?
My though on it is probably yes, since the worst he needs to do is create a temporary clone with spirit form and materialization, and have that clone do it’s magic on himself.
As long as it’s not something directly related to one’s soul he could use this, and even if related to souls probably yes.
Jonathan Hurd
Thank you Yoshi and Crew. Getting these updates so fast is definitely a nice surprise and helps put my mind a bit more at ease.
For the content… wow. I did not predict the little kid being Khuul. Do gotta say I love how they set the trap so the kids never needed to know. It also made sure that Aggar and his crew would be caught if they crossed the line and entered the orphanage.
I will accept I was wrong in thinking Duke Alcrem won’t find out about Juliana. This does put things in an interesting state though. She will be fine she’s in Vans capable hands and after she reincarnates I think he’ll bury her original body out of respect. The ball is in the Dukes court. If he tries to threaten Van things will go very badly for him.
It seems like Duke Alcrem is an Alda worshipper so that is already going to make the negotiations harder for him. I think his worst move is to start a fight with Van. That would end terribly. Best case scenario is Van picks up everyone who follows him and moves them to Taloshiem. Worse case is Van takes over some land, makes it a devils nest and puts in the Undead summoning circles Sauron Duchy is enjoying.
For Vans New Job I gotta say I can’t wait to see what happens after he goes to sleep. Things are going to get weird, hehe. I’m thinking he pays a visit to Simon, Juliana, and Natania to start, but there could be a quick little visit to Origin in there as well. What could also happen is Van could start touching the dreams of those he hasn’t directly touched yet as well. Basically those of Vidas races in other places around Orbaume Kingdom and the Amid Empire. I wonder if he might be able to touch some of the sealed fragments of the Demon King too. That could be interesting.
I think the best part could be if Van ends up accidentally entering Mills realm. That could be funny to watch. I don’t think he’d be in a fighting state, but that would certainly freak Aldas group out.
Arahell
Oh damn, about guiding dream of those in origin, you sir give me some nice imagination material, it would be really awesome if van can connect to banda through dream and of course we all need more meh-kun! >:3
VEreality
Let us pray for the return of Adventure time with Meh-kun and Banda >:3
God we need some of that good interaction between a baby and an interdimensional demon looking familiar. Yeahh!
Kazza
*Shakes fist*
Damn you, I didn’t even think about Origin, but now that you put that in my mind I’m going to be so disappointed if that’s not what happens.
Jonathan Hurd
I’m with you all wishing for an update from our favorite buddy duo Banda and Meh Kun, heh. I don’t think Van will be able to stay too long, but he might be able to share some of his newly gained abilities with Banda and exchange some info. Hopefully Banda has been doing his homework and trying to figure out the recipe for Cola.
I would really enjoy Van visiting Marie again too and maybe giving her another helpful nudge towards regaining her self awareness.
Other than those two I am going to enjoy what happens in Mills Divine Realm where Heinz is currently at. We might get an interesting round two of conversation there.
ExplodingPenguinDood
What a cool idea, Van’s going to be in everyone’s dream ala white falcon Griffith from Berserk
Lord Rin
Wow so quick. I just randomly decided to check the site and there was a new chapter.
Welp RIP in pepperonis Aggar and co. you won’t be missed. So they are gonna be Luciliano’s new guinea pigs. I wonder what new experiments will Luciliano have in store for them? They are hopefully something super painful. Anyways since Earl Morksi had already authorized his spies to kill Aggar and his group if need be, they probably won’t even try to investigate their disappearances.
I get the feeling that Bachem and Berard don’t really like Duke Alcrem that much. They are only giving him the bare minimum information on Van that the Duke could have easily gotten himself from his spies in a single day. Berard specifically isn’t telling him shit about Juliana being in Van’s care. Meanwhile Earl Morksi only ever gave him information from when he first encountered Van and hasn’t even chosen to send him updated information and revised opinions of Van. It really seems like all three are trying to protect Van by giving Duke Alcrem information that anybody can find out or outdated information. Couple all of that with the Duke’s internal thoughts where he is only thinking about how Juliana could have been used by others against him and how he wonders if Van could also be used in the same manner, he strikes me as a very selfish man more interested in staying in power. He doesn’t even express any genuine remorse for sending Randolf to finish her off. Only lamenting that he couldn’t have used her for his own goals. The only good thing I can say is that he doesn’t seem to be the worst noble in the Orbaume Kingdom. Marshal Dolmad who we met before is worse as Duke Alcrem has verified and now there’s some Prime Minister Tercatanis who is some conservative Alda worshiper. I don’t even know how he’s a prime minister of the ostensibly Vida-worshiping Orbaume Kingdom if he’s a conservative Alda worshiper. Anyways I’m sure Van will meet them both eventually and kill them.
Meanwhile it’s nice to know that Van has been keeping surveillance on everybody. I just assumed that he wouldn’t have time for that because he has to do so many other things like operate his food cart, hunt for meat to supply his cart, help Simon and Natania get the Spirit Form skill and learn to use their metal limbs, donate to the orphanage while also playing with the children and casting magic on the animals they catch so that they don’t spread illness to the kids and keeping an eye on Aggar. All of that made me think he wouldn’t be able to spare putting surveillance on people like Bachem since he doesn’t interact with him too often. But luckily since he has been keeping an eye on him now Van knows probably that Duke Alcrem has found out about Juliana’s survival and can now make preparations in case the Duke tries anything.
Anyways so just as Van said, he has taken the Dream Guider job so he can guide people better in their dreams. I wonder if this will have an effect on the people he’s guiding in Origin like the Druid and the Metamorph? Anyways maybe he should next get the Spirit Therapist job once he maxes Dream Guider. It might be helpful for Simon and Natania’s training and might help any damaged spirits especially if they’re gonna pseudo-reincarnate since it might make their memories and personalities more stable. If it can combine with the Dream Guider job and the Mental Encroachment Skill then Van might be able to do more effective mental therapy and care for people. Also I see Van has now gotten a new Mutation Induction skill. He probably got it from all the people he mutated into new races after becoming a Bestower. i guess he’ll be able to create new races easier now. Maybe he’ll be able to have finer control over pseudo-reincarnations now by activating specific mutations in the fetuses.
On a completely different note, it’s funny that Kuhl has the title of Fake Vandalieu. His rivalry with Legion is paying off since now he’s a mimic slime.
Tejing
A few notes:
– The duke did think “forgive me, Juliana”, which, while perhaps not remorse, at least seems like a tiny bit of genuine guilt.
– I’m not sure Van knows the duke learned about Juliana. He’s watching over Bachem, not the duke, and the duke learned this after Bachem left. Of course, he may have peeled off a spirit or something to keep watching the duke. That would certainly not be surprising.
– The Mutation Induction skill was gained the moment he chose the Bestower job. It seems to be the principle skill of the job so it came with it. It’s what allowed the mutations he’s already done, so it isn’t a boost compared to what we’ve already seen.
Lord Rin
– Hmm you may be right but to me it just didn’t sound sincere. Especially since he spent a good portion of his internal thoughts mentioning all the problems she caused him by just existing and then listing all the ways she could be used politically and then he laments that she is dead now when he could use her to his advantage in dealing with Van.
– I figured that that’s probably the case. That now that the spirits observing Bachem have been made aware that a duke is asking around about Van, that they will leave a spirit behind to continue observing Duke Alcrem and that that’s how they would find out about how he knows that Juliana is alive and being taken care of by Van. Or maybe the spirits already around Duke Alcrem could inform the ones with Bachem about it. The duke is a crap spiritualist so he probably doesn’t even sense the spirits around him and only barely noticed the ones around Bachem because they’re new.
– I just figured that Mutation Induction was new since it says new next to it and I don’t remember if Van’s stats were shown before when he became a Bestower.
Sebas Tian
The point was about his enemies trying to take advantage of her, there’s no mention of himself using her except in regards to potentially asking her to help be a mediator between himself and Van. All the other political stuff was about how other people would take advantage of her lack of political knowledge. He feels sorry and guilty about how he couldn’t do more for her and asked Randolf to kill her so that she wouldn’t be forced to deal with people trying to use her as a tool and then throw her away.
Chiu ChunLing
Leaving aside the moral issues, it was still a stupid move. Like Juliana and the Minotaur King’s horde both mysteriously disappearing in the same time and place wouldn’t lead anyone with a brain to realize that Randolf was involved, and Duke Alkrem is trying to cover something up.
Dolmad now has plenty of evidence to back a rumor that Tackard had his half-sister secretly murdered to cover up that he let her be raped by Minotaurs.
Exactly how is that an improvement over the worst Dolmad could have said about him if he hadn’t ordered Randolf to finish her off?
Rilarion
The mentioned Prime Minister might not be a conservative Alda worshipper. It’s more likely that he has more political concerns about the new popularity of Vida religion. Whether its in fantasy or reality, one of the worst things for a leader is the influence of multiple religions in their country.
Entropy
Although the duke is sleazy, I do think given the choices, he probably considered it a kindness to kill his sister. Sounds like the duke’s rivals were going to use her as a political tool to cause discord in the land, get rid of the duke, and then kill her after they were done using her. Makes me think that his rivals would re-victimize a survivor for their own political benefit. Still I do think if the duke really cared about his sister, he could have had her treated in secret and declared her dead until she recovered. I suspect that the prime minister being an Alda supporter has more to do with the fact that kingdom being divided in half with a few of the Vida supporters being similar to those brothers from the scylla duchy. They say that they want equality, but they really want Heinz’s form of equality. It could be as simple as the prime minister tells people what he thinks that they want to hear.
Entropy
Yeah, I suppose wondering about what could have been is pointless since his sister would have ended up dead in most circumstances. I do wonder how the duke will react knowing that his sister is still alive and with Vand. The problem with reincarnation is that the duke might presume that his sister is still alive somewhere unless he gets the original body. Until the reincarnation takes place, he might do something foolish like picking a fight with Vand. I wonder who or what was spying on him or if it was his imagination.
Lord Rin
The spirits Van ordered to observe Bachem are what Duke Alcrem sensed.
sbstratos79
Tarea is going to be so sad when she realizes that Juliana is not a true noble lady like she had thought. Thanks for the chapter. 😀
Chiu ChunLing
Well, not officially, anyway. But she already knew she wasn’t officially a noble anymore.
And “too typically ignoble to personally lead a knight order” probably wasn’t what Tarea had in mind either.
OTAKU247
A thought just occurred to me…
What if Vandalieu, while changing his job, used his skills to simultaneously think and choose each job at the same time? would he possibly be able to cheat the system and acquire them all at once? After all, all it takes to choose a job is just to think about it right? what do you guys think?
Jonathan Hurd
It’s an interesting idea to try and cheat the system, but I feel like not even Van is insane enough to try and make it work, lol. The system itself is being watched over by the God of Jobs and errors have been occurring but someone holding two jobs at once would probably be to big an error.
There are a bunch of bad cases that could happen if this goes wrong as well. The lightest would probably be you just get one job and it’s not the one you wanted. Worse could be you don’t get the stat increases or skills from either jobs. Worst could be hurting your soul. Since jobs are basically trying to upgrade the soul and imprint skills on it…
Still fun idea to think about though I don’t think that is something the author plans to throw in.
Chiu ChunLing
It’s more likely that eventually he’ll have so many ridiculous ways of getting XP (I mean, he just picked a job that probably lets him level up in his sleep based on how many people he’s guiding) that he’ll actually gain jobs faster than he unlocks new ones.
Or he’ll just ascend to godhood and be completely outside the job system, just defined by his authority over Death element, Null element, and probably the Afterlife (Heaven, Hell, and Reincarnation).
Apokryphos
And now i only see Gufadgarn as a dark god loli version of the Adoring fan….

Yay, another status, and wow, Enhanced Vitality is level 10 already? Guess he kept on drinking Darcia’s blood. We haven’t seen a skill go up that fast since Mental Corruption. Also, he passed 8 billion mana! Automatic Mana Recovery, Strengthen Subordinates, and Alchemy have all been stuck at 10 for a while… I hope they awaken or fuse soon. I’m looking forward to what cool things the Dream Guider job gives Van, though they will probably be subtle.
The duke gained a (very very tiny) bit of decency in my mind. At least he feels a bit guilty. And I’m glad Bachem seems to indeed be the decent guy he appeared to be at first.
I love that Kuhl can now mimic people, I guess his sense of rivalry with Legion paid off, as that should make for fun in the future. Also, learning how Gufadagarn’s new body works is cool. It’s very fitting for the evil god of labyrinths.
Jonathan Hurd
This was definitely a great chapter, hehe.
I think Alchemy will only evolve after Van maxs cooking. I think it will be those two and probably his Golem Creation skill together that forms something new. Add in maybe Van getting the Creator job.
For Strengthen Subordinates I think Van will need to max his Guidance and then they combine. I do think the only way for Van to max Guidance though is to continue getting Guider Jobs. That or he manages to guide the entirety of Origin. That could level the skill up enough to max Guidance.
I’m honestly a bit torn on my opinion of the Duke. I understand the decision better now and the choice makes sense. The problem still stands that he did throw Juliana away and did so a bit to eagerly for my liking. It is true though that her existence has been a problem politically from the start. So I can somewhat sympathize on how he would want to finally be done with it, but he still threw away his half sister who was fighting as a knight for him and his Duchy. I need to wait and see his future actions to completely make up my mind on him.
I will just say I am super looking forward to the Duke meeting Van in person since the Duke could somewhat see spirits. He is in for the shock of his life, lol.
Lord Rin
That might be a bad thing. Since he’s apparently an Alda worshiper, if he sees all those spirits around Van then he might automatically think he’s evil.
Tejing
I’ve been thinking the same thing about the Strengthen Subordinates skill, and about Alchemy’s connection to Golem Creation, though I hadn’t thought of Alchemy as being connected to Cooking, since I think of it primarily as a “Magic Engineering” style skill in this story, rather than a “Potion Making” style skill.
About the duke… yeah. What he did is still just as wrong as it was before, but I sympathize a bit more and I’m a bit less ready to totally give up on him (though I’m still not very hopeful). I’m also totally looking forward to how he reacts to the storm of spirits around Van; it’ll probably be hilarous.
Tejing
I agree, it actually contains both aspects, but for some reason the magic engineering aspect just stands out more in my perception, keeping me from thinking about the other bit.
Do keep in mind that Van’s creation oriented skills got fused into Golem Creation, so it includes engineering-type aspects as well. Also, I’m only saying “related” in the sense that it’s plausible they might fuse at some point, not that they currently influence each other.

I feel like the Duke should have said something more politically astute like, “Unfortunately, Juliana herself must never return, but I’d like you to retrieve all the proofs of her identity. Please use your best judgement as an adventurer how to deal with the rest.”
But let’s face it, that means exactly the same thing, given Randolph’s character. Just as he disobeyed the Duke for the sake of Natania’s plea for justice on the Flame Blades, he still would have regarded killing Juliana as the most merciful solution if the Duke made it clear he wouldn’t take her in.
Heck, the “it’s fine for her to live as long as nobody can identify her” tack might have resulted in Randolf deciding to mess up her face or something. Not that it would make a big difference…but it still wouldn’t have been better.

When did Van get [Enhanced Attribute Values: Reigning]? Just looked back through old chapters and I couldn’t find the “announcement”. Is this just something he picked up or did I miss it?
Tejing
Chapter 209, but it was translated as “Strengthened Attribute Values: Ruling” there. Basically it happened upon reassembly of his soul.
Edit: Sebas fixed chapter 209’s translation to be consistent with this one.
X07Zero
Thank for the chapter ^^
Ugh, imagine an elf girl open vertical and then spider’s legs come out to catch people……ugh =_=;
VEreality
If you want a better image of the ‘open vertical’ you can search Beelzebub the anime Alaindelon or Angelica. They have this ability and the moment Gufadgarn did it I had an instant flashback of those two weirdoes.
Muglas
And then she drags you off to her dungeon.
VEreality
:3 *wink wink*
Lord Rin
It’s not a sex dungeon. Unless Van wants it to be…
PrinceHaten
I was slow but good job and nice chapter

It is good to see that those guys were going to get it even without Van trying to protect them. Those kids are going to be the next generation of tamers after all. They need protection. The way those guys ended up meeting their doom however made me remember the workers arc from Overlord S3. I like it.
Thanks Yoshi-sama! Both for the chapter and your concern!
Remember guys, to show that you care you only have to stay home as much as possible and avoid crowds. This virus can spread easily but it’s only dangerous to those that are already afflicted with other disease or elderly. We can do this! We have the power of Van and Anime by our side!!!!
Entropy
I was just reminded of that one worker caught by the intelligent gathering torturer, Neuronist Painkill. I don’t envy those guards. I am betting they wished to have been killed rather than experimented on. I wonder what experiments will take place on them.
VEreality
I am truly thankful to you *sarcasm* for reminding me of that……demon. It was such a perfect image to have in mind after eating pasta ;(
Kuro-san
So quickly? Good job, Yoshi! Thanks for the chapter!
