After being rescued by Vandalieu and Simon, Natania was in Vandalieu’s house.
Darcia was whispering something to Juliana at her bedside, and Vandalieu was touching her expanded, pregnant abdomen and casting some kind of magic. Two strange maid sisters in armor were also present.
“I’ve finished examining and treating Juliana. How are the Demon Eyes doing, Mom?” Vandalieu asked.
“I’m sorry, I couldn’t regenerate their limbs with the Demon Eyes of Regeneration after all. If there were at least bones or fragments of their flesh left… But it’s alright. I know you’ll do anything to make things better, Vandalieu,” said Darcia.
“We’ll take care of tomorrow’s preparations, Bocchan,” said Rita.
“The main thing to do is just cut the meat and put the skewers through them, after all,” said Saria. “We’ve already finished preparing to distribute the Gobu-gobu and Kobold meat to our chain stores.”
There was also a person called Tarea. She was a Ghoul woman, even though Ghouls were considered to be an advanced race of Zombies. She had been brought here by space-attribute magic cast by an Elf girl named Gufadgarn, who had been here until just a short while ago.
“Now then, while you tell me the details, I’ll be taking measurements… or rather, feeling your muscle structure,” Tarea said.
The house was full of surprises; Natania was in what could only be described as a very mysterious environment. But she felt no fear or uneasiness; she felt a strange sense of comfort from Darcia, and most of all, from Vandalieu. At the same time, she swallowed her saliva nervously as she realized that there was no turning back for her.
“Y-yes, please do,” she said to Tarea.
Going back to when Natania and the others were entering the city of Morksi…
It was possible that Duke Alcrem’s subordinates were present even here, in order to investigate whether Juliana was really dead.
That was what Natania had secretly been worried about, but they were able to pass through the gate without the guards trying to look into their backgrounds.
The guards were surprised by the fact that Fang had become a Hellhound by increasing his Rank, but they quickly realized that there were more important things to worry about when they saw Natania and Juliana’s conditions. Naturally, they had asked for an explanation as to why their limbs had been severed, but that didn’t take much time.
“Minotaurs?! … We’ll hear an explanation from the Adventurers’ Guild later, so hurry on through. I’m sorry, but try not to let people see them,” said one of the guards.
Minotaurs were monsters that were Rank 5 at minimum. They were usually found in Dungeons and Devil’s Nests; it would be a big deal if victims had fallen prey to them outside such areas.
If there were Minotaurs that had formed a horde, they would pose a threat to even a city as large as Morksi. Thus, the guards didn’t even ask Natania and Juliana’s names. With cloths covering them so as to not cause concern among the city’s people, they were carried to the Adventurers’ Guild as ordinary, injured people.
It was possible that things proceeded so smoothly because Maroru, Urumi and Suruga’s Rank increases hadn’t been noticed as their fur was in an ordinary state, and because Aggar and his thugs weren’t around.
At the Adventurers’ Guild, they were able to explain the situation not at the reception desk, but to the Guild Master Berard in a meeting room on the second floor.
“In summary… you were captured by a horde of Minotaurs, but they were wiped out by an adventurer named Ralph, and you were saved?” Berard said, his tense face relaxing as he learned that the Minotaur horde had already been destroyed.
It was only natural for Berard to be more concerned about the threat of a Minotaur horde than Natania and Juliana’s identities, as he was in charge of this city’s Adventurers’ Guild.
“Do you not know anything else about this adventurer named Ralph? Maybe his adventurer class at the Guild, or where he is usually based?” asked Berard. “If he’s skilled enough to wipe out a horde of Minotaurs on his own, I should at least know his name.”
There were many hero candidates with divine protections from gods who had appeared several years ago, but there weren’t too many of them if one were only looking around the vicinity of the city of Morksi. In fact, Berard had the feeling that their activities had recently been getting more and more distant from the city.
Of course, it would be a good thing if it meant that there were no threats around the city that required the activities of hero candidates with the divine protections of gods to deal with, but… would a Minotaur horde not be considered a threat to such hero candidates? Berard couldn’t help but ask himself this.
“I don’t know; he didn’t tell me anything in detail. He was a human man, and I think he was in his thirties,” said Natania, though she was actually nervous as she was concealing the fact that it was not merely a horde of Minotaurs, but one led by a Minotaur King.
She was entirely unconfident that she would be able to fool Berard, who was probably a veteran adventurer himself.
“I didn’t see any particularly identifying characteristics, either. But from the way he spoke, I think he was quite the skilled fellow,” said Simon.
Berard’s attention was focused not on Natania, but on his own thoughts.
“Hmm… A lightly-equipped spiritual magic user named Ralph… huh,” he muttered.
He had begun to suspect that the true identity of the mysterious adventurer named Ralph was Randolf ‘the True.’
The name ‘Ralph’ was a likely false name, as a shortened form of ‘Randolf.’ He was a human according to Natania, but it was simple to conceal the fact that one was an Elf with a disguising Magic Item.
And if Berard were to try to think of someone who would accomplish something as great as destroying a Minotaur horde on his own and then keep quiet about it… he could only think of one person.
Still, even if that is the truth, there’s no point in investigating it. I’m sure the Guild Master of the Alcrem Duchy headquarters would know something about it, but even if I were to ask him, he’d just tell me to forget about this incident, Berard thought. And if Randolf has done some work, it’s likely that a duke or marquis is involved… Come to think of it, that girl’s name is apparently Julia, but… I get the feeling that the duke’s younger sister was a knight by the name of Juliana.
Berard’s brain processed all of this very quickly, but he then decided to not pay the matter any more thought.
He was no nobleman; he was the Guild Master in charge of Morksi’s branch of the Adventurers’ Guild. Nothing more, nothing less. He discarded his curiosity that might even kill a tiger, never mind a cat, and decided to focus on his work.
“Well, no matter how capable this Ralph person is, it’s possible that a few Minotaurs escaped. We need to report this to the lord of the region and have adventurers be on the alert,” Berard said. “Thank you for the important information.”
“Yeah, I’m glad I could help,” said Natania. “And about the people who used me as bait –”
“The party called the ‘Flame Blades.’ Rest assured. I will certainly investigate them and deal with them appropriately.”
Berard knew nothing of the Flame Blades, which was likely just another D-class adventurer party among many. The only thing he thought when he heard the party’s name was that they had probably been inspired by the famous Five-colored Blades, who weren’t in the city of Morksi.
He remembered being troubled by a trend of adventurer parties’ names ending with ‘Blades’ several years back.
But he thought that if what Natania claimed they had done was true, they were fiends who didn’t deserve to name themselves after the Five-colored Blades.
If they had merely abandoned a companion who had already been captured by a Minotaur horde, then they couldn’t be blamed. A D-class adventurer party might barely be able to take down a single Rank 5 monster; they would be helpless if multiple of them appeared at once. It would be nothing short of reckless to try and save their companion in such a situation.
But to deliberately attack the leg of a female adventurer companion to use her as bait, even if she hadn’t been with them for very long, was too much. Though it was true that perhaps there would have been more victims if they had continued to all try and escape, it was too evil an act to write it off as a necessity.
“Adventurers aren’t tools. They provide services that are based upon trust. It’s because they obey the rules that we allow them to walk around cities while armed and merchants are able to request their protection. We’ll teach these bastards that, though it’ll take a few hours to contact the Guild in the city you were active in and investigate whether there is a party called the Flame Blades,” said Berard. “But executing them or making them criminal slaves isn’t possible. You’ll have to make do with penalties to their promotions and them paying reparations.”
“… I know that,” said Natania with a slightly angry nod.
“Why?” Vandalieu asked, who had been whispering something into Juliana’s ears the whole time.
He and Simon, who was looking uncomfortable to be there, had also been let into the meeting room.
“M-Master, the Guild has its own circumstances…!” said Simon.
“It was clear what fate Natania would have suffered if she were captured, and they still deliberately wounded her leg and used her as bait. I think the punishment for that is too light. On top of that, she is an agile wildcat-type Beast-kin, and she is a lightly-equipped unarmed fighter. I don’t know what kind of members the Flame Blades had, but I find it hard to believe that there was anyone faster-footed than her,” Vandalieu continued, ignoring Simon’s attempts to stop him.
Having discussed things, Vandalieu had begun to suspect that the Flame Blades had let Natania into the party with the intention of sacrificing her if they ever found themselves in danger.
“H-how do you know that I’m an unarmed fighter?!” Natania said in surprise.
Vandalieu had done most of his discussions with those Natania couldn’t see – the Ghosts like Orbia and Princess Levia, and the nearby spirits.
“I also have the ‘Unarmed Fighting Technique’ Skill, so I guessed as much from your muscular structure. Look, even my claws can extend like this,” Vandalieu said, showing her the menacing, sharp claws extending from his fingertips.
“Wow, you’re right… Wait, you’re a Dhampir?! It’s my first time seeing one. You really do have claws,” Natania said in wonder.
“Wow, they’re sharper than most knives. Could I have a closer look at them, for future reference?” said Berard, leaning in to look at them as well.
“We’ve gone way off-topic, Guild Master,” Simon pointed out.
Berard hastily sat straight again. “The reason we cannot punish them more harshly is because the Adventurers’ Guild is not a judiciary body. We don’t have the authority to punish people or turn them into criminal slaves unless they have bounties on their heads, or they’re bandits or robbers. And it is commonly accepted that anything that happens to an adventurer is their own responsibility.”
Things being adventurers’ own responsibility meant that Natania also bore responsibility for the fact that she had been unable to choose better companions.
“But penalties to their advancement and the fines are not light punishments. The fines will be an amount that no D-class adventurer would be able to pay, and the amount that they are lacking will be taken out as a loan from the Guild. The fine that we get from them will be paid through the Guild to you as reparation, Natania-kun,” Berard continued. “And once rumors spread that they sacrificed a female companion to a horde of Minotaurs, nobody will go near them. There won’t be any more victims.”
According to Berard’s explanation, the Flame Blades would become greatly indebted to the Guild, forcing them into a situation where they would be working just to stay alive.
“I see… I’m sorry for interrupting,” said Vandalieu.
“No, it’s fine,” said Berard. “Anyway, moving onto another topic… Natania-kun, what will you do from now on? The amount you will get from selling the Magic Stones you brought and the reparation from the Flame Blades is nowhere near enough for you to live out the rest of your life. Even if you were to buy artificial limbs that are Magic Items, becoming able to use them in combat would be…”
Berard was talking about Natania and Juliana’s futures. Providing care for adventurers who could no longer continue working was one of the Adventurers’ Guild’s duties.
But this couldn’t be described as perfect; it was only small assistance, such as helping the one-armed Simon to find day jobs.
“That’s… Could I ask you to introduce me to someone for work? You should know someone you could introduce someone like me to, right?” said Natania with a dispirited sigh.
It seemed that she was relieved that the Flame Blades would be punished for betraying her, at the same time, she was losing her willpower.
“Alright. I’ll find you the best place I can,” said Berard.
Natania would no longer be able to go adventuring. But she had no savings, and no work or education either. There was one brothel that the Guild directed such female adventurers to.
“But what about Julia-kun over there?” Berard asked. “I’ve contacted the Tamers’ Guild, but… unfortunately, Guild Master Bachem has been out of town for work since this morning, so a price quote will have to be later.”
Juliana, whom Berard knew as Julia, the village girl who had been attacked and captured by the Minotaurs before Natania, didn’t meet the requirements to receive care from the Adventurers’ Guild.
However, Berard had contacted the Tamers’ Guild to have them purchase the monster children that she was pregnant with.
“Julia doesn’t have any family, so I’m thinking of taking care of her. She’s the only reason I still have my sanity,” said Natania.
“Alright. Let’s hurry and have Bachem purchase the monsters as soon as he returns,” said Berard.
“No, there’s no need for that,” said an unfamiliar voice.
“I see. If you don’t need me to get you in touch with him, then I don’t have to… Wait, who spoke just now?!” Berard shouted.
“Juliana-san?! You can talk now?!” Natania exclaimed.
As both of them stared at her, Juliana nodded, with light having returned to her eyes.
“Natania, because of you and everyone, I have avoided death, and my sanity has returned. Thank you for not abandoning me,” she said.
“That’s not true! You’re the one who encouraged me… Ah, I’m so glad! It’s really you, Juliana!” Natania cried, tears of joy from seeing Juliana’s recovery streaming down her face.
She didn’t seem to have noticed that Juliana’s behavior was a little strange.
“It’s wonderful that you have recovered, but what did you mean when you said that you don’t need me to contact the Tamers’ Guild? … I think abortion would be dangerous if they’ve already grown that large,” said Berard, pretending not to notice that Natania had used the name ‘Juliana.’
“I mean exactly what I said. After discussing things with everyone, I have decided to leave everything to the goddess… in other words, entrust myself to this person,” said Juliana, pointing at Vandalieu.
“I’m not a goddess, but I’ll be taking care of her,” said Vandalieu.
It seemed that Juliana would come into the care of a Dhampir boy.
“When did you do that?! No wait, is it really alright to do that?! You’re going to be giving birth to Minotaur children, you know!” Berard exclaimed.
“I’m an official member of the Tamers’ Guild,” said Vandalieu.
“I-it’s true that you have the qualifications to handle them…” Berard murmured.
The Tamers’ Guild purchased young monsters, but there was no rule that forbade members from personally purchasing them.
“And I’ve already tamed Rank 4 monsters,” Vandalieu pointed out.
“You’ve even already proven yourself… On top of that, you have a job and a house, and she herself wants to trust you. She isn’t a criminal or a slave; she’s just a victim with no family… I have no right or reason to stop you,” said Berard, giving a dry laugh. “Very well, do as you please.”
“Is it… really that simple?” said Simon, his eyes opening wide at this sudden development. “Don’t you need to ask your mother first?”
“Ah, that’s right. You should talk to your mother about it first. It’s not a simple thing to take responsibility for a person and Minotaur children,” said Berard.
“My mother is an understanding person, so it’s alright,” said Vandalieu.
He had in fact sent Chipuras to report the situation to Darcia as quickly as possible, but he didn’t tell the truth to Berard and the others.
“I-I see. Your mother must be very understanding indeed,” said Berard. “Well then, about your situation, Natania-kun –” he began, trying to return the topic to Natania’s future.
“Eh, I’m coming with you as well?!” Natania exclaimed.
“Yes, Natania. This person promised that he would help you. This person will definitely grant you new hands and feet,” said Juliana. “let us go to the goddess’s side together.”
Juliana had been persuading Natania to come with her while Vandalieu and Berard had their short exchange.
“I’m not a goddess, but what she says is true. I’m not a god, though,” Vandalieu added for emphasis.
“We encouraged each other when we were in that Minotaur lair. Do you remember what I said back then? No matter how difficult things are, we must not escape towards death. As long as we do not abandon hope, the goddess will answer our prayers,” said Juliana. “And the goddess… Vida has answered us.”
Juliana’s way of persuasion had been quite fanatical. Perhaps having been touched by the voice of Vandalieu, whom she seemed to believe was a ‘goddess,’ she was behaving strangely.
“Umm, I mean, I remember, but… I don’t think this child… I think it’s a boy… would be a god,” said Natania, looking pale with a confused expression on her face.
“You’re right. But she doesn’t listen, even though I’m repeating it multiple times because it’s important to understand,” said Vandalieu.
“But Master also promised me that he would grant me a way to do something about my arm if I believed in him and followed him,” said Simon.
“Alright… I’ll go with you as well. It’s true that this child doesn’t feel like an ordinary person,” said Natania.
It seemed that Simon’s words had added some credibility to Juliana’s… or perhaps she had just given up.
“I see. I’m glad things are sorted out. Well then, I have some paperwork to do, so I’ll excuse myself,” said Berard, unable to hide the twitches of his mouth.
Juliana, who had regained a facial expression and her consciousness, seemed to have gained her sanity back at first glance. But hadn’t she merely gone from being a vegetable to being a lunatic? Looking at her eyes, Berard couldn’t help but think this.
And he was certain that the reason for this was Vandalieu, who had been whispering something in her ear the entire time.
… I was intending to invite him to at least just register at the Adventurers’ Guild once things settled down a little, but… it’s probably best to wait and see for a little longer. He might actually be quite a dangerous person, Berard thought to himself as he left the meeting room to take care of various pieces of paperwork.
After leaving the Adventurers’ Guild and bidding farewell to Simon along the way, Natania was carried to Vandalieu’s house… and received a rough explanation on what they were.
What with Darcia being Vida’s incarnation and her son being Zakkart’s successor, Natania thought she was going crazy, but she somehow made it through the explanation.
“Natania-san, the reason I’m telling you all of these secrets is because –” Vandalieu began.
“I know. You’re making sure that I know there’s no way out now that I know all of this, right?” Natania said nervously, her tail bunching up.
“Vandalieu-sama, Darcia-sama, this girl is misunderstanding,” said Chipuras.
“That’s not it. It’s just that if we’re going to take care of you at our house, you’re going to learn a lot of things, so we thought it would be better to tell you beforehand,” Darcia explained.
“Natania-san, there are a few ways I can help you… to restore your body to the state it was in before, or better. I’m going to explain them to you now, so please make a choice,” said Vandalieu. “First, I can transplant the arms and legs of a female Vampire that I have kept preserved, transforming you into a Vampire after you endure some heavy side effects.”
Unlike Simon, not that long had passed since Natania lost her limbs; she had not yet lost the parts of her brain that were responsible for controlling them. If Vandalieu transplanted the limbs of the Live-dead Pure-breed Vampire Ternecia to Natania, it was likely that she would immediately be able to move them.
However, Natania would not remain a mere Beast-kin after the transplantation of such large body parts. Vandalieu would conduct the surgery while placing her under the effects of the ‘Death Delay’ spell, so she would not die. But in the worst-case scenario, she would suffer agonizing side-effects that would make her wish she were dead as she transformed into a Vampire.
“A-are there no other methods?” asked Natania. “If not –”
“There is the method of using artificial limbs that are Magic Items… We could probably build them if we wanted to,” said Vandalieu.
He possessed the ‘Alchemy’ Skill at Level 10. As long as he had the materials, he would probably be able to create artificial arms and legs that moved like real limbs.
“I think this is the easiest option. But I don’t know if you’ll become able to fight,” said Vandalieu.
“… That might be true, but that would mean just staying in your care for the rest of our lives. I didn’t hear the details, but Juliana-san is going to pay her debt back to you, right? I want to repay my debt too, if you’re going to help me,” said Natania, her resolve firm. “If it’s possible, I want you to let me undergo the same training as that Simon guy.”
“Very well. Then let’s work hard together,” said Vandalieu.
He still didn’t mention the Root of Life. He had decided to help Natania, but the Root of Life was Zakkart’s creation, the epitome of the life attribute. It was a precious material that even Vandalieu could not recreate.
He couldn’t use that for Natania and Juliana’s limbs.
There was also the method of pseudo-reincarnation. But in Natania’s case, it would mean dying and being reborn in a new body like Quinn had done, so Vandalieu had assumed that she would not choose this option.
It may have caused some misunderstandings, after all.
“Then shall we make a start today? You will need more training than Simon,” said Vandalieu.
Natania nodded. “Alright, what do I need to – What is this?! S-something is going inside of me!” she screamed.
The next day, Vandalieu and his companions left not for the Devil’s Nest, but a grassy area some distance away from it.
“Do you not need to hunt for meat, Master? What about Leveling these guys?” asked Simon, looking worried.
“It’s alright,” Vandalieu replied.
Having cast ‘Preservation’ on the meat he already had, there was several days’ worth stocked up at the house. The same was true for the Goblin and Kobold meat needed to make Gobu-gobu and steamed Kobold.
However, Gobu-gobu and steamed Kobold had already gained popularity, so it was possible that these would run out more quickly than expected.
There were rumors even outside the entertainment district that Goblin and Kobold meat, which was the typical example of monster meat that was unpleasant-tasting to the point of being inedible, was apparently being served in tasty meals at food carts marked with a heart.
Yesterday, there had even been adventurers who had apparently heard the rumors and made the effort to come to the back alleys of the entertainment district to try it as a test of courage.
“If we run out of Goblin and Kobold meat, we’ll put out a commission for it at the Adventurers’ Guild, so there’s no need to worry,” said Vandalieu.
“Ah, that’s… If I had limbs, I might have gone to join that instead,” said Natania.
“If it’s just Goblins, I might have given it a go, too,” said Simon.
If there were requests to buy Goblin and Kobold meat, inexperienced and less capable adventurers would have been glad to go and hunt Goblins and Kobolds.
After all, Goblins were plentiful and weak. They did not even provide Magic Stones that were worth anything, nor did they provide any useful materials. Ordinarily, one would only gain five Baums for selling their ears that served as proof of having killed a Goblin. They were unpopular as prey.
But if their meat could be sold, they would become a precious source of income even for inexperienced adventurers.
“And as for the Leveling of Fang and the others… They’re getting to the point where they can’t increase their Rank just by Leveling, so I’m thinking of spending some time having them learn to move their bodies and promote the learning of new Skills,” said Vandalieu.
Fang had grown from the size of a large dog into the size of an ox, and the rats had grown larger and become able to change the properties of their fur. Thus, they needed to become accustomed to their new bodies.
Levels alone weren’t enough to cause Rank increases in monsters; Skills were needed as well. For example, if a Black Goblin wanted to become a Black Goblin Ninja, they would need to not only increase their Level; they would also need to acquire scout-related Skills such as ‘Silent Steps’ and ‘Trap,’ and increase the Levels of those Skills.
Fang and the others had defeated monsters of similar strength as themselves and gained Experience Points, rapidly increasing their Ranks, but the Levels of their Skills were low as a result. Thus, they were training amongst themselves today.
The Hellhound Fang and the Iron Rat Suruga were having a fierce practice battle, while the Flame Rat Maroru and Wet Rat Urumi were battling with their flames and cold air.
“I-it doesn’t really look like training,” Simon remarked.
“Are they really alright?!” said Natania, looking concerned.
But there wasn’t a problem. Though Simon and Natania couldn’t see them, Princess Levia and Orbia were supervising the training.
“Also, I’m not sure if her name was Julia or Juliana, but I’m curious as to why she’s not here…” said Simon.
“Julia is fine. She’s going to be working hard on a different method from you, so she’s at the house,” said Vandalieu. “Now then, we’re going to begin the training, so please put this on, Simon.”
He handed Simon a practice ‘arm’ that he had brought on his cart.
At first glance, it appeared to be the right arm taken off a set of plate armor with a belt to attach it to the body.
“You got it!” said Simon, believing in Vandalieu as promised and attaching the arm to himself without asking any questions.
“Just to confirm, how is the size?” Vandalieu asked.
“Umm, the belt’s length is perfect… and it attaches firmly to my right shoulder, and doesn’t slip. It’s like you matched it to my shoulder’s size,” said Simon. “Master, when did you make this?! Don’t tell me you foresaw this happening from a long time ago…!”
“No, I can’t see the future,” said Vandalieu. “After I got home yesterday, I just took the arm off a set of armor and adjusted it a little.”
While treating Simon yesterday, Vandalieu had used the ‘Perfect Record Technique’ Skill to remember Simon’s physical dimensions. Based on this, he had used ‘Golem Creation’ to process the armor to create the ‘arm’ and adjust the part that connected to the shoulder with Tarea’s help.
“It’s a makeshift item that I made for practice. I’ll give you a more convenient arm once your training progresses, so look forward to that,” said Vandalieu as he attached similar ‘arms’ as well as ‘legs’ to Natania. “Now then, the training is about to begin, so please come over here, Simon. Sit to Natania’s left and whatever you feel, let it in.”
“Got it. But what do we need to do for the training…?” Simon asked, trusting Vandalieu but looking confused nonetheless.
“He said you don’t have to do anything in the beginning. You just need to learn,” Natania advised him with a rather distant-looking gaze.
“Learn? Learn what, exac – ?!”
Before Simon could finish his sentence, he felt an unfamiliar, foreign sensation.
He didn’t feel pain, heat or cold. But he could clearly feel something that was entirely foreign entering his body, pushing against him.
“W-what in the world is happening to my body, what’s going on…?!” Simon shouted, his eyes opening wide in response to this indescribable sensation.
“Even though it’s my second time, I can’t get used to thiiiiis!” Natania screamed, her tail bunching up as she endured it.
“Don’t be afraid, just stay like that… Just like that…” Vandalieu said gently.
His hands were touching them, and his spirit form extended from them, pressing against the spirit forms that lay within their bodies.
He was trying to press their spirit forms out of Simon’s right shoulder and Natania’s severed limbs.
This was to make them acquire the ‘Spirit Form’ Skill and unliving arms and legs that they could move as their own, like Living-Armor-type Undead.
Ordinarily, it would be impossible for living people to acquire the ‘Spirit Form’ Skill, which was possessed almost solely by Undead. The spirit form of people resided in their bodies and could not extend outside them, and to begin with, there was no point in the living possessing the ‘Spirit Form’ Skill.
In order to have Natania and Simon learn the Skill despite being living people, it was necessary to have them learn the sensation of their spirit form leaving their bodies. Once they were able to extend a part of their spirit form outside their bodies on their own, they would just need to train to become able to move the arms and legs that Vandalieu had given them.
Once they could do this, they would have limbs that they could move as they wished.
It would be nice if I could teach them in their dreams like Vigaro, but… I’ll be able to change Jobs soon, so I guess I’ll become a ‘Dream Guider’ next, Vandalieu thought.
If he did that, perhaps he’d be able to control his actions inside dreams more.
With these thoughts running through his mind, Vandalieu continued pressing Simon and Natania’s spirit forms.

Guildmaster was probably Sherlock Holmes on Earth and got reincarnated on Lambda. ^^

Instead of pressing the spirit forms, kneading or moulding would fit better.

“I’m not a god, though,” Vandalieu added for emphasis.
It’s to late Van, you can’t escape your fate of becoming a god :’)
It’s actually somewhat poetic that Van the (probably) future god of death is closely related to Vida the goddess of life.
I’m also sure that our dear deceased god of records would be “very” happy that Van is making use of his ‘Record’ skills to help people 😛

Curatos’ Perfect Record ability would surely come in handy if Van were to establish himself as a god of a certain domain. With it he wouldn’t be able to do any Rodcorte tier mistakes either.
Edit: And damn, it was almost time for Ternecia’s body transplants to actually do something other than be referred to as honkin’ bazongas, but I guess not.

Is there a race of lycanthropes in the Death Mage, or do they fall into the category of beast-kins?
That question came to me when I thought about how the Death Mage story would change if Valen-san had been a werewolf before he became a vampire.
PS: Yes, I thought of Darcia-sama commenting something like: ‘It was fun to throw sticks for him to fetch’, and in a scene where Van-sama runs after his own tail.
Absolute Zer0
Wolf-kin girl become new race similar to lycanthrope. They have beast transformation skill thus can turn to wolfes
Kuro-san
Thanks, but I already know that even normal beast-kins can use ‘Beast Transformation’ (There is a mention of this in ‘Appendix 4 – Explanation of races that have appeared’).
I want to know if there is a separate lycanthrope race separate from the beast-kins or if the beast-kins count as the lycanthropes of Death Mage. Although there is a possibility that lycanthropes are a type of monster, possibly Rank 3 or higher.
SuicidalSkeletin
I doubt it. The basis of lycanthropes is literally a human becoming a wolf or a human/ wolf hybrid. In a world where beast-kin exists and they have the beastification ability that would be way too unnecessary to include. And van couldn’t have been a beast-kin before becoming a vampire, he was born as a Dhampir. If Darcia was a beast-kin it’s possible he would be born with animal features as well, but he would still be categorized as a Dhampir
Jonathan Hurd
If I remember correctly I think it was rare for beastkin to have the beast transformation. The ones that usually had it were vampires.
As far as werewolves in the story I would say possible but not likely. I think there is a chance that bi pedal wolves exist (though thinking about it now isn’t that just a kobold?). I could imagine a wolf corrupted and turned into a monster becoming one. Basically they could be more mobile and stronger wolves.
If you’re looking for someone who infects humans with a bite and people transforming on a full moon I’d say no. As has been established with Vampires race changes aren’t easy. If Vampires can’t just bite you and turn you I’m not sure why werewolves could.
Kuro-san
Thanks, but on ‘appendix 4’, we have this quote:
‘As Adventurers, they are suited to being scouts or frontline fighters, and they tend to prefer being unarmed fighters using their claws and horns, or having roles that fight with light equipment . Also, they can gain skills such as Beast Transformation, a skill that turns them temporarily into half-beast half-human creatures, and acquire race-specific Jobs such as Beast Warrior.’
So I believe that instead of the beast transformation being something unique, it is just something that depends on ‘talent’ and ‘dedication’.
In addition, I am thinking of something more like D&D lycanthropes, who are not just wolves, but also bears, rats, tigers, etc., and who have the ability to transform themselves at any time, as long as they accept their lycanthrope side and train enough, however, lose control at the full moon in case they don’t accept your lycanthrope side and see yourself as monsters.
Apart from these two points, I agree with everything you said.
Jonathan Hurd
That makes sense. Thank you for looking that up I was feeling lazy, lol.
I would say I don’t see why the beast transformation couldn’t hit other things. I think Vampires had Bats and maybe mice in their assortment of transformations.
I could imagine a cat beast person turning into more of a tiger than a wolf as well.
For going mad at full moon… hmm. I’m not sure. We admittedly have met the Goddess of the Moon Talks sister. After she gave Basida her divine protection Basida did get strengthened under moonlight. So I can’t say it’s impossible. Not sure if there will be a monster that is forced to go on rampages under the full moon though.
I will say I find the chance of anything that goes on random rampages once a month existing in any human society low. Aldas’s countries would hunt them like monsters to extinction from the start. For Vidas races they’d be to dangerous since all their cities are cramped and surrounded by Devils nests.
jacktronsit13
it does grant Basdia attribute bonuses in the moonlight it was in an explanation earlier.

Well this is interesting, I suspect that Juliana will become a female minotaur beast creature. I can’t wait to see cyborgs in future books. Kind of angry that natania’s former party only become slaves to the guild. They should be punished much more severely and I think Vand will ensure that they are. I do wonder if Fang will gain a second head before becoming a cerberus.
Lord Rin
If Fang grows a second head then he’d be an Orthrus which in Greek mythology was Cerberus’ brother.
Jonathan Hurd
I’m perfectly fine with Fang graduating to an Orthos first and later becoming a Cerberus. Would be pretty jarring to go from one head to three anyways. Best to take steps.
Hobbes
Yeah let’s put our heads together & advance forward, one mutation at a time
SuicidalSkeletin
I think its very unlikely Juliana will become a “beast creature”. If she is to be reborn like Pauvina Vandalieu will perform genetic editing on the eggs so that the creatures that spawn are more human than minotaur. Also there’s no guarantee she’ll be reborn, Van could turn her into a Vampire after the eggs detach from her.
Jonathan Hurd
Honestly she seems reasonably mentally stable (using Vans group as a reference) as she currently is. If she was like Pauvina’s human soul just repeating ‘Get out of my body!’ And nothing else then I’d say reincarnation is in order. She seems perfectly happy with her current body and doesn’t seem to want to lose her memories. I’m with SuicidalSkeletin, my money is on she becomes a vampire. The ones who are reincarnated though will be her former squad mates who will become bull beastman similar to how Pauvina is a pig beastmanm

LOL mate but don’t forget natalia but i don’t think they would die anytime soon van will probably keep deaging them over and over again unless they turn into undead once they die and become immortal that or they will become heroic spirits probably for van in case he becomes a great god of DEATH AND CHAOS
Daniel
Thanks for the new chapter. I hope Simon and natania become to new race. Maybe become to race cyborgs with skill like cyborgs in the movie. Ya I hope that
Jonathan Hurd
First off, Thanks for the chapter, :D.
So just a random guess from me. We know that Natania and Simon are going to do the Spirit form/prosthetic route and that Juliana is apparently not joining them along the same journey. I am going to guess that what Van is currently doing for her is he is going to reincarnate her old subordinates into the Minotaur eggs. I will also make the guess that I think she might be going the Vampire route by getting Ternecia’s limbs transplanted.
I think he might wait for the Minotaur’s to come out first before doing that surgery because he doesn’t know how transforming into a vampire could affect them. Considering her love of the ‘Goddess’ (snicker) I think she’d be ecstatic to gain immortality so she can eternally stay by Van’s side. So basically we might have another completely crazy vampire lady who is head over heels for Van to join the party, lol.
Jonathan Hurd
Looking at her mental state talking to the guildmaster I don’t think she’s so broken to need the reincarnation. She is speaking fluently and making decisions. I feel like she would definitely choose whatever option would help her best serve her new master and Goddess(snicker) Van. As well as helping her fallen comrades who helped bring her back from the brink.
I think Vampire is probably the fastest and best way for her to increase her strength. Especially if she gets the limbs of a purebred Vampire at that. Compared to that reincarnation comes with risks of losing memories/personality. I think she wouldn’t want to risk forgetting her comrades and the Goddess even if she gets to forget the trauma of the days in the minotaur cave.
I think she is most likely to reserve the unborn Minotaur bodies for those of her comrades that are truly broken. Like the ghosts that just kept laughing to themselves. The others might be reincarnated as Living armors and later teamed up with the newborn minotaur.
SuicidalSkeletin
I agree with your predictions, it’s objectively the most likely thing Van would decide on as well
Jonathan Hurd
To start off, being a lunatic is the normal for Vans group. Yes, the guild master sees her as crazy. Normal people think the same about Pluto, Elanora, Van, and just about everyone else in his party. She fits right in.
I will say that reincarnation does seem to come with fragmented memories because that is what Van told Emma and the other villagers when giving them the option to become undead or reincarnate.
For Quinn’s case she was a Bee monster to start with so a bit weirder physiology from a human to start. We never really saw her talk directly. So we have no clue if she didn’t lose any memories or how reincarnation might have changed her. Van and Pauvina accepted her and love her as their childhood friend but that doesn’t mean she didn’t lose anything in the transition.
I have to say I’m confused why you think Juliana will be hunted by her family. Randolf reported her dead. The guild master is blatantly ignoring she’s alive to save his head. Juliana and Natania don’t want to die or have anything to do with the duke so they aren’t reporting it. Van clearly has no intention on staying in this ducky for a long time. Why the heck would the duke send assassin’s to kill someone who is by all accounts dead. For that matter how does he even figure out where she is assuming he knows to look?
Add in if she becomes a Vampire the story of her living becomes even weirder. If the duke wants her out of the way for succession no one’s going to agree to be ruled by vamps. If the problem is her being captured by minotaurs her being a vampire trumps that story. You just say she betrayed her comrades and was seduced by a vampire. Leaving her comrades to be destroyed by the minotaurs.
Jonathan Hurd
I will make a few corrections on Julianas situation…
First no one is reporting a Quadra amputee named Juliana was a victim of minataurs. The guild master blatantly and clearly ignored her real name drop. Considering all the information the guild master was able to read between the lines he isn’t going to report anything about either Juliana or Natalia. Who do you think gets silenced after Juliana? First on the list is him. Whether that is by Randolph or the Duke. The only thing the guild master is going to report is an adventurer came across some minataurs in the forest. So I have to ask again where is the duke going to get the info Juliana is alive from? It would only inconvenience everyone who could tell to do so.
Second, why would she try to establish relationships with nobles of the Orbaume Kingdom? She can simply move to Vans kingdom. I mean in the best case scenario she convinces anyone of what happened to her by he minotaurs and we get a repeat of what was going to happen to Kachia and the other adventurer women way back. No one will accept someone who was captured by monsters back in Aldas society. Sure they might feel bad and think the assassination attempt was overboard, but sane or not she has no place in the Duchy now or ever again.
For the Vampire part. I will say there is a possibility of that. He could also just state some vampire is pretending to be her or a few other excuses. The problem in the Hartner Duchy was one brothers subordinates were all Vampire sympathisers. The other brother wasn’t immediately suspected because of him. Make a public enough show of fighting the Vamps and mourning your sister and he’d probably be fine.
For Quinn’s case I will just say we lack a lot of the info of what she knew pre rebirth and honestly a lot of what she knew post rebirth. Add in she was a monster to start and she seems like a pretty bad precedent to compare a human reincarnation.
I will agree that Emma’s villagers and Pauvinas souls started out pretty damaged and so reincarnation didn’t help, but it still stands that the reincarnation method had the highest chance of damaging memories.
Lord Rin
Yeah Duke Alcrem isn’t going to be looking for Juliana but I think there’s a very high chance that either the Duke himself or one of his subordinates are doing something completely unrelated and they just happen to catch sight of Juliana and recognize her at which point the Duke could send assassins after her to silence her.
Meanwhile Van does seem that he has changed his plans for the duchy. Originally he was only there so he could lure out Murakami or Birkyne and do the workaround of joining the Merchant’s Guild so he could then join the Adventurer’s Guild without his jobs, stats and titles being known. But now that his mom is preaching and spreading Vida’s religion then it would be better to convert the entire duchy. It is historically leaning more towards Alda’s side so it would be a good strike against Alda’s faction. Meanwhile Duke Alcrem only allowed Vida’s races to be able to hold public positions solely as a political move to gain support from the Five-Colored Blades and Alda’s Peaceful Faction. He doesn’t even seem to be enforcing the new stance since so far the only member of Vida’s races shown to hold a public position is Kest and he’s just a lowly city guard. If Van wants to convert the duchy to be more pro-Vida for his mom’s sake then he needs to remove Duke Alcrem and he can do that with Juliana’s help. She’s already willing to do anything for her “goddess (lol)” so she could show up to challenge Duke Alcrem for his position and just make up a story about how her squad sacrificed themselves to let her escape the minotaurs and that she was then taken care of by Vida’s believers and then she could accuse Duke Alcrem of specifically sending her on the mission to get rid of her and that he hired somebody to make sure she died but she managed to convince the person to spare her and lie about completing their mission. If Van goes down the route to turn her into a vampire by transplanting Ternicia’s limbs onto her then the only physical changes would be red eyes and fangs and those can be easily hidden with illusion magic or an item. Meanwhile changing into a vampire would immediately make her stronger and she’d only need to drink Blood Potions to become Abbysal while at the same time since Ternicia is just a Live-Dead then she doesn’t need to worry about the parent-child relationship vampires have with those they turned. Even if Juliana doesn’t contend for the position of Duchess against Duke Alcrem she could always support somebody else. Like Earl Morksi. That guy has been shown to be very reasonable. He was polite when he sent people to Van to offer him protection and he didn’t get angry when Van turned down the offer. He hasn’t tried to take advantage of Van like his idiot uncle and once his patience with Joseph ran out he told his subordinate to make up an excuse so he can arrest him. Even when he sent spies to keep watch over Van, his spies aren’t intrusive and don’t try to make things difficult.
Lord Rin
@TankHunter: Quinn isn’t a good example to use. She is an insect and them and plants have such alien mental structures that people can’t normally tame them. It’s entirely possible that because of Quinn’s mental structure because she’s an insect that she can go through a pseudo-reincarnation with her memories and personality intact. Though on the other hand we never knew how Quinn was before her pseudo-reincarnation so we can’t be sure how much of her memories and personality are intact.
Lord Rin
That guild master seems like a pretty good guy. I was expecting him to be a stiff bureaucrat who would just give some lip service that they would deal with the Flame Blades and wouldn’t actually do anything. But no he genuinely is pissed about what they did and truly apologetic that he can’t give them a worse punishment. Also he didn’t complain about Van selling goblin parts through Simon even though the guild and adventurers in general aren’t pleased by it. Also he’s smart enough to read between the lines but not stick his nose into things like when he noticed Natania accidentally call Juliana by her real name and figured out that she’s Duke Alcrem’s sister, that the adventurer Ralph is most likely Randolf in disguise and that Van is probably responsible for Juliana’s current demeanor. He figured all that out but knows it’d be too troublesome or dangerous to investigate further.
So Van is giving them metal limbs as prosthetics and teaching them Spirit Form so they can possess the limbs and control them. Yeah people would look at them funny if they see two adventurers that look like they’re wearing plate armor only on some or all of their limbs. Meanwhile it sounds like Juliana is going to get pseudo-reincarnated into one of the minotaurs probably along with the rest of her squad like Pauvina. I only wonder how long it would take for them to mature. Pauvina is slowly maturing and I just can’t see Juliana maturing that slow. Maybe because the minotaurs were made through the Demon King’s Oviducts, they will mature super quickly since the Oviducts are meant to create an army quickly. Anyways I still think Van is going to get revenge on Duke Alcrem for Juliana. Van takes really good care of his subordinates. Just look how angry he was at the Flame Blades for what they did to Natania and he’ll probably do something to them once he inevitably encounters them. Van has probably already heard about what sort of person Duke Alcrem is from Juliana’s subordinates and that ordering Randolf to kill her probably has nothing to do with being a compassionate mercy kill and is instead purely political so that it doesn’t stain his family name and probably saw this as an opportunity to get rid of somebody he doesn’t like. I mean he already announced to the public that she is dead when she isn’t and Van could easily find out about that which would also remind him of the same bullshit treatment that Iris and her group got. Unlike in the Sauron Duchy where Van was only interested in it and helping the resistance because it would give him access to cooperating with the Scylla’s so he could get rice, here it seems one of his goals has become to convert Alcrem Duchy into being pro-Vida now that Darcia is preaching about Vida and Duke Alcrem would just get in the way of that.
On another note it seems Van has realized that the guild and adventurers have been getting unhappy that Van was hunting for meat himself instead of commissioning quests from them. Now to fix that he’s popularized gobu gobu and kobold meat which will create requests from Van’s chain stores to the guild that even less experienced adventurers can take and increase the worth of hunting goblins and kobolds who most adventurers don’t want to hunt because they are worth so little which is why they wouldn’t want to take such requests in the first place. Also Van has publicized that the food is from Vida’s people which will raise awareness of Vida’s religion and open a door to the public finding out that ghouls are actually a race of Vida’s.
Jonathan Hurd
The adventurer guild master is definitely smarter than I thought he’d be. Then again we’ve been dealing with Joseph so long even having half a brain is a step up. I do agree with the author though, it takes a wise man to read between the lines and a wiser man to know when not to.
I think the worry Van had for Simon is that Van would custom make Simons arm and Van has no idea of what the traditional type looks like. So it will probably draw attention when they see it.
I think Van putting orders into the adventurers guild is less about him realizing they’re getting pissy and more to do with how that meat isn’t for his stall. The reason Van got his own meat is mainly so he’d leave a paper trail to pass the Merchant Guilds test. If he tried to get the required meat from adventurers he would quickly start losing money selling his food and they could say he fails cause he couldn’t make a profit. So Van needed to make a public show answering the question ‘how are you getting your meat?’ With ‘im hunting it myself’.

Alright, two new additions to the empire. Also I’m looking forward to the day where Mei is brought to Van’s side, its kind of like NTRing the parents but also not and I like the feeling
VEreality
I think you want to say that Banda is cuckholding them as a parent figure in Mei’s eyes. NTRing and cuckholding are not the same.(I just googled this because your comment made me think that I didn’t understood these terms properly). Also, yes. I agree with you on this one.
Jonathan Hurd
A big thing to remember is Mei’s father Ameimeiya is a giant hater of Death Attribute Magic. I’m interested in how loving her dad’s going to continue being when he finds his precious little girl has Mana he thinks should be erased from the world…
There might be less stealing Mei from her parents and more saving her from them.
Jonathan Hurd
Honestly I feel like you might be thinking too kindly of the Braver. To me I feel his issue with Death Attribute is less sympathy for the victims and more to do with the chaos their existence created. To him and a lot of the other Bravers the clear turning point in their lives was after killing the Undead.
After that they became anti terrorists. The world went crazy for death attribute mana. Murakami joined the eighth guidance with his squad and the Bravers started having their first casualties.
It is true he felt bad for Pluto and her group, but honestly a lot of the Bravers did. My problem with them is ‘feeling bad’ is basically where they stopped. They never cared about the pain inflicted on Pluto and the rest. They never understood the depths of their despair. That’s why the moment the Bravers teammates died it was so easy for them to kill Pluto and the rest.
To me Asagi and Amemeyia aren’t so different. Both live in nostalgia. Asagi basically lives believing that the bond of being classmates on Earth should triumph over everything. Amemeiya seems like he wants to go back to the start when everyone was on the same team and working together. We all know the past they are wishing for never existed. For instance everyone wasn’t one team just because they go to the same school like Asagi assumes, and the Bravers were never truly unified, they just paved over the cracks in their relationship through force.
As long as they refuse to look at the present and understand it I don’t think there is any hope of them making a correct choice when dealing with the Death Attribute. They blindly put their faith in the wrong sources and completely ignore the other side forcing a death battle.
I will just say Amemeyia has already killed two of the Death Attribute mages he has encountered thus far. Neither deserving it. My money is on that number increasing to three before they all meet in Lambda.
Lord Rin
Did Amemiya kill Pluto? I don’t remember. Wasn’t she killed by one of the other Bravers while he was shocked by Pluto’s revelation that Narumi was pregnant?
Anyways yes he thinks the Death Attribute is too dangerous and shouldn’t be researched but he has never expressed the idea that people with the Death Attribute need to be exterminated. He hasn’t gone all Knight Templar like Asagi. He believes in the inherent good of people. To a stupidly naive degree which is why it’s so easy for Rikudou to manipulate him. That’s why he was so shocked when he learned about the Gungnir’s crimes and was also the only one of the Bravers who went on the mission to capture the Eighth Guidance because he genuinely wanted to save and protect them. It’s also why he is absolutely horrified when he found out that the Undead that he killed was actually one of his fellow reincarnators and was fully in control of himself and staging his own rescue of the Eighth Guidance at the time only to be gunned down by people who should have been his allies. He regrets it enough along with what happened with the Eighth Guidance later that he has named both of his children after users of the Death Attribute. Hiroshi is apparently another way to read the characters for the name Hiroto which was Van’s old name and Mei comes from Meiousei which is the Japanese name for Pluto.
More likely once he finds out about Mei possessing the Death Attribute, he’ll go to great lengths to protect her since he was unable to protect Van and Pluto before. It might be the impetus to for him to stop being such a Failure Hero. Especially since the Gods of Origin have decided that they’ll use him and the remaining Bravers to combat Rikudou and his allies. Well he might still have to kill a Death Attribute user since Rikudou is researching a way to give himself the Death Attribute.

So… An exclusive skills for a race with few members is considered ‘unique skills’ by the status system…
Does this mean that when Chaos Elves become a race with a few dozen or hundreds of individuals, the ‘chaos’ skill will be displayed as a ‘common skill’?
Lord Rin
No I think they would still be classified as unique skills just that they’d now be unique racial skills.
Jonathan Hurd
I was also a bit curious about that. I think what the author is saying is that Unique skills usually are classified as such because they are stronger than the average abilities. The Rats skills are pretty average. However have their skills are classified as unique because of their rarity not because of the abilities power.
Phantom Knight
Thanks for the chapter!!!! Hopefully, the current situation means that Vandalieu-sama will convert two new people into a new race while giving them his guidance and Divine Protection.
As for the fact that the female Knight is adamant in viewing Van-sama as a female goddess……pffft….I can’t stop laughing. It is too rich. Lol

It’s funny when you remember Van’s race is Dhampir (Goddess).

Nox
Thanks for the chapter.
Guess now that a Cerberus is soon going to be created/guided into becoming one, we can hope that Sonic will be joining them too, hopefully.
It’s kind of ironic how both the ladies said that they won’t escape towards death but are now in the care of the soon to be death god, Vandalieu.
Wouldn’t it be easier if he used his spirit form skill and let the beast-girl benefit from his healing skills or is there a limit how much others can heal from his healing skills?
Lord Rin
If Darcia’s Demon Eyes of Regeneration can’t fix them then Van sharing his own regenerative powers wouldn’t help either.
Jonathan Hurd
If you want to escape death I can’t think of a better place than being at the side of the God of Death himself, lol.
Van’s ability to regenerate others with his spirit form and skills is somewhat limited. For spells the only thing he can really do is stave off death or increase peoples natural healing ability. Obviously not going to cut it for regrowing limbs. For his regeneration, he doesn’t really have regeneration in the same way Ternecia does. Vans regeneration lies more in the fact that can use spirit form to rearrange himself back together. Add in he usually creates off shoots with the Demon King Fragments and protects the main body he honestly avoids damage more than he heals it.
Renrobt
Let’s not forget what was said when Natalia awoke and noticed the distinct lack of limbs: a relatively medium class potion (I think it was said 4th rank or something) can reattach limbs as long as they revived no other treatment, at least for the limbs.
Going by this my guess would be simply that the crude healing given by the minotaurs and the treatment given my Randalph essentially “locked” the limbs in such state, so even if they get the best potions or rapid regeneration their limbs would simply stay like that and only regen up to that point.
gomezseba37
so the eyes of regeneration cant regenerate lost limbs unless its a fresh cut. also learning the spirit form skill as a human must be difficult af
ObserverBias
Fresh cut ‘or’ if there were parts left to regenerate (like bone fragments or extraneous flesh). If they’ve been missing their limbs but are still alive, their wounds have long-since cauterized and sealed.
Jonathan Hurd
The biggest issue really is the making something from nothing part. Reattaching would be pretty simple, but creating the limbs from nothing is a whole other level. I mean even for a monster as strong as Ternecia that took a ton of her stamina. A mere human would probably not be able to survive the costs of such a procedure.
Triduo
So, in the end, Van won’t really replace their limbs… He’ll use their brains to makes new ones ? With their soul ?
Dragolstice : A Soul’s form also depends on one’s imagination, so, just like how Van can create multiple heads with his soul, it isn’t impossible to replace lost limbs with phantom limbs and make them feel like the real ones.
I guess I see your point ?
Also, who wants to bet that they’ll get jobs that makes use of their phantoms limbs in the future ? ( OuO)
Paradoxe : Nobody because it’s obvious that they’ll do. -__-
Okay…
Triduo
What I’m mostly scared of is if the Skill will consume their MP each time they use it…
Paradoxe : If that’s so, Van’ll probably help them get the Skill that will reduce the cost of MP or regenerate it.

I think a big part of the mana efficiency will probably depend on the materials of the Limb their spirit form will be possessing. I think if the arms/legs were just pieces of iron the efficiency would be pretty bad, but if Van uses his newly made Metals which have a close relation with death I think that could help them ease the burden of possessing their new limbs.
I will also just say I am seriously hoping that Van starts experimenting with the prosthetic and makes stuff like Rocket Punch arms… They’re already learning Spirit Form might as well help them get Long Distance Control, lol.

Thanks for the chapter Yoshi, precise translations as usual. Also I was sort of right, the prosthetic limbs are sort of mechanical, they are actually armor arms and legs being controlled through spirit forms. Can’t wait to see what happens next, looking forward to the next chapter. Also good to see Vandalieu use the perfect record skill
Libio
So, next job is decided… In middle of this chapter I was thinking that he take Creator (or something like this) in order to create best alchemy limbs and/or his alchemy skill will transcended, bud dream guide is great choice, I was hoping that he take it soon from moment when it appeared (well, there was more skills like that). This will be big help in their recruiting and training. + dream relate powers sounds good in combination with his others powers and maybe he can get to Heinz this way (He is in realm of slumbering or something). It would be epic meeting. (He would think about Van in special state he is in, he will come to contact with Van’s path and… what could happen is just great. 3 most probably options: he will run away(cannot accept his way), he will become crazy (cannot accept his path, but Van is too strong and he can’t run), he will go with Van (Van is too much stronger than him, he has doubts and part of their conflict is from lack of understanding and knowledge so in dream like state he will follow his emotions and go to Van, there is also big chance that they will not recognize each other and don’t understand with who they are connected, which would be hilarious…)
Thanks for chapter
VEreality
In my opinion, it might work if we take into consideration the fact that Van is pretty much the abyss. You know, a “you stare into the abyss and the abyss shall stare back” kind of situation and his unique skill. IF the fact that Heinz is deeply thinking about Van in a dream realm is considered him dreaming about him AND IF Van gains a stronger connection with dreams in general then they might meet. However, I think that none of the option from above will happen. Heinz would most likely be woken up forcefully by the goddess that is healing him. The goddess, however, might get killed or corrupted by Van.
Libio
Option RUN I take like run with help too, but you are right, he can get”help” in many ways, no matter what is his choice. I did take it from Heinz point of view.
VEreality
He doesn’t have a choice since Mill is listening to Alda. She would YEET him out of her realm as soon as she becomes aware that Van is there. So Heinz wouldn’t even have to run……Even when it’s not his fault, this dude’s BS armor somehow makes me hate him even more. There is much luck someone can have bruh. He always has a god taking care of him. Always.
ObserverBias
Intent doesn’t seem to factor into it (as he has unintentionally guided multiple elements of his kingdom already), and Heinz would ‘maybe’ be more susceptible to Van’s guidance after being off in Mill’s realm getting the stonking lore drops on the sum of Van’s soul’s “original” parts.
Besides which, Mill seems to be associated with a yet-unseen conspiracy separate from Alda’s “side.” Wouldn’t be surprised if it was also either Zuruwarn or Ricklent (given Rodcorte’s wise trio noticed one or the other spying on them and also kept mum on it).
Lord Rin
You’re confusing Mill with Pargtarta who is secretly not on Alda’s side. Mill is firmly on Alda’s side.
As for what would happen with Heinz he would never be guided. He has a basic inability to even admit he might be wrong or that he has made a mistake. There would be no chance to open up a dialogue that could lead to him being guided and Heinz would probably spout bullshit about how he must defeat Van for the safety of the world and blah blah blah. Then Mill might try to step in only to get devoured by Van.
Libio
Heinz can admit that he was wrong (that is pretty sure with him). He just doesn’t think he is wrong (in some parts). Partly because his information (or lack of them), be his education and understanding of world and because he is right in some parts (Van could do better and not cause problems to innocent civilians and potentially start war), but I am saying ”just part”
Because there is no room for dialogue, guidance in dreams is opinion In this state, they don’t act logically but empathic.
Jonathan Hurd
The problem with blaming Van for hurting innocent Civilians is that he hasn’t. He has gone to extreme lengths to look after all the citizens he could of potentially harmed. He did charity with the clay statues in the Hartner Duchy and took in the villagers friendly to the resistance members who would of been purged by Duke Sauron.
The problem with Heinz isn’t so much that he is wrong or unwilling to admit wrong doing. Its that he doesn’t listen and won’t correct course. He has named himself Martyr and Savior. The only thing he admits fault to is helping kill Vans Mom and then he decided that one act created the Demon King Van. Even after Van told him hes wrong.
He takes no responsibility for ignoring the legitimate citizens in the Scyalla and Titan’s of Sauron and Hartner Duchy. He has no understanding of what truly happened with the citizens he is yelling about. The fact is if Heinz had done anything at all to help those groups in the public Van wouldn’t have had to act from the shadows.
Van has no social standing in society. No one would take him or his mom seriously if they tried to protest or make the governments sins public. The same cannot be said for Heinz. He is famous as a S rank Adventurer and promoting Alda’s Peaceful Faction. If he really wants to change Alda’s doctorine against Vida’s races that have been accepted there were two perfectly good opportunities staring him the face.
Libio
That explosion was created because Heinz take pity of Van, but that was more because his CONFLICT of feelings about Heinz. Van isn’t closing his eyes from good parts of Heinz and its make his options complicated, but he understood, than their beliefs are in conflict and they cannot be in peace, which did help already winning REVENGE to win whole war of feelings. But some compatibility is there. Van in dream state will probably not recognize Heinz, if he will guide big group of people again.
First zombie army was before guidance (that time it was just strength followers or something) second I am not sure what it was, but getting somebody to follow and how much he will be stronger are two different skills and second deep on closeness with Van. In dream he did guide even people, who wouldn’t follow him normally.
Lord Rin
Now that I think about it can a guider be guided? Heinz has some guider skill called something that just screams that he’d never follow or be guided by Van. I think it was called Holy Guider or some other pretentious bullshit.
Jonathan Hurd
The biggest issue I’d say for Heinz being guided is remembering the example of what happened with the mages who tried to spy on the Scylla territory after Van put up his monoliths. The only thing those monoliths did was try to guide anyone who saw them onto the Dark Demon Path. The result was the mages tried to commit suicide.
Heinz completely and absolutely rejects Van and his values. There is no way he could be guided by Van his mind and body would reject it.
A big part about the Dreams also is they need to be connected and want Vans guidance to be connected to him. For Van that usually means those who are depressed, suicidal, or close to death.
While Van and Heinz meeting in a dream world would be fun and I can imagine that happening if Van becomes a Dream Guider. He will be knocking against Mills territory even harder than he already has, hehehehe. I don’t feel that meeting will be for guiding Heinz at least not in his current state.
Entropy
I suspect that some potential followers react differently when guided. Vand even thought this was the case with the evil vampires that tried to assassinate him. They were charmed by his undead charm, but attacked him for unknown reasons. Look at his current monkey vampire, she was suicidal and wanted Vand to kill her as she killed him after being charmed for the first time. I think even if Heinz was charmed onto Vand’s path, he would seek to kill Vand in order for Vand to kill him because Heinz believes he should be punished. Right now, he is trying to correct the creation of the demon lord by killing Vand.
JeKeBe
So. I like the little blurbs the author put in after the critter stats but he missed one that I’m scratching my head over. What the heck is Urumi’s Murder Healing? I guess it could be a case of killing people to make them undead and end up a superior lifeform under Van? Heh, the mind boggles.
Makaayplays
It’s a skill for healing. Meaning if they are injured they can kill someone which would in turn boost their regeneration. The twins Saria and Rita have it as well I believe.
JeKeBe
Ah, life on kill, got it, guess I missed it in the earlier descriptions for the battle armor girls. Thanks!
Jonathan Hurd
Its been in the story for a while as others have said mainly held by Saria and Rita. I believe the author wrote out the abilities effects in a chapter a long time ago, but I think Tank has it right. Basically life steal.

New chapter!
I wanted to make a pokemon joke where it’s unfair that the fire type (Fang) is up against the steel type (Suruga), but I can’t think of a good punchline for that…
Not much to speculate about. I do find it interesting that Juliana was already a Vida believer, as she specifies:
“As long as we do not abandon hope, the goddess will answer our prayers… And the goddess… Vida has answered us.”
And Natania doesn’t refute this, showing its not just Van’s charm skill that’s making her think she’s always been a Vida believer.
Granted, it’s not huge in the grand scheme of things.
Additionally, I also find it interesting that despite last chapter establishing the Guild had an issue with Van’s solo hunting, the Guild Master – who arguably should know every problem the guild is facing – doesn’t seem to know anything about Van, even though he’s the only Dhampir in the city.
Just goes to show that maybe the idea of Van’s solo hunting endangering ordinary people isn’t as realistic as the people who said it would want to believe.
ObserverBias
Is it just me or is Morksi really the first/only city noted to have anyone with a level of the Intuition skill? While it didn’t say he used it or had it, him doing the math on Julia’s identity and sudden “recovery” while also understanding enough to not say anything about it gives a certain vibe.
Kazza
The only issue with that is why Vida specifically? From what she says, it seems like she was holding out hope for Vida, not say, Ricklent, Zantark or Zuruwarn.
Because if it was just Van’s charm skill unintentionally messing with her memory, I would assume Natania would have said something. Especially since she seemed concerned with how fanatical Juliana was starting to act towards Van.
I don’t know. I honestly think I’m making a bigger deal out of it then it should be, but I just found it interesting and worth commenting on.
As for the Guild Master thing, I’m referring to the idea that the Guild had apparently tried to intimidate Simon in order to get Van to go through the leper channels. So, the fact that these Guild Master didn’t mention or even think about this shows me that maybe the ones trying to strong-arm him weren’t actually official Guild employees, but maybe more likely adventurers who were upset at him taking away potential profit.
Tejing
If she was a Vida believer, that might be part of the reason for her poor relationship with the duke. It’s an interesting thought.

Thanks for the updates!!

JULIA: I go to the goddess!
VAN: …I’m right here. I’m a boy… and not a god.
JULIA: I go to the goddess!
VAN: …(did I just get stuck in a video game trope?!)
Metazoxan
He needs to progress the quest line for her dialogue to update!
Lord Rin
Unfortunately the quest chain is broken because he missed the cutscene that would introduce him to Randolf so now Juliana’s dialogue is bugged and won’t update.

Thanks for a wonderful chapter like always

Taloshiem will become a place for powerful races with a strength of rank 10 and above…
Masy
it has
Superboy8338
I think you mean rank 12 and above.
Lord Rin
Heck their non-combatants are already stronger than the average adventurer or city guard.
Absolute Zer0
Talosheim Vs Bahn Gaia… Is there need to discuss? Talosheim is ridiculus city where your average shop owner auntie is stronger than knights
Ltshrek
Tru,just imagine other countries raging wars against them and not knowing that a common citizen is as strong as A rank adventurers lmao
Jonathan Hurd
To be fair I think the average citizen is C rank a bit lower than A rank as default. Part of that though is if you want to live in heavy devils nests around Taloshiem you have to be that strong or else you’d die outside.
Paps
Thanks ofr the chapter, really Van must be wishing for those muscles to develope already so people stop missunderstanding his gender.
VEreality
Juliana thinks that Van is a goddess.
Van: I am not
Juliana: I have listened to your words oh great one, but you totally are
Van: You refuse to learn
Love the chapter. It’s never about the quantity of your followers. It’s about their quality. But if you have both…well…you’re Van.
Also, Luciliano 2.0 aka Simon has some pretty darn big expectations from Van. I really like their interactions with Van. It’s fresh. Is not something new, however. We loved seeing it the first time with other characters and now is happening again. And is so well done that I love it now as well. Great work!
Thank you Yoshi-sama!

Well it looks like it’s going to be less prosthetic and more spirit form limbs. I guess that’s what Van meant when he mentioned people looking at them strangely: pale, white not-skin would be an odd sight. Natania and Simon will probably wear armor/clothing in public so as to draw less attention.
Juliana has gone full yandere (kinda reminds me of Pauvina’s spirit before her reincarnation). Since Juliana isn’t joining them in “training” I’m going to call it now: she’s getting a pseudo-reincarnation. Since Pauvina became a half-Noble Orc I suppose that will make Juliana a half-Minotaur? Though it’s stated that she’s expected to give birth to multiple minotaurs…Further pseudo-reincarnations? Maybe the knights/victims will be Juliana’s “siblings”?
More good news for Van: Ghoul cuisine seems to be getting popular. Last chapter there was talk about the Adventurers dissatisfaction with Van not putting out official guild requests. Maybe the high demand for monster meat will alleviate that frustration and improve the guild’s views towards Van/Vida?
Mr.Darkness
“pale, white not-skin would be an odd sight.” I think it’s different, they will posses the artificial limbs, but those limbs are just wood carved to look similar to real limbs, not like prosthetic ones.
Tejing
Materialization wouldn’t be very practical though. The mana cost would be too high to maintain it continuously, so even if they learn it they’ll probably stick with the physical prosthesis except for unusual situations.
Tejing
Maybe for arms, but legs, by their nature, need to do a lot of interacting with the ground. It would be pretty handy though for Natania to have a way to put on and take off the prostheses herself, so I’d bet she’ll learn it anyway.
Jonathan Hurd
Honestly, I still have my money on they eventually mutate to become a new race that either combined with the metal prosthetic to some degree, or they become a species that is basically half ghost/half human. Allowing them to use Spirit Form more naturally.
What would be interesting is if they do mutate as I’m guessing is if they could become able to do like Van and turn their flesh into spirit to help dodge attacks and modify their own attacks.
X07Zero
Thank for the chapter ^^

Kinda sounds weird because I just picture a certain old geezer accustomed to martial arts coming out of a pokeball and striking a pose while a certain epic music plays in the background.
blackkat
Just imagine, after getting the spirit form skill, if they rank it up high enough, they’ll be able to make the form real like Saria and Rita and actually be able to materialize it and then touch and feel again with their new limbs.
gomezseba37
special clothes or a gamic item could solve that easily
Lord Rin
Materialization constantly uses mana to keep it up so I don’t think they would be able to permanently materialize their missing limbs. Spirit Form just pushes their spirit outside their bodies and manipulate and shape it to your will which takes less -if any- mana to be able to do unlike Materialization where you give physical substance to the spirit. It’s just easier to use Spirit Form to possess their metal prosthetics. They could probably learn Materialization later in conjunction with the Long Distance Control skill so that they could detach their prosthetics for remote combat and Rocket Punches while using Materialization to temporarily make up for their missing prosthetics.
Otakukamikazes
Thanks for the chapter.
